Lyrics
54 things, 54
Things to see and to explore
Chorus:
In My Africa, whoa, whoa, whoa
In My Africa, whoa, whoa, whoa
The continent of Africa is deep and long and wide
With 54 countries to keep my song diversified
There's rhythmic beats, new things to eat, and places you can go
And every day a different way that you can say hello
For instance meeng-gah-bou is howdy-do when visiting in Ghana
Dumela ma is how you say "Hello" inside Botswana
The Muslims greet the folks they meet with As Salaamu-Alaikum
In the Gambia, Morocco and Sudan's hometown Khartoum
Chorus:
In My Africa, whoa, whoa, whoa
In My Africa, see this when you go
Burundi's got the deepest lake and then the highest peak
Juts up from Tanzania just next door to Mozambique
And carving through the continent there flows the mighty Nile
Pass Uganda, Eritrea and look out! A crocodile!
Namibia's wild skeleton coast is littered with wrecked ships
And Cote d'lvoire has chocolate fields, I love my chocolate chips
Victoria Falls in Zambia, it makes a mighty sound
Zimbabwe shares the falls as well, there's lots to go around
Chorus:
In My Africa, whoa, whoa, whoa
In My Africa, life is all a glow
Chorus:
In My Africa, whoa, whoa, whoa
In My Africa, there's lots of food they grow
The Comoros has the Coelacanth, the prehistoric fish
In Congo, they eat Wamba stew, that stew's my favorite dish
In Sao Tome and Principe, they like their food with spice
The fish in Mauritius is hot and delicious, it's really very nice
Sahara in Algeria's a hot and arid land
Vacation in the Seychelles and relax upon the sand
The Madagascar Aye-Aye taps on trees to find its lunch
If you like rice then you'll love Mauritania -- they munch rice a bunch
Farmers out in Kenya, they raise cattle, goats, and hens
And Burkina Faso's called, "The Land of Upright Men"
The cotton from Benin is in the clothes we wear to school
There's 40 words for camel in Somalia -- pretty cool!
Hey!
Bembeya Jazz comes from Guinea
Baobab trees are stout, not skinny
Ethiopians eat teff, not pota-ter
Equatorial Guinea's quite near the Equator
What's neat in South Africa, two peace prize winners
In Togo, they eat fufu for dinner
Senegal's got a pink lake, Mali's got the blue man
The folks in Nigeria spice food with cumin, They do.
It makes a tasty stew!
In My Africa, whoa, whoa, whoa
In My Africa, whoa, whoa, whoa
The world's biggest frog is found inside of Cameroon
In Chad the lung fish yawn and wake up when it rains in June
Gorillas in Rwanda have a hooting sort of speech
Go to Gabon to see an elephant walk on the beach
Angola's full of dino bones; museum in the ground
Libya's got those Roman ruins -- the coolest ruins around
And Egypt has the pyramids, the Sphinx, and King Tut's tomb
Malawi's got a town called Livingstone to you., I presume
Chorus:
In My Africa, whoa, whoa, whoa
In My Africa, joy and beauty flow
Tunisia's known for gorgeous gates and Swaziland makes glass
From old recycled bottles that the boys and girls amass
Lesotho's folks don't go outside without their fancy hats
The artists in Sierra Leone weave really pretty mats
The tunes they play in Niger, hey! They're vital and alive
The hipco of Liberia that style's gonna thrive
Cape Verde's got the morna -- Man, I dig that swinging beat
Guinea-Bissau's goombay just makes me want to stomp my feet
Chorus:
In My Africa, whoa, whoa, whoa
In My Africa, it`s almost time to go
My Africa's an ageless land, I'm glad that you could see
Its continent's so full of life, you're all my family
And now we leave this loving place, its heartfelt family ties
A warm embrace, a smiling face to bid a sweet goodbye
Chorus:
To my Africa,
Djibouti, Mah kukel, hooray!
To my Africa,
Somalia, Ena gelihu, hey!
Mighty Africa,
in the C.A.R., Fley nabuziz, hey!
Lovely Africa,
D.R.C., kosie and s'il vous plait!
Mighty Africa,
Western Sahara, Mas-salaam, oh yey!

I know right!
I've been singing this song since the first grade and now I'm in the 9th grade and this helped with my finals....thanks Marc Brown
Tia Dreamss It won't help much. They mention, at most, one fact about each country in Africa. They barely mentioned Eritrea, C.A.R, or D.R.C. But besides that, it's a fun song to listen to.
Tia Dreamss you are dumb the song is only 4 years their dumbass
@@marcust.1212 Honey, Arthur was made in the 90’s. Honey this song is over 20 years old. UA-cam wasn’t made in the 90’s so obviously it was posted in the 2000’s

as someone from nigeria, this song was so nice to hear during my childhood bc there’s barely any representation of africa in children shows ;)
I'm from Kenya, and it also felt nice when I watched this episode after it came out.
I’m Ethiopian so same
I'm from Somalia and I can remember when I saw this for the first time
I love how they used the French name for Ivory Coast and the English name for every other country mentioned in the song.
Long Live Planet Awesome 👏 same
That's what the Ivory Coast's government wants their country to be called. Swaziland changed in 2018. The rest if fine with any other language.
@@TaiwaneseFlagThingy Eswatini
@@billyboyer9599 yes
It's because Côte d'Ivoire is one of the few countries with their official name not in English.
I love this song, and Arthur is a great show. I also loved watching Postcards from Buster. All of that helped me with my Geography. Thanks Arthur and Buster.

Anyone still here in 2021? Childhood memories really hit different!

it's funny. I agree some countries in Africa is not a nice place to be, yet numerous times people complaining why they never mention the hardships of it. yet other countries and continents people seem to overlook the negativity of that country.
I've been to Kenya, and I saw plenty of people driving oxen to carry water across the streets.
11 years in the making for this episode
If I was still in school, and we had a lecture on Africa, I will pull this episode up to help me study

Cool song but the idea of Brain singing a song with dw is quite random. "Hey Arthur me and your little sister are going to work on a project and hang out "
Science Project 88 its been a while since I watched the episode but I beloved the plot was, there was a new kid in dws class from africa and DW wanted to learn about it so she went to brain, the smartest kid she knew
nickwalco ohh ok that makes more sense. I haven't watched it in forever too
1:12 did anyone else hear “Rat Shit?” Excuse the language but thats what it sounds like, lol.

As African American who is from Guinea🇬🇳this song is amazing!
You be are Guinean American, African American is different
Egypt and South Africa 🌍 are my favorite countries in Africa
I remember watching this. This was the first time I ever heard Cape Verde mentioned in an American TV show so young me was hyped
So, this song says Africa has 54 countries, but South Sudan has since gained independence, technically making it 55. Why does everyone nowadays still say 54? What did this song count as a country then that isn’t counted now?
Here Western Sahara was #54. However its status of independence remains indeterminate. So if this song was made today and they counted it it could have been 55. Or maybe not
I am Ethiopian and I love this

1:06 The Nile actually doesn't pass through Eritrea.
2:17 Burkina Faso is actually called "the land of honest men".
2:25 4:37 They mentioned Somalia twice.
3:25 Malawi actually doesn't have Livingstone, but they do have "Livingstonia". I recognize the city Livingstone in Zambia.
they literally said "Malawi's got a town called Livingstonia, I presume!"
Upright literally means "honest" according to google, And the word was used in the context of the adjective. e.g.: "An upright member of the community"
They said PAST not pass. They didnt say anything about the nile passing through any countries.
And I dont rlly know why they even mentioned Somalia twice
