I always liked the 13 inch, and the 14 inch fits perfectly for me. But apart from portability, a “real difference” of only 200$ in same specked models seems tempting, yet amazing. I do acknowledge thermals, but still it delivers. Like how you only decided an iPad Pro for the size not the power,
I tested the 16.2" in the Apple store. Yes, the screen is amazing, but I as expecting that. It was the sound that blew me away. Not only was the bass omnipresent, but the quality was terrific. Also, the separation of the instruments was very evident and unique among laptops. Definitely something that I am considering to buy.
Surprising that the14" did not thermal throttle the CPU at those temperatures. Would be interesting to see this test on the 14" & 16" machines with the M1 Max chips. I have a feeling that the performance of the 14" will lag behind the 16" when they are both running the M1 Max chips.

Nice video guys, I can tell that a UA-cam video is not here for clicks when it is more than 15 mins long :D it means it has content; and every one of your launch week videos has been between 25 to 30 mins. That said, from this video it looks like the 14" is good for when you need the huge compute power but in bursts and do not need all of it all the time, plus you are on the go a lot and the smallest amount of space saved makes a difference and want to carry your work with you a lot. This is because of the smaller battery, poorer thermals compared to 16" and also the smaller size. The 14" definitely not meant for gaming on the go (apart from the argument that macbooks are not for gaming, I feel the M1s are gonna change that). But for sustained performance at cooler temps and better battery overall, the 16" definitely makes a lot of sense. Has head room for pushing it and can keep going for long, not to mention better screen real estate but all at the cost of increased size and weight ... I'd probably go for the 16" for my use case, but for my wife the 14" is perfect.
Hi, Max! Thanks again for another great video. I have my eye on the New 14" M1 Pro MacBook as of the moment, really hoping to afford one. I think the 14" M1 Pro MacBook is a perfect choice for me as a student because it can handle heavy tasks. I've been saving up for a new laptop to study with and should be getting one this year, but sadly all the money I had saved went to household expenses. Anyways lets cut that sad truth... looking forward to all your future videos! Thank you again Max, Your videos are always amazing.
To me, it seems like the 16" will last longer as it seems to stay cooler during bursts of computing and hence thermally stressing components less. So I definitely would prefer it for that - but the portability of the 14" is so compelling. I'm still at a loss 😅 Great video regardless!
As someone who always preferred 13” for portability but had to eventually buy something bigger because performance was so embarrassing, I’m glad we’re finally past that!
Yeah, the 14in is keeping up pretty well, but another Max Tech video shows that it can be up to a 30% difference in performance between an equally specced M1 Max 14in and M1 Max 16in.

After dealing with a 15” intel mbp for years, I’m pretty sure the 14” fan noise isn’t noticeable in comparison. I’m curious to hear the difference firsthand.
Of course everything is larger with the 16" model! Did he expect that Apple gonna put the same small components of the 14" into the 16" and leave some space for fun? The reaction for the fan is so lame and overexaggerated :)
as someone who gets impatient with running any kind of creative software either of these machines would really be a life saver. thanks for the opportunity guys and keep up the great work!
Finally, the time has passed when a small, thin body obstructed powerful sound, thick keys, and ruled out full-size ports on the body. more brutal industrial design suits these computers!
I love that now you can get the 14" with the same amount of power as 16", But yet I will surely choose the 16" Macbook $2500. :D Keep up the great work tho 😍😃
Another great video, I love this channels enthusiasm, it comes across as fair and not fanboyish as some other channels I've watched. Keep up the good work guys.
I have been waiting for this MacBook for so long! I have been a big fan ever since the beginning. You guys cover up so many things that most other UA-camrs don’t. People must be thinking that microphone, camera, speaker quality etc. doesn’t really matter that much, but it’s these small things that can really help us make our decision because such things are sometimes important for us. Like I said, I have waited for this Mac notebook for so long time as all the new ones only had USB-C ports, and buying additional dongles can be a huge spend of money because AUX, HDMI and SD card slot really does matter to me. My dad has a 2015 MacBook Pro and professional softwares like capture one, Lightroom Photoshop, Final Cut Pro X, Resolve etc. run very slow processing extremely high quality RAW images and videos as he is a professional photographer and does cinematography, so the Mini LED is a huge plus. Even being able to download mobile applications on Mac OS is the best of both worlds. I would love to win this Mac notebook and know whoever does is going to love this beast of a machine.
Absolutely loving your videos! You guys are by far my favorite to watch when it comes to tech! Keep up the quality videos; so many people, including me, appreciate your level of thoroughness and attention to detail!
Thanks for an excellent comparison and analysis. I had been leaning towards the 16”, simply because of the bigger screen and likely bigger battery. I had not thought about differences in the sound systems, and I had not expected the thermal differences to be so significant. To me, it seems clear that it is well worth paying the extra $200, if you can. My current MacBook Pro is 8 years old, so I need to replace it asap. I now know what to buy. 😀
Hey Max- any time you’re reviewing the performance on music software like Logic or Ableton, it would be much more helpful if you could specify what sample rate you’re using since this drastically changes the CPU load and latency, etc. thanks so much for the valuable content!
@@MaxTechOfficial nice to see you’re actually testing 4 note chords, I was worried you were doing the silly one-note MIDI thing that a lot of tech channels do. Ableton would be nice to see as well since it isn’t optimized but just as popular
14 inch absolutely more portable for me. I'm from Indonesia. I use the Macbook Air M1 since January 2021, base model, best value, best portability. Review video by Max Tech made me bought the Macbook Air M1, best suggestion from Max Tech 😀👍
I love these machines, and your coverage is so comprehensive, seeing as we don’t even have an Apple store in Dublin its the next best thing. Thanks for all your hard work in making them!
Awesome hardware! But I'm upgrading from my late 2016 MB Pro 13" to the Surface Laptop Studio i7 1TB model instead. Macbooks just can't compete with the versantility, I really want pen + touch for drawing game assets and photo editing. I wish Apple wasn't so stubborn and finally modernized their laptops, but oh well. They are solid otherwise when it comes to the hardware.
Very Useful to some casual user like me. I will buy the 16 inches for better cooling and better speaker. Better cooling means the machine may last longer/reliable and the battery definitely last longer time (because the 16 inches no need to turn on cooling fan so often).
Another great video.😊 These laptops are great, and those fans? Wow. It's amazing that a laptop can benchmark so high while keeping a low thermal profile. Now we just need to wait and see if the competition will do the same... notch included 😁
The Logic Pro test could've employed more serial processing as in more effect plugins on the same track to further overload individual CPU cores. All in all, I think the 14" did well except I personally wouldn't want to have that particular configuration if I were to buy it myself.
I don't think the next MacBook Air will focus on performance. Have you seen the rumoured redesign? It seems like an iPad Pro body with a screen attached! Super thin! Think Apple will make battery and portability (making it as light as possible) the focus of the new MacBook Airs, and performance should be on par or better than the M1.
This has been the review I was looking for. I’m interested in the 14 inch but I wanted to see if there is a performance loss compared to the same spec 16 inch model. This was super helpful, thank you guys!!
Thanks for detailed comparison. While 14” sure packs a punch, definitely going for 16” having seen all these small QOL benefits here and there. Speakers, battery, more real estate screen, cooling system. Also with lockdown not really finished and going by car everywhere I don’t see how it’s less portable.
Hate you guys make this video, still waiting my 14” but wanting 16” now 😅 But I need that portability though soo yeah.. gonna stay with 14” Thnx for such a great comparison video
I went to the Apple store today because I needed to finally make up mind. After picking and moving the 16 inch around I returned my 14 inch M1 Max. The weight difference was nothing, Idk if thats due to the weight distribution or something but I literally couldnt feel any difference. Also Portability wise it easily fits in my Computer bag, So idk I think the 16 and 14 are both great for travel. Now to wait for my 16 to arrive, luckily I was indecisive from the start so I had ordered both but Im not getting the 16 till end of november 😭
I love the fact that I can just cite this video in my own 14” and 16” comparison 😂😅 Thanks you guys for making this video… because I NEVER could lmao. But that’s what makes tech UA-cam great. Everyone has their speciality! This channel is hands down the BEST for Mac testing, period. ❤️
The amount of effort you guys put in your videos is tremendous! Thank you for the amazingly detailed videos that help the consumers decide whether to buy the new MacBook Pros or not, and if yes, which specs suit their demands, etc. keep up the amazing work!
Hey Max, such a good comparison and it really amazing that the 16” has greater hardware which I think definitely worth for the extra $200 if don’t consider its weight and dimension! Actually Apple really put much effort in this generation for the MBP family no matter for the 14” or 16”!
Hats off to Apple for being so diligent in packing the same specs into both laptops! I contacted Apple to understand the differences between the 14 & 16” versions and they told me 10% of what this video uncovers.
The 14" inch is really impressive, how portable and powerful it is, but for someone who rarely go outside, if I can choose, i'll pick the 16" for more screen real estate and better cooling :D
Definitely interested in the new Macbook pro line up especially that 14", perfect balance between performance & portability. Thank you for continuing to review them for us!
The pre-Touchbar, 2015 and before MBPs were excellent machines, but their unibody chassis did flex a bit, and was susceptible to slight permanent deformations over time. I suspect that on these M1 MBPs, the chassis hooks to which the back cover remains attached, even after removing the screws, must be significantly contributing to the additional rigidity and solidity of the case. These hooks were absent on the older MBPs and make back cover removal thus more difficult, but the benefit in terms of added system rigidity and improved protection against mechanical stresses of internal components like the motherboard and the cooling heat pipes are worth it, IMHO.
The 14" should honestly be the go-to MacBook pro for any user, however, the 16" is still worth it if you want more screen real estate, slightly longer battery life, and a bigger laptop overall.
The 14” MBP would definitely benefit from having a fan control app installed. It seems like Apple’s fan curve is designed for silence rather than thermals.
Just saw a tough stress test between identically specced machines 14/16: temps were matched, but the fans were near 5000 rpm in the 14 and nudging 3000 in the 16. The 14s control temps well, but fans have to work quite a lot harder. If temps are a concern go the 16 inch way. If portability is paramount go 14, aware that it will run hotter. The 16 is just a smidge more expensive (at identical configuration) justified by the screen, battery life and thermals.
I really hoped the 14" model wouldn't become a hot frying pan with the M1 MAX (32 cores). But seeing how it thermal throttles with just the M1 pro I doubt it.
Our comes in soon! Yea after seeing this and knowing that the M1 Max chip on the 16” is heavier than the M1 Pro on the 16” where on the 14” it’s the same weight has me worried too. We’ll find out soon!
Great comparison! I'm getting a M1 Pro 16 inch tomorrow refurbished offer the 14inch M1 and M2. This really sold me on the 16. I'm coming from the Intel Mac 16. Keyboard went out and no need to fix a keyboard on old tech. I'll convert it to a desktop with a keyboard and mouse. Keep up the good work!
This is a tougher decision 14” vs 16”. As a laptop, the 14” is better being more portable. The bigger laptop can feel to awkward on the lap. But without monitors, the bigger screen may be better.
It’s so nice to have a deep review like this. Most reviewers are very biased to their day to day and focus on telling you whether you should buy it or not rather than showing the pros and cons of each model

For me it’s definitely 16” model for the reason that was not mentioned in a video but it’s big for us older folks - eye sight. Weaker eyes require larger screen to have enlarged fonts for better reading and recognition of elements. Thanks guys.
Yep , older or less good peepers is also a major factor why all my phones are full size too mate , also if you are a big dude , more keyboard space for large mitts is also nicer .
That's the reason I bought 17" before.
Love how your videos span out for longer periods of time rather than a lot of smaller videos. You don’t see that often . Appreciate the amazing content Guys❤️
I'll go for the 14" because of the portability. Thanks for showing us the differences!
my favorite apple stuff channel, 1 million subscribers in the end of this year ! greetings from Indonesia !
Agreed, they make the best in depth videos!
Yeah, the vids are just so good, they have every important aspect that should be brought... So fun to watch and look at stuff you can't afford as a student...
Great comparison. Love my 16“. So if I should win, please pass it on. You guys rock!
What a genuinely kind gesture… good on you man!

Great video
So was the sound better than that of the 14 inch one?
Loving 14" even more especially seeing how well it stands compared to 16"
Winning this would be amazing! Thanks for the opportunity.
Thanks for all these reviews, especially the Logic Pro tests. One of the best channels for tests right now!
Surprising that the14" did not thermal throttle the CPU at those temperatures. Would be interesting to see this test on the 14" & 16" machines with the M1 Max chips. I have a feeling that the performance of the 14" will lag behind the 16" when they are both running the M1 Max chips.
Because these temperatures are not correct
@@yourmommashouse Other software gives different results. Usually much lower temps
14" is like a sprinter on short distance compared to 16", which is a sprinter on long distance. If you want to do serious work, on and on and on, 16" is the way. Read my findings after using both machines for months.
@@saiko2225555 I need do decide between 14" and 16". Im doing 4k Video edting and will either go to university as a software engineer or graphic designer. At the moment im using an old dell 15.6 and its just uncomftable to carry to school everyday... so i was always thinking of getting the 14" but i dont want to have thermal throttles. At home it will be plugged in to 2 external monitors... Also i will prbly get the lowest M1Max Chip... Whats ur opinion on that? Should i go for the 14" cause for me its very important its not that big and heavy or u say i should go with the 16" even tho my back is gonna hurt from that extra weight and i need to buy a bag for the 16" cause it will not fit in my backpack...
@@legendjxli1266 at the very start the 14” was doing job perfectly (easy lightroom, ps, capture one stuff), but when the machine was running and gunning under high stress (stitching, hdrs, layers) with ssd 50% full, 2 monitors etc. the laaaaags started to appear and it was just impossible to work. Sizewise it is perfection!
Now i have 16”, never lags under high stress. Site is a bit bigger but slim enough to go around.
So it really depends, you wanna have sort if bulletproof laptop for work and never lag, or be a bit more comfortable when carying stuff. I’m not even a bit uncomfortable when speeding around with 16” in a backpack. Would make a bigger impact in a messenger bag i guess (shoulder would hurt eventually).
:)
This video was really useful to me. Good job!
14s portability is just what's needed. it's literally the perfect size
God bless the Max Tech Team for the hard work this week!
I've been locked on the 14 because I love the size for portability but this comparison really opened my eyes. I would have never even thought to think about fan noise!! Awesome stuff as always
Thank you for coming out with the video. I have been shopping and comparing Max a lot lately. I’m disabled with MS and in a group home for disabled people out in Arizona. I’ve been looking at the comparison a lot. If I spend the money I want it to be the worth it. Thank you again for the video. And the comparison.
I got the 16 inch and I’m loving the size, weight, and the extra screen real estate. It performs like a beast. Battery life is insane and I STILL haven’t heard the fan turn on once, and with heavy video editing. Apple did good on this one, which is great for all of us
Are you still enjoying it Guy?
@@Mandem909 I am loving it! It’s been months now and the thing is still performing like a beast. Still haven’t heard the fans kick it when video editing. Boots up faster than any laptop I had previously. It is still the best laptop I have used to date

Really hope you reach 1 Million by the end of the year.
My thoughts on the speakers? If your really are interested in good audio you don’t listen via your laptop even with a 2021 MacBook Pro.
I've never even considered the 16" and now it actually makes more sense 😮 thanks a lot for all the tests! my inner photographer is just dying looking at that export time 🤯
Woah congrats on your 805k subscribers!!! Keep up the good work !!
I was ready to go for the 14’’ with no hesitation, but after your video I ain’t sure anymore AT ALL.
I have a 15’’ Retina mid June 2012 (almost dying), so I need to upgrade, and this time I was thinking about investing into a better portability. The 14’’ with M1 Pro seemed to be the perfect choice for me, with 1To or 2To ssd. But now I don’t know. You put a doubt in my head guys 😅
Which did you go for?
@@Mandem909 the 14", and Im glad I did. I saw the 16" not so long ago, it's huge and heavy. If you need portability, go with the 14", no doubt

@@jeebtheboss good insight. I have a 2015 13 inch Pro at the moment and have enjoyed the portability but would like a larger screen. The 14 could be the best of both worlds
This is exactly what I needed! Now there’s no doubt in my mind: when I’m ready to get a new laptop, it’ll be the 16”.
I debated the same... Then I remembered the 140w charger upgrade.
To me, it seems like the 16" will last longer as it seems to stay cooler during bursts of computing and hence thermally stressing components less. So I definitely would prefer it for that - but the portability of the 14" is so compelling. I'm still at a loss 😅
Great video regardless!

Hey, you are already over 800k subscribers! 🎉 Great job, guys! 💪 Almost there for 1M. Honestly, you totally deserve it with your reviews. 👍
Your videos influence my purchase decisions the most.
The detail these guys go through is 🔥 defs deserve that million subs and thought that was the case when they did all the M1 tests.
Can’t wait for M1 Max 8K super test
After dealing with a 15” intel mbp for years, I’m pretty sure the 14” fan noise isn’t noticeable in comparison. I’m curious to hear the difference firsthand.
This was a really interesting comparison. The 16" would definitely be my choice with those cooler temps
I'd definitely spend the extra money for the 16" model. The sound on the 16" is noticeably better than the 14". Great review!
I always love how Vadim presents tech news and reviews :) It literally feels for me like I want to listen to whatever he speaks about forever :)
Good video guys!
Amazing videos. Wish i had one of these laptops for school.
Oh well, i can only dream.
Wow! The way the 14” model kept up with the 16” even with the high temps was incredible!
Great informative video ... You had me at the larger fans ... I was on the 14" side . But once you took the back off I am definitely going for the 16"
I have been waiting for this MacBook for so long!
Hey guys! Here is the info: www.logicprohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=138612
@@MaxTechOfficial nice to see you’re actually testing 4 note chords, I was worried you were doing the silly one-note MIDI thing that a lot of tech channels do. It would be nice to see a more realistic version with a real orchestral project or something, but nonetheless I appreciate you including Logic.
Best and most detailed reviews of everything apple. I don’t know anyone who comes close
Me: "These new machines would really make my uni work a breeze"
Bank account: *_cries in poor_*
Another great video.😊
These laptops are great, and those fans?
Used my16” M1 for 21/2 weeks & love screen size & speakers for music videos
The details you put into the comparison are good! Amazing that these macs really pack the performance. I wonder how the next MacBook Air would be 🤔
I don't think the next MacBook Air will focus on performance. Have you seen the rumoured redesign? It seems like an iPad Pro body with a screen attached! Super thin! Think Apple will make battery and portability (making it as light as possible) the focus of the new MacBook Airs, and performance should be on par or better than the M1.
@@GoldGiggler woah! It sounds amazing! I'd love to know more about it
This is very impressive! Thanks for taking the time to test scenarios such as this, it convinced me to look into the 16".
This has been the review I was looking for. I’m interested in the 14 inch but I wanted to see if there is a performance loss compared to the same spec 16 inch model. This was super helpful, thank you guys!!
MAX TECH always make MAX Comparison.. Love to the MAX..🖤
What about today’s scenario? Now for the time being the lockdown has been lifted almost all the countries out there.
Hate you guys make this video, still waiting my 14” but wanting 16” now 😅
But I need that portability though soo yeah.. gonna stay with 14”
Thnx for such a great comparison video
I went to the Apple store today because I needed to finally make up mind. After picking and moving the 16 inch around I returned my 14 inch M1 Max. The weight difference was nothing, Idk if thats due to the weight distribution or something but I literally couldnt feel any difference. Also Portability wise it easily fits in my Computer bag, So idk I think the 16 and 14 are both great for travel. Now to wait for my 16 to arrive, luckily I was indecisive from the start so I had ordered both but Im not getting the 16 till end of november 😭

Hey Max, such a good comparison and it really amazing that the 16” has greater hardware which I think definitely worth for the extra $200 if don’t consider its weight and dimension! Actually Apple really put much effort in this generation for the MBP family no matter for the 14” or 16”!
Unless portability is key the 16 looks like a more capable, cost effective machine. It doesn't break a sweat.
If you rarely go outside, you may be better off with a desktop. Just sayin.

Best macbook reviews I have ever watched.Keep it up guys💪
The 14" looks so good honestly. The 16" though, barely looks like it's portable
I agree, the 14" looks more proportional.
The 14" should honestly be the go-to MacBook pro for any user, however, the 16" is still worth it if you want more screen real estate, slightly longer battery life, and a bigger laptop overall.
It is bulky and heavy.
Great vid!
I gotta admit the M1 Macbook Air is more than adequate for the coding and amateur photography/gopro videos, but that Macbook Pro is amazing.
OK perfect, now I'm more confused! Can I have a 16" instead of a 14" when I win the giveaway? Lol, Amazing Head to Heads guys, keep it up!
Hi Max, been following you for years now on my other account. I hit that sub button when you were starting and you’ve always saved me from making wrong decisions buying a laptop. Anyway, here’s my story, I started with a Macbook pro, the white model, that was 2012-ish? Then, I switched to Windows because you were into XPS. This year, like now, I decided to buy an XPS 15 9510…after 7 days I decided to return it because of the battery. I get 4 hours of light usage, with a notepad, task manager, google chrome apps and battery settings to monitor my power usage. Which should not be the case. This time, because I dropped by your video, I’ll buy the base model Macbook Pro 16” with that M1 chip! I hope I’ve seen this video before I bought the XPS. Great content as always! 🤩
