Found your channel recently, been watching tons of vids and have really enjoyed em! It's like if someone combined all the awesome things I learned in therapy with genuinely useful self-help skills. Commenting mostly because it keeps coming up in passing but is actually almost touched on here: at 2:30, you point at how self-image is broken into different categories, and you include a 6th for "sexual" (but describe it by describing it as gender roles). I'm nonbinary (one of those "they/them"s) so gender was always one of those things that felt like dividing by zero - it made no intuitive sense, and the longer i'd spend trying to make sense of it, the more likely I'd be to get frustrated and give up. No combination of parental figures or people I looked up to or internet knowledge seemed to make a difference; at best it felt like some arcane knowledge where if I did the right rituals and gaslit myself into embracing the ideals laid out by someone else, then I could finally "fit" somewhere. But ultimately, I always felt imprisoned in a glass box of other people's creation, which I forced on myself because everyone else was doing it (and also seemed equally as miserable, so obviously it must be NORMAL). I'm writing all this out because while I've never felt acknowledged in your muchacho/a sign-off, that's fine (society actively tries to disregard people like me anyway, it's not a you thing), but here you pretty directly gesture to it without actually going into it at all. I'm curious to know why - I personally don't have any sense of this mystical 6th aspect, not in myself and not in other people (I can identity descriptive qualities that others attribute to masc/fem, but I don't intuitively make those associations on my own). So I'm genuinely curious if this is something you think people deeply have a sense of, or if it's more something people begrudgingly accept and then force onto themselves so as to make the distinction mean something to them. I know plenty of people who deeply intuitively know what "box" they belong to (to the point where they choose to make their lives hell by aligning with what they know to be true about themselves, to the ire of society that "disagrees" with their existence), but most people don't seem to be that way at all. You seem like a kind level-headed guy, so I'm curious to know what you think
Same! These vids have good info, calm presentation & not overstimulating, pleasant voice to listen to.. ADHD + multiple chronic tick infections that affect my nervous system and make me pretty sensitive to sensory stimuli..
That will come later, 1 step is to plagiarise others peoples work from books, internet etc. step 2 once the subs have plateaued is to make the vids more slick while repeating content they’ve already made. Who would of thought so many in their early 20s would have so much wisdom 🤔
I’ve noticed that people with low self-esteem attach their identity to the mistakes they make. While people with high self esteem just make peace with the mistake and say, it’s part of the game.

Poor advice that is pretty much bro science, you just become exhausted and unable to ward off the negative thought patterns. I've been regularly exercising for 15 years to the point of exhaustion and it hasnt helped

It doesn’t necessarily mean you have to run a marathon or do 15 muscle ups whenever you’re ruminating, the point is to focus 100% on something external. Even just breathing exercises. The mind obsessively worries about past/future, but you can always re-centre yourself back to the present moment by focusing on the physical. Although I still had a breakdown a few hours ago so you probably shouldn’t listen to me lol
I love to see young people take on the original self help concepts of the 70s - back then it was all about identity, none of that ‘just grind bro’ superficial bs

I guess when social media became a thing, showing other people how hard you work became the new status symbol - which caused people to want to be like the grind bros - so the grind bros would offer the advice of just grind. ahahaha. one big grind cycle! Im in process of self healing my childhood traumas and while waking up for toilet i got anxiety attack, went on yt to distract myself and this video showed. Video was not what i needed, but the way you spoke felt so natural and precise it completely resonated with me, and i went trough your videos, your explanations helped me deal with trauma 26 years old. Because it happened when i was 5 this fear took away all my urges and all my self and i was living like nothingness all my life. I finally got to it, accepted my emotions, understood it, explained it, and felt such ease that i just cannot express how thanfull i am. I never stopped fighting, i got over depression, self destruction (because i hated my empty self), drug and alcohol addiction, but there was always this ugly trauma that would just sweep away any urge or instinct, emotion, desire i had, and i was pretty much clueless and helpless until now. Your babushka exercise made me realize I love that I will stop everything to help someone in need. My two favorite things I've ever done were rescuing a cat dumped in my neighborhood on a below-freezing day, and giving a car-less coworker a ride to the hospital to visit her mom on mothers day. When I did those things I felt 100% clear-headed, confident, and calm. I would love to feel that way about other aspects of myself. Thank you.
In order to transform our self-concept, that's a massive point you made that's all too easy to gloss over: in order to change, a key aspect is learning to *interpret things differently.* In the messy middle of personal alchemy, that shift often requires us to go against every fibre of our (usual) being, depending on the automatic programmed thinking-feeling response that's flooding us in the moment, depending on the circumstance. It's no small undertaking, though that being said, *change is always possible.* P.S. Huge congrats on 200k! Yoooooo! 🎉

Our brain always wants to predict the probability of future outcomes based on the evidence provided from past events. In order to change, we must focus primarily on possibility-on what we can create in the future moving forward-versus our tendency to always look back to past "proof". 💡

Because of the human brain's natural negativity bias (focusing on problems and potential threats to our safety and security), we automatically tend to steer our thinking towards negative "what ifs..." What if this fails? What if I embarrass myself? What if I never amount to anything? These negative "what ifs" are almost always tied to past events where we experienced things not working out the way we'd hoped, so we predict the likelihood of future outcomes based on what we've already experienced in the past. "If it didn't work out then, why would it work out now?" Instead, with that knowledge of the sneaky ways our brain plays tricks on us, we can train ourselves to think in more beneficial ways to help us grow and create new results-at the very least, summon the courage to take action, regardless of the outcome. We can intentionally guide our thoughts towards ideal future outcomes that would serve us in a more productive and better feeling way. Leaning into positive "what ifs..." What if this succeeds? Thank you very much for your content, it's so pacific, calm yet so important. One thing that helps me a lot to bring my unconscious to the light of knowledge it to freely journal asking 'why' and write down whatever comes to mind, do an analysis and compare if what I think reflects on material reality ( such as how people respond to me or what are the consequences of my acts ), keeping in mind a positive action - emotional process and I'm not always wrong about what I think of myself, but helps me to be more flexible and understand where I need more attention, such as insecurities . Helps me a lot !

I’ve been really struggling with my self image for years, mostly due to bullying and an abusive relationship. I struggle with PTSD and depression, and I’m neurodivergent. I hadn’t realised until a few months ago that I really don’t like myself. This video was so needed thank you! Im going to try harder to be the person I want to be, and not just the victim of everything that has happened to me, because I can be so much more than that!

I love that you use an actual whiteboard, but also edit the video to remove the whiteboard things that just take up extra time like drawing complex things, erasing things, realizing you accidentally used the wrong marker that one time and having to scrub over it with a real whiteboard marker and then erase that a couple times to get the marks off, and making silly jokes about your drawing skills to fill the time while drawing is happening... So basically - it's like school but more engaging :) Every stroke you actually show is either making a point or serving as a transition into a new part of what you're talking about! And because it's a whiteboard and not an animation, it's easier to not get distracted thinking about how the animation might have been made or how it could have been done better. Keeps the focus on the topic. (Had to write this up for that same purpose xD Now back to watching!)

I have been focusing on bringing awareness and conscious understanding to myself and others mainly through embracing the peace that lies within and letting our self perceived often low self images melt away in the love that is at our foundation of life. Amazing video! One thing that I noticed about NLP is that it does not work directly with inner children psyche parts (see IFS) which hold the belief systems that are of the past and are now limited and dysfunctional. Without shadow work NLP can be used to repress those belief systems without liberating the stuck energy that is still stored in those limiting beliefs. What I take from this video is that NLP and shadow work need to go hand in hand. Thank you for this gem of a video!

17:20 I think that's a very important point and that's why I want to explain it a bit more. Also I like explaining. Every situation has no value on its own. When a loved one dies, someone insults you, someone gives you a present or whatever. All these situations are like a stone dropping onto another stone. No value, just molecules moving around. YOU, who perceives the situation, create the emotion in your head. YOU give it a value, YOU create the responding emotion. When someone dies, that is not sad. It makes you feel sad. When you play a game, the game is not fun. You experience fun while playing it. And not archieving something you worked for isn't disappointing and doesn't mean you were too lazy. You interpret the situation in a certain way, so that you conclude that you were too lazy and that disappoints you. Emotions are ALWAYS a representation of reality that is also heavily biased based on your personality, past, believes, etc. DO NOT BELIEVE THAT ANYTHING YOU FEEL IS THE ACTUAL REALITY
Almost right. You need to live a little more and see why the death of a loved one is sad no matter how much clinical stoicism or nihilism is involved. How one carries the involuntary, natural and unavoidable grief is what matters.
@@jenmdawg it's good that you say this, because, even though we create the emotion in our brain, that does absolutely not mean that you have full control over them. Realizing that emotions come from our brain only helps to disconnect from a situation, but of course, depending on the situation, sometimes you cannot just disconnect and throw away the emotion. I would personally say that I am mentally prepared for a death of a loved one, but due to lack of experience, I, of course, cannot be sure there. But what I want to say is, I honestly don't really know ehat can help a person, who is suffering under the loss of someone. Sadness in that case is also hardwired in our brains to some degree, so I guess, to some extend, you cannot do anything and have to 'endure' it (when the pain doesn't fade, then there is a reason for that that can be found and solved). So what I want to say is, the emotion is still being created inside our brain, a situation itself is just a situation that everyone perceives differently. But that doesn't mean that you can just say "the emotion comes from my brain so I just turn it off" or something. Depending on the exact problem, it can be incredibly much more difficult
part of the explanation in 2 helped me to clarify a point ive been working on. why we obsess and like you said think negatively, its yourself feeding emotion into a thought. thats why its important to examine your thoughts without judgement and this allows them to pass smoothly.
You have no idea who I am or why I watch your videos, but I have been watching for a long time. As a former psych major (studied psyche for years and always felt like “but yeah, I’m not interested [well, not exactly true] in dealing with fucked up people, I’m interested in the greater scope of humanity and knowing why they follow the patterns they do) I have been nothing short of impressed with the knack you have for distilling basic, but crucial, concepts into something consumable by the masses. Kudos to you! I was hit with a heavy blow at 6am whilst at work, from an unknowing colleague. They asked me about someone who is a friend of mine but they asked in the past tense. I’d been “off-island” for 4 days and focused on the person I was visiting, so had no idea that my friend had taken their own life whilst I was away. Fucking gutted. Had to wait my 10 hour shift to go home and begin to sort my shit out and your video popped up and I thought, yeah, fuck it, I like this dude (sorry, California girl; only recently been brought to my attention that I refer to lots of PNW folks as ‘dude’ hahaha) and although this vid didn’t have much to do with the grief I am navigating, it still brought me comfort and, honestly, awe at the breadth and depth of the human experience that you consistently cover in your videos. As a woman who is days away (Nov 5 😭) from her 51st birthday, you make me long for the wisdom I would have benefitted from years ago, in spite of the fact that I started out in psychology! I’m sorry this was so rambling, but I am dealing with some raw fuckin’ grief but wanted to give you some feedback since I watch (listen, really) to your content regularly. Good video lewis. If we can change our concept of self, then our surroundings will change easily. This is the science behind success, many people get rich can't explain how or why they got rick except consistency, hard work. The working of sub concious mind is the science of success n failure.
I would add that the language of the subconscious is feelings. Our conscious mind translates this into thoughts. Practice and rehearse the feelings that support the thoughts that will create the results. Feelings first.

Even though the concept of self worth seems simple- it’s so complicated! Thank you for breaking down the hours of research you must have done for us in your informative video. I’ll be sure to apply ‘maintaining a positive attitude’ as well as being more self aware that my present view of a situation is based on past experiences and how I subconsciously view myself. If you can just wave your magic babushka and find some information as to how an alexathymic person with terrible interoception can recall positive past experiences and how those experiences physically felt I could fulfill the other portion of the reprogramming and be all set 😝
With great videos, come great (as in large) comments: It is so refreshing to see this kind of simple YT video. Who says that each one has to have incessant seizure inducing editing, expensive backgrounds, multiple cameras, SFX and 3D animations? What YT is lacking is pure humanness and humour. And whiteboards! I'm positively surprised that most of your audience is male. That is quite reassuring because most dudes desperately need to work on changing and reprogramming themselves. This is coming from a male mediation teacher, who held lessons and workshops to people of many cultures and backgrounds, but "unfortunately" mostly women. This was a lot to take in, but considering the importance and the scope of the topic, I'd say you've condensed it pretty good! I'd just like to add something simple that always works for my reprogramming - I assume I could be wrong. Even about myself! One-word mantra of the year: Maybe.

There's this best friend that I had growing up in a foreign country for 17 years and for some reason I had to leave after high school and go back to my country. Anyways. 15 years later, he came to visit me in my homeland and I was so nervous and clumsy the whole time he was there and he pointed it out which hurt my feelings. I realized the reason I was acting this way is that I was afraid he wouldn't like the person I've become because I don't like her. So I guess believing something about yourself makes it true to others as well. I want so much to change the image I have for myself in my mind.

I just want to say that the fear of f.e. a job interview is not always based on past experiences, based on the personality or anything else like that. I was very afraid of a job interview even though I had literally not a single reason. I would take every outcome as it is, there was not a single scenario I could come up with that would make me feel bad during or after the interview. That's where I realized that my fear is literally the same like my fear from spiders. I know that both my parents are very afraid of such things (job interviews, calls and such stuff) and I think epigenetics played it's role and I inherited that from them. It is a fear that fully disappeared after the second job interview, so, I just want to say, sometimes you are just born with a fear that you can only fight (but absolutely most of the time the reason lies within you)

Acctually I think I am on the path... Because today was the day I discovered that some groups make narc behaviour from every little thing and that they should check themselves little bit on that, also, I know of it, but I no longer vibe with the environment of it, because it is too much from left and right and even if it is help at some point on other point it is kinda negative clutter

Im in process of self healing my childhood traumas and while waking up for toilet i got anxiety attack, went on yt to distract myself and this video showed. Video was not what i needed, but the way you spoke felt so natural and precise it completely resonated with me, and i went trough your videos, your explanations helped me deal with trauma 26 years old. Because it happened when i was 5 this fear took away all my urges and all my self and i was living like nothingness all my life. I finally got to it, accepted my emotions, understood it, explained it, and felt such ease that i just cannot express how thanfull i am. I never stopped fighting, i got over depression, self destruction (because i hated my empty self), drug and alcohol addiction, but there was always this ugly trauma that would just sweep away any urge or instinct, emotion, desire i had, and i was pretty much clueless and helpless until now. Your babushka exercise made me realize I love that I will stop everything to help someone in need. My two favorite things I've ever done were rescuing a cat dumped in my neighborhood on a below-freezing day, and giving a car-less coworker a ride to the hospital to visit her mom on mothers day. When I did those things I felt 100% clear-headed, confident, and calm. I would love to feel that way about other aspects of myself. Thank you.
In order to transform our self-concept, that's a massive point you made that's all too easy to gloss over: in order to change, a key aspect is learning to *interpret things differently.* In the messy middle of personal alchemy, that shift often requires us to go against every fibre of our (usual) being, depending on the automatic programmed thinking-feeling response that's flooding us in the moment, depending on the circumstance.
It's no small undertaking, though that being said, *change is always possible.*

Our brain always wants to predict the probability of future outcomes based on the evidence provided from past events. In order to change, we must focus primarily on possibility-on what we can create in the future moving forward-versus our tendency to always look back to past "proof". 💡

Thank you very much for your content, it's so pacific, calm yet so important. One thing that helps me a lot to bring my unconscious to the light of knowledge it to freely journal asking 'why' and write down whatever comes to mind, do an analysis and compare if what I think reflects on material reality ( such as how people respond to me or what are the consequences of my acts ), keeping in mind a positive action - emotional process and I'm not always wrong about what I think of myself, but helps me to be more flexible and understand where I need more attention, such as insecurities . Helps me a lot !

I’ve been really struggling with my self image for years, mostly due to bullying and an abusive relationship. I struggle with PTSD and depression, and I’m neurodivergent. I hadn’t realised until a few months ago that I really don’t like myself. This video was so needed thank you! Im going to try harder to be the person I want to be, and not just the victim of everything that has happened to me, because I can be so much more than that!

I love that you use an actual whiteboard, but also edit the video to remove the whiteboard things that just take up extra time like drawing complex things, erasing things, realizing you accidentally used the wrong marker that one time and having to scrub over it with a real whiteboard marker and then erase that a couple times to get the marks off, and making silly jokes about your drawing skills to fill the time while drawing is happening...
So basically - it's like school but more engaging :)
Every stroke you actually show is either making a point or serving as a transition into a new part of what you're talking about! And because it's a whiteboard and not an animation, it's easier to not get distracted thinking about how the animation might have been made or how it could have been done better. Keeps the focus on the topic. (Had to write this up for that same purpose xD Now back to watching!)

One thing that I noticed about NLP is that it does not work directly with inner children psyche parts (see IFS) which hold the belief systems that are of the past and are now limited and dysfunctional. Without shadow work NLP can be used to repress those belief systems without liberating the stuck energy that is still stored in those limiting beliefs. What I take from this video is that NLP and shadow work need to go hand in hand. Thank you for this gem of a video!

Every situation has no value on its own. When a loved one dies, someone insults you, someone gives you a present or whatever. All these situations are like a stone dropping onto another stone. No value, just molecules moving around. YOU, who perceives the situation, create the emotion in your head. YOU give it a value, YOU create the responding emotion. When someone dies, that is not sad. It makes you feel sad. When you play a game, the game is not fun. You experience fun while playing it. And not archieving something you worked for isn't disappointing and doesn't mean you were too lazy. You interpret the situation in a certain way, so that you conclude that you were too lazy and that disappoints you. Emotions are ALWAYS a representation of reality that is also heavily biased based on your personality, past, believes, etc. DO NOT BELIEVE THAT ANYTHING YOU FEEL IS THE ACTUAL REALITY
Almost right. You need to live a little more and see why the death of a loved one is sad no matter how much clinical stoicism or nihilism is involved.
How one carries the involuntary, natural and unavoidable grief is what matters.
@@jenmdawg it's good that you say this, because, even though we create the emotion in our brain, that does absolutely not mean that you have full control over them. Realizing that emotions come from our brain only helps to disconnect from a situation, but of course, depending on the situation, sometimes you cannot just disconnect and throw away the emotion. I would personally say that I am mentally prepared for a death of a loved one, but due to lack of experience, I, of course, cannot be sure there. But what I want to say is, I honestly don't really know ehat can help a person, who is suffering under the loss of someone. Sadness in that case is also hardwired in our brains to some degree, so I guess, to some extend, you cannot do anything and have to 'endure' it (when the pain doesn't fade, then there is a reason for that that can be found and solved). So what I want to say is, the emotion is still being created inside our brain, a situation itself is just a situation that everyone perceives differently. But that doesn't mean that you can just say "the emotion comes from my brain so I just turn it off" or something. Depending on the exact problem, it can be incredibly much more difficult

You have no idea who I am or why I watch your videos, but I have been watching for a long time. As a former psych major (studied psyche for years and always felt like “but yeah, I’m not interested [well, not exactly true] in dealing with fucked up people, I’m interested in the greater scope of humanity and knowing why they follow the patterns they do) I have been nothing short of impressed with the knack you have for distilling basic, but crucial, concepts into something consumable by the masses. Kudos to you! I was hit with a heavy blow at 6am whilst at work, from an unknowing colleague. They asked me about someone who is a friend of mine but they asked in the past tense. I’d been “off-island” for 4 days and focused on the person I was visiting, so had no idea that my friend had taken their own life whilst I was away. Fucking gutted. Had to wait my 10 hour shift to go home and begin to sort my shit out and your video popped up and I thought, yeah, fuck it, I like this dude (sorry, California girl; only recently been brought to my attention that I refer to lots of PNW folks as ‘dude’ hahaha) and although this vid didn’t have much to do with the grief I am navigating, it still brought me comfort and, honestly, awe at the breadth and depth of the human experience that you consistently cover in your videos. As a woman who is days away (Nov 5 😭) from her 51st birthday, you make me long for the wisdom I would have benefitted from years ago, in spite of the fact that I started out in psychology! I’m sorry this was so rambling, but I am dealing with some raw fuckin’ grief but wanted to give you some feedback since I watch (listen, really) to your content regularly. The working of sub concious mind is the science of success n failure.
I would add that the language of the subconscious is feelings. Our conscious mind translates this into thoughts. Practice and rehearse the feelings that support the thoughts that will create the results. Feelings first.

I'm positively surprised that most of your audience is male. That is quite reassuring because most dudes desperately need to work on changing and reprogramming themselves. This is coming from a male mediation teacher, who held lessons and workshops to people of many cultures and backgrounds, but "unfortunately" mostly women.

There's this best friend that I had growing up in a foreign country for 17 years and for some reason I had to leave after high school and go back to my country. Anyways. 15 years later, he came to visit me in my homeland and I was so nervous and clumsy the whole time he was there and he pointed it out which hurt my feelings. I realized the reason I was acting this way is that I was afraid he wouldn't like the person I've become because I don't like her. So I guess believing something about yourself makes it true to others as well. I want so much to change the image I have for myself in my mind.

I just want to say that the fear of f.e. a job interview is not always based on past experiences, based on the personality or anything else like that. I was very afraid of a job interview even though I had literally not a single reason. I would take every outcome as it is, there was not a single scenario I could come up with that would make me feel bad during or after the interview. That's where I realized that my fear is literally the same like my fear from spiders. I know that both my parents are very afraid of such things (job interviews, calls and such stuff) and I think epigenetics played it's role and I inherited that from them. It is a fear that fully disappeared after the second job interview, so, I just want to say, sometimes you are just born with a fear that you can only fight (but absolutely most of the time the reason lies within you)
