Every song on Stories from the Steeples is absolutely gorgeous. Some were written by Mary's son, Danny. Mary's voice is as beautiful as ever and her song interpretive skills are still unmatched. We love her in America! Beautifully done, Mary. Thank you.
Mary is a fantastic singer and Eric Bogle is a great songwriter. The other two songs were And the band played Walzing Matilda & Green fields of France.
They told all the fine young men, That when this war is over, There will be peace, And the peace will last forever. In Flanders Fields, At Lone Pine and Bersheeba, For king and country, For honour and duty, The young men fought and cursed and wept and died. They told all the fine young men, Ah, when this war is over, In your country's grateful heart We will cherish you forever. At Tobruk and Alamein, At Bhuna and Kokoda, In a world mad with war, Like their fathers before, The young men fought and cursed and wept and died. For many of those fine young men All the wars are over, They've found peace, It's the peace that lasts forever. When the call comes again, They will not answer, They're just forgotten bones, Lying far from their homes, Forgotten as the cause for which they died. When the call comes again, They will not answer, They're just forgotten bones, Lying far from their homes, Ah, young men, can you see now why they lied.

Beautifully sung by Mary.....written by Scottish Eric Bogle. One of three songs written about the great loss to British soldiers in the Great War.

This is beautiful Mary
And when the call comes again, they'll not answer .....EXACTLY! They've knocked us all off :(
Heart-rending, absolutely heart-rending.
@ainmcara I agree with you about Mary's voice. I think she was at her peak in the nineties, but her new album is lovely.

Aha! You're right- that is her name! Thanks, I will check if she sang this one.
Was this song ever sung by Delores McKee, or a similar name?
there is a singer called Delores Keane but I'm not sure if she sang this song. She does sing some really beautiful songs, though.
transmissionends64 Dolores keane sings this song with De Dannan on the album “Ballroom.” A lovely version...also on UA-cam.
