I am lucky enough to have seen Radiohead live three times, and I can say without question the bridge chorus of 'for a minute there, I lost myself...' in Karma Police sung by 200,000 people at Lollapalooza in Berlin is the best moment at a gig I have had the privilege of experiencing.

To hear this song as a casual listener did in 1997 you would have to realize that the internet (ISPs) had only existed for two years. It was mostly e-mails and people cybering on AOL chat. The west was in the middle of a golden age. The cold war had just ended. People in Russia were eating at McDonalds. The economy was booming and technology was going to solve all of our problems. Then comes this weird British indie band warning everyone that we are at risk of losing our humanity. Everyone was talking about the problems technology would solve. Nobody was talking about the problems it would create. This album is basically a testimony to a watershed moment in human evolution. The entire world had changed and nobody had realized it yet. Even the "weirdness" of the song structure seems like an attack on the verse/chorus/verse structure that pretty much every song on the planet had followed until that point. The small notes of feedback or going out of tune sound like a machine glitching out. A species that populated every continent on Earth, climbed Everest, and went to the moon now spends most of its time staring at a screen. The song airbag was about an article Thom read praising technology not an accident he was in.
@@fuckamericanidiot The band themselves said they were as shocked as anyone the album hit number 1. Love hearing your thoughts and seeing your reaction to this album - genuinely takes me back, man. As someone who graduated HS way back in '92 and was a Radiohead fan basically from Day 1, I remember when I first played an advance copy of OK Computer over the speakers inside the college record store where I was working at the time... All of the people in the store immediately stopped sifting through racks of CD's to listen to what was playing - trying to figure out what it was they were listening to. We didn't even have any copies to sell yet, but people were asking to buy it on the spot. It was something genuinely unique that we had never really heard at the time. To me, this album will always have a personal level of ground-breaking quality that will never get old.
Dude, I wanted to have a deep conversation about OK Computer with my friends, but they just don't loke Radiohead because it is so depressing. Hearing you overexplain everything is music to my ears, I love your vibe and I relate a lot with all the stuff that you are saying.
What i love about the dichotomy of Paranoid Android and Karma Police is that the former is about having anger towards the system and not being able to take that anger out on it, and the latter is about redirecting that anger and the exacerbated feelings of powerlessness towards his fellow man for these shallow and surface-level problems he has with them. The system protects itself by forcing those in it to fight amongst each other
Climbing up the walls is one of my favourite songs by them, it’s so extremely dark and i feel it so deeply having anxiety, it feels like my darkest moments

i've never listened to this album in full, not yet at least, and i have to say even just from what's played in this video, paranoid android seems like an amazing portrayal of paranoia and that paranoia leading to anger. i love it.
I’ve listened to this album more than any other album (multiple times a week for over 20 years) and it’s more meaningful to me Than any other album. Certainly I can appreciate others not liking this album (art is subjective) but I can’t understand anyone not respecting this album as great art.
Brad listening to Airbag like 8 times until he loves it was honestly me the first time I listened to the album. It took me about 4 full listens of the album for it to really click with me. I just kept thinking it was super dull and boring, and now I love it.

let down, i love love love that song I love the embedded melody in 'let down', the melody that goes with Tom's vocal, I start humming that melody as soon as the song starts before the melody is revealed. just like a beautifully emphasized sentence.
I know its been a bit so this comment probably won't be seen but as a radiohead fan it feels necessary. Thank you so much for dissecting it as you did. I too was similarly conflicted by airbag, that it would distance me a bit from the initial experience, that yes, I too in many ways preferred(and sometimes still do) Planet Telex. But you pressing forward and listening to it again and again and sharing what you discovered and felt, helped me feel the same and somehow even expanded this album even more for me. Thank you, I did not know that was possible as I already basically worshipped it but you really did bring it to somehow an even higher state. Thank you.

Easy Star All Stare did a fantastic reggae version of this album. It is so well done and still captures the angst of the original. The album is titled Radiodread.
to me the bends is a 7 and this is a 8.5 and in rainbows is a 10 if I would quantify my enjoyment of right now, but they were very important albums to me
Hey Brad, you look like you need a hug. Here's a hug 🤗❤️ Love you brother. Thank you for your amazing videos, it always makes me very happy to listen to my favourite albums "with" you, because you can vibe to the music just as hard as I do and because you are just as exited and nerdy about everything that happens in the songs. I am sending all the love & positivity in the world to you. ✨🌟 I really hope you're doing well these days 🙏🏻😊 And thank you again for your amazing videos.
I agree with some of your thoughts on Airbag. Didn’t quite grab me upon first listen the way Planet Telex did, but after several plays and hearing it within the album’s context (especially on headphones), it really pulled me in and makes perfect sense as the startling, uneasy opener. Thom also explained how on this record, and even more so with Kid A, the lyrics weren’t meant to be fully coherent because he’s just using his voice to convey a certain sound or mood. He was probably self-conscious about some of the words, so he wanted the attention diverted away from them
"we hope that you choke" sounds more like its being sang by the voices referring to thom who has escaped, hoping that he chokes on the low pressure of space
binging your Radiohead reaction series rn and your passion when talking about great music is genuinely so heartwarming.. that, your sense of humor, and general thoughtfulness + conscientious attitude has had me hooked on your vids since watching your black parade/three cheers reactions w my friends at the start of the pandemic ^_^ thank you brad Ü❤️ ( also I think if you ever make reaction vids to any elliot smith albums the world will explode but in a good way 😼 )

What a joy it is to hear you describe these songs
I can't even explain what this album means to me, every single song makes me feel so nostalgic for some reason. In rainbows is my favorite from radiohead but the way I felt the first time I listened to ok computer has no comparison
I'm amazed that i survived, Bradley saved my life
5 minutes in and already a fuckin fantastic video, I love the way you explain the songs and album, you have definitely evolved, since your earlier videos
Oh and no surprises is gunna fuck us all uppp😂
Oddly, “Lucky” to me always sounded like it was the one song on Ok Computer that could have been on The Bends.
Except the synths and the whole ambience is in a higher level.
The 'aahhs' on Karma Police are indeed my favorite as well and I am happy to hear someone else say that.
Gotta love seeing the description. All of the tracks are favorites, no "worsts", and 10/10. All is right with the world. :)
let down is my favorite song ever omfg
@Ze • i don’t use ig ever but i use discord and tiktok!!
'Airbag' is my favorite of all their openers. One of their more "epic" tunes.
Brad, you're a fucking life-saver. I haven't listened to this album in years and it's high time to remedy that!
I don’t think that there are a lot of albums that are great from start to finish where every song is great but this is definitely one of them.
my thoughts exactly. its actually hard to believe that this album was made by people. its too perfect. its too big.

Let Down has a bit of hope in it as well no? "One day I am gonna grow wings"
damn Brad, you actually is able to sing quite nicely, you almost sang the "rain down" part almost in pitch
I really hope you tackle the first 4 (perhaps 5) Modest Mouse LPs someday. (LP2 is my favourite) - They have some fucking great EPs as well.
Sharing Radiohead with a fascinating stranger is one of life's... true delights!
I really liked this type of video, not first reaction, more of revisit. I think i felt the same about the album before the video, love it and have listened to it a million times so we came in pretty much on the same page, so i could relate to your thoughts and that was pretty cool
i've never listened to this album in full, not yet at least, and i have to say even just from what's played in this video, paranoid android seems like an amazing portrayal of paranoia and that paranoia leading to anger. i love it.
I’ve listened to this album more than any other album (multiple times a week for over 20 years) and it’s more meaningful to me Than any other album. Certainly I can appreciate others not liking this album (art is subjective) but I can’t understand anyone not respecting this album as great art.
drg
Brad listening to Airbag like 8 times until he loves it was honestly me the first time I listened to the album. It took me about 4 full listens of the album for it to really click with me. I just kept thinking it was super dull and boring, and now I love it.
*The Bends* "This is such a huge style change"
*OK Computer:* "What an immediate tone change"
Just wait till he gets to Kid A, oh boy
He’s already heard it lol
"I'm baaack to say the n...... n-word"

HE FINALLY RELEASED THE OK CUMPEWTER REACTION, NOW MY LIFE IS COMPLETE
When I listened to Airbag in the very first time I imagined Thom walking on some road in winter and whining at the camera💀
was wondering if this album was any good. i should probably check it out
Yeah man I think I'll check it out too it seems okay
This is the best analysis of this album I've ever seen. Great video Brad.
i've been absolutely loving this series and loving what you have to say! your breakdowns and opinions of the music are just so intelligent and appreciative of the art--i can really tell how much passion you have for music. i hope you continue doing series like these with other artists!!!
The opening note of airbag excites me more than anything in music - probably because I know The journey I’m about to go on
Came out 30 seconds ago so no in human history has seen the whole video but I'm sure it'll be great
let down, i love love love that song
I love the embedded melody in 'let down', the melody that goes with Tom's vocal, I start humming that melody as soon as the song starts before the melody is revealed. just like a beautifully emphasized sentence.
Thank you.
11:38 “Stephen Hawking… hehehe”
Literally the perfect description for this era of Radiohead’s career
@everyone let's write a bunch of comments under this video to trigger the UA-cam algorithm. This is the best fucking OK COMPUTER-reaction I've ever seen and Brad really deserves to go viral with it 🙏🏻
(Maybe also share to empty group chats and friends who might be interested, I think shares play a big role in YT-recommendations)
I have a recording of Karma Police with the entire crowd singing "For a minute there I lost myself" from when I saw them live
The comparison of this album with Death Note makes so much sense now.
Very thorough. I love it. Thanks for all of your energy and focus!
Easy Star All Stare did a fantastic reggae version of this album. It is so well done and still captures the angst of the original.
The album is titled Radiodread.
Love for you to do this sort of series with more artists. Great content!
17:04 what you know about rollin down in the deep
Paranoid Android broke me the first time I heard it... Hauntingly beautiful track
Pablo Honey is a 5, The Bends is a an 8, maybe an 8.5, this shit is a masterpiece, a fucking 10.
to me the bends is a 7 and this is a 8.5 and in rainbows is a 10
if I would quantify my enjoyment of right now, but they were very important albums to me
@@victorthiago5115 you are really deaf if you think this is a 8.5 when is a perfect 10
if this is a 10, then Kid A is a 10.1
Hey Brad, you look like you need a hug.
Here's a hug 🤗❤️
Love you brother.
Thank you for your amazing videos, it always makes me very happy to listen to my favourite albums "with" you, because you can vibe to the music just as hard as I do and because you are just as exited and nerdy about everything that happens in the songs.
I am sending all the love & positivity in the world to you. ✨🌟
I really hope you're doing well these days 🙏🏻😊
And thank you again for your amazing videos.
This is by far your best video. Need to see part 2
Exit Music was actually written for the movie Romeo & Juliet
I agree, first time I heard Subterranean Homesick Alien, I felt my soul just got lifted from my body, I felt like I was ascended.
binging your Radiohead reaction series rn and your passion when talking about great music is genuinely so heartwarming.. that, your sense of humor, and general thoughtfulness + conscientious attitude has had me hooked on your vids since watching your black parade/three cheers reactions w my friends at the start of the pandemic ^_^ thank you brad Ü❤️ ( also I think if you ever make reaction vids to any elliot smith albums the world will explode but in a good way 😼 )
Perfect album, musically, thematically + b-sides tracks (polyethylene/pearly/melatonin) are truly gorgeous songs, which unfortunately underrated.
Airbag sounds like it would be an anime opening. I seriously cannot not think of that every time I hear it
THIS
17:22 I think you mean he’s like an astronaut in the ocean
I'm sorry to break it to ya, but Subterranean Home Sick Alien is basically a synonym for Astronaut In The Ocean title-wise 💀
They really did predict the future😀
They were rolling down in the deep for 20+ years...
I wish you kept that thought to yourself
it's a play on a johnny cash song
I love the way you see things and the way you express your opinion and feelings about music.
You know your stuff.
What I love about this album is its progressiveness which seems to derrive from genuine playful experimentation rather than pretentious planning, although it leaves one hanging a bit on that distinction, really
