A great song by a great band!! Helix is a very underrated band!! What a shame these guys dont get the respect that they deserve!! This is how you write a song!! An amazing ballad that we can relate to!!
Aren’t we talking about helix? Aren’t we the support they need! Lol..jk but his song is one of the best ballads from the hair metal genre! I was 14/15 when this jam came out..hated it cause I was deep into black sabbath and hearing early Metallica…today! This song Screams to me In ways I can’t escape!
I Broke a thing called a cassette to this band by over playing it!..... loud in my car and singing this song at the top of my lungs! Damn ...can still relate to the words today! Ha!! :)
Amazing 80s band from Kitchener and London Ontario. I have met and talked with Brian many times at his concerts. Fantastic guy! One of my favourite songs from their catalogue!!
I saw that same tour in albuquerque new mexico. I actually ran into the band after the concert!!!! They were all so cool!! They took time to sign autographs for me and my buddy. We were only 16 years old. Man those were the best of times!!

I am here again to hear this great 80's "power ballad". Sadly, that era is LONG GONE. Most of today's music has NO SOUL. Hey, IF I am wrong, and somebody "out there" knows about any METAL or HARD ROCK music that is like what 80's metal was like, I would LOVE to hear it. I do LOVE the band "Ghost" from Sweden, BUT they are NOT for the average person. Really, I do have many bands that I do like still. MY tastes aren't for everybody, IRON MAIDEN, OZZY (who despite being ill, is still making NEW songs!!) and HOLE, Black Sabbath, Ghost, TnT, Red Hot Chili peppers, SOD, Nirvana, PLUS so many other bands. Anyways, this song had been a popular song back then. And, despite it being and "old song", I still hear it in my head, and that makes me every now and then want want to come here and listen to it.
The #1 Canadian Party Metal band that scored a worldwide sensational hit in 1983 with the all-time Party Anthem "Rock You" comes out with this surprising-as-hell power ballad in 1985. Even more amazing, this song HAS NO GUITAR SOLO...unheard-of in 1985! In recording this song, Helix created one of the most memorable and greatest power ballads. What an amazing, powerful song it still is! And that amazing ending: "I...AM...YOUR...slave..." still sends chills up my spine. Brilliant!!!!
subliminalsorceress im 21 too although I dont have most of their discography. I have learned this song on guitar though, one of my favourite songs ever.
This song pops up on our playlist at my work practically every day and I never knew what it was. I spent weeks trying to figure it out and I've finally found it today! YAY! All I could tell was that it was 80's "metal" and had a Canadian sound to it. I don't know why, but Canadian rock in the 80's kind of has a distinctive sound that I can't describe, but it's there lol. I make no sense, I'm just happy I know what this song is now!
What kind of workplace plays Helix everyday??? I want to work there! LOL! I still listen to a lot of Canadian 80's rock because that's what I grew up with back in the day, and if i didn't know a particular song the only way I would be able to identify it as being Canadian was by recognizing the sound of the vocals associated with the band. Nowadays you can just use SoundHound app on your phone to identity most songs.
@@OVI-Wan-Kenobi-8 hey brother wished I was from Canada back in the 80s there was a lot of good bands love kick axe I would like to hear some more of the bands from then
No way could i erase this song from my playlists last 35ish years! Sad still so many never heard this! Laugh at 80s all they want- We know we had the best music with meaning & 💜❣️🤘
Canadian artists ROCK!!! Rush, Triumph, Tragically Hip, 54-40, The Tea Party, Gowan, Helix, Blue Rodeo, I Mother Earth, Finger Eleven, Matthew Good, Our Lady Peace, and so many others....Canada Rocks!!! We here in the great USA love Canada!!!
The power ballad that nobody ever expected to come from Helix came to us all in 1985. This song doesn't even have a guitar solo. Anyone who says that Helix weren't a serious Rock & Roll band needs to listen to this song. Helix were a fucking great band, and didn't just do "Rock You" and "Heavy Metal Love.". BTW, "Wild In The Streets" is a great song, too. 👍
and Young and wreckless,Animal house,Six strings, nine lives,The kids are all shaking(Poison copied it?),etc, and anything you want, dream on, and gimme gimme loving are a very good covers
Always loved seeing these guys in a bar, The whole band had a great energy. Brian would be all over the place, on the stage, dance floor, or on your table. Always a great show!
When I was a young teen I saw Helix a couple times live. Always loved them. After they opened for Y&T (razors edge year) I wrote a letter telling how they blew them away. So surprised when I received a letter back from Daryl the bass player on cool Helix letterhead. That meant so much. Figures that D was the newest member of the band so he had to answer fan mail, so I assume. It was the coolest thing a band could do for a young fan
I remember this one MTV back in 1985 off of the Long Way To Heaven album. Man this one was my favorite for 2 or 3 weeks. Great memories and they're still out there from what I here.
LMAO, I was in middle school when this song came out. I heard it once, thought it was Dokken, bought Dokken's 'Tooth & Nail' hoping to find it, and fell in love with Dokken but could never find this song. I couldn't even find someone who knew about it. Eventually, I just decided that it must have been some weird dream or that I misheard the lyrics. Fast forward 26 years and I remember this song that I must have weirdly imagined but decide to type 'Deep Cuts the Knife' into Google and BAM. I had never even heard more than a couple of verses and some guitar back in the day, but the complete song was just as awesome as I had always imagined it would be.
Love this song... Take me back a long ways. Helix was so underrated. No Rest for the Wicked was a classic album. (I know this song was not on that album, just saying)
Helix is THE MOST UNDERRATED rock band there is ❗it is a shame for Helix is a pretty good band . this song and a babe in a dance floor....in the 80's ...🤷💕
Another awesome hard rocking Canadian band from Kitchener and London Ontario.....I miss them. I think I saw them in just about every small venue in southern ontario when they were big. Keep on rocking !!
Seen them open up for Dio. They were both really solid live. CNE grandstand I think it was 85ish. Last in line tour. Helix nailed this song live. Awesome talent.
@@ginterka381996 It is kinda funny how it is so cheesy and NOT polished, BUT, to us that saw it as kids, the original is best. NOT EVERYTHING needs to be done all over again for the young people. It IS funny as hell to see how well, "funny" it is, well, CHEESY.
FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG ! BRINGS BACK THE GOOD OLE DAYS, WHEN LIFE WAS SIMPLE AND MUSIC ACTUALLY MADE YOU FEEL ALIVE !
Amen!
Yeah... I love the 80s too. I was young and the sun was shining all the time. At least how I remember it.
@@N0rth3rnP1k3 Everything was better back then. The time we're living in now doesn't hold a candle to the 80's tbh its just depressing anymore.

I use to play this song over and over and over again in the 80s. Now it's the year 2022, and I still love it.

A true 80's rock-n-roll power ballad.
