I put them on mine with HI MASS bridge... Quarter Poundrs give the power that Fender had in 60's and 70's ... I played a 72' jazz and the output level was almost twice as much ... so you don't have to ask your amp to work as hard
I bought my 98 MiM Precision new, and took it straight to the shop to get the 'Basslines' named QP pickup and a Badass II bridge (I also changed the white plastic knobs to chrome ones). It's been my precious thing ever since. :)
Awesome!!! I filed the guard a tad because the pups were a little big and guard would hang up when pressing down. Throw a mirrored guard and Steve Harris would be proud!!!!
Thanks for the content and thank you for those measurements and the split pickup height idea. It's gonna help me a lot I have an old blacktop MIM which is essentially a jazz bass with 2 precision pick ups.
I finally get the height adjustment for the pick-ups and how to work with the split coil. Should be the same for a Jazz too. My Geddy Lee Jazz has been around since 2006 and teenage me never adjusted the neck and it's so temperamental. Anyway rambling on. I do love J and P basses.
Thank you for taking your time with us to explain things to us. What is your honest opinion on those specific pickups, what there really that much of a difference? I think those Semour Duncan models have some sort of humbucking component to them that the stock Fender ones don't have.
I always found those Seymour Duncan SPB pickups awful, at least not to my taste at all on a Fender P. The Fender Custom Shop 62 P-bass pickups are way better. But okay, I know some guys prefer the modern tone on a P bass, more sound, more grint, more bass, more attack, especially on Fender MIM modern P basses.
Great video! Perfectly done--no hype, just great info. Where did you get the truss rod tools? Do you make & sell them? I'm interested. Thanks again, liked & subscribed! @@ManotickGuitarTech
Some dude on another bass channel had a pbass and was yaking about mods and I commented that he should put in some quarter pounds. His response was that they were too aggressive. I said wtf?
Thanks for the video. One question, is it ok to install shorter strings on a long scale bass? The right size gauge goes an inch over the nut and then the string starts to go thiner. I installed it, it plays ok, but later noticed that I could have bought long scale strings ... could I have any issues along the way?
As long as the full string is in the nut and not the tapered part, you should be fine... but next time buy long scale strings. I hope you have subscribed to my channel?
Wouldn't bother SDs are probably no better than the ones already on the bass. I have an Area pro PJ bass and swapped the pickups for SD quarter pounders, no difference in quality just a tiny bit louder.
can i invert the plastic with logo in the bridge jazz sjb3 ? because if i put the cap with the wires for control plate the logo is invert ... But both protection caps sjb neck and bridge was inverted in original box...
This was the exact bass, colour and upgrade I did to my bass in high school. Real nice.
when it comes to P-Bass, ive tried all of the pickups, and the Quarter Pounder is the best P-Bass pickup ever.
@@cliffords2315 I do like them as well

Sounds great!
I have a bass exactly like this one, Made in Mexico. Great sounding, playing bass.
Thank you four effort, even a beginner like I am learned enough for being able to swap pups, appreciated!

i didnt think i would watch this whole thing, but here we are at the end of the video. entertaining!
Thanks! I hope you have subbed to my channel?
thanks for sharing, I learned more by watching you do it than from several other very chatty videos :)
Glad you enjoyed the video
I have the same bass but with a maple fretboard and the same pickups and use those exact strings! spooky!

I'm going to order a Peterson just like yours. Good ol Sweetwater!
I really like mine - on the bench or when I am jamming

They are much better than the stock Fender pickups used in MIM Precisions
I just put some 62 custom shop pups into a the same MIM bass.
I bet those would sound great! Thanks for watching and I hope you have subscribed to my channel.
Did this! My bass sounds like the Fender P
looks like the pole pieces on the Seymore Duncan are larger than Fender's
@@samstinkeringaround8961 yes they are
@@ManotickGuitarTech Just dropped off my bass to have some installed.

Good, instructive video with no nonsense. I like it! Are your tools “homemade”?
Sam, I do make my string and pickup gauges as well as any other hand tool or jig I need... I enjoy the "making process

How important is it to install copper tape for shielding? Thanks
You can use Copper or Aluminum tape - both work. Just make sure that the adhesive backing is conductive as well. Thanks for watching!

I agree that modern pickups in MIM Fenders are pretty darn good - the SD's are usually more consistently made and better quality over the long haul
@@ManotickGuitarTech The quality and condition of the pots and capacitor also greatly affect the tone
@@dontall71 So true... pretty easy to switch them out to try different combinations on a P bass

inverted= logo "seymour duncan" inverted if bass is on suport
The pickup covers should come off and you place them where you want.
Does it matter in what position the pickup with "Seymour Duncan" written on the pick cover goes, top or bottom ?
Usually on the bottom
@@ManotickGuitarTech ... Thank you. If its on the top, does it change the tone / sound ?
@@naimkirkibrahimrawtismhori1780 It might - install it both ways and see if you hear a difference.
@14:08 what if there's a Humm? What should I be checking?
Check your ground wire
use flatwound strings and yer golden.......
Yep the best thing to do to an MIM bass is get rid of the stock pickups they’re cheap nasty things
Easy and relatively inexpensive upgrade
P bass of Corse.😊
Between 5-64 and 6-64 is almost impossible to achieve. Its too small.
Use either 5 or 6 /64ths...it is up to you.
