To everyone out there who may be struggling with this, my message is rather short: don't worry.
I have been struggling with ectopic heartbeats for the whole summer, and it even came to a point where I would be apprehensive of going outside, knowing that my heart would produce that awful sensation. In October, we decided to adopt a cat, which we did. Funnily enough, ever since that cat to my life, all the issues that I was struggling with disappeared. I no longer have those sensations and even if I do, they go unnoticed like they usually do. The point is that if you are a healthy fit person, you should quit googling your symptoms, as it can later lead to panic attacks. For what it's worth, I had the same sensations four years ago when I was first admitted to the university. I told my parents that I was experiencing irregular heart beats, so they took me to a cardiologist who assured me that there was nothing to worry about and that it was all due to stress that I was getting from my studies.
All you have got to do now is to try to relax.

I'm a nursing student and I've learned about ectopic heart beats, but I never realized I had one until recently.
My heart will skip a beat about every 20 to 60 seconds. It will then make a stronger beat, and then feel like it is trying to catch up with itself.
I will periodically be able to feel my heart thud in my chest. I've never had any problems with it and I never really sat down to listen to my heart with a stethescope Very weird and surreal being able to hear something I've learned about in school happen to myself.

I was surprised at how common they are and how little a problem they present to most people. When you are continuously losing blood from your body, you heart has to work overtime to get enough blood to the rest of your body. This can cause heart trouble, especially if it goes untreated.

Thank you for these videos, they have been a great help. My ectopic beats started (or I was aware of them) at the beginning of September this year; I had two personal problems back then, I must say I am usually quite anxious and I have obsessive thinking. At first, the ectopic beats were continuous, maybe 10 or more per minute and lasted for hours, maybe half a day. A little later it became somewhat constant, but perhaps one ectopic beat every 8 or 9 regular beats. About a month ago the problem stabilized and it was only noticeable before I went to bed, while I was reading and maybe after a meal. But since yesterday it has become something of 12, even 24 hours again, I have even notice I have just ectopic beats instead or normal ones! (I forgot to mention that they are the kind of the "lost beat"), in a continuous way. This was cut off with the help of a quarter of Valium. Anyway, maybe I will see a specialist, the problem is one of great discomfort and is an engine of a vicious circle of distress. I mention the Valium because in my case I'm positive that my ectopics are related to anxiety, even the simple fact of thinking about something that worries me, and now with the coronavirus there are too many things to worry about, the media does a great job! that single thought triggers the process. I binge weekends and that also serves to keep the ectopics away until Sunday, they simply disappear. Of course I tried to cut off the binge, and I did it for about a month, but that did not make any good, perhaps I should be more persistent in the future. To all those who suffer from this, my sympathy and best wishes for you to overcome this curse.

I've had PVC's for over 20 years, getting progressively worse as I got older (63 now). Two weeks ago I gave up eating any kind of sugar/honey/sweeteners and my PVC's have improved probably 75%, almost immediately. I had tried magnesium- didn't help at all. But giving up sugar seems to be making a big difference. Might be worth giving that a try if you are frustrated with PVC's as I was.

I’m 38 Ive been suffering from this for as long as I can remember. I’m also B- blood type, no idea if there is a correlation, I remember my pediatrician telling my grandmother that I had a heart murmur when I was a child and that it could go away with age, but it never did. They do seem to happen more when I’m at rest. Its what prompted me to search this up. I usually feel this flutter or thump in the left side of my throat. It does seem to be getting worse , they don’t happen everyday but I can tell they are worse at certain times in my life, especially if I’m stressed or sick. I lose my breath quite quickly even if I hardly exert myself. I do have a feeling that my lifestyle could be making things worse. And I want to start exercising more if it won’t worsen things. I really feel fortunate to have found your videos. I was laying in bed everything was pretty much fine then that happens and it’s so startling, this time it was a bit worse than it usually is and seemed to linger a bit longer. Its just so frightening. Again, thank you so much for sharing.

Ectopic beats are horrible for sure, especially when your heart is thumping a bit fast. Only those of us that have had it know the awful feeling they produce. They do create a lot of anxiousness which makes the problem worse. Mine started happening when I was about in my early 30s. Had it for about 30 years now and I’m still around! Sometimes I find if I eat certain foods my heart speeds up and then they start. So all I can say is, don’t let your heart scare you

Thank you for this information... I've had this problem for about 5-6 years now. I am currently 30 years old, I don't recall having this issue when i was young, but in my early to mid 20's, I started having Ectopic episodes once in a while.. I was very obese and heavy an thought maybe being over weight was the cause, so I decided to do something about it. To date, I exercise 4-5x a week, and it did help... somewhat. But I still have it, it still happens once it a while... averaging 5x or less a day, lasting no longer than a minute... then returning back to normal. But today was the most I've had Ectopics in a ever... I lost count but I've had it for nearly 6-7hrs randomly every minute to once every 5 minutes. I don't drink coffee, or caffeine, as I ruled those out being bad for your heart. I grabbed a stethoscope, as I was always curious to what happens with my heart as it happens but never could catch it... Just now as I listen, when it happens I hear my heart stop, then i get large pounds slowly *thump, thump* sometimes 3 thumps in a row, then goes back to normal... during every thump, Id feel week, light headed.. as if I'm out of breath. I knew i had some abnormal heart beat for sometime, but never knew what it was actually called... I should have seen a Doctor sooner, but I always brushed it off due to it going away... an thought I was just too stressed. Now that i found this video, it has helped me a lot, I'm going to see a cardiologist.

I usually have them at rest and it causes my anxiety to go nuts. I’ve had an echo stress test all is normal and a holter all is normal. Neither result made them any less startling to have. I cried watching this, I am so glad for you and this information. I felt as though I wasn’t being heard or they were blaming anxiety. I’ve been taking magnesium and that seems to help as well. I am 47 years old, 1.74m x 68kg, I don't smoke, I don't drink alcohol, I eat quite healthy and I usually bike 150Km / week, 10Km / week running.
I consulted a cardiologist because a month ago "a sensation of strange movement on the side of the heart" appeared and that even at times it seems to be touching the esophagus. This happens ONLY in moments of low pulsations, that is to say when one is relaxed ... before going to sleep ... watching a movie on the couch. The cardiologist very confidently diagnosed "typical symptoms of extrasystoles."
He sent me to do an EKG and ECO cardiac color Doppler, Complete blood count / Hepatogram / protein-gram, B12, Iron, cholesterol, etc, which were normal.
The Dr ruled that "a healthy heart" is not a cause for concern and that I try not to give it any importance, unless they are extremely frequent, which is not my case today.
I wonder: Do I need to do more study, or am I sticking with my gymnastics pace despite these sporadic "weird" beats that occur at rest?
They don't happen every day, sometimes 2 ... 3 appear. days in a row and then 2 ... 3. days are not.
I do not have Neither tiredness, nor dizziness, nor fatigue. Chest pain, I had only a couple of days in the beginning but it was very mild and I attribute it to the fear/uncertainty/anxiety produced by this sensation never before perceived in my body.
    Best regards.

I developed ectopic beats 4 years ago, missing perhaps one beat per 12 beats. Then 8 months ago I suffered my first SVT. (Diagnosed as AVNRT). The ectopic beats also increased in frequency. I went on to experience a total of 34 SVT’s over the subsequent months. (I even recorded one SVT in the act of resolving back to sinus rhythm on my Apple6 watch!). But by carefully noting what bodily actions appeared to ward off threatened SVT’s, I developed a daily breathing protocol. Over the next few months the incidence of both SVT’s and ectopic beats reduced, and my resting pulse (which had been quite low all my life) rose by 20%. I have had no ectopics and no SVT’s for the last 12 weeks. (My cardiologist seems confused, I am very happy!).

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this video. It's given me reassurance that I'm OK. Unlike the information I've been struggling to get out of my GP, 24 hour ecg, results back doc said in was getting beats every 1 min and I'd will take 7months to see a specialist, only another 6 months to go haha. Anyway thanks again.

So incredibly helpful. Had ectopic beats all my life. Never with exercise yet nobody has asked that question. I probably should have mentioned it.

You break down information so well. You're patients are very lucky to have you. I do have a question about ectopic heart beats and sleep apnea. Is there any correlation? I suffer from sleep apnea, and recently had another sleep study because I feel like my CPAP is not working for me anymore. Plus... I have been trying to loose weight and I am down 40 lbs. I would assume symptoms of my sleep apnea would improve with weight loss. I often wake up from what feels like a thud in my chest which I am thinking is an ectopic heartbeat. But it's hard to tell, maybe I stopped breathing from the apnea. I dunno. My recent sleep study evidently went well and they said CPAP seems to work well with me. I feel like I wasn't having those symptoms during the sleep study... of course 🙄. I am scared I have a CHF or perhaps my heart is on it's way to developing CHF. I'm in my early 40s and feel like the cardiologists I've seen just tell me it's probably stress and sleep apnea. I dunno. Thoughts?

this video and comment section put me at ease ya all, another thing, if u feel like this, if ur vision is clear and ur able to think clearly during that moment, ur fine and let it pass...in actual stuff u tend to loose vision or not even get a moment to think

Hey doc, I have found your videos quite helpful. I have had as many as 20 or 30,000 ectopic beats in a single day and while I have controlled it largely through diet I want to mention that wimhof has a video here on UA-cam with three rounds of breathing exercises and so far I have never seen it fail that somewhere between the second and third round my heartbeat will stabilize and ectopic heartbeats will stop. I just wanted to share this with your viewers

Hello doctor. Thanks for your crystal clear explanation. My aunt got diagnosed to have ectopics. Ventricular bigemini. Our cardiologist. Didn't say anything except wrote a betablocker and sent us home. We were worried😣 your video was encouraging as well as orientation was so good. She has a EF of 75 percent. Age 59. Echo cardiogram showed grade one diastolic dysfunction. 24 hour ECG 20 average missed beats. Ventricular bigemini. Planned to do stress test. She has sign of syncope after 9 pm IST. Post working hours. Has sign of fatigue. Palpitations. Breathless. Sigh breaths.. Sleep less more than 5 years. Do share your opinion.

Dear doctor. (PLEASEEEEE Answer back )
I am a 19 year old girl and I have had terrible heart burn and acid reflux for as long as I can possibly remember. I dont drink, nor have I ever smoked. Not much of a coffee fan and neither am I overweight. Like, about two years ago, I had a panic attack over my breakup. ( which I am long over and have had my second break up too lol) but during that time I was really scared.I had all my tests done. My ECG was (Abnormal) but the doctor said it was a printing mistake and that my values were normal and said that ECG's sometimes have a printing mistake. I WAS SCARED and he just smiled at me and told me I was perfectly okay! He then ordered me a 24 hour holter monitor, Thyroid tests, & ECHO test just to bring my mind at ease because I was shit scared during that time and often felt tightness in my chest. Finally I got my reports and ALL of them were normal.Every single one. I WAS relieved and happy but since like the last 11 months.I often get a tickling feeling in my esophagus.Near my sternal notch with heartburn and I feel my pulse and its ALWAYS regular.ALWAYS. Alot of times I get like a sudden split second thud or twitch in my esophagus or my chest. Sometimes feels like a bubble bursting in my lower esophagus. And it always happens when my heartburn is at its worst of after eating. I'm half Indian and the spicy food we eat might be the reason for my heartburn but this weird split second twitch feelin....makes me panic because I've never experiened it before. When i get this feeling I never feel any pain nor do I feel anything near my heart area, I dont feel dizzy or sweaty either. Its like a blink of an eye. So short. I cant even tell where this is comming from but it feels so startling and sometimes scary. I thought it might be something else, maybe an esophagus spasm due to my acid burning my throat or something? Maybe its some allergy or defiency? :( Ive been looking up online and I am sooooooooooo scared. Like, I am only 19. I dont Wanna die.... :( Pleaseeeeeeee tell me what to do? I dont even hang out with my friends nor am I able to enjoy anything I used to because I always feel scared. Should I go back to my doctor? I am even scared to go to sleep these days! I am infact panicking so bad as i type this. Pleaseeeee get back to me. I am so lost.
