  • Is Temu yarn really worth it? Temu yarn haul and review
    Want a crochet bargain? Temu a controversial subject right now? Thats ok I got you! In todays video I will be buying AND reviewing yarn that I bought from Temu.
    Not all of this yarn was a bargain, in fact I bought my most expensive ball of yarn TO DATE in this video at £17. But it was worth it watch and youll see! Want me to buy and review from another budget website? Let me know in the comments.

    Just a quick disclaimer - this is to show you what you can potentially get from Temu. Please appreciate not everyone is able to shop at other places as its not financially viable for them. Please also understand this was merley a demonstration and in no way was I stating i shop here all the time. I appreciate Temu has many many faults this video is to demonstrate yarn, not ethics. Let's keep the comments friendly guys 😊❤

      If your hobby is only affordable at the expense of other’s lives, you should find a different hobby. This excuse really doesn’t fly. “Oh, I know the yarn could be manufactured in one of the genocide camps in China that Temu openly sources from, but it’s the only way I can afford my hobby!” Kind of disgusting.

      If you want to shop on temu, do it. You don't owe explanations. I can afford to buy over priced yarn. I choose not to. Stop acting like America is so innocent. If you don't want to buy on temu then don't. Until I get sick from something I bought which I haven't. I will continue to shop on temu. I liked the quality

      „please understand not everyone is able to shop at other places as it is not financially viable“ is a nonsense statement in this situation. Thrift stores for example sell yarn for cheap. There is no excuse for supporting a company as horrible as Temu.

    • @R4780Y
      @R4780Y 8 місяців тому +4

      Considering the ten pound minimum spend to get free shipping, you can very well find yarn elsewhere for cheap, ethics aside. You might not be able to afford fluffy or fuzzy or chubby yarn that everyone else uses but if you value some poorly and cheaply made materials over the literal slavery and exploitation of other people then you shouldn't then you shouldn't even be in that crafting hobby, let alone selling things made from that yarn (like I've seen people do)

    Hey, just a heads up for everyone in the comments: look into the company first before buying. Ethics aside, their products have been found to contain dangerous levels of toxic elements, and there's allegations of them harvesting data too (which are likely to be true, how else would they be profiting off of such cheap prices). No hate to this video, I just think it's important that people are aware of these things before buying, since Temu definitely won't tell you.

    • @CrocreatebySarah

      Definitely there's many a video out there on UA-cam highlighting the pitfalls of Temu for sure 👌🏻 so please consider before you buy

    • @jmaddren
      @jmaddren 8 місяців тому +34

      Do you have any sources regarding the toxic chemicals? Just asking because so much stuff gets imported from China, all over the world, and from my experience it's the same stuff that seems to come from the same manufacturers that also sell to Amazon and other places that people have less problem with. This is all ethics aside, I think buying anything from a third world country thats being mass produced and sold for next to nothing is a major red flag. In saying that, some people are just literally dirt poor and you can hardly fault them for wanting to experience things that people with more wealth get to. I'm rambling and having a conversation with myself, sorry 😂

    The thing about Temu is that they share products with Amazon and other “low price stores”…all the same manufacturing joints, just relabelled. You can find very similar products in actual stores.
    While the practises of companies in Temu are condemnable, they simply do what other stores do, but Temu lets you skip the “middleman”, in a sort of way. As unfortunate as it is, it’s the way this system works :(

    • @irmagarcia4012
      @irmagarcia4012 8 місяців тому +3

      Exactly. I shop a lot in Temu for my crafts mostly. What I see and receive is things I could buy in my local stores but double the price. I ain’t got that money. 😂

    • @mumofcuties5873
      @mumofcuties5873 8 місяців тому +1

      @Cestyoo same here. I can't always afford the insane prices shops want. So yes, if I can get it for half the price elsewhere, then I will order it from places like temu, shein etc. It means I can still afford to do what I love, and even when I do go to actual stores to find something, they usually don't stock the item I need anyway. Or the mark up price of it is so expensive, that I refuse to pay that kind of money when I know I can get it way cheaper somewhere else.

    When buying items fron anywhere on the internet one must remember 3 things
    1. Buyer beware
    2. You get what you pay for
    3. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
    I have not had any issues with items I have ordered, but have carefully researched them against places here in US such as Walmart, craft stores, outlet stores, and brand websites.

    Thanks for this video. Really interesting look at some unusual/different yarns. To me, it certainly looks like being a site to look at. But I also think comparing prices with other outlets will be worth doing, especially when planning a large project. The extra big yarn, although interesting, seems a bit gimmicky to me - but I’m happy to be contradicted.

      The extra big yarn certainly can be gimicky for sure. I think a lot of people use it for things like cat and dog beds, baskets, sturdier items which I can see it working for however I think you'd need more than one ball lol. Love the different yarns I wish there was more than just colour variety here in the UK but then have no idea where the temu yarns actually come from 🤷‍♀️ it's great for originality but definitely not sustainable for larger projects in my opinion

    I've only purchased glow-in-the-dark yarn on Temu but I spoiled myself a bit for the glow-in-the-dark factor of it all and I was very happy with it! Temu was the cheapest for amount I could find her in the US, plus free shipping... I hate online shopping because of the added shipping price tags. I don't get to spend much money on myself so, I don't buy yarn too often. When I do it's usually only to make gifts and for my mother-in-law to sell at her church's craft fairs.

There is no stretch to the yarn and the strands are not wound tight enough to stay together so you will be dealing with splits the entire time. Hobium might have the fastest shipping (and a reasonable min. order size for free shipping), but their yarn is often more expensive (unless there's a good sale on what you want). In all 3 cases, shipping will be cheaper to you in the UK than it is to me in the USA.

      That last yarn company I mentioned was supposed to be Hobbii in Denmark, not Hobium (in Turkey, like Ice Yarns).

    I just ordered some yarn from them last week. I wish I would have seen this sooner. Do you know how to get another discount from them through the ( price adjustment) on the recipe? Saved me a lot over time. Ty for this video.

      My price adjustment came up as a flash sale type thing I think, I didn't put any special codes in or anything like that I'm afraid, it was only the second time I ordered from them so not sure if that has anything to do with it? I'm so sorry I can't be more helpful 😔

    I picked up a single skein of glow in the dark yarn from Temu, as well as a set of three variegated yarns in what I consider to be a unique colourway. I had intended to spend the fall learning to loom knit, and finding crochet stitches to work up, but had to shelve those plans to console and support a very sad and lonely senior cat who lost his brother last month and it's been hard on the both of us. Sad kitty actually derailed me pretty effectively by pooping on my yarn tools I had out on my work table.

    I’ve used their yarn and had no problems with it. I agree it is not as cheap as you think. Worth reviewing the market, see what is out there. Craft supplies are good but again, check other areas.

      Cotton should always be organic, its how the yarn is processed and if any chemicals are added which made me a bit dubious about buying on Temu 🙂

  • @india1422

      Personally I would love to support uk and British companies and sellers but a lot of the time the prices just don’t match and atm it’s money that’s important in most people loves as it’s the difference between doing something and not.
      A lot of our stores that you can get it at the same prices are like pound land and b&m and they are huge companies the same but you physically see the product so in my opinion not much different.
      It’s not like going into a small independent craft shop- we have 2 wool shops near where I live and they are £5 + for 50g of yarn…. It’s a lot. I’ve stopped buying as can’t afford to do it atm.

      @@cherylhowker1792 Yeah, they're probably trying to make money

    The pompom yarn looks like roving, you should never knit or crochet with roving as it will fall apart. The mega chunky yarn looks like a really long tube of fabric sewn closed and stuffed with toy filler, you could probably make it yourself for way cheaper!

    Due to economic strain on businesses and especially shipping companies in different countries obligated to use their services to honor "free" shipping, I refrain from doing biz with this company... No matter the "deals". Not sure I trust the quality or safety of Chinese products.
