Octave Mandolin (Mando Guitar?) build Part 2.
This guitar was found on the side of the road in the garbage - my friend picked it up and gave it to me to see what I could do with it. I think I have decided to turn it into an Octave Mandolin / Mando Guitar... crazy, right? I was inspired but some beautiful Octave mandolins made by Northfield instruments. It has some issues with the headstock, but other than that, it is in very good shape. Let me know in the comments what you think. Stay tuned for more videos to come in the series.

Changing a 3-Way switch on a ES-339 Guitar

Norman B18 Acoustic Guitar - A Bridge Too Far gone...?
Well. Isn’t That. Special ❤
These cobain jaguars are Extremely in accurate to Kurt’s actual jaguar the pickups are way off its overall kinda disappointing
I recently purchased a couple of PRS CE 24's and wondered if those locking tuners you just installed here will fit them?? Anything to get a bit more tuning stability and accuracy ! Thanks :)
Most likely - they will say in the tuner's spec sheet.
@@ManotickGuitarTech Would be nice, also a fan of those brass posts and the "lock as they turn " design.
A lot of talk and not much work going on here
Lol... watch the next few videos
You’re an absolute legend mate. I feel like an absolute idiot for not thinking about the credit card stacks. Thank you!
Lol
I've never bought a new guitar yet that didn't need a setup!
They are very rare if they do not.
If I had 30 minutes
I'm a parts hoarder, I have plastic peanut butter jars full of parts lol
Those are the best containers!!
nothing played nicer than a well setup PRS Core, or Private Stock guitar... That's an SE, not bad but it's not a true PRS in my view.
Chickenbacher
You should be locked up just for buying this. You are a waste of space.
ok I'm in!!!
Bridge screws, pickup ring screws, super gloss finish, binding too white, that's just first quick glance. Buddy of mine brought one too me once n I would';t work on it. Still won;t work on them. People need to have some ethics, it's stolen property, simple. They are wrong plain n simple.Change the headstock shape then it's just whether or not you want a Chinese guitar, at least it's legal.
Nice tutorial, once the neck relief is correct I prefer to bend the high E up a full tone around the 14/15th fret to see that it rings clear without fretting out and that sets the action.
good trick!
You got my attention, excellent idea. I love watching masters outside the box. It gives me insight into thought processes.
To be honest I would do the nut after neck relief by putting a cable at the third fret. Using the Capo, I can isolate other factors that affect the nut
The nut should always be the last thing adjusted, so that is why you do it in the order shown. If you file the nut too low before the string height or intonation, you might not be able to get the desired action without string buzzing.
@@ManotickGuitarTech I disagree. I dial the nut to 4/1000 using a nut action gauge and it should not buzz at the proper action, with Capo on of course. The nut should be adjusted without the influence of action and intonation
@@guitarto1272 There are several ways of arriving at the same result, as long as it works for you, that's great.
Garbage product that doesn't work. Don't waste money.
Interesting take - I have used them for several months now and I find they work well.
Apparently it became necessary to cut off parts of the body of the instrument in order to compensate for the added weight of the "gold" foil..... not to mention the weight of the Krylon or Rustoleum spray paint.😉
Only strange thing is the String Butler creates more of an angle with the strings...... but is idea that it is a round post so less friction..... does post swivel??
it is more about the angle of the strings going thru the nut that causes tuning issues... or so they say.
Your the best -- God-Bless 🎸👆
Thanks... jeez
Mando String Length? Would you order custom guitar strings?
I ordered Octave Mandolin strings from D'addario
Go for it. Looks like a great project. Any instrument saved ia a win!
It's a dreadknot guitar. Not worth fixing!!!!!!
That's a great idea, I have an old one I'll watch and learn then do mind .
Could you re-cut the headstock at the break… clean it up and glue it with the proper glue? By the way, enjoying your videos very much 👍👍
We'll see how it goes once I start working on it.
Sounds like a great idea - didn't even know converting it was an option!
The best set-up guide on UA-cam. Simple, methodical and easy to follow. I just did my first Les Paul with your help and it turned out pretty darn good. Thank you!
I am glad that was helpful! I hope you have subbed to my channel too?
@@ManotickGuitarTech Yes I did! Some UA-cam luthiers have a strident voice but yours is calming. Very pleasant to hear when one is in the middle of a challenging task.
To check intonation properly the guitar must not be lying flat but in the upright playing position.
You can check it either way as long as you don't the same way each time.
Definitely worth bringing back to life.
If i am not mistaken i thought taylor powers guitars were set up with tusk material. I have a namn show 12 frett nade of lutz spruce and acacia blackwood, and a urban ash builders addition . They are good guitars, the ,the builders addition is solid as a rock and eady to play, but i like my eastman walnut red spruce slope shoulders better. The taylors hardly ever get any play time, and its time for them to be sold. The taylor flsme top slope shoulder is a very appealing guitar sonically,a basic slope shoulder.
I’m curious about the final cost of the fake guitar (i.e., purchase price, upgraded parts, luthier labor, etc.). The final cost of the fake guitar can be as much as the cost of the real Gibson yet the fake guitar has absolutely zero resale’s value while the real Gibson has great resale’s value.
Resale is not good for a Chibson but considering the initial cost if about $500, $500 in parts and $500 (at most) foe service work...$1500 is a good deal. A real Gibson is twice that amount at least.
@@ManotickGuitarTech I can’t understand why people spent $1500 for a fake guitar. You can get a real Gibson; a used LP standard should be within $1500-$1800.
@@hughnguyen1772 a used Les Paul for $1500-1800 would be quite the deal in Canada
Id rather have a Floyd
Hi, would you mind sharing the settings you used on the neck plate? I'm struggling with this using the p2
here is what I used: IR; 100% power; 150mm/s; 1x Pass; 240 lines per cm; Bi-directional... run a test first to see if it works for your material.
@@ManotickGuitarTech thanks a lot mate, it went great 👍
@@stephensimpson9670 glad that worked out!
What a nice guitar!
I appreciate the time these save me when setting string and pickup heights. Saves my older eyes from peering at tiny incremental markings on my rules. Clear explanation and demo here, too.
Thanks, Ron - glad they are working out for you!
Can you remove them bridge saddles and put on vegatrem ? More info please
You probably can - just have to make sure it is a model for 2 posts at the front and not 6 screws
@@ManotickGuitarTech it's not 2 posts but 2 screws each side that go into 6 of the 4 screw holes. I am not sure if I understand what you mean.
My son use Dunlop on his guitars, I use Schaller. Both works fine. Just remember to check that they sit tight once in a while and you're good to go.
Good advice!
Thankyou! Very useful
I have a set(got them when they first came out 2nd batch lol) and I love them I really like the new look with the name on them very nice Great Vid as always Have a Great Day!!!😎✌
Thanks!
Some bushings in the tuner holes could be a temporary measure until better ones are found but I think the holes were drilled for the vintage style tuners with the four screws and there may not be enough room for the mounting plate.
I don't need them at all to set a guitar or a bass guitar .
I have 3 lower end Taylors and they all came in perfect. They are the MIM Taylor's but they are excellent quality.
Hi, just a thought .... why not have the lazer etched size visible when the gauge is lying flat
I find it more useful to see the number when you have it in your hand and using it.
Very helpful, thanks!
I had Shallers before. Too bulky but more importantly, noisy. Clanging everytime the strap moves. 😂
I have a set. Can confirm these are super helpful and easy to use.
Question if you don't mind. You say to set all strings on the Strat at 4/64". Wouldn't that not follow the radius of the fingerboard? Just curious and appreciate your time. I'll be ordering some of these soon!!! Keep the great videos coming, I'm learning so much.
It follows the fingerboard radius exactly because you are measuring the distance between the underside of the string and the fret.
Thank you for the detailed Instructional Video. Placed an order a couple of days ago, can't wait to get them!
Absolutely ! I have some rules from Stewmac . So , I have absolutely no need for these height gauges.
Bought one, awesome! Thanx🎸
I bought some 2.0s a few weeks ago. Love them! Hate squinting!
