    I would get a twin axle plant trailer m8. Make sure to check trailer weight ratings, and the gross weight rating of what you want to load onto it.

    • @HDGardenCare
      @HDGardenCare  9 місяців тому

      Yeah, mate. I know, but to be completely honest, can you see that trailer being over 300 kilos? I don't think it would be fine to pull a ton. I've done it many times on that trailer up to this point. Also, twin-axle trailers add to the unloaded weight, but my van can still only legally tow a ton, so I'd be taking it off my net towable weight! Does that make sense? Something bigger could be counterproductive when trying to put any real weight on it.

    • @MrZimmaframe
      @MrZimmaframe 9 місяців тому

      8x4 braked Indespension trailer, 364kg unladen weight, 963kg max payload weight m8. I know m8, I said it if you ever changed van, I should specified that. Most small vans are usually only ever rated for 150kg tongue weight so not ideal for towing bigger stuff.
      We have a few trailers, and twin axle plant trailers are the way to go, if you ever get a bigger van or truck. Diggers, ton bags of sand, logs and all sorts if/once your business gets bigger.

    Any excuse to play on a digger. Some would say put your back into it. 😂 .You can make many plants from splitting up a phormium that size, they ain't cheap to buy. And that tall cordyline will be worth replanting or potting up ASAP, as you say flog it for a few quid. Or save it for another garden project. I hate to see good plants getting wasted. Plants go on a trailer roots first branches at the back ,so they don't get wind damaged. Wise not to take the digger, Good luck with the MOT. ATB👍

    • @HDGardenCare
      @HDGardenCare  10 місяців тому +1

      The cordyline is with its new owner now. I did not know the Phantoms were worth a few quid. I would have cut some small sections off and potted them up to sell on!
      Thank you for the comment and the great bit of advice

    • @mycolliesandme268
      @mycolliesandme268 10 місяців тому +1

      @@HDGardenCare yeah m8 phormium plants to buy in the garden centers or nurseries are expensive for just small size 2;3 ltr pot £ 20 each. So a big mature one like that £ 100 plus. The new owner of the cordyline had a good bargain then. When you get to know your plants you can add them into your landscaping ideas and make a few quid more. If that side of the gardening and landscaping interests you of course . Or perhaps just the hard landscaping, and garden maintenance. However you evolve on your way ATB

      Ahaha, you're not wrong. If it's on it's gone springs to mind, load them heavy drive them steady. It will only be 200, 300.kg overweight, a lorrie drivers lunch box 🤣. The van can tow 1 ton braked, and the trailer is rated to 1300kg.
      I've towed a ford focus st with it that my maye blew up 1600kg, it pulled it, no problem.
      On a serious note, thank you for the concern. However, you got to do what you got to do especially when your starting out and you have to use what you got.

    • @JKMPLANTHIRE
      @JKMPLANTHIRE 10 місяців тому +7

      I'd rather pay someone to move it then the police to give you 6 points and fine for being overweight just isnt worth it in my eyes. Considering that could cost your business thousands in insurance if you get caught and even a driving ban just ain't worth doing.

    • @HDGardenCare
      @HDGardenCare  10 місяців тому

      You're definitely not wrong there. Mate, and I see your point of view for sure. A bigger van is definitely on the cards for me this year. I just struggle to get rid of that Partner because it's a little weapon. It will need a few 100 quid for its mot. But it's been really good to me.

    • @paulf2529
      @paulf2529 10 місяців тому

      @HDGardenCare With towing the broken down focus the difference is it is a rolling load and not acting on your van suspension. With a trailer you have the trailer nose weight pushing down on your rear suspension.

    Nice video pal. Would be careful with your weights and towing capacity. That van wont be able to tow probably anything over 900kg, so you would definitely be overweight. Not sure what the payload of your trailer will be but it wont be much! Just bear that in mind. Your license is your lively-hood and not to be gambled with! Keep up the good work

    • @HDGardenCare
      @HDGardenCare  10 місяців тому

      The Van can legally tow a ton. And the trailer is rated for 1300kg. Yes, I'm overweight, but only a few hundred kg. The phrases load them heavy drive them steady springs to mind. If she's on she's gone! What a serious note. Thank you for your concern, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do now, especially when you're starting with nothing. I'm sure you know what the struggle is likes yourself. It's a challenge at the start when you have nothing.

    • @Ben_Morrisonn
      @Ben_Morrisonn 10 місяців тому

      @@HDGardenCare Mate I started with a push bike and trailer, I know exactly how it is. You're doing well and investing in your business. The trailer will be a great asset for you, but maybe just leave the heavier stuff for the plant company to deliver and collect, until you have a setup which can comfortably carry weight. It really isn't worth compromising your license for. And I am sure you know the struggles with van insurance at your age! I understand the frustrations that limitations bring, it doesn't feel that long ago that I was in your position, but keep hustling and you'll be surprised how quickly things progress when you put in the work. Wishing you all the best in your journey and I'll be sure to be watching 👌

      @@HDGardenCare I suspected so, you utilised it will but I actually do think that cordyline with 2 men 30 mins tops trimming the sides back to a sq metre then one clearing one using a bar as v shallow root as showed by digger when you ripped it out 30 mins tops and it would have been out, so I’d say 1.5/2 man hours, you said in your video 4 man hours according to your times but a lot of that was the making access and then using boards on the lawn, then the 2 trees in the again roots weren’t going to be huge on those as shown and the palm same again, I’d use this for future pricing as round here a digger like that is 150-200 with vat so you could say to the customer I should hire a digger for x amount but I won’t but here’s my price and just offer the price a tiny bit less but not hire the digger and your quids in…..You did utilise it will but did seem slightly over kill, it’s great the customer agreed and paid for the digger but if you d quoted £20 less and bagged the £150 for the digger it wouldn’t have taken any longer and you d have an extra £150 towards that MOT 😜

    Your over limit on that, towing capacity on your van is 1.3 ton so the machine at one ton and the trailer at around 400kg you are overweight.
    Not worth getting pulled and impounded and the risk of fucking up the van brakes and suspension.
    If you want to start towing a machine then time to upgrade personally I would sudgest a double cab pickup eg isuzu d max or toyota hilux or at the minimum a rwd swb transit or similar with a minimum of 125 hp.
