- It’s certainly easier to make assumptions about people than it is to spend time getting to know someone. We wanted to put assumptions to the test to see what we're missing out on because we're so busy assuming we already "know" a person. Join us as we discover why you should never judge a book by it’s cover in our series, Reverse Assumptions.
We are all conditioned with certain biases. In this experiment, we challenged these biases by asking people to make assumptions about their partner's appearance without ever actually seeing their partner. When they flipped around to finally face each other, they were shocked by how wrong they were.

Some people have assumed i'm kind of a stoner because of my messy and unkept pink hair, my constant tired face and the friends i hang out with :v (i don't even drink alcohol or coffe haha) but it was shoking to see the contrast when it was said by a girl i thought was "innocent" (that she didn't drink or anything) based on the way she looked because the same day i actually found out that she did smoked pot and liked to drink a lot! it is funny to think how people could think the opposite of what we are or do based on the way we look.
Ro mi basically my high school life! I had hair down to my bum and always wore skirts and bracelets so everyone called me a hippie! So in hand, they thought I was a druggie. Truth be told I've only smoked pot 4 times in my life, and have never touched hallucinogens! And those 4 times were not during that phase of my life haha!

I met this 50 something (I'm wildly guessing) fundamentalist Christian lady (but not evangelical, she was a sort of obscure sect). I was reading "God is not great" by Christopher Hitchens I believe, and we started talking about everything, especially her life, she was now a fairly literal believer in the bible but she was a free love type woman in the 70s. I think I was 27 at the time, I really fell for her (as much as you can talking for about 2 hours). She had such real empathy and clear eyes, a really beautiful person. Towards the end of the trip her husband told her to stop bothering me. I can't remember what she looks like in specifics but I do remember how warm her vibe was. Awesome person.

I am a muslim girl and I have a punk friend like him. It is always sad when people assume look, religion, culture or what you want in life affects the friendship/relationship you have with others. In fact, my goth/punk friend is one of my favorite people and I learnt a lot from her :) ..( All the love for you Kimberly )! People should actually go around and talk to people who look different or who they might act judgemental about. I was raised in a very judgemental typical home but I am glad I was always moving so my parent's ideas of normal and acceptable, didn't get embedded in me deep; in fact it also helped my parents to see others in different eyes and gave a chance for a different understanding of good or acceptable to be discussed (now they are not as open minded as me but that's their choice not mine). The fact that I choose different than someone doesn't make me better or worse than this person, or more normal *comparison doesn't apply*. I am a human, you are a human and if you have a good heart, I will love you regardless your religion, sexual orientation, gender, or look. All I want for others to be happy as they are :).

this was awesome! people totally assume i'm a 'bad girl' or 'mean' because i wear black every day, my head is half shaved and i wear dark makeup. I'm totally a homebody, I'm a cat mom, i collect china tea sets, i'm a big art lover, i'm a huge nerd and the queen of bad "dad jokes". i also snort when i laugh...so add 'dorky' to the mix as well.

Years ago, I went to a salon to get my hair done and had my grandmother with me, an old very traditional shy Indian women who wears saris, bindi etc. She was born 1921 (she’s 96yrs now). The woman who did my hair looked a lot like the young guy in the video, cool goth girl in black. After she was done, I went back with an assistant to rinse the color out and shampoo. I walk back and find them laughing and having an animated discussion about body piercings and traveling. My grandma has two traditional diamond nose piercings and the hairdresser has one nose piercing and other various ones. It was very cool to see. You wouldn’t have suspected they had anything in common. :)
