@mullerpotgieter yeah it's all a bunch of bullshit. Honestly I was sad at inquisition and now I'm just depressed at what the IP became. I wanted the story of pushing the darkspawn back, trying to save those tainted by the darkspawn, going into the deep roads to clear them out with the dwarves. Yet now we have nothing that matters.
Probably been said here in comments. DAO origin darkspawn looks like a twisted and legit evil form of what species that're from. Human ones look like they're decaying, as the skin is barely holding together, patchy and broken, with the fangs that if you get too close, they will bite you. And then later take the weapons from your corpse, as well as armour, and make use of it. The dwarven ones look like evil imps, that will jump on your corpse will glee, while tearing off you head and laugh and play football with it. The Ogre actually resembles Qunari's once you've seen their models in DA2, which I feel was the intent for it, to make those two actually resemble one another, because when you had Sten, and knew very little of Qunari how they looked, it made little sense to it. But again, the forms are relatable to one another, and not even going to mention the brood mothers, poor women, always made me feel so sad when you knew how they're made, and what they went through to become what they are. These from Veilguard look like something you'd fight in any modern game, especially in Fortnite, which is such a fcking letdown, and they lost all their horror element, no blood or gore visible, just pale skin, claws and maybe some weird tentacle from their mouth. Whoever was the head of this decision, was not thinking properly on how to honour and continue the amazing work that was made in the previous games
I miss the executions in origins. Killing an ogre for the first and seeing my warden drop the ogre to it’s knees and then jumping onto it to finish off was amazing
It was really during dragon age 2 where the design for darkspawn really just went down hill they went from the corruption of man being brought out to generic fantasy monsters how sad
The darkspawn were maddened and corrupted humanoid races corrupted by SOMETHING, supposedly resident God, that made them so threatening And now they are just a stepping stone in a trans-story about trans characters and their trans feelings. Well, i hope modders come up with a veilguard mod in origins cutting out all the bs
@@mullerpotgieter This. I've modded a few games but this would require me to actually BUY this game and play it first. Do you think I'm actually goin to do that?!?!?
The actual designs aren't that bad, especially in motion. They're very smooth, but that's everything with that art style. I think it's more how they're used. They're treated like generic fantasy zombies. Like, here's a zombie eating a body, there's the big boi zombie that breaks a wall While in Origins, they were organised, used tactics, were seen with distinct leaders, staged ambushes and traps. Some of it could be argued lore wise since in Origins it was a full blight so they had better organisation. But they're supposed to be absolutely terrifying. Unless you're a Warden, something as simple as some of their blood getting in your mouth or eyes, can lead to a slow, agonising death. Fighting even a single darkspawn for a non Warden should be a big oh shit moment In DA2 people die in the opening, and potentially later when you fight darkspawn. Because the Blight is BAD
They should've made it more consistent. Specially the idea that the blight is so dangerous that there is a reason the wardens are necessary to fight it. But instead it has been trivialized, the later two games have had their plot involving incompetence within the wardens and both have the main character "fix" them in some way. But also there's the fact that nobody ever dies when you encounter darkspawn. As if the blight can only affect the story outside of your companions with few exceptions (Bethany/carver). In "the descent" I thought we would see somebody be taken by it but everyone was drenched with darkspawn blood at the end and it meant nothing. Really takes away the immersion aspect to also see their designs made so poorly with each sequel.
Im playing the game and this is a new blight commanded this time by a pair of gods. But It seems they changed the Lore because, the archdemon was actually a corrupted god, if I remember well, the god of beauty, I dont remember the name, but you Discovery that in a document in Awakening. Now the archdemons are just pets bounded to the gods.
I wonder what store all the Darkspawn bought there LED lights from, and did they install the lights themselves, or do they have dedicated LED light installers.

"First day, they come and catch everyone. Second day, they beat us and eat some for meat. Third day, the men are all gnawed on again. Fourth day, we wait and fear for our fate. Fifth day, they return and it's another girl's turn. Sixth day, her screams we hear in our dreams. Seventh day, she grew as in her mouth they spew. Eighth day, we hated as she is vi**ated. Ninth day, she grins and devours her kin. Now she does feast, as she's become the beast. Now you lay and wait, for their screams will haunt you in your dreams." I still have nightmares from this. This is what made me fall in love with the saga (among many other things, of course). I realize we need to let Origins go, I agree, we may never reach this level of quality again, that's okay, but how did we go from that to THIS?
BioWare used to be the trendsetter creating Baldurs Gate, NeverWinter, Mass Effect, all these Iconic games and looks... and now they go from Grim Dark Fantasy to Cartoonish Happy Tree Friends look just like Blizzard did with their WarCraft and Diablo games... going into that WoW style of Cartoon Violence...
Even the darkspawn of DA2 looked better then this. Bioware just seems to dubble down on bad ideas as even back in 2011 they were heavily criticised for making them look goofy.
This hack and slash combat sucks. In Origins even the most trivial fights required you to pause, formulate a strategy and use your team's abilities carefully. Now it's just "let me solo everyone" type of combat.
Yo I have played Dragon Age Origins and Fortnite Save the World (before Battle Royale) and I was damn sure that the footage I just saw was those two game back-to-back like what the actual fuck.
Darkspawn used to be intimidating because of their intelligence and cunning along side their relentless brutality. Dragon Age was a dark fantasy only in DA: Origins
Its not like the old look is a marvel of design or anything but compared to the new one it looks far better in comparison I think if i was to make the new ones i would get rid of that weird orange glow in them, gross up the body a bit more to add to that diseased corpse look, and give them less control of certain things like the jaw as it looks unhinged or give them a more "dry" look to add to that failing body look compared to the more "fresh" mussely look they have now
Whats weird is the statues in game of Ogres look like the old designs and the Antaam look a lot like the DA2 qunari design but instead of replacing them the put helmets on them so you cant see.
Rogues with attack speed bonuses were so bonkers in DA:O, the rapid speed sneak attack animations were so funny. Shank shank shank shank shank shank, and done.
Oh god, they look terrible. Like gods damnit BioWare, you had interesting conceits in veilguard (titans being the source of the blight, Elven gods being cruel and spirits) and ya fucked that up. I still prefer Origins in terms of story (Loghain is a much much better villian than Elder Gone)
In dragon's age Origins the darkspawn origin is that they were people that tried to enter paradise to gain power of gods and their greed ended up destroying it and their own corruption turned them into monsters so them being twisted versions of people make sense like Humans turn into Hurlocks, dwarves into Genlocks, elves into Shriekers and Qunari become ogres and well that only works if a living host is captured and turned into a broodmother by consuming darkspawn flesh
That's the difference between the work of a group of authors with a vision (Origins) and the work of a group of common workers grown up with social media trends and Marvel-like screenplays
No joke, I remember the ogre fight from Origins more vividly than the one from Veilguard. Despite playing Origins a decade and a half ago, and Veilguard was like 3 days ago.
The Darkspawn in Dragon Age Origins were so terrifying, at least first playthrough, they seemed unstoppable, like the Dark in Myth The Fallen Lords, in Veilguard they are just neon monkeys.
I like that the Darkspawn in Origins are more of a horde militia than just run-of-the-mill ghouls. Their numbers and barbaric competence in battle better sells that their an apocalypse level threat in a fantasy setting, whereas the latter looks like something you’d run into during a stroll through the bog.
the thing i loved is you could actually tell what each darkspawn was made from like ogres obviously look like qunari and genlocks are short just like dwarves
Old DA Enemies: **say nothing and lets their intimidating entrance speak for it self** Veilguard Enemies: OOGA-DA-BOOGA-DA! ME SO SCAWY! YOU AFWAID, PUNY HOOMAN!
Man this made me want to hook up the PlayStation 3 and play Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2! The enemies in veilguard just look so... cartoonish. The older Dragon age has a more realistic art style to it.
When i look at the Darkspawn in DAO i think of them as a mistery. They are savage, evil monsters that want to destroy the world and yet they are using weapons, armors, tactics and have a social hierarchy. It brings thoughts that behind this cruelty must be intelligence. And that's brings questions and desire to learn more about them. With Veilguard Darkspawn there isn't antyhing like this, no mistery, nothing though provokative, just nothing. They simply look and behave like a bunch of generic zombies.
I will take to my deathbed that Origins had the best designs for Darkspawn. They are terrifying, and not just fantasy zombies but something that corrupts not just humans but all races. Not only that, but when you encountered Darkspawn in Origins, you weren't some super powerful warrior already capable of taking on the world. Sure, you were strong, but still very much Mortal. If you were a Mage, you were wearing robes. If you were a Warrior, you probably didn't even have enough Strength for your Blood Dragon Armor yet. Comparing making your way up the tower in Origins where you're fighting intelligent monsters that were likely people once to call in reinforcements to save the day, and Veilguard where they're just kinda... there?
Tbh I don’t mind the new designs since I’m mostly biased when it comes to skeleton looking monsters, but even I know that the original designs were much better.
I think a big issue is DAO d spawnbwere clearly LOTR inspired and ibthink over the years they wanted to move away from that. Of course, the DAO design is better

So basically they took every aspect of the franchise that made them great and replaced it with mediocrity.
I will never forget my first time playing the Battle of Ostagar, the first time in the game you see what a blight means.
It was really during dragon age 2 where the design for darkspawn really just went down hill they went from the corruption of man being brought out to generic fantasy monsters how sad
The darkspawn were maddened and corrupted humanoid races corrupted by SOMETHING, supposedly resident God, that made them so threatening
And now they are just a stepping stone in a trans-story about trans characters and their trans feelings.
Well, i hope modders come up with a veilguard mod in origins cutting out all the bs
Mate, this is as wishful as thinking modders could fix starfield. You need people to WANT to put in that effort
@mullerpotgieter i know right, let me lie to myself mate. I know all too well the franchise is dead
The only modding you can do to fix this is to delete veilguard and install DA:O
And now they look like Fortnite.Attempts to create resident evil zombies

This. I've modded a few games but this would require me to actually BUY this game and play it first. Do you think I'm actually goin to do that?!?!?
Holy shit, Veilguard suck more then I could've ever had imagined.
1:06 Wow, that is the weakest "big thing bursts through a wall" sound I've ever heard. Where's the intimidation? Where's the menace?
The actual designs aren't that bad, especially in motion.
They're very smooth, but that's everything with that art style.
I think it's more how they're used.
They're treated like generic fantasy zombies.
Like, here's a zombie eating a body, there's the big boi zombie that breaks a wall
While in Origins, they were organised, used tactics, were seen with distinct leaders, staged ambushes and traps.
Some of it could be argued lore wise since in Origins it was a full blight so they had better organisation.
But they're supposed to be absolutely terrifying.
Unless you're a Warden, something as simple as some of their blood getting in your mouth or eyes, can lead to a slow, agonising death.
Fighting even a single darkspawn for a non Warden should be a big oh shit moment
In DA2 people die in the opening, and potentially later when you fight darkspawn. Because the Blight is BAD
The designs are VERY bad when compared to what they were.
It’s some of the most cartoony animations and design I’ve ever seen. It’s supposed to be dark fantasy. This is like if Pixar made a dragon age game. 😂
I wonder what store all the Darkspawn bought there LED lights from, and did they install the lights themselves, or do they have dedicated LED light installers.
Damn they look almost as goofy as thr Qunari
Is it weird for me to say they look like monkeys? Maybe its their posture or their wide mouths but i just immediately think "monke"
Just gonna say it, I have hated EVERY darkspawn design that came after Origins, I wish they would have just run with what they started with.
DA Origin is a game that was made for gamers, Veilguard is a game made for kids.
They look goofy as hell
Dragon Age: The Veilguard made me install and play Dragon Age Origins again and with some graphic the game still is a blast
Same! I'm actually playing Inquisition rn thanks to BioWoke (I already played DAO)
this whole game looks like a spoof of real dragon age
Dragon age stopped after the first game imo. Everything went downhill after it
Veilguard darkspawn got turned into a generic trash mob enemy from lore perspective and from the way characters react to them. They should be monsters that people fear, not simply get annoyed by. Massive fumbles all around, design, writing, dialogue awful all around
How the shit insane they could think dragon age's 1 darkspawn was a mistake and need to be rebuild... Its beyond insanity... We are so low now, that even dark spawns of DA2 look better =/
mann idk these are bad but da2's were soooo bad too... dragon age 2 darkspawn also had the extra effect of being very disappointing.. the sequel to the beloved origins, and we got discount mortal kombat characters & power rangers as darkspawn???
this game at least didnt have expectations of being a sequel to origins
@H41030v3rki110ny0u I know. But they at least have wear armor and at least behaved like a horde. Not like a mewing zombies, bruh...
Darkspawn in 2009: We are the army of evil and we are going to destroy the world!
Darkspawn in 2024: We are zombies now...emm...braaaaiiinssss...
Now you lay and wait, for their screams will haunt you in your dreams."
I still have nightmares from this. This is what made me fall in love with the saga (among many other things, of course). I realize we need to let Origins go, I agree, we may never reach this level of quality again, that's okay, but how did we go from that to THIS?
Yeah the whole game made me wish we could side with Dread wolf. It’s why he’s my homie in my new inquisition run :)
BioWare used to be the trendsetter
creating Baldurs Gate, NeverWinter, Mass Effect, all these Iconic games and looks... and now they go from Grim Dark Fantasy to Cartoonish Happy Tree Friends look just like Blizzard did with their WarCraft and Diablo games... going into that WoW style of Cartoon Violence...
"That's an ogre!" No it's not.
Even the characters in the game needed at least some convincing that "it really is darkspawn!" or "That's an ogre! I swear, it is!".
DAO - Orcs on steroids
DAV - Spirits on meth
I like the new design, but the old one gave me chills.
I’m amazed shills and sheep call this a good looking game. Honestly the standard for games has gone down
Yo I have played Dragon Age Origins and Fortnite Save the World (before Battle Royale) and I was damn sure that the footage I just saw was those two game back-to-back like what the actual fuck.
Darkspawn used to be intimidating because of their intelligence and cunning along side their relentless brutality.
Dragon Age was a dark fantasy only in DA: Origins
i see this finisher in my dreams 20 years later on the ogre in the tower
Last time I was this early, the Darkspawn still had weapons, armor and some intelligence.
Wtf are those things in transGuard
Yeah! Trans people RUINED dragon age!!!
I mean when i look at these monsters it just looks like something from saturday morning cartoon for 8 year olds
Its not like the old look is a marvel of design or anything but compared to the new one it looks far better in comparison
I think if i was to make the new ones i would get rid of that weird orange glow in them, gross up the body a bit more to add to that diseased corpse look, and give them less control of certain things like the jaw as it looks unhinged or give them a more "dry" look to add to that failing body look compared to the more "fresh" mussely look they have now
The combat makes me feel like I'm playing God of War 2018 but in Fortnite
From (clearly LOTR-inspired) orcs, to generic COD zombies.
Lol.
Darkspawn smile in origins is like C:
Whats weird is the statues in game of Ogres look like the old designs and the Antaam look a lot like the DA2 qunari design but instead of replacing them the put helmets on them so you cant see.
Everything is so colorful and sparkly for literally no reason
It's just a completely different style now, from designs to the color pallet.
Some people actually try and deny this somehow
I just love how in Veilguard they have a character let you know that what you are looking at is indeed an Ogre.......
The Darkspawn in Dragon Age Origins were so terrifying, at least first playthrough, they seemed unstoppable, like the Dark in Myth The Fallen Lords, in Veilguard they are just neon monkeys.
Yoooo i totally forget that in DAO you get Special animation when you kill them. NICE!
1:12 that marvel dialogue holy sh*t
the thing i loved is you could actually tell what each darkspawn was made from like ogres obviously look like qunari and genlocks are short just like dwarves
Old DA Enemies: **say nothing and lets their intimidating entrance speak for it self**
Veilguard Enemies: OOGA-DA-BOOGA-DA! ME SO SCAWY! YOU AFWAID, PUNY HOOMAN!
Если бы разработчики назвали эту игру как-то иначе, нежели Dragon Age, то к ней вообще бы ни у кого не возникло вопросов.
oh my god I can't believe that ogre design in veilguard, like a literal cartoon
Now darkspawns is generic zombies. Terrible idea.
They so cute - first thing my girl told me
Man this made me want to hook up the PlayStation 3 and play Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2! The enemies in veilguard just look so... cartoonish. The older Dragon age has a more realistic art style to it.
veilguard's darkspawn look like the next step in the evolution of the clownspawn from DA2
Y'know. Darkspawn had started having a society in the Origins dlc.
Everything cool in the Dragon Age series comes from Origins. The only exception would be the Qunari models from DA2
