  • An in depth look at what we had while travelling Rome, Italy. I'll show you one of the top cafes, and many restaurants mentioned across lists (are they actually any good?) Watch and find out. Hint: yes!
    This is what we ate in rome italy (mom & baby edition - because who doesn't worry about what their kids will eat while on holiday?) Add to that the halal factor. Watch as I take you through a halal italy street food tour and get some ideas for your upcoming trip.
    We started the day off right with none other than coffee and pastries. Even though technically it was lunch, haha. Roscioli cafe was a great spot. A top cafe in Rome and for a damn good reason! The pastries were phenomenal. As you can see in the video, we had the croissant and its variations as well as lunch sandwiches and tasty desserts. My favourite was the eggplant and burrata sandwich and the pistachio/almond braided croissant from there. If you go, be sure to try them out :)
    Roscioli Caffe:

    A really great spot we visited was the market place. Market at Piazza Campo de'Fiori. This was a really cool market and where we ended up shopping for local spices and mixes to bring home for family, friends and ourselves. My mom also chose to get a fruit cup here and it was so much better than what I've ever had in Canada. We had a long winter and a poor spring and so our fruit didn't come out well this year and imported fruits don't taste as great.
    The next place we hit up was gelato. When in Rome. This gelato spot was amazing. It's called, Gelateria Dei Gracchi. It was probably amongst the best I had in Italy. I chose the pistachio and hazelnut flavours and they were so good! I can't get over how good they were. Definitely try this place, it's a great area for really delicious italian food in general. On the topic of halal, ask the server which flavours are alcohol free. They are actually incredibly accommodating and very honest. I was going to order a fruit variation and she was the one who told me it wasn't halal. Love people like that alhamdulillah.
    Gelateria Dei Gracchi:
    www.gelateriadeigracchi.it/
    The next spot was a Suppli spot called, Supplizio. It was the spot for Suppli and I believe mentioned on the Eater list. Definitely a spot worth visiting. I loved how the owner was the one doing it all. He was also very kind and accommodating with us. They served everything on biodegradable plates and with cutlery that was also biodegradable.

    Then we needed a break from the food, because italian food is heavy and very filling. So later that night we went for a must when in Italy, pasta!
    The place was in our neighbourhood of the airbnb we stayed at. It was called, Osteria Romana La Foglietta. It doesn't have a website. It's just a local hotspot for pasta and other traditional Roman food like, Tripe, cockerel and more.
    We went to all of these places with a very active toddler (17 months old). He also enjoyed all the same foods we enjoyed with some modifications for his special diet. My son, Suleiman, has a dairy sensitivity. Originally it was a severe allergy, but he seems to be slowly outgrowing it. So now the dietitian has allowed for him to have it baked into foods (like butter in a croissant) or milk powder in other pastries. Still can't have raw or cooked milk or cheese. If you have a dairy allergy in Rome, simply ask for vegan options. They do have them and will happily modify meals.

    I know I’m behind on my upload schedule, but I can assure you I’ll be back to the grind soon! I tried to upload videos while in Italy, but the wifi at the Airbnb was awful. I thought I’d start back up today with a “what I eat in a day” style video. What do you guys think? Would you like eating what we had in Rome?☺️

    Salam sister. Just curious about the last restaurant, was it a halal restaurant? as in their meat was halal?

    • @Coolbabymama
      @Coolbabymama  2 роки тому +4

      Salam, the last restaurant is not a halal restaurant. We had called a week in advance with request for halal meat (specified what we planned to order & paid a deposit in advance). Some restaurants will do this, some won’t. This one agreed and was kind about it. We do this also here in Canada. If ever there’s a restaurant we really would like to try then we call and ask and most of the time the restaurant can do it.

    Please be careful when you eat fried food, they used lard on their oil. Lard is from animal fat usually pork, even cannoly. Also custard, they used gelatin to make it creamy. If it's not halal then please ask again..

    • @Coolbabymama
      @Coolbabymama  4 роки тому +6

      Mien Murad yes you’re right. We did ask about oils before ordering anything fried Alhamdulillah we also mainly stuck to kosher cafes and diligently asked about gelatin in desserts. At the first cafe, the desserts we ordered were without gelatin, they had 100s pastries that looked tasty, but Alhamdulillah we still enjoyed the ones we got🙈

    Assalamu alaykum. My sister I’m from Italy and I can guaranteed that most of the food that you ate for breakfast (croissants, brioche, cannolis)is Haram, this food contains pork fat. Usually Italians bakers use pork fat instead of butter. I always ask for vegan and if they don’t have alternative just avoid it. And the tiramisu contain alcohol.

    • @Coolbabymama
      @Coolbabymama  4 роки тому +11

      Salam, just like you I am watchful when ordering anything from anywhere and asked about both alcohol and pork before purchasing anything. The sweets and breakfasts pastries were all butter based. So no they were not haram and the tiramisu didn’t contain alcohol. We specifically searched out for cafes that offered these options and ate at those cafes. I appreciate your concern, but saying I did something haram is not okay, because it assumes that I am sinning and I would never. And it assumes that after practicing islam for all my life that I wouldn’t do my due diligence and make sure what I consume is okay.

      Usually Italians bakers use butter or margarine, but not pork fat that is used in some traditional regional dish .

    Are those foods halal?

    • @Coolbabymama
      @Coolbabymama  5 років тому +5

      Muhd Firdaus yes, I asked each place about gelatine and all and then only purchased the items that did not contain gelatine 👍🏻 the best practice is to always ask and the last place was a kosher restaurant. There’s a Jewish district in Italy.

    Sister, are you sure they cook halal meat, or your special order, not on the same pan as non halal meat or food that contains alcohol/lard?

    • @Coolbabymama
      @Coolbabymama  Рік тому +1

      Yes, because we always speak to staff before placing an order and at certain restaurants we pre-book and they order halal for us. Restaurants who do this go to great lengths to make us feel welcomed and comfortable. The restaurants that go out of their way to order halal meat for us have always welcomed us to see their kitchens and were incredibly accommodating to us - which is why I shared them, because they deserve the shoutout for their hospitality and respect towards our religion. I really appreciate the lengths they’ve gone to to make us feel so welcomed, especially when other restaurants do not and even act like it’s a burden to have us.
