Australia

Cooking, growing fresh fruit & vegetables, raising chickens, worm farming, preserving food & looking at the Australian wildlife, that visit our home is what I love to share here.
I'm Daz a long retired chef. Nice to meet you.
I make videos that are easy to follow along, so people of any skill level can cook and grow great food at their own home.
I had to stop work as I have battled with mental health issues & I am using this hobby to gain confidence in engaging with people. Hopefully encouraging others to try being active too.
Our family lives on a small block of land in Australia, sharing a boundary with the Aussie bush.
Kangaroos & native Aussie birds are daily visitors.
I do accept certain items for review & all opinions are honest and real. Refer to existing videos for my examples.
Please look for additional information elsewhere to make an informed decision on anything you may do after viewing any of my videos.
Thanks and take care,

Fancy life do they speak of the beauty of the worker it’s a beauty to work I wish I had a home
Hey Daz! Good to see you! Celery is the bane of my existence! I’ll be trying again this year!❤
Hello Daz ,mate ..great video !Ive had trouble with grow bags so this was a good encouraging video ..Yes celery seeds are great to cook with !Take care our friend love Lynne and Wayne
G'day guys. it's so good to hear from you and it's was such a nice surprise when Wayne put up that first video in ages just recently. I have your video about preserving saved Lynne. Hopefully tonight when I can watch you on the big TV. I love grow bags, but the way they dry out in Summer has always been a downfall and making the reservoirs like this and even some old kiddie pools have worked wonders! You two take care and look after yourselves, Daz.
Gday Daz. Love your videos and your style. I recently purchased a passionfruit vine without any planning so am very glad to see your video so I can learn all about how to grow them. I did know about the suckers as I do bush regen work and have had to remove many of them, so definitely didn’t want to start a passion fruit sucker infestation!! Thanks for making these videos and sharing so much information in such a friendly way. Lovely Aussie culture.
G'day! Oh wow, thanks so much for your kind words and it's nice to meet you. It would be nice if a warning about suckers could be put on labels of grafted passion fruit as they can be a serious problem and you have obviously seen your fair share. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment and the best of luck to you with your new plant. Daz.
Brilliant idea for grow bags. I stopped using them because they dry out so quickly in our hot Adelaide summers
G'day. Yes, drying out has to be the most frustrating thing about grow bags. I do like them for so many reasons though and having something catch the water is a game changer. Especially in Summer. Even packing them into old kiddie pools works wonders. I'll have a video dedicated to it in the coming weeks. Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment. Daz.
@ I’m going to definitely rethink the grow bags …thanks
Thanks for your share Daz. You reminded me that hubby bought a growbag we are yet to use. And I need an option to grow garlic away from our normal beds, where we had the issues with rust this past growing season. I still want to grow garlic but rest those beds. Thanks again, Rach
G'day Rachel. Yes, I remember seeing the rust in a couple of your videos. The garlic should do well and with the grow bag, but have the option to place it pretty much anywhere you like. One reason I am a fan of using them. That was one nice haul of beans by the way. I have not finished watching, as we have a few things going on here, but they looked absolutely fantastic Rachel. Take care. Daz.
How beautiful does that big pots of Marigolds look!
G'day Crystal. That is going to be my Marigold pot from now on. They do so well there in that spot and it's a joy to look at it and to transplant them to other spaces too. I've been removing them from the back, to preserve that really nice front on view of them. Thanks so much and all the best. Daz.
👍 Did you see my email?😮Great video
G'day mate. Thanks as always for watching and yep, just answered the email moments ago. Thanks very much for letting me know it was there. Take care. Daz.
Hey Daz, I really like the reservoir under the grow bags, I have to try that. Your plants are looking good
G'day! Yes, it's a real game changer, especially in the hot Summers like the one we are having right now. I absolutely recommend doing it. Thanks and I hope all is well with you guys. Daz.
Excellent vid Daz, thanks heaps mate, thought and prayers to you and your family. Seeya Rob
G'day Rob. Thanks as always mate. I always appreciate it. Hope you are keeping cool. Our cooling system died 2 weeks ago and it has been brutal here in Northern Vic. Take care. Daz.
Hello Daz, how have you been!
G'day Tom. Doing OK thanks mate. Still plodding along and the struggle is real. 😁 Hope all is well mate. Daz.
Watching & learning .🦋
G'day. Thanks so much for watching and I enjoyed this one. It was nice to sit and talk about stuff while potting up some flowers. Didn't get many done while talking, but it was nice. Thanks and take care. Daz.
Love to see your garden! Everything is thriving 🌱
G'day Helen. Thanks so much and it was nice to sit and chat while potting up the flowers. it's been so hot here and our cooling system broke 2 weeks ago, so it was very nice in the shade. Thanks and I hope all is well. Daz.
Need more videos as a distraction from the mess on this side of the world
G'day. Yes, I certainly know what you mean. I do feel very fortunate being so far away from a lot of things. Take care over there. Daz.
great to see you back out in the graden again you are looking good daz next to my step mum you are my favorite aussie i love marigolds and i hope to bum some seeds from my neighboor she had a huge pot of them mine did not do as well as hers but we keep trying
G'day Heather. That is so nice of you to say so. Thanks! I have only become a Marigold fan in recent years. I have had them off and on and understood the important role they have in the garden, but yes it's just recent that I really make an effort that they will be back and in numbers. Thanks and take care. Daz.
Salvias are my favourites. The blue banded bees love them and so do the native miners. And easy to propergate.
G'day Caroline. Oh nice! I have always wanted some, but never got around to it, so I could not believe my luck when one of the kids said that I might be interested in them. I absolutely plan to treat them well and make sure I have them here every year now. Thanks and all the best. Daz.
Great Harvest my friend!
G'day Kathy. Certainly a lot warmer than you at the moment. 😁 Our cooling system broke down 2 weeks ago and it's been terrible here as we are in the second half of Summer and it gets so hot here. It was nice to sit in the shade and relax, but it was almost 100f in that shade at the time. Take care and keep warm. Daz.
Here watching 👍 Hope you’re doing well. Have a great weekend!
G'day Pete. Thanks as always mate and good luck for this years scratching. 2024, was not great. All the best mate. Daz.
Thanks for the video. I was wondering why my passionfruit plant was growing a different species of vine out of its own stem. All is clear and I've removed it.
G'day! Nice work and hopefully you'll have no issues in the future. I wish I new this info when I first started growing them decades ago. Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment. Daz.
I saw this recipe around a week ago and finally got around to baking it. It smells absolutely fantastic! I'm glad I found your channel, it is a huge inspiration! Gardening and baking are two things I wanted to start doing more, especially while I'm still young.
YUMMM my fave nice
Very cool!
👍
I found out that what I thought were pomegranate are actually passion fruit
G'day. Ohhh.... I don't know if that is a good thing for you or not? I prefer passionfruit myself, but people do love their pomegranate. Good luck with them. Daz.
@MyAussieGardenKitchen i don't like either but the family does
Well my mum has one tomorrow endo and the other end she had to drink on magnesium glicate and 3 1L drinks if the orange in 3 hours and one 4 hour before going into the hospital 4L of it crazy stuff
G'day. Oh wow. Interesting! I hope all goes well with your mum at the hospital and with the results. All the very best to her and yourself. Daz.
That would be a butcher bird. Which species depends on exactly where in Australia you are. The other option is a lyrebird imitating a butcher bird.
G'day! I wish i could get a visual on it, so I could know for sure. I will keep on trying to see. Thanks and take care. Daz.
@@MyAussieGardenKitchen do a google images search for Australian butcherbirds so you can get an idea what you're looking for. Some of them look a bit like magpies but quite a bit smaller.
I don't think I've ever heard a bird sound like that before? Definitely not any butcher bird or currawong I've ever heard unless they have regional songs or it's been slowed down a tonne. Do you have Lyre birds near you? Maybe someone taught it the bird song from the movie?
G'day. Not aware or Lyre birds in this area and I just cannot get a visual on the bird, which is frustrating as I hear it so often. Thanks so much. Daz.
Nice to see some Aussie garden advice, thank you. I had some passionfruit plants just pop up on my place, I was so excited, and put up a bit of reo mesh for it to climb on. Now I’m a little concerned, mainly cause I don’t know where this plant came from! Anyway, I also bought a few plants that I was going to plant in the ground, but now I’ll definitely just pot them up 💚👍🏼😊
G'day Sharon. So sorry for the late reply to your comments here. it's nice to meet you. Yes, it's a bit of a worry when the vine appears from nowhere and it turns out to be suckers from a previously removed plant or a plant that is elsewhere. I have heard some real horror stories. Just remember that if your plants are NOT grafted, you should be fine with them in the ground in most cases. But sadly, yes, if they are grafted, I would contain them to pots personally. Good luck and all the best. Daz.
Aussie Jack Black
And is non-toxic, provided it's not aluminum.
Maybe it's the "extinct" bird from hawaii
Called a carrawong in wa ,like a magpie bit smaller bigger beak ,smart bird,
I thought it was the call of the Australian Butcher bird, it's fantastic and thankfully we've got heaps of them. Thanks Daz. Seeya Rob
Most definitely. What a beautiful sound.
Butcher bird.
Hi Daz , just found your channel, i must say my god you can cook, been binge watching your cooking recipes, & im drooling over them all, but most of all you cook so simply with minimal fuss , I'm making your easy chicken noodle soup in the crockpot tomorrow, cant wait to try it. 👍💜
G'day! Wow, that's so very good of you and I'm showing this one to my wife as soon as she wakes up! 😁 No, seriously, that's so nice of you to say and it makes my day to receive such awesome feedback. That's great about the soup and I really hope it works out well and you enjoy it. I was looking at my hard drive the other day and I still have a few recipes with the crockpot that I have not published yet. Thanks so much for binge watching the videos too. UA-cam sees that and are more likely to share my videos with others when they see that a channel is being engaged like that. Thanks so much. If you have time, please let me know how the soup goes or any of my other recipes if you were to make them in future. Thanks for making my day and take care. Daz.
@MyAussieGardenKitchen OMG Daz , the chicken noodle soup turned out delicious , the whole house smelt amazing when cooking ,I could even smell it out side up in the garden , I've even got plenty to freeze for later on now , whole family enjoyed it, was wondering Daz would you be able to show us step by step how to do a piece of silverside & pickle pork in slow cooker , for when the cooler months arrive, love your passion for cooking & your gardening, nothing more satisfying then growing produce to harvest & bring in the kitchen to cook with, so glad I found your channel, take care. 😃👍
@@emza2023 oh wow, that's so good to hear. Thanks so much for letting me know how you went. One thing I love about the slow cooker, is the smell it drifts through the house for hours at a time. It can be a pain too though, as it can be agony smelling it and having to wait til later. I actually have Silverside planned for later and I may actually just follow my wife with the camera for that one, as she does a really nice one in the slow cooker. I'm taking a break from doing a cooking video right now actually. Just had my first bite after starting off with 2 marinades yesterday and it was so worth the wait. Thanks so much and I'm so glad you found me. Daz.
Looks amazing Daz. Chicken thighs are the most flavourful and way cheaper than the breasts here. I love this type of meal. Hope you are doing well friend. Take care, Annette 🌺
G'day Annette. Thighs have traditionally been cheaper cuts here, but they have been coming up as the priciest of the main cuts at times. Not sure what the reason is, but we have cut back on them due to cost unfortunately. Thanks as always. Daz.
What a wonderful slowcooker chicken rice recipe, this looks sooo good, makes me think of raiding the refrigerator. 👍🏻
Great easy recipe, I highly recommend
G'day! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave some nice feedback. It's a recipe I enjoyed playing with before I was happy with it and I'm so happy to share it and see that others enjoy it too. Thanks and all the best. Daz.
Don't know why but thighs are dearer than breasts at the moment. It used to be the other way around.
G'day Caroline. YES! We've run into this problem here and we don't know why it is. Because of our large family, we buy the cheaper option and chicken breasts are nice and you can do a lot with them, but we like a like of cooking where thighs are just going to be more tender and tastier. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Daz.
Hey Daz, great to see you at your special calling. Making me always hungry. That looks like a wonderful and tasteful meal. Have a great and blessed weekend.
G'day mate. Thanks so much and I hope all is well over there. Yes, it a good one, this recipe. Take care. Daz.
You had me until the peas Daz!!! 🤣 It does however look incredibly delicious. Especially loved the way you cooked and added those onions.
G'day Rachel. Oh come on! Gotta go the peas! They are so good! 😁 I just love watching onions cook away in instances like this with the fresh herbs and the smell is great. Thanks as always, Daz.
Hey Daz!!! Nice recipe for the New year! Thank you!
G'day! You are very welcome my friend. Thanks and I hope all is well. Daz.
i would have to cut this in half but i bought a small crock pot that is about half the size of my big one so it works better for me looks delish daz and i will be giving it a try!!!!! hi from chilly tucson az this lizzard needs a very big hot rock!!!!
G'day Heather. One day I will make a recipe and it will be more reasonable in size. 😁 It's just so much easier to record while cooking for the family of 9. 😁 Enjoy that cold weather. It's been so hot here, around 100f and our cooling system broke down a week ago. It has been rough! The house just does not have a chance to cool down overnight. Take care. Daz.
Looks great
G'day! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment. It's much appreciated. All the best. Daz.
Hello there, Daz! You have been on my mind and in my prayers, and I hope you are doing well as of late. This is a nice twist from the Southern US version I am accustomed to. I will try this version this weekend as I am snowed in. Thank you!
G'day Trista. Ohh, a Southern US version sounds interesting and delicious!!!! I'm sorry you are snowed in. So opposite to us here in Summer. Our cooling system broke down a week ago and we have had 100F days and it's not been nice at all. Stay warm. Daz.
Thanks Daz. I have already planted one in a pot and it is doing well but I noticed some heat stress today and the pot was quite dry so I just wanted to check if anyone else was growing in pots. I might put a sauce under it and add a tap to the sauce so that I can drain it in winter. Cheers and best of luck for 2025
G'day mate. One thing you can also consider, is to surround the pot with other pots to block the sun, or to make a basic wooden box to go around the pot and deflect the heat. I have been meaning to do this for a few years now. Got as far as cutting pallet planks to size but never continued. 🙄 Good luck with yours. Daz.
Is that your first encounter Daz
G'day! With a Red belly, yes. I've unfortunately had a few Eastern Browns here in the past and the worst instance was standing within centimeters of a coiled Eastern Brown while I was wearing thongs. I was watering my raspberries and did not see it until I went to step over it and realised what it was. No clue why it did not bite. We have a few snake bandages here with pressure indicators (and in cars) and I remind the family on snake bite procedure every year. Hope to never put it into practice. All the best. Daz.
@MyAussieGardenKitchen I had tigers and browns at my last place in town. I'm now on 5 acres and so far just seen browns here. We always have to be on the look out for them hey.
It's my pleasure to help you out, definitely one I can cross off my bucket list.
G'day mate. Really appreciate you travelling this direction when you were going the opposite direction and thanks for your professionalism and education. Really nice to meet you, but I'd rather not in this situation, next time. 😁 All the best. Daz.
