I love that Miura didn't go the obvious route of making Farnese a petty, jealous antagonist against Casca as a result of her feelings for Guts. The fact that Farnese still cares very deeply for Casca, so much that she even trekked through her unconscious hellscape of trauma in order to restore Casca's mind, is a great way to show that unrequited love is more complicated than just "I want that person, so now I hate this other person."
At her very introduction Farnese is such a poorly written character... Not even inside berserk i mean universally. She is a shallow and extremely on the nose way for the author to vent his 12 year old-like critique on religion... Fortunately she gets better tho.
@@schmebulockjizz At the beginning I hated Farnese with a burning passion because she was so annoying, shallow and just disgusting as a person. Honestly, I just wanted her to die in the Conviction Arc. I still can't believe she developed into one of my favorite characters of the series. It's insane how Miura develops his characters
@@NoxAtlas no this is not a case of actually hating the character, because that would mean its well done. I hate the writer, i hate the writer and not the character.
Farnese is my favorite character besides Guts. She's just so relatable in terms of character development and pushing herself out of her comfort zone. I really love how she changed so much into a better person.
to me what made farnese work as a character was when she first saw her in her role as a holy chain knight we see her slowly starting to question her actions and realizes her mistakes which is how you handle redeeming someone and when she joint guts crew she felt out of place and a bit out of a outcast not knowing the world out of her comfort zone as it a relatable moment when you realize once your not in your comfort zone you have to use new skills for your elements
As the series went on, Puck definitely had the worst character change, although it's understandable why. He used to be the voice of reason for Guts abut now his main purpose is comic relief which isn't necessarily a bad thing because Farnese and Schierke play that role now not just for Guts but for the crew and they're far more interesting and well developed.
I don't really care about honestly. Like if Miura had plans to delevop literally any of the characters who are actually important to the story, it wouldn't have been Puck.
Farese when we first meet her: BURN THE SUBSCRIBE BUTTON! Farese now: Learn about the subscribe button. Me: it’s like she is a completely different character!
She was a favorite of mine since her introduction. She even grew on me to the point where I was like "hmm you know her and Guts would be a good- No! Nooo! Casca bro! Cascaaa!"
Seeing her go from being devoted as a follower of an evil church to being devoted as Casca's caretaker was wonderful and well worth the wait to see her get to that point. Its really fitting that Guts's new comrades consist of people that are just as broken as he is.
Yeah, all of guts new friends are an outcasts. Puck is runaway elve that do troubles to people in elfhelm, Farnese and Serpico are "different" and doesn't fit in within the aristocrat class, Isidro is an abandoned child and a thief and schierke learn magic by herself and her mentor who got drive away from elfhelm.
Miura proves just how observant of human nature he really was. There are so many facial expressions with Farnese that show every bit of internal struggle and the desire to grow as an individual (even in just the way her eyes are drawn!). Who also has a loving heart. When it comes to zealots, there is a small percentage who actually are good people inside. But they are not released until their world is at first completely shattered. Most would crumble, but Farnese learns to carry on and having Guts lead much by example in this regard.

Low key, you knida blew my mind comparing Guts, Griffith and Casca To Farnese, Casca and Guts. The similarities in the unrequited affection is SO Clear. Been following Berserk for years and never thought about that
I’d say you can see drastic changes in Puck that can make him unrecognizable if modern was to sit down next to original. One is a fairy, one is just a chestnut.
I personally don't feel like Farnese is overshadowed. Being a great evolving character her role in gluing the party is important and also it was Farnese that intervened when Casca hated Guts to the point everything was shattering. I harvest more emotions reading her stories than a lot of more characters.
Honestly, she was never overshadowed in my books, being the character with the most character development in the reletivaly short tiem we know her (compared to guts for instance)
Farnese's beautifully armored zealot version was the greatest time I have had in Berserk. In fact, it is the most unexpected and morbid enjoyment I probably ever got out of a character, but I simply could not help but be thoroughly entertained by her questionable personality, twisted tendencies, and amusingly dramatic inner conflict, and perhaps that makes me a bit of a sadist myself, but I have no regrets. Therefore, I was initially quite disappointed by her character development, especially since the shy, self-conscious, helpless, unconditionally kind-hearted, and overly feminine kind of woman is usually not at all the kind of character I enjoy or have any interest in. I also rather dislike her new hairstyle. In spite of that, however, she has continued to be my favorite Berserk character, and I have come to develop a different kind of appreciation for her character. To me, her character arc is a genuine testament to the good in humanity, in particular the kind that is not always easy to see and may need some assistance to unleash its full potential. Farnese is someone who killed animals and tormented people in her childhood and later burned human beings alive and masturbated to it. Almost anyone would discard this kind of person as irredeemable and beyond hope - but not Miura; he was able to show that behind those twisted and horrible deeds was but a sad, lonely, scared, and confused child acting out of desperation to gain some form of approval and a place to belong, a person who has done bad things but is not inherently a bad person, a human who wants to be good and deserves a chance to be good. I think it is a beautiful message that a person's past does not define them, and that even in the darkest of places, humanity can always prevail. I can also relate to her on a personal level as I was far from a perfect child and now as an adult strive to be a better person and am in many ways quite inexperienced due to my own set of circumstances.
Farnese is Waifu. The way she changes, and becomes so compassionate and diligent when compared to how she started is more beautiful than most characters you see in most stories.
Great video as most of the time 😁 Edit: upon actually thinking about it, your videos are always a delight, it's just some topics that I just dont personally care for so I dont watch them, but I'm pretty sure they are as well made as the ones that I watch. Have a good day ✌
This fills me with great regret. Farnese is truly the best girl. She looks beautiful here. She's like what Caska is too Griffith. But she's that way to Gutts. Caska only brings pain to Gutts. After rereading this story hundreds of times I've come to realize.
I actually finished berserk a month ago, the first half of the manga was one of the best things I read, the second half still good but I didn't like some of the choices. But What a Journey ♥️
I still want a spin-off with Farnese and Guts as Apostle hunters after the godhand have been defeated and the remaining Apostles are on the run,so we have a sorceress and a swordsman hunting monsters
Damn, i'm yet to watch a video, but im surprised that so many ppl in comment like her, including me. She is one of my favourite Berserk characters, and her journey is the one i enjoyed the most so far.
Honestly disagree when you said she was gonna have a hard time to stand out compared to the rest of the cast. She is by far my favorite to watch develop. Griffith used to be my fav character, but then Serpico and Farness joined Guts and I saw a whole lot more from them I never would have imagined they'd have to showcase🤩
Not really. She's following a crush. She's learning how to be a person from everybody else. She has no real chemistry with Guts. Guts doesn't give two shits about her besides having her babysit his mental girlfriend. Guts and Griffin heavily influenced the other. They made the biggest life decisions based off the other person.
Berserk has the best female characters of any manga I've read. Casca and Farnese particularly are intricately developing characters whose femininity are not forgotten, but an aspect of their personas and sometimes the driving lens behind the decisions and dispositions they come to. While I think Miura sometimes does suffer from simplifying his characters in the manga as it progresses, in both these characters he remains unparalleled. Thanks for the video!
