The one and only review on that says "The brand was advertised as John Boos and is actually Global Industrial." Could have been a one time issue but something to at least keep an eye on.
@@ZachPetersen I was wondering that same thing. I presume Cody bought from the same link though?
@Q Continuum I was wondering same thing.
That vise is amazing
Can you give an update on your hats Cody?
Its been a while since you talked about them.
Fill that tube with sand to sound deaden it. Also some rubber grommet inserts on the through bolts for the vice would help with the noise and the shock to the boos
STOP!!!! Do not mount the leg/post vertically. Instead angle it from the bottom of the vise to the floor where it meets the wall. Trust me, you want to get that immovable knee banger as far away from the front of the bench as possible. An even better design would move the leg against the cabinet, then duplicate it on the other end of the bench. All weight and blows will still be transferred directly to the floor. I have used this design on many wall mounted benches without regret. Keep the content coming. God bless you, your family and our great country.
Table top made in Illinois, with a vice made in Illinois. Somewhat satisfying to see my home state creates more than just political refugees.
Loving how well the new shop is coming together.
Come on, Illinois! (From the band Houndmouth)
I think you mounted the vise base backwards. The 2 wide spaced bosses should be facing forward so the vise can be closer to the edge of the bench. Also the wider bolt spacing is up front where you need it most. I dunno, Maybe this is how west coast guys do it. Probably OK for working on coo-coo clocks.
East Coast guys don't know how to mount a vise,
Cody you got the vice base on backwards. The back front m feet are spread out to get the vice to hang out farther over the edge of the bench. Turn the base 180 degrees.
Love your videos. Watch all of them. Thank you.
I was horrified when you tightened down the vice mounting bolts that you didn't put any loctite. But then you explained the support bar at the end. Please don't scare us like that!
Thank you for not making us watch every hole that you drill.
Not everyone knows how or what to edit.
Could you give us an update on the no drinking? I’m a young guy who has decided to quit drinking for the foreseeable future.
Stay busy
Mean it and do it. Decide something is more important, does not matter what that is. Stay strong and be well !
That copper-on-copper is a good look with the vice and the sacrificial jaws.
Have a newborn. It takes my 3 attempts to watch the video but eventually i finish it lol
Whenever I have to drive a screw into hard wood, I scrape the screw on a bar of soap first (after drilling a pilot hole) and she goes in way easier.
Cody, reason why the drill bit wonders is because those are meant for steel, get some that are meant for wood... they have a center point and that keeps them from wondering off the mark. (Alpen is a good brand if they sell them in US) They are marketed as dowel drills...
Just curious , a man of your talent and skills why didn’t you build your own chopping block table top.
‘Boos’ means ‘angry’ in dutch. Thought you were learning a foreign language!😄
Spot on, the more you use the block, the more arid, the more you need to keep it oiled. Beeswax mixed with mineral oil work great, or just beeswax. Melted down and rubbed into the board. Mineral oil will never completely dry, that's why it is used. Beeswax will solidify and last a bit longer, especially if the board is stored. In the case of a counter top you can urethane it and not worry about. Do not urethane a cutting board for food use that you intend to cut on.
I can’t tell sir that you’re very proud of your 0.25 bar stool. One could say it even gives you the fizz😂
As a blacksmith I use a wood block to straighten steel without marring it.
Great video Cody 👍
Buddy of mine just bought a old Homestead and I was looking at the vise and behold it is an old Wilton. Couldn't believe it.
Fun thing to do with any spare LED strips is line the bottoms of work surfaces. Any small parts fall off the surface and having good lighting on the floor below is always welcome.
Very good idea!
You know with those heavy ammo holdersmaybe I could put them on like roller so you can open the door and roll out what you were looking for and then pick it up...just a thought..
I always try to buy American. What’s unfortunate is I’ve noticed a drop in quality from American manufactures, on everything from trucks and RVs, to things like jackets and jeans.
Brands know you’ll pay more for American made, and at the same time they try to make things as cheap as possible.
Then there’s brands like Filson and Pendleton who now make most of their products overseas, yet still charge the same price...
@Ordinary Pete Yes, and Covid will just...disapear!
Very few things are American made, go research who owns makita, porter cable etc. Most so called patriots are flying American flags made in China, 😂
Nothing needs to last forever. We don’t. But if everybody tries to grow domestic products (I live in Canada btw) the market will grow and prosper over time. Those American companies or Canadian companies will grow and better themselves and eventually become world class with out help. Because that’s the mentality we have over here.
Were not going to get away from china overnight, but if we all consciously try to support american made companies, things will continue to get better.
It made me cringe to see the bare threads projecting so far from the bottom...then you explained the leg arrangement...whew! I still recommend trimming the threads after everything is in place and use acorn nuts for a finished look that won't snag your knees. I love how well thought out all of the components of the shop are.
Circular* plate on the ground... ALWAYS.
Amazing setup.
Keep doing what u do we love it.
Kindness & Love changing the world.
One time I watched a UA-cam video all the way to the end but then when I tried to comment all of my snarky thoughts didn’t make any sense anymore! So, about these long bolts...
Nice looking build. When you get tired of hitting your knees on the front two bolts, I would suggest counter sinking the nuts flush or install lag screws that don’t extend through the bottom. I also agree with other comments about attaching your steel support at an angle to the wall. Keep up the good work.
I'm no expert on vise placement but isn't the base backwards? On the top view you can see that the feet on the backside are placed more towards the side.
If you'd put those to the front wouldn't that mean you can give the visejaws more of an overhang so you have more clearance with odd shapes etc or is there a reason for doing it this way?
Honest question here, I'd just like to know. Also Dutch so if my english is wonky at places, I'm sorry
Thats the way ours is mounted. (Opposite to the way Mr Wranglerstars vice is mounted)
That's a really good price for the butcher block top
Looking Great. So glad you decided to put that lay gunner the vice so many other people make their benches and have go to straighten a nail out on the thing and they bounce like a trampoline.
Nice bench, wish I had a PC desk that nice. I'll start looking
I come here for knowledge, leave with it , and entertainment.
Thank you
Wow that's really well put together. I don't know if I could justify something like that in my suburban life, lol.
But I do want to build a couple nice benches and tables for different things in my house.
I'm glad you clarified about why the bolts were still long. That was going to drive me crazy. It's a really nice bench and be ashamed to have any of the finishing not be as good as the other parts
Ever try Cultivate? It is an App that list american made products.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Can’t find it for Android
Gonna check it out
Haven't seen Fresh P in a while.

Never heard the status on your back. You all well now?
As someone who was lucky enough to get a discontinued model of Boos Block for free, all I have to say... no beg, please do not use linseed oil to “finish” the block. It was a pain to get it all out but it was well worth it
Since you are going to anchor the vice support to the floor, would it make more sense to angle your tube so the base is anchored closer to the wall allowing for a bit more leg and foot room?
Maybe, I'll think on this,
Your attention to detail is truly impressive! Like how you installed the washers with the lettering visible. PRIDE IN YOUR WORK 😍
I always thought the wide-set vice base holes went to the table edge. That is a nice looking workspace. Gives me much fizz.
Your correct that allows the Jaws of the vise to further extent out past the table edge...
Are there fake Wranglerstars popping up on youtube? Curious as to why he's adding (Official Video) on each of his vids nowadays.
I could be wrong, but I think it's an algorithm thing.
Boos is Angry in Dutch.. I was kinda wondering what made him angry this time. :)
grappig :)
haha was wondering the same too haha
I have visited the BOOS company in Effingham, Illinois...they have an awesome factory store...great prices. I have had a BOOS block in my kitchen for nearly 20 years...no splits, no problems...but I do properly care for it.
I caught myself blowing off the metal and wood shavings after he drilled the holes!!!! lol 😂😂😂😂
Beautiful work space!
Nice set up. I’m not coveting but I definitely wouldn’t mind one of those in my detached garage. My problem is it stays a little damp.
Happy to see you migrate from “every mans set up” to heirloom bench set up
Great looking worktop table. I love your hobby setup and plan on making a similar dream bench in a corner of my shop for dedicated hobby work.
Just finishing a bench with a vise, and took some clarity in your statements on clearance and actually repositioned it before I mounted it. Thanks for the tip!
You should put rubber hose on the threads so sweet loaf doesn’t need stitches
Look great👍🏼.
Really looks well thought out Cody, I'm impressed.
Time will tell if your "Minds Eye" use of this bench will be fulfilled, but whatever happens, I know you have a very solid base for the work you want to do on this bench.
Cheers from Tokyo
Stu
Beautiful build! So soothing and satisfying watching a great build and products like that vice work! 😁👍👏
Over the years I have enjoyed your channel, I really like the history that you add when you deem it necessary. Joe from California
I'm certainly not the handyman you are and my knowledge of tools is nowhere near yours. But, that vice and countertop are beautiful pieces.
Watch and learn :)
I'm not saying you didn't earn it, or you don't deserve it, but you live in every man's dream world where you have the time, money, and skills to do everything meticulously right, and make money while doing it!
You remind me of a cool Felix Unger of sorts.
Fyi your videos have not been showing up in my subscription feed for a couple weeks now.
I need to apology to you. In one of your previous videos on installing your electrical plugs along the wall. I scrolled you on not using a ground wire. According to code it is permissible with EMT to use the conduit as a ground. I guess in practice of 50 years in the electrical trade. I never once used EMT as a ground. I always pulled a separate ground wire and will continue that practice in the future.
So I stand corrected and I'm sorry for calling you out and leaving your viewers with the impression you were doing something wrong.
I come from a line of Brick Masons and I remember as a kid my dad did a block repair job in a bowling alley. They had scrap pieces of lane, more than enough for for dozens of work benches. They gave my dad as much as he wanted. My dad had a big u shaped shop. He built brick pillars in different places and sawed down the old bowl floor to fit. For the top and against the wall. That shop was probably 15x15 with the end open for easy access for finished projects and sheet goods to the table saw, radial arm saw (blast from the past) etc. You could hang anything or load any part of the bench and it not budge.
You bought a work table that you need to condition and oil like a dress shoe? Why bother with something that needs so much maintenance?
If it's a matter of aesthetics, there are materials that are made to look virtually indistinguishable from a wood finish, that doesn't have the maintenance, warping, and, longevity issues that wood does.
Very cool! Inspiring (as always) to take a look at my set up and 'how can I improve what I have?' or 'what can I be doing differently?'. Thanks Cody
Nice job! Looks great. May not be needed to anchor the leg down into the floor if it's bolted at the top and you have an adjustable foot on it to put it under load. If it's adjustable height it'd also be easier to move the vise if need be, in case the bench and floor are not exactly parallel. Enjoy the beautiful work environment!
Dec 2020 video: testing amazon boos vs 2x4 butcher block table tops
Hi Lt. Dan! Also I know I would sink those bolt ends into my knee or leg eventually. I would definitely find a way to countersink them or defend my knees.
10:45 The word nice is an understatement.
Looks great I was thinking for someone on a budget they could make the countertop with 2x4 like you did for that bench you made for Jack.
Love to see your work and the attention to detail. Ultimately it makes for a better and inspiring experience on your end =)
Very nice area, the leg below the vise wasn't expected but a very goof idea. Thanks
Why not router out two slots for rails across the counter so you can slide the vise to any position and mount other stuff as well
You should review that weird klax multi tool axe thing, it'll never replace an axe but it looks neat for something a bug out bag or every day carry or even day hikes
I like the color of that vise
I use boos in the kitchen every day end grain in the best cutting surface it’s easiest on the knives
I would have some anxiety drilling through a nice counter. I would love to see a test of how much that butcher block could hold. Thousands I'm sure.
Question I have is are you going to have noise transfer from the metal cabinets if you start pounding on anything on the bench or vise?
Looks like a great setup.
The whole workbench area looks great! Looking forward to seeing it in use in various projects in the future!
Just for next time... try account for lateral wood movement when attaching the wood to the brackets, it’ll be fine as is but slotted holes might be a safer bet. Great video, 👍 keep it up
Funny to here you talk about how hard the maple was. That’s what the east coasters are used to working with. 😉
Not sure if this has been mentioned but the 2 holes on the vise that are wider spread should go to the front. Keeps the holes farther from the edge. Too late now but for future reference
When you were mounting the vice, I kept thinking those long bolts really bug me. Then I saw the end of the video. Good job.
Love the vise. Butcher block is alright. I personally prefer a Solid slab my self.
That’s a good wranglerstar video. Good job 👍
Why did you choose to mount it to your lockers instead of building legs for it?
Nice! Fill the tube with sand for more mass.
I'm from Belgium en in flamisch boos means angry so it was really funny to read the title of the video
Sponsored by dewalt and still uses Milwaukee 😂😂
Its Breast cancer awarness month PLEASE thank God for everthing he has done for you
I thought I'd get to see the Accidentally uploaded version but you are quick on the draw in taking it down!
I’m willing to bet that’s east coast maple 🍁 😂
That comment made me chuckle. I finally joined the Loctite badge club today. I was a little behind the curve to support the channel even though I've been watching for years.
Beautiful "hobby" workbench :)
Too bad you didn't have time to make the countertop yourself.
That would be a cool project to watch and try.
CONRAD!!!! His name was Conrad!!! What a great name!!!!
Always buy USA made if you can if they don’t have any ask them to get it. 👍🏻🇺🇸
Great video Cody ;) Thanks for sharing
I like the way you have built your work desk i will look great
Looking great. Are you planning on welding the leg together?
My leatherworking table I made out of 1x4 Red Oak. It's super heavy because I laminated it tall way so it's 4 inches thick of solid red oak, but it's a joy to hammer on.
Waiting for the next monthly doomsayer video
Soft jaws frustrate me. I use a couple of strips of Gorilla tape instead. Doesn't last forever but works for me. YMMV. Love the set up though.
Gorilla tape and some cardboard, ... a temporary fix to a permanent problem. (Hardened jaws)
