Judeau is my most favorite character in Berserk. She's not just bound by her gender. She's not a sword to fight for Griffith, or a hot water bottle to warm Guts and keep him alive. She's not a reason to seek revenge. She's not a sex object. LexieDi came here to say this, but you said it better than I ever could have. Judeau must have known that Casca could never feel the same way. Just asked the voice actor of Judeau about his voice acting career, because there's literally nothing online, and now he's in real estate, but enjoyed his run. This was his first character to voice, and he also loved the show like we do, as well as this character.
Casca is the type who wouldn't cry in front of the other band members; expect Guts, Griffith, and Judeau. For Judaeu specifically, I think it proves how much trust she has of him. When he said his last words to Casca, I don't think it was heartbreaking just because he couldn't confess, but the trust and 'maybe some sort of love' that Casca had for him hit her harder than we think. Both had a comfortable trusting relationship with each other. JudaeuXCasca will touch many hearts.
I quote a post I saw - Judeau died like a man, whilst Griffith lived like a bitch. Thank you for giving this beautiful character the attention and analysis he deserves.
Judeau is so underappreciated. I'm so glad someone else could see his worth! I feel like I can relate to this character more than any other character in this series.
Judeau seems like the type of friend that you'd just want to remind that his life means SOMETHING and he has nothing to be insecure about. I remember how emotional I was seeing his death, man...
Your interpretation of him as a selfless figure is spot on. It's the sort of dark and depressing selflessness that brands you a sacrifice to others (with or without an Eclipse).
Also note the irony of his death. 8:43. He's pinning her down and "thrusting" with the blows of apostles. Miura made this intentionally "sexual" to show his unrequited feelings and the intimacy of the moment. Tragically ironic.
To me, he was one of the strongest characters in Berserk not because of physicality but because of how selfless he was. He knew what his heart wanted, but chose to live with it and endure mental and physical pain till the very end because he didn’t want to tread over anything he didn’t feel justified in complicating. To be that selfless and practice that much restraint is one of the hardest things you can do in life, but that’s true strength.
Judeau was my favourite character. He's just such a cool guy, so likable. He's the one I most identified with personally. He's the one I was most sad about to see die... Especially the way he died.
Judeau was my favourite characters in the Golden Age Arc and still is among my favourite characters of the series. His character had a warmer charm to it than Griffith's coldness, and his death was one of the most memorable thus far in the story. I kind of hope that later in the story, Guts briefly has a way to temporarily reunite or at least see his old friends before the climax of the manga.
Judeau is one of my favorite Berserk characters, period. He was probably one of the only members of the Hawk who didn't worship the ground Griffith walked on, but he was also one of the most kind and caring people ever. Like, not only was he always comforting everyone else when they needed it, but he put his own wants and wishes aside to try and help others. He was literally in love with Casca, and STILL told Guts to leave with her because he knew Griffith was a narcissistic piece of crap. That's crazy. Anyways I love him and he makes me cry so hard.
“You should take her with you this time... even if you had to drag her with you...” And the sad thing is that not only did that happen... but Guts didn’t do it in time to save himself and Casca... and only started doing it when it was far to late. It’s sad, because most of us have what we wanted along right beside us, but are too stupid or selfish to see that.
When he died, I honestly just couldn’t deal, the smartest, most heartfelt, tragic and notable of the hawks. I actually felt as though I lost a friend (I mean I had none when I was watching/reading berserk) that’s how you write a relatable character without throwing a bunch of overly obvious sentiments at your audience making the character an empty marketing tool.
Out of everyone in the world Judeau is actually the one person that will willingly be your friend everytime I think of how kind people are too me half the time I think of them as Judeau and accept their friendship.
Judeau really was one of the most loveable characters of the golden age. Hes very endearing to the audience/readers as well as the other characters his bond with Casca and Guts makes his death hits soooo hard
Well, that was depressing.... Judeau really was a fantastic and subtle side character, one of those characters who feels complex and fascinating despite the narrative never actively developing him in the same way did it did the main trio during the Golden Age. I think that in itself is an amazing achievement, to be able to draw so much from this personality without the show ever overtly forcing it, there's some brilliant nuance to that sort of characterization that, in its own subdued way, is just as incredible as the iconic characterization of Guts and Griffith. Rest in Peace, Judeau, you were a special character,
Just recently finished watching the 1997 Berserk anime and I'm so happy you made this video. Judeau is definitely now one of my favorite characters in anime. Fiction doesn't often make me cry but I bawled during his death scene. "There were so many things I that wanted to tell you, but I guess it wasn't in the cards. Just a few special words..." His English VA, Christopher Kromer, did an excellent job and delivered his last lines with heartbreaking emotion. Thank you again for creating this video and shining light on this masterpiece of a character.
I’m in the military and fell in love with someone who will never truly see me. I live out many of my days regretting that I joined I help others but can never help myself. I’m there for others when they’re in pain but no one will ever see the pain I’m going through. Even if I asked for help no one would willingly give any care. I relate a lot to Judeau I’m not the best at anything which leads me to feel like I’m not good enough for anyone or anything. I’m trying to work on my confidence issues and I’m trying to be more selfish but I always seem to end up giving my happiness my hopes and my dreams to others. Maybe someday when my contract is over I’ll find a purpose in life.
Man, you're the absolute king when it comes to these types of videos. So amazing. Hunter X Hunter, Berserk, Monster, Final Fantasy, whatever it is, it's always so good. Keep doing what you're doing my man. You're gonna blow up soon.
I don't like Serpico at all, I find him quite annoying actually. I think Scheircke has way more of a character ( even though she is mostly the loli of the group). The author of the video says that the abscence of the character is noticeable, I feel Serpicos's abscence is nowhere near Judeau's, besides for his link with Farnese, he could be removed quite easily and I would barely be able to tell that he is gone If It wasn't for Farnese clinging to him.
What I loved about Judeau is that I can empathize with him soo much. I feel like I'm a lot like him and that makes his character very real for me. Even the way he doesn't act on his feelings for Casce. He's one of the realest characters in fiction.
'Are these my last words?' 😭 If he only had more self esteem and courage! He died without achieving his dreams but he had so much potential, what a waste of life! He's a lesson for many of us. As you said in the video: life is too short. He could have open that business he was talking about, marry the woman he wanted, have kids and live a happy life but he never had the spirit of initiative and self love within himself in order to do so.
Love Judeau, he was Guts' only real friend in the Golden Age and saw how he cared for Casca. I think he knew Guts needed someone intimate more than his lower opinion of himself for being with Casca that effected his decision. Had Guts not been there, I think Judeau would've tried to be with her; but seeing Guts, his strength and his social weakness and how Judeau cared for them both thought they would make a better match. It's why he get somewhat angry and serious when trying to push Guts to make a move, then softening his expression saying he thought there was hope for the two of them together. In the end he let's his goals go by the wayside for what he thinks is best for those around him, a totally selfless character.
Judeau was the best member of the band of the hawk. Witty, wise, badass, and he even managed to save casca during the eclipse TWICE. RIP for him, and big homie pippin.
You absolutely earned it. I appreciate the pace at which you upload new content too. Just when I don't expect it I see something new by you on the sidebar. I wonder what you think about the quantity-quality ratio, ie the more you upload the shorter and less edited each video needs to be (unless you do stuff like gameplay footage which requires minimal editing and can be uploaded by hour segments). I'm no content maker but I'm pretty sure that's something every UA-cam creator has to think about.
Just Someone Well, I don't normally upload this regularly - I've just started a nice little break that'll last a couple of weeks, so I'm trying to take advantage of it. In terms of quality-quantity: to be honest, I don't spare it a thought. I just try to put as much quality as possible into my videos and upload them whenever I'm happy with them. Obviously an analysis on a secondary character like Judeau will take less time than some of my other ones, but it's all just a very natural process and upload frequency is all dependent on the amount of spare time I have. The next upload will be relatively small as well, but the one after probably longer.
One of my favourite characters. Yes,Judeau died with regret, lessons for us all to learn from.. Live life and never hold back in this what is called life & love.
Judeau is the best character because he shows a little known human trait of humility. Judeau would be the first to tell you that even though the band of the Hawks have gone undefeated that it can't go on forever. Judeau is one of the few people who actually makes a conscience decision to be where he is and isn't disillusioned by Griffith's charisma. Here is a guy who is probably the most skilled in a small pond but then early in life you meet a guy like Griffith who basically surpasses you in all the ways you care about. He's faster, more graceful, better looking, a better speaker, more cunning, etc. What are you to do? He chose to follow and settle with being a witness to history. I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing but of course it lead to his horrible death. Keep in mind there is no upward mobility of social status in the world like it exists today. Judeau could have become an incredibly skilled craftsman or IMO a skilled hitman but then that is all he would ever be whereas with Griffith the sky was the limit so he chose that path. Judeau may have loved Casca and admired her as a fellow comrade but she was a woman out of his reach. Not because he wasn't good enough for her but because he knows there is no chance of a relationship with her with Griffith and then later Guts in the picture. Her heart was too fixated on them to have room for another and he knew that so he didn't bother. Had there been another capable woman in the Band of the Hawk similar to Casca who DIDN'T have this issue you better believe he would be hitting that up.
Really great perspective on the character. Luka and Judeau are both my favorite characters from the entirety of Berserk thus far, and I can really agree with your interpretation of why they are such effective support characters.
i love judeau , he did leave a lasting impression on the berserk fanbase, he is still well loved to this day. and makes you hate griffith more for what he did. Judeau is the first victim i think of when i think of all those griffith destroyed for his dream.
Thank you for this upload. Judeau is my favorite character behind Schierke. What is appealing is his pragmatism and absolute lack of self-deception; although he has regrets, he knows what he is and what his skills can accomplish. This extends tragically to Caska as you said, he realizes the fact that she will never choose him. An amazing part of his (partly Caska's) and Griffith's character where this split affection does in no way diminish his leal nature towards the White Hawk.
Thanks for watching! I have nothing much more to add about why Judeau is a special character to me, you've pretty much nailed it. And beyond all that depth is a simply really likeable guy that sacrifices himself for his friends time and time again. RIP. (As a side note, I quite like Schierke as well)
Bro, there's two things that happen every fucking time I watch the eclipse. I tear up and get an insanely morose feeling when Judeau dies, and I fucking shiver and get the chills for Guts' last scream. Fucking incredible piece of art.
I first watched berserk back when I was 7 roaming the cartoon section of blockbuster. I have never been or since then been affected from a fictional characters death as I was when Judeau died. I’m 23 now and I still tear up when I read or watch the golden age arc. Berserk is amazing.
Gave you my like even before watching the video, just because of faron woods music at the beginning :) Besides, awesome and deep character analysis. I have never thought about Judeau this way.
Judeau was always my favorite character, too, although he always seemed so sad. In particular, when he talked about his dreams compared to Griffith's. I suppose that's one of the reasons that he didn't make it out, while Guts had his own dream to pursue.
This is a truly beautiful and hauntingly poetic dissection of this character and the important need for him to be a part of this tragic story. Thank you for doing such justice to the genius that is Berserk
judeau is my 2nd fav character in berserk and i love those final words he said to casca! saying to himself i got to confess my love but then says " u cry alot when ur alone dont u " while falling to his death in the anime @.@
So sad. Makes justice to his tragic story. I think the two most sad deaths are his and Rochine's. Even though she was an apostle, I really felt sad at her final moments. And now it feels even more tragic when we compare Dannan with her.
It's so nice to hear someone explaining the things that we, or at least I, have felt all the way, but did not have the analytic ability or passion to really dig into thos charecters. Thanks a lot Alec!!!
Judeau was definitely my favorite of the "lesser" main characters. I can't say I love Guts, Griffith, or Caska more. I loved them all, and they are all too complex to choose from. I think that Guts and Caska romance was one of the best ever written. The tragedy even surpassing that of Shakespearean tragedy. I hate what Griffith did but I can't hate him for how he shaped the story and how well written and complex he is. Judeau is that guy I would just love to kick it with and chill though. He had that real bro mentality that I love in real people. Every time an Episode played and Judeau wasn't in it I felt it immediately and missed him so much .And then I got all sad inside knowing his fate and how his existence would play out. THAT is why this series is so amazing though. This sense of people you grew to love dying in an instant. Well that and so many other things. This drama is more emotionally complex than a woman during her period. And THAT says a lot. :3
hahaha I also rewatched the monster analysis video prior as you do such a good job of explaining the series and its characters, you also helped me further understand the ending of the series.
1. Judeau was a man among man. He was a man of compassion, empathy, and strength. 2. Miss that "Shooting star summit" from Paper Mario. Yaaaaay, nostalgia.
I have returned! I think I've rewatched this analysis twice now. I think I come back after every time I see Judeau's end. Heart breaking, and yet this really helps put it into further context. Love the vid.
Alongside Corkus, I find Judeau to be the most personally relatable character in the series. Above everything else, I think Judeau represents one thing: the difference between talent and skill. Judeau probably grew up having a fair amount of natural proclivities, but nothing so substantial that things came to him easily. As he describes himself as a jack-of-all-trades, I would guess that he tried to become a master at something, but either couldn't narrow down a focus or gave up when he saw people who were better than him with seemingly no effort. Griffith, on the other hand, strikes me as someone who didn't have to work to be as good at anything. It's been a long time since I've read the manga, but I'm almost certain that there is never any mention of him receiving formal training. Thus, I assume that he grew up a mercenary like Guts, and slowly formed his own following over the years. Guts stands in between the two as someone who is both innately gifted and shows a progression of learned ability. It's actually a subject of some speculation within the fan base as to whether Guts is secretly supernatural, but going off of the evidence we have, I think that he is simply someone who is born with good genetics that improve his bone and muscle density and high pain tolerance. When we first meet him, he's hardly what anyone would consider a tactical prodigy, even with his relative wealth of combat experience. As the series goes on and he grows up, he learns a lot from Griffith in terms of battle strategy and becomes a vastly more capable warrior. This all compounds on Judeau, further ostracizing him as someone standing in the shadow of others, whether that be because of his own (perhaps unjustified) resignations or because he simply lacked that certain "something" that some people are born with. Either way, Judeau is one of my favorite characters in the series if only for how much of myself I see in him.
Coming back to this Video today because i really love Berserk and Judeau. I am eternally greatful for Berserk. Rewatching the Video, Miura once said that the Band of the Hawk is like his Friend group i think. I wonder if someone in that Group was like Judeau, someone with big ambitions but gave up.

At least he died like a motherfucking beast instead of sniveling like Corkus. RIP Pippin you deserved so much better.
Rippin' Pippin
That's what the Slug Baron did.
i agree. corkus surrendered to a demon thot while pippen went out like the warrior he is
I quote a post I saw - Judeau died like a man, whilst Griffith lived like a bitch.
Thank you for giving this beautiful character the attention and analysis he deserves.
Judeau is so underappreciated. I'm so glad someone else could see his worth! I feel like I can relate to this character more than any other character in this series.
Judeau character is the embodiment of friendship. He was so sensitive and attentive for people around him. He deserve be celebrate.
You need more subscribers. Definitely spreading the word
Very much appreciated, thank you!
IM stealing this video
To me, he was one of the strongest characters in Berserk not because of physicality but because of how selfless he was. He knew what his heart wanted, but chose to live with it and endure mental and physical pain till the very end because he didn’t want to tread over anything he didn’t feel justified in complicating. To be that selfless and practice that much restraint is one of the hardest things you can do in life, but that’s true strength.
Judeau was my favourite character. He's just such a cool guy, so likable. He's the one I most identified with personally. He's the one I was most sad about to see die... Especially the way he died.
I didn't think much of Judeau but when he died, And his inner monologue really hit me... Well tbh the whole sacrifice was an emotional rollercoaster
too bad all these good secondary characters like this fucking DIED
Blame fate. Or Miura.
Aleczandxr I blame both
there were replaced by equally good characters. Farnese, Serpico and Schierke have nothing to learn from Judeau and Corkus.
cesverc well yea I like them too but how do we know they won't have the same fate as the last squad
Deity Saturn yeah, the show is building up to a new crisis. We can only wonder how many of his friends will Guts be able to save this time.
“You should take her with you this time... even if you had to drag her with you...”
And the sad thing is that not only did that happen... but Guts didn’t do it in time to save himself and Casca... and only started doing it when it was far to late. It’s sad, because most of us have what we wanted along right beside us, but are too stupid or selfish to see that.
Well done, as usual. Berserk is a treasure trove for character analysis.
Thanks! And I agree - half my job is done for me just through the brilliant story.
For what I know, Judeau is/was a fan favorite.
Yep, and for really good reason. I really loved him.
No problem, he definitely deserves it.
Damn dude, you're quickly becoming a favorite of mine. This is some really solid content you're putting out,
Thanks very much pal, I'm glad that it's to your taste!
Absolutely brilliant music choice yet again.
I really love when people acknowledge the music choice, because I definitely put lots of thought into it. Thank you!
The Faron woods theme fits Berserk so well it's uncanny, excellent choice my guy.
Aleczandxr 9:34 Nearly cried what is the name of the music please.
Man, you're the absolute king when it comes to these types of videos. So amazing. Hunter X Hunter, Berserk, Monster, Final Fantasy, whatever it is, it's always so good. Keep doing what you're doing my man. You're gonna blow up soon.
Thank you so, so much. The support I receive sometimes is absolutely unreal.
Aleczandxr you deserve it, believe me
I agree. This is gonna sound kinda cheesy but you really put good thought and passion with your analysis. Keep grinding bruh. You will get big.
And Judeau to me was THE ultimate bro.
Did you watch Gantz yet?
At least we got Serpico aka Judeau 2.0
serpico fills the empty hole in my heart I call Jedeau
He not like him.
Basically he has the heart of Judeau but the brains of Griffith
I feel like rickert is going to grow in to Judeau
Judeau deserved better and reading the latest chapter made me realise how much I miss him.
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA MUSIC. You're the man.
Twilight Princess tho.
Meleron Nef you’re the man Steve
What I loved about Judeau is that I can empathize with him soo much. I feel like I'm a lot like him and that makes his character very real for me. Even the way he doesn't act on his feelings for Casce. He's one of the realest characters in fiction.
'Are these my last words?' 😭 If he only had more self esteem and courage! He died without achieving his dreams but he had so much potential, what a waste of life! He's a lesson for many of us. As you said in the video: life is too short. He could have open that business he was talking about, marry the woman he wanted, have kids and live a happy life but he never had the spirit of initiative and self love within himself in order to do so.
ngl i cried watching this. i just wanna give my boy a hug
What makes this more sad is that in chapter 359 when casca was talking about the band of the hawk and the first person that came to mind was Judeau
Ishidoro's dagger remind her of Judeau's knives
Your dissection skills never disappoint. Thank you for this video.
Thanks for the constant support :)
Looking forward to them, then. Thanks for the answer, too.
One of my favourite characters. Yes,Judeau died with regret, lessons for us all to learn from..
Live life and never hold back in this what is called life & love.
Judeau was one the of characters that really clicked for me. Glad to see some appreciation around
Judeau, the jack of all trades and master of none. I just love that quote.
I cried when Judeau died, he really deserved so much more.
Rest in Peace, Kentaro Miura.
Quiet confidence is something not talked about enough or admired
Really great perspective on the character. Luka and Judeau are both my favorite characters from the entirety of Berserk thus far, and I can really agree with your interpretation of why they are such effective support characters.
Thank you. And you're totally correct - both of the two you mentioned are vastly important for the story but hugely underrated.
I'm starting to realize that you like Berserk a bit.
It's alright.
I ain't gonna lie I cried my eyes out after watching this video 😭😭😭😭😭
i love judeau , he did leave a lasting impression on the berserk fanbase, he is still well loved to this day. and makes you hate griffith more for what he did. Judeau is the first victim i think of when i think of all those griffith destroyed for his dream.
I'm glad you also see how complicated and layered all of the characters are in this story. Such a masterpiece.
For sure, a brilliant story filled with tremendous characters like Judeau.
Sorry for the typos, it is late. This video made the day!
Thanks for watching! I have nothing much more to add about why Judeau is a special character to me, you've pretty much nailed it. And beyond all that depth is a simply really likeable guy that sacrifices himself for his friends time and time again. RIP. (As a side note, I quite like Schierke as well)
This is beautiful
Very nice of you to say so.
This video really moved me and made me miss Judeau even more.
To me, everything you said is facts, great work dude.
Cheers man.
He was a true bro, and the ultimate wing man. RIP judeao 😢
Brilliant music mate. The woods of Twilight Princess, Paper Marios Star Summit. Dude you have stellar taste!
Much appreciated pal, I'm glad that others can get a kick out of the music choice.
Keep these analysis videos coming! These are really entertaining to me, haha!
Will do!
Gave you my like even before watching the video, just because of faron woods music at the beginning :) Besides, awesome and deep character analysis. I have never thought about Judeau this way.
Thanks!
Judeau is awesome, It felt the worst when he died
These old classics... nothing like these nostalgic vibes
Hey, men,I've just realized one thing. Judeau is one of the most badass guys in Berserk. In chaos of Eclipse, he was the only one SMILED
judeau is my 2nd fav character in berserk and i love those final words he said to casca! saying to himself i got to confess my love but then says " u cry alot when ur alone dont u " while falling to his death in the anime @.@
He wouldn't quite be my second favourite but I think he's fantastic. A tragic and wonderful character. :'(
Nice work Aleczandxr :D
Thanks very much :)
Fucking great video man. Its ridiculous how few analysis videos there are for this show that arent just Griffith and Guts.
Thanks a ton dude. I appreciate it.
So sad. Makes justice to his tragic story.
I think the two most sad deaths are his and Rochine's.
Even though she was an apostle, I really felt sad at her final moments. And now it feels even more tragic when we compare Dannan with her.
Judau the Swiss army knife of the band.
underrated comment
Damn. A year went by and still 5 likes. Guess people dont know what SAK is
Great vid again man, also i find background music in all your vids are on point!
Thanks dude, means a lot to see you comment on basically every upload :)
It's so nice to hear someone explaining the things that we, or at least I, have felt all the way, but did not have the analytic ability or passion to really dig into thos charecters. Thanks a lot Alec!!!
No problem, thanks for watching :)
Judeau - Strength - 6 Gut's - Strength - 10
Perception - 10 Perception - 7
Endurance - 9 Endurance - 10
Charisma - 9 Charisma - 3
Intelligence 9 Intelligence - 7
Agility - 9 Agility - 10
Luck - 3 Luck - 3
I was literally rewatching the berserk analysis video when I saw this on my feed. so glad you made another berserk video, keep up the good work :)
Wow, I wasn't aware that people are still rewatching that. Thanks very much, I definitely will.
hahaha I also rewatched the monster analysis video prior as you do such a good job of explaining the series and its characters, you also helped me further understand the ending of the series.
DJ_ OBITO That's awesome to hear, that was basically what my goal was when I started making videos consistently :) Thanks a lot.
no problem and as I previously said, keep up the good work.
DJ_ OBITO Will do, pal.
1. Judeau was a man among man. He was a man of compassion, empathy, and strength.
2. Miss that "Shooting star summit" from Paper Mario. Yaaaaay, nostalgia.
i did not need to cry today but here i am,,
Judeau was always my favorite secondary character and the one I could relate to most.
He was my favourite as well, just all-around so likeable.
I wish Guts talked more about Judeau!! He was Guts's true best friend or one who understood him the most, not Griffith.
Dammit man, you deserve thousand of subscribers.. love your analyses! Keep it up
Thanks! Much appreciated.
If Judeau was the one who lost his arm and survived instead of guts, we would get Edward Elric
I have returned!
I think I've rewatched this analysis twice now. I think I come back after every time I see Judeau's end.
Heart breaking, and yet this really helps put it into further context. Love the vid.
I’m glad you enjoy it!
Griffith tried very hard. He would spend countless hours reading and would make any and all sacrifices to reach his goal.
