Seeing how psyched people get about their new plants - plants that I grew - Man, that's a good feeling. 😊
My friend gave me a couple of raspberry starch two years ago now I have been growing all along My fence line. She moved away and when she came to visit I gave her some back so she could plan and her new home. So great!
One summer years ago Red Raspberries crawled out from underneath my neighbors fence, and came over to see me. I encouraged them to stay, transplanted their new growth, and have my own 25 foot Raspberry hedge 100% for free 😁.
Awesome how many shoots they throw, I've never seen them underground that clearly! In case anyone is looking to get even more plants from the raspberries they already have - if you're really planning to butcher a plant and make a hedge - the stems will root wherever they touch damp ground too so if you want to propagate more you can bend down and lightly bury some of last year's mature live brambles in the middle or at the tip and split them off once they've rooted, it doesn't take long. This also makes them a really painful tripping hazard, which I guess is an added benefit lol.

Nice video. We didn't know this 2 years ago when we planted a small raspberry plant. Now, we have about 20 raspberry plants that are 7ft tall. We decided to dig up several of the roots and replant in other areas of the yard. Here's some of the ideas that I know work and have done for years: 1. Recycling green onions, just cut about 1/2 inch above the roots and plant the roots. We start by buying some from the produce section of the store and use those. They will continue to grow (I've had some for 7 years until we sold the house and my neighbor asked for them. 2. Recycle potatoes. Just set a couple potatoes aside and let the alone. They'll grow sprouts that we can plant. 3. Recycle bell peppers. We just plant the seeds. There are usually about 80 seeds per pepper. 4. Recycle lettuce. just set the hard part (the core) in water and it will continue to grow. They'll only grow for about 4 generations. But, it gives us more for our money. 5. Recycle Garlic. Just set each section of clove in water and it will grow roots. Then plant it. One garlic turns into ten quite easily and they are hard to kill. We uprooted some and tossed them onto concrete. It grew any way. We just noticed some growing that we hadn't planted. 6. Recycle carrots. Just cut the carrot about one inch below the green leafy part and replant it. The orange part is the root. I could keep going on this because there is so much potential for gardening produce. Take care and thanks again for the video.

Cool info! The Heritage Raspberry sounds like the one I need to find. I have a raspberry plant that I'm struggling with because the stems are so incredibly thorny. Is the Heritage very thorny?
I have blackberries out the wazoo. I thought the birds gifted me a black raspberry but apparently I was mistaken. DTG also ID'd wineberries the birds planted for me.
I have wild blackberries on the edge of my yard and some thornless ones I planted near the house. Dont they spread just the same as raspberry? I want more thornless ones. I'm thinking of trying cuttings after they get done fruiting.
I purchased live raspberry plants from Baker Creek in Spring of 2020 and they will not flower or fruit. The leaves look great. Do these take time like fruit trees?? Am I doing something wrong? They are in mostly fox farm ocean forest potting soil, worm castings from my worm bin and bat guano outdoors in air pots (to keep them from taking over our small yard).

You're going to see blossoms and fruit probably next year, as long as you feed them and don't move them.
I bought 2 raspberry plants last year, and they are huge this year, but they never produced! They are a Texas raspberry called Dorman red that are trailing. They are in a very tall, raised bed. And hang to the ground and have even rooted into the soil. What have I done wrong? And should I just cut all those new canes down to the ground bc they didn't produce or will those canes produce next year?
How do you get your teens to help you in the garden? We have tried and tried but they just don't want to have anything to do with it. They prefer McDonald's to fresh food. Even though we raised them on good wholesome food.
Do you have any videos also talking about how to try to broaden the amount of time the plant produces berries? Like people try to do the everbearing raspberry bushes... but people don't talk about how you try to keep them producing all year versus shutting down?

For blackberries you can pull up by the roots and you'll see the shoots like on the raspberry. You can also root the tips too.
@@kelliwiemers6445 i Appreciate it!
Thank you, love the stuff
Thanks Dave....cool name by the way🤭🤭🤭
I'll check into some of your books....is the listed authors name the same?
Yes - David the Good. Davids unite!

Great job!
Sweet video.
I want to ask wed the seeds is good or not?
Will a raspberry plant that was planted near a septic leach field be a problem to eat? Or are the fruits not affected by the virus water?
I wouldn't worry about it.
Are you back in florida...northern region? I will be using all your awesome information as soon as I am outta my urban jungle.
He’s actually in SW Alabama, very close to Florida.
Cool info! The Heritage Raspberry sounds like the one I need to find. I have a raspberry plant that I'm struggling with because the stems are so incredibly thorny. Is the Heritage very thorny?
Heritage are thorny.
It is thorny, but not as nasty as some.
I have a feeling the dollar sign will boost viewer count for sure
How do they do in sw Florida?
Can I do the same with blackberries
Will the Heritage variety grow in Zone 9b?
Same they don't do good here. Maybe if you have a microclimate where its more to their environment
Probably not. Try Mysore instead.
@@davidthegood thanks, I was just wondering also.
Yaas I have a golden raspberries that are going bananas currently
My bananas are going raspberry.
Great problem!
You need to make an update on these in a couple of months.
Yes !
@@comfortablynumb9342 yes they spread the same. You can just pile dirt on the cane where it bends near the ground and they will root.
@@hughbrackett343 I just watched a video about them. That technique is called ground layering. Some bonsai trees are propagated that way too.
The canes that bare fruit may have been removed before you bought them.
Many raspberry varieties only set fruit on two year canes.
Will the roots fuse eventually if they're from different seeds?
Thought I was nuts,,, i do middle planting, (and the stamp thing)
Watching this while dividing up sweet potato slips :-)
Tenacious Roots is my band's name
I just did it per your instructions. If it doesn't work you have to come help me with the next batch.
Good luck!
I’m so scared to do this 😅 I just bought a raspberry plant
Does this work with blackberries?
I bought 2 raspberry plants last year, and they are huge this year, but they never produced! They are a Texas raspberry called Dorman red that are trailing. They are in a very tall, raised bed. And hang to the ground and have even rooted into the soil. What have I done wrong? And should I just cut all those new canes down to the ground bc they didn't produce or will those canes produce next year?
Most raspberry plants grow canes one year and then those canes fruit the following year. I'd let them grow
The extension list it as a poor for Florida. David are you still in Florida?
How do you get your teens to help you in the garden? We have tried and tried but they just don't want to have anything to do with it. They prefer McDonald's to fresh food. Even though we raised them on good wholesome food.
Do you ship to OK?
Are blackberries just like raspberries in this?
David, Doesn't everyone put postage stamps in exactly the correct spot? Lol
Do you have any videos also talking about how to try to broaden the amount of time the plant produces berries? Like people try to do the everbearing raspberry bushes... but people don't talk about how you try to keep them producing all year versus shutting down?
They really just want to go once for me, though the length of the season depends on the variety. Usually we get about a month.
@@davidthegood yeah some places are going to be different.. And I guess climate and soil can limit that. But it would be neat to find out how to get them to go all summer. Maybe that's wisheful thinking.
Thanks.
Why the heck did you bring up postage stamp? I'm frantically searching for one, I know we have plenty, cause I have to do something I haven't done in 2years.
Don't forget to water it in too! I've been propogating these bad boys allllll over the place.
I bought this Heritage variety 2 months ago at Lowes. I wonder if this variety has thorns? Mine has but they say thornless has soft thorns at a foot high than becomes smooth stems. Mine is 2 feet high and is giving a few raspberries already.
Mine has thorns
@@davidthegood ...Yes I looked it up. Heritage is a thorny type. Thank you.
