I live in a Middle Eastern country where the weather is very hot and dry in summer and this year also mostly dry in winter. We desperately need rain. I look forward to these videos. They make me feel calm when I am stressed. As a person who loves her own company and peace and calm, I know I would love polar nights. I live in Canada and we have short days in the winter. It is pitch black here at 4:30 pm here now and the sun rises late on the morning. I have been leaning into the dark and loving it. I have so many little fairy light areas in my house now. Wish I could send some pictures of my Svalbard inspired decor! Our word in the family for this winter has definitely been "cosy".

I'm in a suburb of LA County not too far from the Eaton Fire, and am so far, very lucky as my home and neighborhood are still untouched (other than a few broken windows at home and lots of downed trees in the streets around me.) OMG yes!! Once we reach the autumn solstice I get happier and happier because nights start getting a little shorter. Then after daylight savings ends I get even more excited for the nights! Until Dec21st after that it doesn't feel the same anymore 😞 I'm so glad someone else feels the same way

After listening and watching about world affairs and so on over the last 12 months,what an absolute breath of fresh air your vlogs are. They exude such a calm,tranquil vibe that seems like a world away from real life that it's so hard to believe that this is YOUR real life. It's absolutely stunning where you live and you talk about it with such love and passion that the viewer cant help but want to be there. I hate the cold, I hate the dark, so I would never have believed I'm saying this,but in just a week ,you have made me want to visit your beautiful island home so much,that I discussed it with my children just today(they are adults), and am now saving to visit. It will be a short visit for the first time but its definitely something I am desperate to do. I have learned to not only tolerate the winter but LOVE the winter and love the long dark days. I used to suffer from seasonal depression and I can say last winter was the first year in a very long time that I didn’t suffer with it. This year I worked hard to make my home as cozy as possible. I typically live in southern Indiana near Kentucky in the USA. But this year we have been staying with our mothers in Iowa. On the winter solistice it got dark by 4 pm and the sun wasnt up until 8 am. Only 8 hours of sunlight. Lots of cold, and wind. I feel ot in my soul. LOL. From the summer solistice of 9:30 pm sunsets and 5 am sunrises..... we got so much farm work done. Berries picked. Kayaking. Gardening. Walks. Off road driving. 8 hr cold light to 16.5 hours of warm summer sun. I definately appreciate both. The darkness and cold brings a needed rest. The morning coffees are so cozy. I watch your videos then. Have a wonderful sunny vacation!!
You can see the planets alignment so well and the northern lights!! Wooooo! I think for me, just looking into the darkness of the night sky with the full moon and planets tonight here is the best mix of loving life, wonderment and the deepest joy all rolled into pure heart energy 🌎💜🐾💕

So excited to be coming to visit Svalbard in February, intentionally before the sun rises above the horizon for the first time. I think I could get into Polar Night. Love coffee, candles, cooking, cozy blankets and reading. I live in the U.S. but have gotten into Hygge the past couple of winters. The winter here in Indiana has been much colder than normal. Been running in the single digits to the mid-20’s. We’ve had 12” of snow in the last ten days which is more than we’d normally get all winter. Love it when you show the Northern Lights in your videos. Have a great time in Portugal.

I don't know how you can be in darkness for so long. I definitely would be suffering from SAD if I lived there. I think it takes a very special type of person to tolerate that.
Read How To Winter. Cecilia is featured in the book. You’d be surprised at how well you could tolerate it, you’re just talking yourself out of it. Research shows SAD is less prevalent than previously thought. It’s all about mindset.
I am 73 years old so life on Svalbard is not a possibility for me but… if I was younger( much 🤣🤣) I would love to live there everything about it appeals to me. Winter is my favorite season. Polar night is so beautiful and every season there is peaceful. I am living vicariously through you.

I used to struggle with the early sunsets, then I decided to monitor the sunrise and sunset on a daily basis. Now I've been noticing the sunsets happening later, and it's been helpful for me.

Loved today’s video! I love the Polar night so much. I’ve always loved Winter but through you I think I’ve learned to appreciate it more. I cozied up my home with lights and made it happy. I’ve also given myself permission to do my own version of hibernation. Making soup and stew and basically comfort food to warm us up from the inside. I love how excited you get over things I’m sure you’ve experienced many many times. It’s that awe and excitement I’ve tried to bring into my own way of looking at the darkness. My favorite thing about long winter nights is looking at the night sky! Cold air holds less water so it makes it easier to see the stars and the early sunsets mean I can see them when walking home from work. I live in a city so can't see too many but the planets are very bright this month! Towards the end of next month all of the planets will be in one line across the sky and 5 of them will be visible with the naked eye!
Sunday with Cecilia and Grim. Grim's fur reminds me of my sister's dog, Zoey. She's got husky in her. So she get's clumps that my sister plucks out. My sister uses the shedding comb we used for our horses to brush Zoey and it really works well getting the loose fur off. The birds around our house love it because they have soft stuff to line their nests with. As for the polar nights I could see myself visiting for awhile and really enjoying the clear nights with all the starts and the nothern lights but it's not something I'd want to live in and I wouldn't want the sun shining all the time either. I guess it's what you get used to. I do hope you enjoy your vacation. Thanks for sharing so much with us.

I really enjoyed this footage today. It was quiet and so soothing! Even though I do not have a dark season in the same way you do, our days in Kentucky are shorter this time of year. I am developing a greater appreciation for my dark January season. I used to dread January. Now, I see that every season has something special to offer.

I grew up with the Northern Lights. We used to make them “jump”. If you are on a hard surface, like a road, stamp your feet as loud as you can. Watch them react. The bottom will move up so they look like dancing. You can also “hoot” or clap very loudly in a pattern. They should show that cadence. I was in a city so they were right overhead, which may matter. I’d love to see if it works for you!

Sittng here in my cosy living room with little lamps, fairy lights and candles with my fleecy blankets and cushions. Bacuse being a long time suscriber I have learnt from Ceclia that this is a good way to embrace the long dark winter nights. I have even learnt to love that going to and from work or other activites in the dark can be magical when you notice the lights of the house and shops, and you can look up and see the moon and stars. I am definitely looking forward to the spring but I have learnt to appreciate what dark winters have to offer.

I used to suffer from seasonal depression and I can say last winter was the first year in a very long time that I didn’t suffer with it. This year I worked hard to make my home as cozy as possible. I typically live in southern Indiana near Kentucky in the USA. But this year we have been staying with our mothers in Iowa. On the winter solistice it got dark by 4 pm and the sun wasnt up until 8 am. Only 8 hours of sunlight. Lots of cold, and wind. I feel ot in my soul. LOL. From the summer solistice of 9:30 pm sunsets and 5 am sunrises..... we got so much farm work done. Berries picked. Kayaking. Gardening. Walks. Off road driving. 8 hr cold light to 16.5 hours of warm summer sun. I definately appreciate both. The darkness and cold brings a needed rest. The morning coffees are so cozy. I watch your videos then. Have a wonderful sunny vacation!!

I think I could get into Polar Night. Love coffee, candles, cooking, cozy blankets and reading. I live in the U.S. but have gotten into Hygge the past couple of winters. The winter here in Indiana has been much colder than normal. Been running in the single digits to the mid-20’s. We’ve had 12” of snow in the last ten days which is more than we’d normally get all winter. Love it when you show the Northern Lights in your videos. Have a great time in Portugal.

I don't know how you can be in darkness for so long. I definitely would be suffering from SAD if I lived there. I think it takes a very special type of person to tolerate that.
Read How To Winter. Cecilia is featured in the book. You’d be surprised at how well you could tolerate it, you’re just talking yourself out of it. Research shows SAD is less prevalent than previously thought. It’s all about mindset.

From Massachusetts- I struggle now with sunsets at 4:30-4:45 here w/snow, ice and cold 🥶 I don’t think I could cope with darkness that lasts for months… But you, Cecelia make the polar night seem delightful 😊
Hey I am in MA too. I don’t think I could deal with full dark either. But if I had to choose I would choose polar night over polar day.
I used to struggle with the early sunsets, then I decided to monitor the sunrise and sunset on a daily basis. Now I've been noticing the sunsets happening later, and it's been helpful for me.

It snowed for the first time this year, we got more than usual, 4-5 inches, it was so wonderful! We took a night walk with our dog, it was so bright and quiet outside, I told my husband it's my little piece of Svalbard 😊❤️

Loved today’s video! I love the Polar night so much. I’ve always loved Winter but through you I think I’ve learned to appreciate it more. I cozied up my home with lights and made it happy. I’ve also given myself permission to do my own version of hibernation. Making soup and stew and basically comfort food to warm us up from the inside. I love how excited you get over things I’m sure you’ve experienced many many times. It’s that awe and excitement I’ve tried to bring into my own way of looking at the darkness. Granted it would be way easier if we got northern lights, but I can turn on one of your videos anytime and see them so that helps. Enjoy your vacation!🥰

My favorite thing about long winter nights is looking at the night sky! Cold air holds less water so it makes it easier to see the stars and the early sunsets mean I can see them when walking home from work. I live in a city so can't see too many but the planets are very bright this month! Towards the end of next month all of the planets will be in one line across the sky and 5 of them will be visible with the naked eye!
Sunday with Cecilia and Grim. Grim's fur reminds me of my sister's dog, Zoey. She's got husky in her. So she get's clumps that my sister plucks out. My sister uses the shedding comb we used for our horses to brush Zoey and it really works well getting the loose fur off. The birds around our house love it because they have soft stuff to line their nests with. As for the polar nights I could see myself visiting for awhile and really enjoying the clear nights with all the starts and the nothern lights but it's not something I'd want to live in and I wouldn't want the sun shining all the time either. I guess it's what you get used to. I do hope you enjoy your vacation. Thanks for sharing so much with us.
Good morning. You always make my Sunday the best. I live in Washington state and experience something akin to polar night. I have fought against it for a while as I moved back here in 2019. The darkness allows for rest. I have never looked at it that way. Your vlog helps me so much just find the little things in life to enjoy. Thank you!

I really enjoyed this footage today. It was quiet and so soothing! Even though I do not have a dark season in the same way you do, our days in Kentucky are shorter this time of year. I am developing a greater appreciation for my dark January season. I used to dread January. Now, I see that every season has something special to offer.

The landscape of the glaciers with the Aurora over it was magical and other worldly. There is still so much beauty in the earth- if you look for it! I live in a place where I’ve always had 4 distinct seasons, and I enjoy that. Each season has its good things!

I grew up with the Northern Lights. We used to make them “jump”. If you are on a hard surface, like a road, stamp your feet as loud as you can. Watch them react. The bottom will move up so they look like dancing. You can also “hoot” or clap very loudly in a pattern. They should show that cadence. I was in a city so they were right overhead, which may matter. I’d love to see if it works for you!

Sittng here in my cosy living room with little lamps, fairy lights and candles with my fleecy blankets and cushions. Bacuse being a long time suscriber I have learnt from Ceclia that this is a good way to embrace the long dark winter nights. I have even learnt to love that going to and from work or other activites in the dark can be magical when you notice the lights of the house and shops, and you can look up and see the moon and stars. I am definitely looking forward to the spring but I have learnt to appreciate what dark winters have to offer.
