Again so fundamental when we see you explaining it. I'm working on my backswing to stop the sway but most importantly to use the ground in the process. This is making me understand what my pro teacher is trying to tell me. I see also that while doing your backswing you are lifting up also, just what I need to achieve before working on my downswing (the squat and the pushing of the lead leg). Thanks again. Luc
This is great, as I understand everything moves before the club head, fast and strong with the legs, core, shoulders .. arms hands and club head follows naturally .. takes the mind of the small muscles. It s a weird feeling because the club feels soo loose at the top but then surprisingly the ball flight nicely and the swing is effortless.
As an handball overhand throwing coach its great you combine the golf swing with the old boring throwing mechanics! I can relate to this, not however the stationary Leadbetter videos! Great work !
Love it Marcus! In this past year you have influenced my golf swing positively more than any instructor I know. Wish I was in your country to come visit. Thanks a ton!
Marcus great video. I gave up golf for 12 years and I am trying to get back into it . My playing partners used to tell my I swung faster than my shadow. Hit it dead straight and long enough. I am now 70 yo. And hit my drive 250 yards. Dont need more than that
Awesome video I’ve been trying this and my ball striking seems to be the best it’s ever been ball then turf, the feeling like I’m getting taller and not purposely moving the arms in the back swing feels so natural and relaxed 👍🏻
This kind of excellent understanding and teaching of biomechanics is finally seeping into more facets of golf instruction thanks to folks like Marcus (there are others I could name but don't want to coopt Marcus' channel). Shifting my perspective to the golf swing always being in motion completely changed my game a couple of years ago. At this point, it's mostly about being obsessive about fundamentals for me (grip, posture, ball position, aim, and especially shoulder alignment) and short game work.
I’m going to spend the winter working on a faster backswing. I only hit 7 iron 150 yards. But I reckon I can gain 10-15 yards with a faster backswing. My swing compared to the pro’s is like slow motion. Got nothing to lose with all the rain my course will be closed till the clocks go forward anyway. Unfortunately I’m a member of a parkland golf course.
Ya know what it seems like. If seems like we should have been learning golf when we were six years old like playing baseball. These pros have been playing since those early years. But what happens is they teach us a different set of techniques than the ones they actually use because if everyone learned how to golf like hitting a baseball in their youth then where would these golf professional snobs be. This guy has really made me realize how rigged the system is with golf and all the misinformation we get about it to tap us for our money. This is the only golf technique that should be taught.
I've quoted you to a few people, 'you need to loose control of the arms to gain control of the swing' Eaisier said than done 😂😂😂 Ive used my arms to much in golf since I was a kid till I found u. I'm getting there but the arms keep creaping back into it and legs go quiet so this is yet another good vid for me to go and try out. I'm cusping, if that's the correct phrase.. It's like cod, I know I'm about to level up but I can't find the last piece of the puzzle 🏌️♀️
You'll get there with your own development I'm sure. I know the feeling of lightly telling struggling friends some of the Zen Tips , and even suggesting they watch the videos. Funny thing is they dont watch them or listen to the tips and all of them are struggling / getting worse.. Only so much you can do!! Thank god for marcus as I dread to think what my last 2 years of golf would have felt like without his methods
There's no particular swing model for a bad back as everybody has their own movement capability. The idea is that you explore using the exercises and find 'your' best way 👍
Same swing, its the alignment and the club face that dictates the where the ball starts and finishes, watch Bubba Watson hitting fades and draws on a demo day, the punters call out the shape ,Fade draw low high etc and he is nearly at the top of his backswing when they call it, ( thinking they are clever and trying to to get him tgo do it wrong) but he gets it every time,
@@grumpyoldgit8254 gotta check that out ! I,m new to this zen thing. If it can remove some of my over 300 swing thoughts, It would be GREAT! Going to stick with zen guru Dr Marcus for a while!
You always make it sound so very simple Marcus but the second we stand over that ball like you have said far too many thoughts into the mind and before you know it you’ve shanked it or hooked it or duffed it about 20 yards. My rounds are so inconsistent if my driver is good my second shot is horrendous if I do a good shot into a green my put is nowhere near I just can’t seem to get it all under control for a full round and it is so frustrating
@@GRFGolf yes I try every shot to go through what I learned in my lesson with yourself and sometimes all that goes out of the window. As you know Marcus I struggle with my back still awaiting spine surgery to fix the ongoing problem. Hoping that after the surgery I can make more consistent swings and put a full round together and start to bring the scoring down short game lets me down massively chipping and putting to be more precise I lose so many shots around and on the green just be so nice to get into the 90s every time I go out still loving everything you do the videos are brilliant keep it up Marcus and the team
@@richardsmith825 Best wishes with your physical problems. I just discovered Marcus. Sorry, that comes off a bit like Marco polo discovering north america ! But I think the zen part is to clear your mind and body of un necessary thoughts and movements, by cleaning up/simplifying the mechanics. Zen =Kiss, sorta. Any progress?
@@jmack619 yea I’m getting a lot better. Plenty of practice lately. Just have to be careful with my back. Don’t want to damage it any more than it is already.
well a ball isn't fuckin weirdly shaped like the golf club is, is it? and in tennis our backswing timing is based on how the ball bounces and approaches, yes? that's why golf is so fuckin mental...
The forward press is by far the best movement for me. If I don't utilize a forward press, I lose not only distance, but the quality of my swing suffers a bit.
I use a forward press as well, and that helps me get a longer backswing and gets me from trying to over control the backswing. When I do this I usually get a good result.
It makes sense that multiple coaches and scientists are arriving at these conclusions. It's all always been there, however the tools to accurately measure were not. The growth of long drive and the resulting analysis of swing speed generation have also been a driving factor in understanding how to move the body to produce functional task execution. And that's the key; folks are caught up in golf appearing to be a stationary sport, however when you return to the brain's focus on task execution everything starts to self-organize and fall into place naturally. This is why it's so important to focus the mind on the appropriate task. Think about getting your elbow into a specific position and you'l probably succeed . . . and strike the ball like hot garbage. Focus on hammering a nail through the back of the ball or sending it to a specific target or picture in your mind and your body is freed to accomplish the task. This is why the hula hoop drill Marcus sometimes uses to promote natural shot shaping works so well.
Another great video, I’ve tried all your drills on UA-cam, but always seem to have same habit, were as my wrist collapse and I hit a low hook, would be great full if you could give any tips to help this.🏌️♂️🏌️♂️🤞

Sam, Been doing the 1-2-3 drill to get momentum in the back swing as suggested. On 2 does the body move before the club swings back. Thank you.
