- This tasty Squier Precision bass guitar is pretty nice - natural dark wood body, male neck and fretboard and some owner upgrades: EMG P bass pickups and a hipshot bridge. Changing the the strings to Rotosounds and doing a setup today as well as checking for some fret buzz. This bass plays as good as it looks! Enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

I own American Mexican Chinese and Indonesian Fenders. I'm blown away at the quality of the imports. Set-up and quality of the wood is the big difference. I still think buying American will not disappoint.
Fender, in general, is a good choice
With this Hipshot Bridge, you can adjust the width of the strings by moving the brass saddle left and right. I go the same bridge as an upgrade on my Squier affinity PJ Bass and it’s a wonderful bridge with great sound and sustain !

I have Hipshots on my 4 and 5 string Squires and even on my Geddy Lee Jazz Bass. That is how much I like them.

I'd check neck relief and string height in playing position, not with the instrument laying on its own weight.
It's made from NATO wood a Asian hardwood that comes from different trees it's also referred to as Eastern Mahogany but Squire calls that finish Walnut

That's a great looking Squier. The owners' mods have made it pretty choice. I may do the same to my Affinity PB
It sure is - I like the hipshot bridge; personally I would use Seymour Duncan Quarter pounders; and I would change the tuning machines to hipshots as well. I hope you have subscribed to my channel?
5/64 at the 17th fret and that's every string the same!! Just like the gentleman said!!gives the bass a great playing feell..this is how i set my bass,s....nice bass🎸🎸🤙🤙
5/64ths works well for me and I will go to 6/64ths on some basses... it depends on the feel.
5/64 every string? Any reason the middle two aren’t a bit higher to follow the radius? Curious!

Not a fan of the Badass bridges or high mass for the most part except for the demure Gotoh and only because it has tracks for the saddle height screws so the saddles don't wander side to side. And it nearly all fits under the bridge cover.
The two things I do do on the CVs regardless is swap the threaded zinc saddles for AllParts threaded nickel ones, and replace a plastic nut with bone or Tusq. Just those two things will put a lot of energy back into the strings between witness points.
It kinda reminds me of the old short neck fender Mustang bass'

That was a while ago, but I believe the client had just put new strings on.
String spacing on the A string is wrong. The hipshot bridge allows lateral movement of the string and the A is too close to the E. Also check neck relief and string height in playing position.
Just ran into your videos, thank you for sharing! Question, I also work on bass guitars and I'm wondering why you didn't address the high fret? Sometimes a light tap can take care of a raised fret or more aggressively have to lightly file it.
Okay so I bought an American pro 2 p-bass dark knight , when I got it from the store it was so called set up. They missed the bridge all together it was an honest mistake all wonky. Anyway it has a high mass bridge I really like it but the strings are on the deck at 5/64ths. I bought a .5 shim from our good old brothers stewmac and some La Bella deep talking gold flats. Question is is the neck pocket on the 63 profile the same as a regular p-bass ? It's a 5 bolt neck compared to a 4 bolt. anyway will the .5 shim be enough or too much just want to get the bridge more adjustable off the deck. It's a nice bridge if you are playing 6 or 7/64ths off the deck. About to attempt my set up never had this one apart.
When I use that bass on my Fender Rumble 25, I get a lot of hissing noise, especially when I turn up the tone knob. This was sometimes not the case with other basses. what can I do? Thanks
Hmm smoky, sort'a tastes like molasses. 6:22 The string spacing looked a bit wider between two middle strings near the bridge in the video but maybe it looks that way because of the radius.
Yes it’s not an optical illusion they are definitely not the same width !
Thanks for the info. Why do you not replace all the strings one by one to keep the tension on the neck ? Removing all the strings will release the neck tension unnecessary.
I need to remove the strings to clean the frets and fretboard- if I were leaving the strings off for more than an hour or so, then I would adjust the truss rod so the neck was flat. Otherwise, you don't need to remove them one by one.
I have same bass. G string buzz happens at 9,10,11 and gone at 12
That usually means you need to adjust your neck relief
i just went to take my squier PJ bass to my local shop for a setup and I have a question. If I wanted to try a different brand of strings later down the line would it effect the set up I plan to stick with the same gauge
As long as you stay with the some gauge, your setup should not be affected by a different brand
How's that squier pbass? Read good and bad things about it.. considering buying one after having to sell all my fenders and gibsons for economic reasons...

Has no one mentioned the E string is out of alignment? Way to close to the A string and it doesn't sit nicely over the pick up.
That amount of misalignment does not affect the tone at all - probably because the pickups were changed to EMG's which might be a slightly different size.
My neck was straightened by a "String Tech" at a local music shop, but the string height wasn't set up right, it was too high. Once I set it up to the right height, I have "Fret Buzz" at the 12th fret. How do I correct that?
your neck might be too straight and needs to be loosened a bit to provide clearance approx. .010-.012" at the 7th fret. String height on these guitars should be about 4/64ths at the 12thf ret as a reference. If you still have buzz, you might have a high fret that needs to be spot levelled.
I was looking at this bass , its made of NATO wood. I started looking at a different one. I looked NATO wood up bad for guitars and basses 😮
NATO wood is fine for solid body electric guitars or basses...not a good tone wood for acoustic guitars.

True, but because you can adjust the bridge saddles it is precise enough for an initial placement.
Sorry but I never got it why anybody wants to change a set of strings on a new bass/guitar, just because it is not their taste in sound. Why wanna waste a new set of good strings on a bass or a guitar. Eventually you need to change them after a while anyway.
Well, on many cheaper models the factory fitted ones will not be great, so they may not feel or sound very good or indeed last for very long, so you might as well replace them with strings that you like better.
The round wound strings that came with my Squier Affinity PJ bass, for example, felt poor and were very noisy, and I prefer the tone of flat wounds anyway so I swapped them out right away. Also, flat wounds can last for many years - I believe that Pino Palladino has a set of 30 year old strings on his bass !
On the other hand, the round wound strings that came with a more expensive jazz bass I have sound and feel great, so I won't be changing them until they're worn out.
A brown Bass looks like $#!+!!!😂😂😂
