I want to thank you and other creators for having these EXTREMELY helpful videos, because of your and other videos I was able to successfully change the suspension on my sisters charger. Thanks for giving me the confidence with your helpful videos to help out my family and get comfortable working on cars.
I had to replace some suspension parts on my charger and forgot the bushings. My wife said it was making a clunking noise and I thought I forgot to tighten the bolts in the caliper bracket. I must have taken it off twice and googled it a ton when I hit on your video. I'm literally laying under the car now and I can see the play in the bushing. I should have seen this video an hour ago and saved myself time and aggravation. Great job on the video. Very helpful.
I really enjoyed what you say in this video. Some people are annoying , but you’re not one of them. Good stories and a great attitude. Keep up the good work, my friend.
You definitely cannot please everyone. Just do you! I appreciate your sense of humor and the ease in which you approach the repairs. I am a DIY and find these type of videos very helpful to avoid issues. Keep up the good work.
dude great video i have the same niose that just occured on my dodge charger and you saved me about 2 hours of labor charges thanks dude 20 dollar fix awesome bro
Talk, because what you are saying, explains any questions we might have. Thanks for the tutorial brother. I appreciate your time and energy in making this video.
I had to replace the sway bar bushings on my daughters 300. They had a few different sizes. I measured the bar and it took the 1 inch bushings. The bushings the prior owner put on were the wrong size. Replacing those stopped some noise but I need to replace more parts to stop those crazy clunks and creeks the suspension makes. One noise was the spindle with no grease in the fittings. Once greased the creeking noise stopped. People if you're car has grease fittings anywhere on it....put grease in 'em.
Thanks bro u just saved me hundreds of dollars. I have theee same EXTRACT problem. I just came to the conclusion 2 days ago that I needed links. But I never thought about the bushings. I had this car for almost a year and just now finding a solution. U got a Sub from me.
If you have tried everything and still have a clunking sound when going over bumps, then take a look at your transmission's mounting bracket. It may be the problem. It was in my case. I had been chasing the cause of the clunking noise when going over bumps for months. I changed the strut assemblies, the sway bar bushings, the sway bar links, the lower forward facing control arm, and the lower rear facing control arms. I changed all those components and still had the problem. I looked all over the web for a solution, but could not find anything that I hadn't tried. Ultimately, I put the car on a lift and started examining the car from underneath with a pry bar and was shocked to see that the transmission mounting bracket was broken. It was a mess. It was still in place, but in 3 pieces. I must have wacked the tar out of it sometime in the past and not examined it properly. When going over bumps, the clunk was awful and loud. Swapped it out and it's like a whole new car. Finally. Good Luck.
Hi truly enjoyed your video and please continue to talk which means walk us thru each step you take, I have learned a lot from your video and I was having the same exact problem, now I can say problem solved. Thank you I wish I could bring my car to you to fix.
this video was great and very helpful. Exact same sound coming from my charger and this was the fix. Very happy Charger owner here. Was able to do it without disconnecting the sway bar links
Thanks for the video..I have to replace the same bushings, and didn't know where to start...now I can do it !!...awesome explanation on how to remove them !
I searched through many videos to cure my "Clunking" noise. I too thought that it may be my Struts, but was very pleased to find your video with the overwritten video "CLUNKING". I checked it out and found it was the exact video I needed. Maybe you should also title this link as "Clunking" as others are out there may be looking/searching for answers to a Clunking Noise. Thank you for your great comment. I'm pleased to see that the video helped You ! I have another video titled as clunking I believe. That video is specifically about end links and sway bar bushings. I believe it's on a Chevy HHR
Great and informative. I have an 06 Chrysler 300. Changed almost everything so far. Still clunking. I'll give this a go. looks straightforward. thanks Nick
Hey thanks for this video - I am going to have to change the sway bar bushings asap - Don’t let negative comments discourage you, you’re creating useful and informative content. Cheers
This video helped me out a lot when I got my charger and didn't know where the noise was coming from.. Its been about a year and still no cluncking....thanks bro
great vid, commentary and stories! -- "invisible lube" "trunk peripherals" -- all great! about to change struts on my charger and will check the stabilizer bar and sway bar bushing.
Great Video! Just today, I went to the passenger side of the sway bar bushing, and had to re thread the hole due to almost stripping. 1 year ago I replaced the sway bar bushing's on the front sway bar, and I got the drivers side sway bar bolts in fine, but the passenger side needed a lot of pressure to hold it all together, and screw in the bolts that hold it without stripping, or cross threading them. I cross threaded the upper bolt, could only get it halfway in, and left it. 1 year later, today I looked at it again, and couldn't leave it like that. So I went under there, and took out both bolts, used a ratchet to get them in with out cross threading them, and used my channel locks to hold it together long enough for me to thread the lower one in. Lining the bracket against the frame, and lining up the outer bracket , and then I tightened one bolt a little, then the other, and back and forth slightly so they tightened evenly. Glad I got it right! Had been in the back of my mind for a year.
This is the perfect video! Just bought a charger R/T, and of course it has the infamous clinking sound. Was about to go buy new shocks, and feared it could be most of the suspension! Thank you so much!
Thank you for the step by step. And hearing your thought process helps me to understand some of the interdependencies. Some of your comments are wisdom and some are knowledge.
I replace all the suspension on my 2005 magnum but the struts and the stabilizer bar bushings. The sound when i hit a bump or a hole is incredible. It sounds like is going to fall a part. I checked the strut and they are tight. Tomorrow I'm installing the bushings on the bar 🤞
thanks for this video man, dealer wanted to charge me $300 to change 1 end link and bushing and I can do both on the front end for under $75 and like an hour of my time.
Dude! Thanks you have no idea how frustrated I already was, I replaced the tie rods, sway bar links, wheel bearing and nothing! Till I watched this video last night, and replaced the sway bar bushing today and guess what! Problem solved thanks bro.
Dope vid! I have a 18 Charger R/T, 30k miles. It feels like I have excessive body roll and it doesn’t handle bumps well at all. I drove another Charger, same trim and mileage and it drove WAY better. I’m lost.... great video again bro!
What was wrong with your car? I have a 2010 r/t and having issues when I go over a pot hole. The rear of the car kind of jolts to the right fast. It’s currently at the shop now and they are not sure what’s causing it but said that the bushings are shredded and needs to be replaced so it mag be the cause. Shocks and springs are fine they said.
great video man, i have a charger and after watching this video i suspect i need to change the same bushings. and keep talking it makes the video much better. very informative im def gonna subscribe
Thanks for not deleting that part! Keep it real 👍 nice work! But as mechanics there are too many things we don't understand about certain customer tendencies lol
Aye, do you. I appreciate the audio directions. You said this ain't no diy video but it us for me. In fact one of the only videos i could find on the stablizer bar for my rt and mine is a 14. Same set up so I'm using the This to get my work done. Share your story time, give us the updates on your tools (i wanted to hear that also) the hard and easy way. Just do you, i was learning with it all. I appreciate your work.
Thanks so much I was about to buy the struts and have a friend install them but now I’m gonna wait till he can look at it close and see if this is my problem. Is there anyway I could tell myself? He’s always tied up.
Look under the car with a flash light. If there's ANY gap between the bushing and the sway bar then they need replacing. Also check the stabilizer links
Great video. To remove the link without a vice grip, just put a box end on the nut and put your impact on hex on the tip of the threaded part. Just remember to put your impact on tighten because you are effectively spinning from the reverse side.
Thanks for the video, I purchased a Maxjax lift cause I have 8 foot ceiling , you should get one with all that work you do , you sure can use it .. or even the harbor freight scissor lift ..👍
Small tip: the bushing covers you can just unbolt the bottom part and move it out of the way because that thing is as tick and strong as a a tuna can lid. It will prevent you from going under the car , more specifically under the rotor.
Just fixed an annoying clunk when quickly turning at low speeds in our 2012 Charger. There are steel rings or guards on the sway bars that center the bar between the rubber bushing mounts. They were too far apart, causing these guard rings (on the right side in my case) to hit the steel bushing mount when the car is side loaded. Took a drift punch and hammer, knocked it inboard a bit and reinstalled the new bushings. No more clunk! Check these steel guard retainer rings (whatever they're called...) if they're crushing the bushings and/or hitting the mounts.
Thanks for the video. I have the same noise on my 2015 Charger RT Road and Track Package. I will be looking at the bushings because I have been considering changing the struts. By the way, if you rapped, you would sound like SLIM SHADY! LOL! Thanks for the video, I appreciate it!
The mech a nic right I just talked to someone at Home Depot who said the same exact thing, maybe after I break bolts lose can use it to loosen it the rest of the way, but not for the traditional use of an impact. Since I’m not going to be using it that often I’ll just have to go the old school way, elbow grease and patience.
I have the same problem! I must have replaced my struts three times already !! (under warranty, but still) I'm definitely gonna try this, im sure its it.
Do you remember if the metal ring that is around the sway bar, to the inner side of the bushing, was welded in place or was it free floating on the sway bar? Thanks.
Very nice video I just did the sway bar bushings on my 2006 Charger for the 4th time yesterday. I think you got the wrong MOOG bushing part number. The first Gen Chargers have 25, 27 or 30 mm bars. That car you have is a v6 car I can tell by the smaller single piston calipers on front. That should be a 25 mm bar. The V8 Cars and the cars with the Touring Suspension had a 27 mm bar (and a rear bar, the car you worked on probably has no rear bar). The cars equipped with the AWT sales code (Daytonas and R/T R&T package cars) came with a 30 mm bar. The SRTs often came with 27mm but some had 30 mm. The part number you showed was for the 27 mm bushing that's why it was so loose on that 25 mm bar. I had new instructions in my MOOG bushings that said to tap those retaining rings in 1/4 inch inward. Makes sense they are much wider and always crushed up to the retaining ring on the bar before when snugged down to the full 44 foot pounds.
You are correct. K201617 is for 1.06” sway bar K201616 is for 1.00” sway bar (the one for this car) .06” difference probably won’t be an issue, but will wear out faster.
HAHAHA people complaining - time to thin the herd buddy. You do awesome videos and I think you are by far one of the best on youtube I watch even better than Chrisfix . Ok Chrisfix is not an automotive chanell - more like a automotive like channel but you're definitely a real automotive channel. 👍👍
Damn bro where have you been for the last couple weeks. Already replaced shocks, upper control arms, and nothing was about to order tie rods but this sounds like exactly what my Charger is doing. Nice video bro new subscriber with this one.
I found it way easier to detach the end link and slide the bushings all the way into place I changed the bushings on my 300c and they only lasted 6 months, on further investigation the stabilizer bar is corroded where the bushing sits, acting like sand paper. Good luck getting a replacement bar from Chrysler, no stock! I may try sanding the rust and coat it with epoxy.
@@themechanic6117 I am trying to get a new Bar from Eibach here in Canada. Pedders makes one in The USA but they want $215.00 for shipping. I may try to get a stock bar from a wrecker and try my Idea of using Epoxy to restore the diameter, If I do I will let you know.
Where are you located I have a 2006 srt8 Chrysler and I have a clunk issue change what you did in the video and still makes noise help will be nice thanks
The front of my charger is slightly lower than the rear, and it rides pretty rough and definitely has some clunking. At 150k miles, what do you think it could be?
Any idea how you would fix the hole? The bolt snapped and a guy tried drilling it out and using a easy out but none of that worked and the hole is a little messed up ?
9:07 Personally, I would skip on the power ratchet and just use my M18 Milwaukee impact (with a swivel extension if need be) for taking bold fasteners off.
I have a 2011 charger with a VERY similar sound. I replaced both lower control arms/ball joints, and it didn’t change a thing. After seeing this video I think this may be my problem! Going to try your fix and see how it goes
The mech a nic So I changed out the bushings and sway bar link today but the clunking hasn’t changed at all. If you don’t mind me asking, what is your next guess as to what the issue is? My charger only has 68k miles. Passenger side, mainly going straight or turning left. When I turn right I barely hear it, if at all. I’m down to basically 3 things I haven’t replaced yet. Tie rods + ball joint, upper control arm + ball joint, and finally, the strut itself. It’s really been depressing spending so much time and the problem isn’t changing with new parts installed. Thank you very much
The mech a nic I am going to replace the sway bar bushings on my Mazda 3.. this video definitely helped regardless of the fact it’s a different car. Thanks man!
I have the same clunking noise an everyone says my struts but when I push down on the driver's side it's firm so I'm wondering if that's the problem the stabilizer bar

What adapter set are you using to get those impact sockets on that Milwaukee? I’ve got a 1/4” hex Milwaukee impact, will that work?
The impact I'm using has a 3/8 anvil on it. There's adapters to put a 3/8 socket on the 1/4 hex but idk if that gun has enough power to do the job

That all makes sense , i did not know about the different sizes available. So im not crazy, i did think it fit a little too loose
You are correct.
K201617 is for 1.06” sway bar
K201616 is for 1.00” sway bar (the one for this car)
.06” difference probably won’t be an issue, but will wear out faster.
Thank you !!!! Very informative!!!
Thanks, means a lot to me 👍 for every one that you lose 50 more subscribe...so bye 😂
I'm keep it short and say I appreciate this video A++
Thank you 👍
Damn bro where have you been for the last couple weeks. Already replaced shocks, upper control arms, and nothing was about to order tie rods but this sounds like exactly what my Charger is doing. Nice video bro new subscriber with this one.
Hopefully it fixes your car 👍make sure to measure your sway bar to order the correct bushings.
u are right about the talking thing bro. Do your thing cos u cant satisfy every body. Nice one
Thank you
I can't do the patreon as I am currently underemployed but you get a thumbs up and a sub. Thank you for the vid.
No problem. Thanks for watching
Best video ever thank you VERY MUCH
I found it way easier to detach the end link and slide the bushings all the way into place I changed the bushings on my 300c and they only lasted 6 months, on further investigation the stabilizer bar is corroded where the bushing sits, acting like sand paper. Good luck getting a replacement bar from Chrysler, no stock! I may try sanding the rust and coat it with epoxy.
You're correct. The rust on the bar act like sand paper. This is why new bushings dont last long.
Great video i appreciate it , going threw same bs with my 2009
would replacing the sway bar itself come with the sway bar links and bushings or is that different parts?
Usually everything is sold separately
Where are you located I have a 2006 srt8 Chrysler and I have a clunk issue change what you did in the video and still makes noise help will be nice thanks
The front of my charger is slightly lower than the rear, and it rides pretty rough and definitely has some clunking. At 150k miles, what do you think it could be?
Any idea how you would fix the hole? The bolt snapped and a guy tried drilling it out and using a easy out but none of that worked and the hole is a little messed up ?
Can you do this with the car on a ramp, or does have to be off the ground?
To get to the sway bar links you'll want the wheels off
@themechanic6117 thanks
Nice video amigo thanks l really like the wey you work in the car
Thank you
Thanx for the video. Useful and funny.
Thanks for watching
Great video, now going to check mine tomorrow
Good luck.thanks for watching
Thanks for the video. very helpful. Going to do this to my charger. 2010.
Thanks for watching
Good video bro. And be careful with the impact because the bolts welded to the frame will break easily👍🏾 I have an 07 charger myself .. good job!!
Thanks for the tip

Personally, I would skip on the power ratchet and just use my M18 Milwaukee impact (with a swivel extension if need be) for taking bold fasteners off.
I have a 2011 charger with a VERY similar sound. I replaced both lower control arms/ball joints, and it didn’t change a thing. After seeing this video I think this may be my problem! Going to try your fix and see how it goes
Good luck! Its a very common problem on these cars 👍
The mech a nic Thank you sir. I’m considering using the thermoplastic bushing instead of the rubber ones, do you have any experience with those?
Yes I've used them before. Havent seen any problems come from them . they may last longer also
The mech a nic Right on, thanks for the replies
The mech a nic So I changed out the bushings and sway bar link today but the clunking hasn’t changed at all. If you don’t mind me asking, what is your next guess as to what the issue is?
My charger only has 68k miles. Passenger side, mainly going straight or turning left. When I turn right I barely hear it, if at all. I’m down to basically 3 things I haven’t replaced yet. Tie rods + ball joint, upper control arm + ball joint, and finally, the strut itself.
It’s really been depressing spending so much time and the problem isn’t changing with new parts installed.
Thank you very much
Great video. Loved the stories
Thank you
I enjoyed this video! Especially story time! That was great!
Lol thank you
The mech a nic I am going to replace the sway bar bushings on my Mazda 3.. this video definitely helped regardless of the fact it’s a different car. Thanks man!
Of course. Clunking from worn out sway bar bushings applies to pretty much any car 👍
I love your videos bud bro thanks
I have the same clunking noise an everyone says my struts but when I push down on the driver's side it's firm so I'm wondering if that's the problem the stabilizer bar
The bushings are a common problem and the parts are cheap. I'd start there
great job bud keep it up.
Thank you
