This is the official demo song for my Yamaha Motif ES sound set (sound bank). As with all of my sound sets this is a rolling set, that means there will be updates from time to time with new sounds and replaced ones.
This sound set covers - you may have guessed - mainly progressive and uplifting trance, but can also be used for all other kinds of EDM, such as house, dubstep, complextro, drum&bass etc.
This sound set works on Motif ES, XS and XF as well as S90 ES, and XS and the MO-Series. For a full compatibility list check the link above.
For this demo I used a Yamaha S90 ES (since I don't have a Motif ES). All sounds were recorded separately in voice mode and put together in Apple Logic Pro for mixing and dynamics. All kick drums are coming from software, so are drums, except something else is written in the video. There were no external effects besides some EQing and compression. You could say the sound is rather untouched.
The effect sounds are all part of my "JayB's Effect Sounds" bundle, available on the same page where you can download the sound set.
The visualisation in the background is good ol' Milkdrop of Winamp. The captions are added using Final Cut Pro X.

Ya it was very nice to get these, Jay B has made patches for pretty much all the possible timeless Trance sounds you could want. Pretty much any one of these can be pulled directly into any new recording , be it anything rock pop or any other genre which have been borrowing from 2000s trance legendary sounds the past 20 years.

Good demonstration! This proves that these synths from late 90's are everlasting and forever. They were before their time when they came. Software? Not even close... Hardware is the real way for professionals, and it sounds fatter and wider.

Frozen Sound I know I don't need to do this, but... About that 1:45, as written in the description I know that this is Invasion. The sound was originally not intended for that song, it's just "that typical Armada lead synth". And 5:02 Kandi != Candy. ;)

First of all, thank you for this set. I think they are fantastic! The Motif can certainly use more Trance instrument, and you provided some great one.
The sample titled "Egyptian", I can't make it sound the way it does in the beginning of 4:07. I use the cutoff of the Motif, but it just doesn't have that cool gated sound that yours have. Any tips?
MoonScythe1 Velocity is the magic word. The higher the velocity is the longer is the release time. Gotta play around with these values.

Gibt's für 467,- Euronen bei Thomann (statt 599,-). Allerdings sind Softsynths so gut und preiswert, das ich mir lieber die Oddity 2 von GForce und das V Collection Update von Arturia gekauft habe. Hab eh noch ne Ultranova, bei der aber Touchsense nicht mehr geht. Kauf nie die erste Serie. Grrr.
pcuimac Naja, aber ich kauf mir für ein Soundset doch nicht extra nen neuen Synth. Software hat in der Tat viele Vorteile, was die Handhabung im Projekt angeht. Aber mir fehlt da das Haptische. Ich liebe es, mich durch Menüs zu klicken und Regler zu schieben, um einen Sound zu kreieren. Mit der Maus auf kleine Knöpfe zielen missfällt mir da eher.
how to convert this file for motif xs ?
I was wondering if this soundset worked on the MOX/MX -series, since they use the same sound engine as the Motif XS. Has anyone tried it?
It works on the MOX, but you need someone with a Motif XS to convertjit first. Unfortunately directly import only works for the MOXF models AFAIK. I can't tell how it is with the MX ones.

hi what program do i use to load the sounds into a motif7 or how do i put them in the keyboard to convert them?
yoll d Unfortunately these sounds don't work on the Motif Classic.
oh woh a wounder just my luck is it not like a virus and you can load any patch into any of the machines?
Doesn't work with the Viruses neither. They're only backwards compatible, not forward compatible. You can load Motif Classic sounds in a Motif ES but not vice versa.
hi ya oh i see i own a virus A B and C and KC and you can load any sounds in any of them even the ti sounds you can load in its just you dont get the efx of the patch from the ti ... you need to do some motif classic sounds

Not quite my style of sounds, but you've pushed the synth engine quite far on the ES. Great work! I can tell you put a lot of work into these sounds. I still think even for modern productions you can use these elements.
If someone says they sound a bit 'dated' its partly because of the inherent limitations of the Motif AWM engine. There isn't very much modulation. As far as synthesis goes its very basic. FX can certainly help, you just don't get the rawness out of the oscillator section like you would out of an analog or modern VA. That said, if you sample using the Motif you'll capture any sound - you just won't have the control over it.
Of course you can't (or shouldn't) run a complete production using only these sounds. But it's great for some basics like pads or some basses. And quality-wise it does that on a great level.

+Jay Z I don't have an ES, but the XS has an editor software. I believe it is a similar case with the ES.

This software may allow you to open and import these instruments to your ES. I'd give you more info, but again, I have a Motif XS, not an ES.
+Jay Z Easiest way would be to put the S7E file on a FAT32 formatted USB drive and stick it into your Motif and use the File menu to load it (File Type: Voice Editor). No additional software needed.

I actually just bought MainStage for my MacBook pro. I just connect my motif ES8 to my mac and now I have infinite sounds, so deff check out MainStage if you haven't already.

JAYB KORG KRONOS 2 OR MOTIF XF FOR TRANCE MUSIC?
fantomg100 You should check your shift key. It seems broken.
Anyway, both are suitable for trance music, but I wouldn't use them for complete productions as probably their mixing capabilities are rather limited compared to software. And you need good routing options for EDM nowadays.
Good brain and Talent are the best instruments!

Actually it should recognize the file... Hmmm... Well, you can still put it on a usb thumb drive and plug it into the Motif and load it internally.
ahhh ok i will try this cheers i tried loading them in my motif 7 aswell but like you said before there not compatable ive tried making sounds in my motif 7 but its realy difficult to assign things and stuff the thing i dont like about it is in patch mode you cant edit the fx it has to be in performance mode for some reason but i can see why thay changed the os and the n made the xs
where is the usb on the xs rack?
Oh, the xs rack version... I thought I read es before... well you need to import the file into the editor, not open it.
i tried inporting the file into the editor but theres no all files to choose from only motif something or other file so then the editor cant see the file so i cant then load it in cus it cant reconise the file format to inport it if you know what i mean

Yes, it should. You might need the voice editor software though, but I'm not sure.

Sounds dated. Workstations are not the right equipment for this type of music. Professional trance music is produced on computer based DAWs.
So I guess that quite a few of the current trance tracks sound dated. Well, yay for nostalgia.
Also, CloudDjembe: As you can read in the description, these demos WERE produced on a computer based DAW. :P
Workstations has many benefits that is very hard or impossible to achieve with only a computer-based setup. A combination of both is best.
I don’t think the sounds are dated, anyway as long as it sounds good then one should trust that regardless of what it comes from. Think about when no one wanted analog gear, now everyone wants it even though the digital stuff is much more developed than it was then.
I have deep respect for JayB, but I think in a way you're kinda right. JayB in general has a very 90's feel. But that isn't a bad thing, really. Still sounds great. Plus, in a few decades people won't hear it the way you and I hear it.
Wobbo I hear that all the time even though I'm trying to get as close as possible to the current standards. Mainly because I dislike the 90s stuff. I wonder why people keep saying that...
