I show you how EASY it is to get free plants from propagating blackberries via 2 methods.
I now have many new thornless blackberry plants, by successfully taking cuttings from the original bush.
I really recommend putting a cutting with 1-2 buds under the soil as I get better roots from these.
Included is an update on cuttings already started weeks earlier.
Sorry about the sound. My camera broke as I was recording this. I salvaged all I could to make this video.

Its so funny, blackberries grow like wildfire here and everyone is ripping them out to try to keep them under control, so its amusing to see someone propagate them. I LOVE blackberries. Of course, we have ZERO on our property, which is a shame. So perhaps I will need to use your method to get some going on the homestead! (so they can grow like wildfire and i end up ripping them out LOL)

Yeah, they are a problem in so many places.
These thornless ones are great as they are less invasive and have no thorns.
Quite a few people are surprised when I mention them as they can have such a bad reputation.

Saw you in Cam and Theresa's live last night and decided to come see your channel. Boy I am glad I did! I need help in my garden !! Blackberries actually grow wild here and people try to keep them out of their yard because then they will take over and you can't get rid of them. People hire companies of goats to come eat them. I actually live across from a nature area where they are growing like crazy. I am actually going to go pick some today. I need help with my raspberries. The last few years my raspberry plant grows but doesn't produce that much fruit. Loved this, looking forward to more of your great videos. I really do need garden help.

      @MyAussieGardenKitchen  2 роки тому

      G'day.
      Thanks so much for visiting.
Were you there when the dessert slipped off the plate? That was so funny. 🤣
Do you know what variety of raspberry you have? I might be able to help a little if I knew what type it is.
There are Fall bearing and Summer bearing varieties and they both need to be cut back, but differently.
Yes, the thornless varieties like the Blackberry I have is a non invasive variety, so they are definitely more suited to the home garden.
I hope you enjoyed your berry picking session.
      All the best,
      Daz.

      G'day!
Yes, I'll walk along the row and sometimes see on that has hung down and roots have formed and grown into the ground.
I do prefer to cut the tip and have at least 2 bud sections buried as i seem to get more root growth that way.
The tips in the soil is still a very valid method though.
Good luck and please let me know how you eventually get on if you have the time.

That sounds like a great idea. They just need to keep them moist and have them have part shade and sun.

Oh, that is great! Nice one!
We just started Spring over here last month, so I am looking forward to my berries this coming growing season... Hopefully!
I'm in the middle of editing and update video that shows the outstanding root development on the cuttings.
I think the biggest thing I have taken away from all this, is to make sure I have at least one bud buried, as they have all rooted a lot more from a buried, but, that the cut further down.
Thanks so much and enjoy those Blackberries next season.

Thank you for sharing information and tips on how to propagate blackberries, Daz. We have some that were planted last year and they really took off this year! Ours do have the thorns though, but are quite delicious. They aren't the long berries, but the shorter ones. My daughter bought another 5 to add but she really didn't need to now that I know we could just propagate them. Will be buying containers and soil so that we can get some going from the ones we have since I know that I love the taste of those. I do not know about the ones she bought a month ago as they've not produced berries yet.

      G'day Sam.
I just missed your live chat this morning by a few minutes as I had just woken up.
The time difference between us makes it so hard at times.
I hope you have been well mate.

      Thanks very much.
They are such an awesome berry and very easy to propagate.
Hey, what is your name please? I don't know your name. If you don't want to share it online, that's cool, but I can never find it on your videos.
Speaking of that. Do you have a new video planned?
      All the best,
      Daz.

Is it OK to call you Judymae?
      Thanks very much.
I have an update video coming out real soon and you get a really good look at the root growth. The audio will be better too.
The camera malfunctioned and broke when making this video and it was a struggle.
      Thanks so much,
      Daz.

Very good explanation Dax. I love making cuttings too, mainly, as you mentioned I am cheap and like to save money haha. One thing I got to do is make some Blackberry cuttings. I don't know the name of the variety I got but they are a thornless variety. As well as we have tons of wild ones everywhere but like you said, the thornless ones are great! I like the idea about burying the tip. Never tried that way. Good stuff buddy.

    • @MyAussieGardenKitchen

      G'day mate.
Yes, burying the tip and holding it down with a rock produced thicker roots for me, but to be fair, I have not done it enough to say if it's going to do that each time.
The thornless ones I have are less invasive than the wild ones here, so that's why I went with this option for my yard.
      All the best mate,
      Daz.
