    My first video for the PLG150-AN board, the small brother (or sister?) of the legendary AN1x. With Multisaw. The sounds I made for this board are not very complex, but very useful. Mostly plucks and basses it is. And a few lead sounds. The sound set also contains a few sounds from my AN1x set.
    My PLG150-AN is hosted by the Yamaha S80, which delivers all effects you're hearing. Not external sound processing was done. The filter (modwheel) was controlled via a Yamaha FC7 foot controller.
    All songs are written as captions in the video. Non-captioned songs are pure improvisation to sound similar to some song.

    I checked out the link you publihed on Dec 1, 2013. I was born on Dec 1st btw. Not sure if that means anything. You have talent as a music and sound designer. You got the right equipment to get the job done. You can create an album with a message or inspiration for the world, our time on this planet it limited if you know what I mean.

    Is the filter sweep on the patches controlled by a pedal, or based on velocity?
    Btw for those who don't know this, the PLG150-AN is the board inside the AN200 groove box.To access the on board patches, That board can be placed in a compatible device such as the MU128, or another similar sound module /keyboard.

    Hi JayB!
    I bought a Yamaha AN1x and downloaded your voices, the old ones, and the new ones. The best sounds I've ever heard of this synth. Virus, Nord, and JP8000 sounds can be heard very well.Thanks to your wonderful voices I decided to buy AN1x. There was a JP8000 plan, but after listening to your great work, I decided on the AN1x and I'm really happy about it. Your music is super. I tried to load the PLG150 AN sounds with the AN1x Editor. We've been able to load but some sounds lack the effect. Can I be able to upload with effect, or do I have to add effects? Good luck and lots of good music in the future!

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  6 років тому

      It's because the PLG board doesn't have internal effects aside from Distortion and EQ. Also, the AN1x doesn't have the Multisaw. There's a reason why I have both a AN1x and a PLG150-AN sound set. Because while being very similar they do have some impacting differences. So if you have the AN1x I recommend using the AN1x set.

    • @yamahamotifxs
      @yamahamotifxs 6 років тому

      Thanks for the reply. I use the AN1x sounds that are super. It is a pity that there is no Multi Saw in AN1x, but there are many supersaw-like sounds in the AN1x sounds, which I think is very similar to the real Multi Saw.

    I sold my PLG-AN only because it's limited editing capabilities from the synth's panel and software editor unavailability for MacOSX. Yamaha kind of killed it. Great sounds and playing by the way!

  • @yamahamotifxs
    @yamahamotifxs 6 років тому

    All your videos are great with. I like the Yamaha AN1x sounds so I plan to buy. I've already downloaded the sounds you've programmed. AN1x is capable of producing SuperSaw sounds?

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  6 років тому

      No exactly. You can create sounds that are similar using a mixture of polyphonic unisono and sawtooth PWM modulation. But it's not as thick as the classic supersaw (or Multi saw like in the AN boards).

      Hi! Nowadays you mainly find the PLGs on eBay and sorts. At least in Germany they appear every once in a while. I recommend the AN board for fat analog sounds, the DX if you're more into the FM stuff and the XG boards for proper GM/XG compatibility.

    • @teddym2808

      @@JayBmusic Wow OK. I will just keep my AN1X and get an AN200 to get 5 voices with the multisaw (seen them for a couple hundred bucks), and what I will do is replace my MOXF6 with a MODX+, which is not that huge of an outlay, and get all the motif sounds I already have, PLUS the montage M sounds plus FM-X. I think that will be really worthwhile to do and keep my AN1X as my master keyboard (it's a truly lovely master keyboard and has channel aftertouch, I couldn't care less about poly aftertouch, I don't think I even own any synths that support it).
      Thanks again Jay.

  • @xoio

    Hi JayB, Just curious.
    Seeing as you own both the PLG150-AN AND the AN1X. Because the PLG board has 'more' oscillator waveforms than the AN1X, Is it capable of making sounds that the AN1X can't get close to? OR can the AN1X be pushed to compenate for any deficiencies it has in 'waveforms', and sound the same?

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  8 років тому +1

      +Phased Spaces Well, the PLG board has the Multi Saw and that makes the creation of trance synths much easier than fiddling around with polyphonic unisono mode and saw PWM on the AN1x. However, once you know the trick with the AN1x its sound is somewhat fuller than the PLG's, plus you can spread it in the stereo field. The side effect of the polyphonic unisono mode of the AN1x is however that playing chords creates a light strumming effect because the DSP is too weak. The PLG board is much tighter here.

    • @Quant-Beat
      @Quant-Beat 8 років тому

      +JayB Thanks a lot for you huge knowledge. I am picky, would you recommend to have both Yamaha AN1x and PLG 150 AN cards? Is there any disadvantage having two PLG 150 AN in a host CS6R? Is there any limitation driving both cards (10 voices)? Can I use PLG 150 AN fully in a CS6R? This question can very few answer qualified, and I believe you know it for sure. Thanks!

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  8 років тому +1

      +Luciano Drossi I'd always choose the AN1x over the board, because it's easier to operate and the sound is somewhat more vivid. I haven't yet tried two AN boards, I just know that you can operate them in different modes, as in polyphony extension or dual mode. I guess in Dual mode you can also emulate a polyphonic unisono mode when combined in performance mode. But that's all unchecked...

    • @Quant-Beat
      @Quant-Beat 8 років тому

      +JayB Now I have the CS6R with one PLG150-AN. How do you edit your PLG? I have the AN1xEditor, Yamaha's own from 1999, and it works playing notes on the software where the PLG150-AN responds, but no other parameters responds.

    Hey JayB, how many patterns this sound set has? The instructions say to bulk dump 64 voices but the ANS file has 56, then there are empty voices from 57 to 64, then there are voices from 65 to 128 that I can't say if they were there before as USER bank content. Thanks for the donation! The host synths like the S80 or the Motifs only support 64 user patches with editable effects and all so that's the maximum number of patches I will do for the PLG board. Patches 65 to 128 should be the default user patches. And yes, so far it's only 56 sounds.

      Not sure these sounds work in the CS6x, though I’m sure it could replicate many... if you are asking in general “how do I get sounds loaded on a CS6x”... For CS6x you either need - the old software and an old OS that runs it - or you need a SmartMedia Reader (usb). I just got one for my CS6x. The reader probably won’t need a driver - once you plug it in you can read the card on a pc or Mac. Just copy the files to the card, eject the card, put it in you CS6x and load the files... if you need the manual it is available at Yamaha to download as. PDF.

    Danke im voraus

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  5 років тому

      Dennis Spanka Die grundlegende Engine ist bei beiden gleich.
      AN1x: direkte Soundprogrammierung am Gerät, interne Effekte von guter Qualität aber überschaubarer Anzahl, polyphoner Unisono-Modus, max. 10 Stimmen polyphon
      PLG: Programmierung nur über Windows-Software, Sounds nutzen Effekte des Host-Synths (deutlich mehr Auswahl), Einbindung der Sounds etwas umständlich, zusätzliche Oszillatormodelle Multisaw und Dreieck, Pitch-Kurve mit Attack und Decay, nur Mono-Ausgabe, max 5 Stimmen polyphon, keine polyphoner Unisono-Modus
      Wenn du nicht gerade irgendwelche abgedrehten Effekte möchtest oder sehr auf Supersaw-Sounds stehst, würde ich den AN1x nehmen. Spaß macht das PLG-Board wohl erst dann, wenn du zwei davon hast. Und wenn du mich fragst, würde ich die lieber in einen Motif ES einbauen. Der hat auch von Haus aus die deutlich geilere Soundengine im vergleich zum CS6x.

      JayB
      Is there anything that the PLG150-AN can do that the AN1X can't? I know it has some slight differences in Waveforms (doublesaw) etc, but does the final sound, sound all that different from the AN1X? - From your AN1X demos, it sound pretty 'supersaw-ish' anyway.. But of course the AN1X has two DSPs to give double the poly.

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  9 років тому

      xoio The main difference is the two more oscillator models Multisaw and Triangle. The rest is pretty much the same, just half of it. The sound is a little bit different which most probably depends on the host synth.

    • @xoio
      @xoio 9 років тому

      JayB - cool, I think on the AN1X you can wave-shape using 'edge' to get Triangle And Sine anyway? - As for doublesaw, is it really 'that' much fatter to what the AN1X can do? I imaging using the AN1X's double poly, you can stack more than the AN anyway?

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  9 років тому

      xoio You can get sine, but you can't get a decent triangle. The multisaw are 5 sawtooth oscillators layered and detuneable and mixable like Roland's supersaw. It's a much thicker sound than just two sawtooth oscillators.
