  • The Ramparts perform 'All The Fine Young Men' in The Sugar Club, Dublin to mark the centenary of World War 1 ending. This was also the first song The Ramparts ever performed together 3 years ago for RTE's Reflecting The Rising. A beautiful song with a powerful message.
The Ramparts are an all male a cappella group from Dublin, Ireland. Armed with their trusty dickie bows, braces and a pitch-pipe, they love to sing Pop, Traditional Irish, Folk, Barbershop, and a touch of Classical. With a setlist that includes everything from Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ to Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘Scarborough Fair’ - there’s really something in it for everyone.

I cried all the way through it. There is no better tribute to these young men than to be sung to by other young men in remembrance.
I am now an old man, and my grandfather's generation fought this war. As a child I met a few veterans, but never grasped what it meant until much too late.

Young men, the fuel of war, sent by old men who would never put their own lives at risk.

War comes only to the chosen.
However, in this case, those old men fought in World War One.

At last, it is said. Our grateful hearts to the ones who were lost and a sharp word to those who did and would allow war to happen. I will never understand how it goes so far. I have my son and husband and somehow, my father made it through. That others could say the same. Stunningly beautiful harmony and singing from the heart. World, take note. All could harmonize. Follow these fine, young, wise men.

This song was written by Eric Bogle, a Scottish-born Australian singer-songwriter.

They told all the fine young men,
That when the war is over,
    There will be peace,
And the peace will last forever.
    In Flanders Fields,
    At Lone Pine and Bersheeba,
    For king and country,
    For honour and duty,
Those young men fought and cursed and wept and died.
They told all the fine young men,
That when the war is over,
    In your country's grateful heart
    We will cherish you forever.
    At Tobruk and Alamein,
    At Bhuna and Kokoda,
    Like their fathers before,
In a world mad with war,
Those young men fought and cursed and wept and died.
For many of those fine young men
    All the wars are over,
    They have found peace,
It's the peace that lasts forever.
    When the call comes again,
    They will not answer,
    They're just forgotten bones,
    Lying far from their homes,
As forgotten as the cause for which they died.
Ah, young men, can't you see now how they lied
    -- Eric Bogle
