And, as the disc is musically colorful, and lyrically it's mildly uplifting, this postmodern Faust asks to not being sad by his lost, but to be grateful for all the beauty he has seen and acknowledged (the ripples separating on a blank shore from Reckoner, each people being a different experience, this giving color the world, forming a rainbow with all those experiences). For he is, in those last moments of his life, remembering the most beautiful day he has ever seen. I've been gradually coming around to this album, but I like the other albums more because they're layered around the entire composition. This album is largely just having something to harmonize over, which I get from every artist.
interesting to hear Brad's comments on Reckoner and its similarity to Kid A, i personally always thought it was one of the more conventional Radiohead songs as it follows an incredibly common chord progression etc, amazing song though just never reminded me of Kid A. In Rainbows for sure best RH album!
I don't understand about the whole "lyrical inconsistencies" argument you had there at the end, sure at some spots it does feel like some songs are lyrically crafted better than others but i think the main focus of the album comes down to just how beautiful, sharp, and magnificent the melodies and atmosphere is. And while we're in the topic of lyrics, bro you literally gave kid A a perfect score even though theres literally a few songs there that doesnt mean a single thing (even though i love the album too). Sorry if i came off a bit whiny in the comment, just thought it was weird of you to come off as nitpicky at the end there. Much love Brad
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with your comment at all. I know the internet is full of horrible little gremlin trolls but you’re allowed to make a critique and not have to apologise mid criticism to point out the fact that you’re not trying to be a dick. Don’t worry about it man you’re good!
Nice Moon Shaped Pool profile pic, so far the only Radiohead album I've listened to and I think it's fantastic, I'm gonna dive into their earlier stuff too.
Hail To The Thief felt like pretty much what it was, an album to finish the record label contract - this one feels so much more relaxed, likely because they felt more freedom to do what they wanted after the record label kicked back over Kid A/Amnesiac.
What makes house of cards so great to me is its sense of space. Between the lyrics there's more time than you'd usually expect. Its like the song has been stretched out. It is kinda repetitive, but i feel like it adds to the vibe
Would highly recommend checking out their In Rainbows: Live from the Basement set. Weird Fishes somehow sounds even more beautiful and immersive than the album version
I really love Videotape and there's one version that is more energetic (the Bonnaroo 2006 one) and if you wanna cry you should listen to the album version but if you wanna cry and dance listen to the other one
(at 1:10) I had the same feeling as you with that part of all i need when i first heard it. but now i like it because it seems to put the focus a lot more on the lyrics, which are absolutely incredible.
Everytime i listen to In Rainbows and MSP i think of them as an oposite of each other, both of them end on a beutifully Sad song that give More Sense to the rest of the tracks.
Brad new AnCo album got announced and new single is based. If that, the new BCNR album and the 4 season Weezer albums are good then 2022 might even be better than this year
PLEASE do a react to In Rainbows Disc 2. I bought the collectors edition when they released the album and honestly it was worth it exclusively for that disc.
I’m really interested to hear your thoughts on The King Of Limbs. I personally love it, sometimes more than I love In Rainbows, but there are many people who rank it next to Pablo Honey. It’s kinda similar to Kid A, where on the first listen it sounds really odd, but then it gets much better with time.
Yeah dude, Videotape is like the song version of withering away from a horrible disease but trying to stay hopeful as your partner can do nothing but watch and love you as much as they can before you're gone, and then you die on Christmas morning. Shit fucks me up man.
I'd recommend listening to reckoner a lil bit more to really absorb it. I think it's an incredible and unique track. About 10 years ago I made up the plot to a fake zombie movie and made a mix of songs that would be the soundtrack to it. Reckoner was the last song. Lol. Something about it made me think of the dawn breaking and feeling grief but at the same time being so grateful that you're alive.
For anyone wondering, he has listened to all of the albums on Twitch, but for some reason didn't upload the rest on UA-cam I only remember, that Brad didn't really like The King Of Limbs and AMSP was good
Whenever this came out reckoner was not near the top as far as songs on the album are concerned. But now it is probably a top 5 Radiohead song for me. God this album is amazing. In my opinion their most beautiful and mature album.
People say house of cards is the worst song on the album? No way, easily one of my favorites on the album. I dont know how else to describe it and it will probably sound weird but that song, especially when listening to it at night really makes me feel like im in my own world. So cool. Every time i hear the song it really has an effect on me like almost no other song
You ever heard the original version of Reckoner? The one with the subtitle "Pulled Apart by Horses". That song has come a longer way than any other of their songs, somewhat in terms of time but absolutely in terms of how much it's changed. So much so that at one point the band called it "officially dead" (it got resurrected I guess).
Great review, but wait, Nigel Godrich produced this album! The band has ton of input and control I'm sure, but Godrich is an amazing producer, just had to say that after hearing you say "self produced" a few times. Great channel, thanks for posting.

Oh Brad me and my friends were expecting this reaction.
¡Greetings from Argentina!
I wish they put bangers and mash on this album, that b-side is straight FIRE
Where would it come in the album tho?
where would you put it tho - as is, the album flows perfectly
@@Robersora thank you for asking the same thing
@@BandCalledTheSleep if this was genuine: no problem
if this was passive aggressive: your comment wasn't yet displayed when I typed mine
You could drop it in at track 2 and it would flow perfectly in from 15 step and out to Bodysnatchers I feel.
Something bout the way the guitar sounds on House of Cards got me feeling happy yet extremely melancholic
House of Cards is probably in the middle of the road for this album and it's still a strong 9/10. That's how brilliant In Rainbows is.
the first time i heard jigsaw falling into place i listened to it like 20 times in a row i was mind blown
Reckoner is one of my favourites honestly
same
Likewise bruh :)

hi
hi
It's such a good feeling when you know that there is someone in a universe who can dive deep into Radiohead and feel a lot..
ayo we gonna get more o this series? this shit so fun bruh come back
Every song on this album is the best song on the album
Nice Moon Shaped Pool profile pic, so far the only Radiohead album I've listened to and I think it's fantastic, I'm gonna dive into their earlier stuff too.
Hail To The Thief felt like pretty much what it was, an album to finish the record label contract - this one feels so much more relaxed, likely because they felt more freedom to do what they wanted after the record label kicked back over Kid A/Amnesiac.
what happened to this series? i really wanted to see an amsp reaction
I lovvve Faust Arp. The harmonies are beautiful
Cmon Brad where the King Of Limbs reaction at
THE BEAT GOES ROUND AND ROOOOOOOO
I could never understand saying tkol is worse Pablo. Pablo has 3 decent-good songs. TKOL has 8 good-amazing songs and 6 great b sides.
Very Happy we got to see you experience the genius of Videotape in reaction form. My favorite song of all time
Yeah dude, Videotape is like the song version of withering away from a horrible disease but trying to stay hopeful as your partner can do nothing but watch and love you as much as they can before you're gone, and then you die on Christmas morning.
For anyone wondering, he has listened to all of the albums on Twitch, but for some reason didn't upload the rest on UA-cam
I only remember, that Brad didn't really like The King Of Limbs and AMSP was good
Whenever this came out reckoner was not near the top as far as songs on the album are concerned. But now it is probably a top 5 Radiohead song for me. God this album is amazing. In my opinion their most beautiful and mature album.
It grew on me through the years too. I found the tambourine excessive and annoying at first, and it ruined the song for me. Not anymore, heh.
Jigsaw Falling Into Place is fucking incredible, favourite radiohead song for sure
Reckoner is my favorite track on this album.
Every damn song on this album is a fucking banger. Fuck, even the B-Sides are great, too.
House of Card is probably my favorite Radiohead song. I love it so much.
The warm welcoming piano chords in Reckoner really hit🤤
Brad where’s king of limbs
People actually dislike House of Cards?
5:50 for testing surround system speakers I use the glowing man but for bass testing I use the grudge by tool
Love your reaction to Videotape especially. it does that to me every time.
"lyrics are a bit scattered"
(album is called in rainbows)
-brad, 2021 probably
You ever heard the original version of Reckoner? The one with the subtitle "Pulled Apart by Horses". That song has come a longer way than any other of their songs, somewhat in terms of time but absolutely in terms of how much it's changed. So much so that at one point the band called it "officially dead" (it got resurrected I guess).
Great review, but wait, Nigel Godrich produced this album! The band has ton of input and control I'm sure, but Godrich is an amazing producer, just had to say that after hearing you say "self produced" a few times. Great channel, thanks for posting.
house of cards is the best engineered song radiohead ever did. do a close listen to all the insane shit thats happening in the background during the verses and let someone tell me otherwise.
Here's what I noticed:
15 steps sounds like Weird Fishes.
Nude sounds like All I Need.
Body snatchers sounds like Jigsaw Falling into Place.
Faust Arp sounds like Videotape.
Reckoner sounds like House of Cards.
Radiohead sounds like Radiohead.
I've noticed that you're really fast with your content lately! Seems like a healthy place to be in, so I'm happy for you, keep it up:)
In Rainbows wasn't self produced, it was produced by their long time producer, Nigel Godrich.
Yeah.. the same producer since the 90s. Really weird that he keeps saying In Rainbows is "self produced" (?)
@@crabfaced yeah, think he got it mixed up with self released
Im so glad someone else likes House Of Cards as much as me :)
