    The first time I heard this song I was holding my 14 month old granddaughter. Suddenly uncontrollable tears rolled down my cheeks. She frowned then lifted her little fingers and wiped the tears.

    Still performing and in fine voice. Attended his concert last week in the beautiful Cardrona Valley in New Zealand. Sad not to see John Munro after 40 years as a fan but Pete and Emma were brilliant in support, and it was truly a night to remember. Please come back soon!

    Mary Black is, and always has been amazing. Mary's daughter, Roisin O'Reilly is singing backup vocals. Eric Bogle & John Munro wrote some, perhaps all. of the best anti war songs ever written. Sadly John Munro is no longer with us but as far as I know, Eric Bogle is still performing with as much passion as ever.

    Keep returning to listen to this- genuine emotions expressed about the human condition .. we are condemned to repeat the mistakes of previous generations.. but must continue to strive not to do so.. the trick is to keep the faith .. travel hopefully it is better than arriving.

      The psychopaths who rule over us, Fleece us and slaughter us like sheep, causing untold misery and pain yet they never loose a moments sleep. All wars are Bankers Wars, they loan money to both sides with cross guarantees all debts will be paid, enslaving future generations to pay of the debts. We get our Sons and Fathers killed or broken and our Daughters raped, our children grandchildren and even great grandchildren get to pay off the bill for their entire lives. They can only do this to us because we let them, we just can't believe they knew exactly what they were doing, when will we never learn, when will we ever learn.

    Mary sings many beautiful songs, but this one is so profound and shows the stupidity of War.

      Some wars are worth fighting and those who fight those wars on our behalf give us the freedom to offer an opinion and a democratic vote and the choice to follow our own religion -- or not. I am grateful to those who fought for our freedoms and I will always remember them with love and gratitude.

    Ongelooflijk dat VPRO iemand die totaal niet (meer) kan zingen helemaal naar hier haalt. Tragisch dat iemand die vals zingt als een kraai zelf ook niet kritischer is. Tenenkrommend.

    there are a lot of people who profit from war. that is , why there will never be peace.you should all know by now. foolish song
    for kids

    • @Tiberiotertio
      @Tiberiotertio 8 років тому +2

      +Herbert Marzinek For kids? If wars where fought only by the politians who instigate them, we would have a lot less. Only the naive say this is for kids as it is the common people who are sent to fight the wars stupid politians started. Common people pay with their lives for wars, the rich profit.

    • @anthonyobrien4396

      +Herbert Marzinek. What a disingenuous comment. The lyrics clearly make an informed statement regarding both the seduction and futility of war. Yet without the previous generations sacrifice, perhaps it would be Herr Herbert Marzinek.
