Iv listened to this song at least 100 times. I am still in tears listening as Irish man. This is a song that embodies reality for my poor ancestors who died in their droves.
The first deaths were discovered in a cottage in which a family of 9 were huddled together most dead...the potato fsiled, but the other crops were given up as rent to often absent landlords
It's not just a song, it is a history, it is a tragedy, Every time I hear it I have to stop and think about what happened, about what wasn't done to help Beautiful, thank you.

I'm french and my english is very bad... I've 14 years old and y love this song, i love your voice 😍 In English class we studied Ireland, and especially Skibereen and I loved this story that makes sense ... So thank you for singing it so well
@@Kitiwake at least something is studied, that's not so sad. Life is full of mysteries, up to us to cheer it up. You can come to France to see what's left of "our" culture, you'll be happy to be back in Ireland :)
I'm descended from Famine refugees on my father's side - my Farrell ancestors were from Longford, but family legend has it that my other ancestors were from somewhere in Cork. I cannot listen to this song without wondering if my great-great-great grandfather might have come from Skibbereen - if this song is describing some of the things he saw before he was thrown onto a coffin ship and dropped off in a new land that had no love for him. God keep you, Thomas Conboy - may the happiness of my life serve as your revenge for Skibbereen. I will keep you in my memory until the day I die.

A beautiful and moving story involving so many terrible happenings to so many good Irishmen and Women. I praise God for the Irish in my blood, whatever it may be. Yourself and John Horgan both bring emotion. Thank you
Don't usually comment but this is such a moving performance. Hairs standing on end, tears in eyes stuff. This man Don Stiffe is a 21st century soul singer. Superb. Ottis Reading, Sam Cooke, Bill Withers...Don Stiffe ...sounds like a good fit to me!

It’s moving cause it’s true. As Don says at the start there were literally thousands buried in an unmarked grave. It’s a beautiful moving version by Don
This song gives a great context to explore the great famine in Ireland. The mass migration of the Irish from rural areas to urban areas changed the future of the Irish-Americans. The untold story of the British role in the Irish famine is very rarely explored in American history.

My grandfather was at a wedding reception in the Orange Hall (my grandmother came from "the other side") was asked to go up to sing. He sang Skibereen in that Orange Hall and was known as Skib from that day onwards.

Just come back from spending 5 nights in Skibbereen on holiday. British people need to be as ashamed of what happened in Ireland during the Famine as Germans should be ashamed of the Holocaust.
