Thank you Dr Gupta, this is very informative. For years I left my high blood pressure unattended and I think it has damaged or weakened my left ventricular. I get fluid build-up in my legs and now find it hard to breathe even when I'm just walking. I never smoked, don't drink much alcohol and exercised but STRESS has got me. I just hope and pray its not to late to improve my heart.

LVH -> muscle get stiffer -> not enough relaxation -> not enough blood supply -> kidney sense this -> activation of renin-angiotensin aldosterone system -> salt and water retention -> symptoms of congestion and fluid in the lung (SOB, fatigue, orthopnea, PND )

My husband has LVH, it could be inherited from his father but he also has high blood pressure. He is so breathless doing every day things. He had an angiogram with a possible stent. After tests we have been told he needs a triple heart bypass, it has taken nearly two years to get to this stage. He is so breathless and can’t walk far. He has type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and is very much overweight. What will his breathing be like after his heart bypass? Will this help LVH?

I've been diagnosed with LVH, almost a year ago. With an MRI. Not because I had issues, more a regular check up.
But recently (and actually that started years ago) I feel some chest pains with exercise (bicycle riding), and even with normal activities. I am 70 now. I don't have high blood pressure, never had.
I did serious bike racing from age 28 to 42. In the 80s I had very good VO2max figures, and a rest heart rate of 40-45.
I believe LVH can be caused by regular big physical efforts, like in bike racing and training. But it's not mentioned in the video.
    Any opinions would be appreciated.

I am 41 years old and lost 80lbs and didn't understand. I did a lot of strength training and wore compression wear which I believed was the cause. Also, I neglected my high blood pressure. Depends on the cause
      if it's hypertension, then....
Workout, eat healthy, lose weight, drop down to yoru regular BMI, then the heart will revert to normal. Im sure many obese people have left ventricular hypertrophy.....
being obese will cause many complications. even the heart valves can get damaged..... so stay in shape......
but if it's like a birth defect, like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, you need surgery or alcohol ablation to cut that bulge out of the heart septum.....

I was diagnosed in hosptial with LVH yesterday. Left ventricle muscle wall is 15 mm. Normal is up to 13 mm. EF is 70% which is good. Everything else is ok in the heart.
I will see my doctor next week so that we start with Ramipril or something alike. Funny thing is, my blood pressure at home is 130/80, so not dangerous at all. I am asking myself how I got this horrible 15 mm with this kind of normal blood pressure.

Thanks for this . I’m a runner of 40 years standing now aged 65 . At 60 I noticed a slowing of my normal running times over various distances ( 6 miles , 13 miles ) . As the heart works hard during running and as I have run for 40 years is it possible ( the heart being a muscle that grows with resistance ) to get exercised induced LVH and are the consequences of exercise induced LVH the same as for “ the diseased “ heart . Will the exercise induced LVH return to normal size if all exercise is stopped for say 2 years . My blood pressure is 114/ 70 at 5 minutes after running and I have chest pain but more and more feel chest palpations ..

Do you have any news on this & the cause? Any new diagnoses? I’m 23, had severe anxiety/panic attacks for the past 5 yrs that gave me episodes of high heart rate on a daily basis. Recently I’ve started having palpitations and forceful heartbeat even without the panic attacks. My ECG shows possible LVH, conduction & repolarization abnormalities. I’m guessing the LVH is from all the stress from racing heart.

I had an ECG done a few weeks at my regular doctor. It showed up as abnormal. I didn't see the doctor. I saw the NP, so she advised me to see a cardiologist. Went to the cardiologist and they performed another one. I showed him the print out of the first one that I had done and he seemed shocked that a doctor would tell me to see a specialist based on that result.
He did say the problem with the result was it's a machine giving you the diagnosis and not a doctor. It's perfectly normal for someone to have an ECG such as this. Nothing to be concerned about. Those were his exact words. I still seemed unsure so he said okay, we'll do an echo. I go in a week later to get that done. While it's being performed, I ask the tech how does it look? Of course, that was like asking the wall because they're not going to say anything.
So a few days later, on my way to get blood work done, he calls. Your echo looks fine, everything looks good. So I'm at ease, but the office has one of those patient portals where you can see summaries of whatever tests they run and it's LVH? Wtf.
I call back to ask what is going on because I'm getting conflicting info. His assistant says oh, the patient portal is just there for basic info and doesn't offer anything extensive or detailed, but she puts on hold to make sure. She said oh it's really mild and there's really nothing to worry about.
Should I call back and ask for a copy of the echo so another doctor can see it because that doesn't make any sense.

High John, I recently had an echo also . Like you I got my echo results before I talked with the cardiologist through the online portal. It said I have moderate LVH. When the doctor finally called with my results I was expecting some bad news. He told me that the heart looks good and I have no restrictions in activity. I asked him about the LVH and he said that is nothing to worry about. Like you I am confused as everything online makes it seem very serious. My cardiologist wasn’t concerned about the valves and ignored it and said my milf LVH could be from over training. But after researching I’ve found that it can cause it. Is this correct? Also my ECG is normal and my blood pressure is normal. She is now doing a calcium score test.

I had identical twins born by emergency c section because twin b has left ventricular non compressed cardiomyopathy. From the day he was born he's had to see a cardiologist to monitor his condition. I was told by his cardiologist that there is nothing I can do to cure or slow down his condition and that he will most likely need to have a heart transplant by the age of 12 years old. My son will be 2 in April. He acts like a healthy toddler and is a happy young camper but I just don't feel right about the information provided by his cardiologist. As a mother it's a lot to take in. I was told he will most likely go through arrhythmias, strokes, and heart attacks as he gets older. My other twin doesn't have a heart condition. Our doctors have us doing a series of additional genetic testing to see what the cause of it could be yet they also tell me there's no treatment. I told them I'm pretty sure it's because my other twin had a velamentous umbilical cord and because they shared a placenta. Even though twin to twin transfusion was not the case I do believe my twin b was working harder to pump blood to his brother who was much smaller than he was. My twin with lvnc also had a cystic hygroma from the top of his head to the end his spinal cord and after being told he has a 10 percent chance of surviving and that I should abort i decided to leave it in god's hands. A week later when I was at 15weeks of gestation his cystic hygroma which was bigger than his head completely vanished. I assumed this could be part of the reason why he has lvnc also. I had a genetic test done for this as well where my doctor took DNA from the placenta to test for various diseases and chromosome defects. Everything came out normal. I guess I'm just looking for some advice or hope. I want so badly for my baby boy to live a long healthy life. It's hard. I want to be able to be there for all my children but when I'm told there's nothing I can do it just feels like I've been shot through the heart.
