Thank you so much! I appreciate that more than you know. Keep practicing and don’t give up! You can do it!! If you have any questions, I’m always here to answer them. Thank you for your wonderful comment. 😇🙏🏼
I luv your pep talk about not giving up. It took me 7 years of trying & giving up crocheting before it all finally clicked with me. I luv it now & I’m glad I stuck with it. It gives me so much joy to make things for others and it is so self calming to work on my projects 💕
Awe! Thank you! Yeah, my mom and daughter were always trying and giving up, so this channel was made for people that struggle with crochet. So, I felt the need to give that pep talk. LOL. I’m glad you’re enjoying crochet so much now!! That’s awesome!! I’ll also be teaching knitting in January.. so if you’re interested... ☺️
After a week of trying different yarn and hooks I finally got the hang of it. Thank you for believing in me and the encouragement. I’m so proud. My guest project is perfect because if you. ❤
That’s amazing!!! I’m so happy for you! Feels good, right?! I wish you the absolute best with crochet, and check out some of the other beginner projects when you’re ready!! You’re doing so good!
Awe!! You’re a sweetheart! I have kids older than you, so I can be your crochet mom. LOL. I’m so glad this video helped you. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask here! 🥰
Thank you so much!! That’s one of my very first videos.. my third, I think. LOL. I appreciate that. I also hope you continue to check out more of my tutorials. This channel was designed with beginners in mind. Have a wonderful day!
That’s amazing!! I’m so glad you found crochet!! It’s very easy to get addicted to, but it’s the perfect addiction. Thanks so much for trying out this little hat. When you are more comfortable with your stitches, make sure to check back to my other projects! Lots of easy stuff for beginners in there. 🥰 Happy Crocheting!!
Awe!! 🥺 Thank you Valerie! That’s so sweet! I’m so glad you were able to follow this video and worked out a hat with it! That’s outstanding!! Keep crocheting!! You got this! 💗
I love this ! You do a great job with directions. I learned the single stitch many years ago but past 20 yrs or so stopped because of problems of crocheting causing my arms to hurt. I am determined to learn to crochet well. My arms still hurt but I take it slow and ice afterwards. I am SO excited I made this !. My mother used to crochet everything that could be crocheted and my sister got good at it too. They both made baby hats to donate to hospitals. And I am thrilled that I can continue the family tradition now that they are not around to do so. Thank you so very, very much for making these videos and I look forward to continue to progress along with them.
You are such a sweetheart! Thank you! I am so glad this tutorial was helpful to you. It’s awesome that you will be making hats to donate! As you progress, I invite you to check out some of my other beginner videos as well so you can continue to advance. Practice as much as you can and also try this video as well.. it shows ways to hold your hook. The way we hold our hook can sometime cause arm fatigue or soreness. See if this works for you. 😇 Many blessings! ua-cam.com/video/OemaO9SmIaA/v-deo.html
Have you tried propping pillows to rest your arms. I get this thing that makes my arms feel really heavy. But after I am able to rest my arms. It helps.
Thank you, I like the way you explain. Now I have to learn the way your way of crocheting.I’m an elderly and it’s my first to learn this and I think it’s fun. Thank you 🙏😊 again. I also want to learn how to make a bigger hat for my 4year old grandson . This one you made, I’ll make this for my new granddaughter that was just born couple days ago. Thank you 🙏 very very much..
Well thank you so much! I really appreciate that! This hat can be adapted to fit any size. If you are familiar with measuring with a fabric measuring tape, it will be easy to get the measurement for any size head. You'll want a measurement of height and circumference. So for height, you will want to measure from the middle of the top of the head to just below the top of the ear. (If you want cuff, measure to the earlobe). That measurement will be how long of a chain you will make. Then you will want to do the measurement around the head from one of the ears all the way around back to that same ear. That measurement will be how many rows you will need in the hat. I would leave at least one row out though, because the yarn will stretch, so if the measurement is calling for 30 rows, only make 29. This way the hat isn't too big. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching and for your wonderful comment. I hope you have a great day and happy crocheting!
Thank you so much I am a beginner and I am going to try and make this Hat. You are just a wonderful Instructor thank you. I look forward to more project from you.
Hi there!! I am so glad you enjoyed this video! I started this channel to help beginners, so I’m really glad you found my channel!! Enjoy, and I hope you stick with it and make lots of amazing things!!
Awe! I’m so glad to hear this! Thank you! This is one of my oldest videos, before the channel got better and I had new equipment. I appreciate you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the tutorial. As you get more and more comfortable with crochet, I invite you to check out some of my other beginner videos. There is a playlist specifically for beginners. I hope you’ll check them out! Have a wonderful day!
I’ve made this little beauty this afternoon for a baby girl due in 10 days time .... loved making it ... thank you making it so understandable to new crafters. I used to crochet, then life took over! Having rediscovered a skill my mom taught me 55 odd years ago, is giving me so much pleasure ... especially now with the world in lock down!
Thank you! I used to teach children how to crochet, so I guess that carried over to UA-cam. 😇 Thank you for watching and commenting! Have a blessed day.
Thank you so very much!! That was one of my very first videos when I was a UA-cam newbie. LOL. I’m going to make some new beginner videos just as soon as I can get to it. 🤗 Thanks for watching and have a great day!
Awe! Thank you for that! I’m so glad you enjoyed this video! It’s the first one I ever made for this channel. 😇 I hope you’ll check out some more of my tutorials when you get the chance. 😇
I just love your tutorial explaining each bit of it to make I look professional it’s too good! Well done my dear! God bless you with a great success in all that you do! I will definitely follow up with your further tutorials !
Thank you so much Maria! I very much appreciate that. Yes. I have many more tutorials on my channel that I hope you will enjoy. This was one of my very first ever videos on this channel and much has changed! Stay tuned! There’s more to come!
I have been crocheting over 50 yrs, thanks for refreshing my knowledge, I'm starting this pattern tomorrow, looks extremely simple, great way to make hat, thanks for sharing, 👍
Awe! Glad you came along and are making this hat! It’s one of my very first projects on here. If you are looking for more projects that advance as you go, you can check out my playlists also and get all of the beginner tutorials. Right now most of the projects are hats because they’re small and easy to put on screen, as well as teach the concepts and give you something to wear or give away. So I hope you’ll check them out! Have a great night!
I have watched literally hundreds of videos on hats n yours is just beautifully explained n filmed. I’m not a newbie but I’ve learned soo much here. Thank you. I’m going to see if you have an easy video on making baby booties. I hope. Thank you so much.
ANNA SULLIVAN Thank you so much! It does my heart good to know that so many beginning crocheted are getting so much from my videos. That was my hope when starting this channel. I will continue to bring more tutorials as time allows. Again, thank you!
Omg...I can't believe it. I've tried many crochet tutorial videos on UA-cam...to make a baby hat. And,it was soooooooooooo difficult to do in other tutorials on UA-cam. But,you made it sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo easy. I just crochet my very first baby hat. All thanks to you.
Wow, what a wonderful compliment! Thank you very much!! I’m so happy that this tutorial helped you and that you were able to get the help you needed! As you progress, check out my other videos as well. They are also for beginners and will allow you to make more projects as well! Keep practicing and Happy crocheting!
That’s amazing!! Congratulations!! It’s always nice to know these videos help others, especially the oldest ones! 😇 I’m so glad you were able to make this hat! Thanks so much for watching.
Thank you for this excellent video! I am just teaching myself how to crochet, my goal is to have a few hats to donate to a charity. My sister, who has been crocheting for years, tried to describe this hat over the phone. I was so excited to actually see your video, because it helped congeal it in my mind. Additionally, I was having trouble with the tension and the size of the stitches. Thank you, thank you, thank you for telling us that the size of the hook is the size of the gauge of the holes. So I am now tightening my stitch up on the round portion of the hook close to the flat spot... Not down on the hook, which would make it a much tighter stitch. It now makes so much sense! I'm going to practice, practice, practice!
Hi! I would make about half the amount of chains and half the rows. There are also some preemie hat sizing charts in Pinterest and on Google. I would consult those as well to see what the measurements would be. It will depend on the size of the preemie. I hope that helps.
Hi! My pleasure! I would stick with the video instruction. Changing hook size up would make the hat too open and not warm enough, and going down, would make it too small and all measurements and math would have to be reconfigured. This is a tried and true method. 🥰 Happy crocheting!
Great idea! I don't currently, but I hope to one of these days. Perhaps when my works schedule slows down a bit. But there are many wonderful baby bootie patterns on UA-cam. I hope you find a good one. Thanks so much for your comment, and have a wonderful day!
I will hopefully be trying this today, I’m glad I found your channel and I like how you’re taking time to help us and also reply to the comments! I’ll update to tell you how it turns out inshallah. Update: I made my first one and it turned out amazing!! It’s my first project and I’m so happy with how it turned out! About to make the second one
That’s so awesome!! Good for you!! How long have you been crocheting? So glad my video helped you make your first project! That’s amazing!! Stay tuned for more goodies to come. Been a bit slow getting videos up, but hopefully more to come soon! Have you checked out my Beginners Crochet playlist? Lots of stuff to choose from. So glad you found my channel and welcome!!
Fiber Theory I’ve been crocheting for a month! I will check your beginners playlist, I’m making my second beanie at the moment and all credits go to you! I’m glad I found your channel too, thank you for taking time to help out beginners like me! You’re amazing
You can turn this hat into a 6 month size. Measure the babies head around in inches. Then instead of only making 40 total rows of single crochets for the newborn size, just make more rows. Make sure to measure your piece as you work and make sure it’s 1 inch less than your baby’s measurement, since the hat will stretch.. once your hat is the desired length in measurement, then follow the instructions at the end for sewing up the side and gathering the top. It’s super easy! 😉 Hope this helps!!😇😇
You are a wonderful teacher of crocheting! You take your time and explain everything so clearly! First time crocheting and the little hat for my "future" grandbaby came out pretty cute! The only trouble I just can't get down right is my edges are always uneven... not sure if there is a trick to keeping them completely even. Looking forward to learning more from your vids!!! Thank YOU!! Carol
That’s so awesome! Glad you found this video, and I hope it’s encouraging and helpful. Congrats on your first hat!! I know you can do it! Have a great day.
Thank you so much for the easy to follow instructions I have tried before but always came out off on the ends. Now I can proudly say I made that! Will be following for more tips.
Wow that’s excellent! I’m so happy for you!! Edges can certainly be tricky, especially with single crochet stitches. Thank you so much for this wonderful comment, and happy crocheting!
O was taught crocheting about 40 years ago It's like riding a bike you never forget But I have learned so much from you The tension O had forgotten about that. Plus O have been looking for baby beanies I am making fory first grandbaby Thank you
Charlie Gray Thank you so very much! I’m glad that I am able to provide new crocheters with the fundamentals. I never see videos that are in depth enough and have seen over the years in those I’ve taught locally the frustrations they have in not understanding proper tension. Tension makes or breaks your work. My style of teaching also comes from years of teaching crochet to children...so, you guys are getting every possible view point of crochet I can provide. Your kind comment is much appreciated! Happy crocheting...and new how to knit tutorials will be coming in Jan 2019!😇
KAY MCNUTT Awe! Thank you so much. This video seems to be helping many, and I am so grateful. 😇 Be sure to continue on with the videos from here in order, if you’re a beginner. Each step is designed to help beginners become better crocheters and build confidence. Good luck!!
Awe! Thank you Renny! There are many more videos available once you get past this basic hat!! I’m so excited that you are here!! If you are a beginner, I hope that you will check out my other beginning videos and subscribe (if you haven’t) so you can get all of my upcoming videos! There is a beginning playlist if you would like more tutorials like this!! Welcome to our little family!😇
My pleasure! My goal is to show others that crocheting and knitting are not hard to do and can be very enjoyable. I’m so glad this video helped! Have a great day!
@@FiberTheory - I've never seen such an tutorial as yours, so calm and you don't rush. I look forward to seeing more of yours, I definitely subscribed. I hope you're Blessed every day. 🌹🌹🙏🏻🙏🏻
Sorry to write again so soon. I'm working on this hat right now. My issue is, starting out and there's not much to hang onto. Very awkward for me, lol Do you have any tips?? Thank you again. 🌹🌹
I love this pattern I’ve made two already! My very first projects. However mine are turning out too small even though I’m following the exact directions. Any tips?
Hi! Glad to hear that you found this pattern and that you like it! So, if you’re new to crochet (it sounds like you might be) it will depend on your tension. It sounds like you might be a “tight crocheter”. If this is the case, change the hook to one size up. This will help. If that doesn’t do it, go up another size. That should take care of the issue. Have a wonderful day, and thank you for watching and commenting!! I appreciate you!! Happy crocheting!
Hi Amanda. just wanted to say thank you for this tutorial. very easy to follow. I'm just starting out to crochet and been having a hard time trying to find easy hat to follow videos. I'm trying to make a hat tho for my eight year old son. but thanks for showing how to make a winter hat easy.
Daniela Canto You are more than welcome Daniela!! Thank you for your amazing comment! I hope you will get a lot from the beginner videos that I’ve made and will continue to make. I’m excited to see you progress into the more advanced projects. I have a lot planned for this channel in the future, and I hope you’ll stick around and maybe send other fellow crocheters this way! Take care, and crochet on!!!
thank u so much for your response! and yes I want to grow into an advanced level eventually. still leaning. been crocheting for a month now and I love it. fun craft! I like to do other kinds of Crafts as well. I'm getting a little better at crocheting. again thank you for kind response.
Thank you so much for your prompt reply 😍 I live in Ireland and I am just learning how to crochet ..I know UK and US crochet is different but still in time I will be able to follow both. I will stayed tuned to your page and looking forward to new projects Best wishes from the green Island 😁
Hi Margo! It's been a year since you left this post, and I'm just now getting around to responding to so many posts I either never saw or realized that I should have answered. Thank you for your comment. It means so much! A year ago, this channel was just holding on, and now, we are growing like crazy!! I have many more tutorials up now. If you haven't subscribed yet, I would invite you to so that you can get all the new videos to come! I will be doing live broadcasts as well as product reviews besides crochet tutorials. I will also be teaching knitting in January 2020! I am really excited about where this channel is going! Thanks again for your lovely comment! Hugs.. ~Amanda~
Also Ireland here. Just picked up my hook and wool today and started. I'm a constant knitter but haven't crouched for nearly 40 years and just finished this hat. Can't wait to try more. Thank you 😁
I made this yesterday it came out sooooo cute - how many rows would you say for 6-9 months please ?? I can't measure the baby's head bc it's a gift -Thank you for this tutorial it's perfect
Hi! Well, they have some hat measurement guides on Google images that you could use. That way you have a better idea what size fits a 6-9 month old and then you can measure the piece as you’re making it in order to get the proper fit. Here is one that I use. richtexturescrochet.com/beginner-beanie-crochet-pattern/crochet-hat-size-chart/ I hope this helps.
Thank you sooo very much!!! This video has helped me tons!!! But I have a question for you?... Do you have any videos on how to make a baby crouched hat with matching diaper for beginners??
Thank you so much for this nice comment. Unfortunately, I do not have anything like that for beginners, not to say that I won’t in the future. This channel has been a slow going, labor of love for my fellow beginner crocheters and as much as I would love to make several videos a week, I haven’t been afforded the time to work on this channel much, due to my regular job. This does give me something to work on for a future video, though, so thank you for that. 😇 I hope you can find what you’re looking for on UA-cam. I’m sure there is something like that already recorded for you. 🥰 Interestingly enough, my mind is already forming a pattern for a diaper cover. LOL. Take care.
Hi again Amanda. I found another baby hat, this will be my fourth to date. I'm excited to try this one, as I always am. I think I can make one in one half hour as you stated. Maybe 45 minutes as it's almost time to feed the feral cat across the street as I have done for 3 yrs. She's always waiting for me at the same place and time. I'll let you know how this one turns out, but I know it will be perfect. 😍
@@FiberTheory That would be awesome. My daughter is having her 1st child.. I may have already told you a gazillion times, lol She's due Jan 29 th, so I've been busy making all sorts of things for her little girl. I believe I have 6 or 7 beanies, all different colours. Yes, several are yours. 🤗 I've chroched her a gorgeous pastel blanket using yarnspirations bernat baby blanket. My daughter wants some hats with PomPoms; I've yet to find one with ears of an animal that doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out. I'm also looking for beginners scratchy mittens, and beginners booties. Now she wants twin beanies with PomPoms. Your beanie would be perfect for them. I'm getting tired reading all this, lol The past 2 nights I've been awake until 4am working on the blanket, so it will be done in time. Tonite I'm taking it easy as all I have to do is finish one side with the scallops. I can whip that out in no time. (I hope, lol) Then I'm off to the P. O. to ship what I have so far. Your patterns have played a huge part in my getting a lot of this done. Thank you SO much. Your dedication to helping others forfill amazing pieces is priceless. Thank you, thank you, and thank you.
Does it matter what size yarn I use for the hook. I have a kit with all the hook sizes from 2-6mm so could use the same hook as you but the yarn I have has a number 4 symbol on it. Does this mean I should use number 4 hook or shall I just copy you and use the number you used orrrr shall I get bigger yarn lol. I hope my question makes sense xx
Hi!! Thanks for watching and for your question! Your question makes complete sense. 😇 So the 4 on the yarn is more than likely the weight (or thickness of the strand). Normally, for a yarn that size, a G, H or I hook is recommended so that the yarn will fit inside the hook head in order to pull the strand through the loops. A size G hook is a 4.5mm hook size, an H is a 5.0mm hook size and a man I hook is a 5.5mm. One of those three will work. Now I’m thinking about doing a video explaining hooks, sizes, and the sizes of materials! This was a great question! Happy crocheting!
Thank you so much you have single handedly taught me how to crochet, I love your videos and your lovely soothing voice, sometimes when you give instructions I say in my head ‘okay mom’ as if your my own mom lol and I love the part where you said about your daughter coming back to learn again, I pray she does too because your the best teacher out there and she’s sooo lucky to have you in person 🥰😍 thank you again and God bless!! Xx
Hi! Unless otherwise stated, I use only 4 weight yarn, especially if a size G, H, or I hook are being used. If I’m using a J or K, it would be a little bigger yarn. I usually use Mainstays from Walmart or I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby, so that will always be a size 4 worsted weight.
Hi there! Well, for this particular tutorial, I would use a 4 ply worsted weight yarn. You want something soft enough. I like “I Love This Yarn” brand yarn at Hobby Lobby. There’s also enough yardage in a skein of that urn to make about 5 newborn hats, maybe more. But I would stick with soft 4 ply yarn for this project. Thanks for your question! Have a great day!
Wow, and WOW!! I actually made 3 of these tonight thanks to you. I love them and each will make wonderful gifts. I'm going to go to Michaels and get Pom Poms for 2 of them. My daughter wants the Pom Poms. She also wants a hat with ears, lol I'll check your other videos to see if any of your tutorials has animal ears. That has to wait until tomorrow as it's 2:16am here in Fl, lol Thank you again... The hats are soooo cute and easy. I wish more people would be like you. Patience is a must when chroceting. Have a wonderful nite. 🌹❣️🌹❣️🌹
I am so glad you have enjoyed my videos. It feels good to know that I can actually help so many to crochet and learn to love the craft, right on this platform! Animal ears are something I’d like to teach, and have made many in the past. I don’t have many baby patterns, but I have some other ideas that I’m working on. I’d love for you to join in our lives that I have the first Friday of every month!! We have fun, and talk about crochet and about what’s coming up. I also leave you guys messages throughout the week with updates! But thank you again!!
@@FiberTheory Yes, I am enjoying your tutorials, more than any other on UA-cam. You're a saint in my eyes. I have a couple of ears saved, one is a bunny, the other a bear. I haven't looked at either closely yet, but I will. That is until you upload some 😃 I know you're busy, but I'll be watching if anything from you goes up. The Friday group sounds awesome, I'm certain I'd enjoy it. Count me in 🤗 Have a wonderful day. 🌹❣️❣️🌹
That’s awesome, Jeannie! A new project video is going up this Friday!! I’m teaching how to crochet pillow covers, and make accent pillows for the holidays, and I’m really excited to show you guys how I do them. For those, I’m teaching the basket weave stitch! It’s gonna be great!
@@FiberTheory - Sounds Fantabulous!!! I'm not sure about being a pro, but I try hard. 🤗 You have this in the bag. You're so patient, more so than anyone else I've seen on UA-cam. I'm 100% serious about that. I watched a tutorial last night, you'd of thought the woman was running a race!! Many comments of could she please slow down. Her response was to pause her video to catch up with her. I caught up... right out of her tutorial!! I'm bad!! 🤣😂🤣😂
Your detailed explanations of truly basic things are fantastic - where to put your hook into each stitch, tension, - I have been doing it wrong all this time and was so frustrated. Thank you!
pawandeep kaur saini Thank you!! I’m sorry to be getting back to you so late, but I’ve been working with my other channel and running my online store, so I haven’t had much time to concentrate here. I have changed the name of this channel to reflect new things coming! It will include crochet, knit, vlogs, lives, and product reviews...so stay tuned!!
Anita Lornie Thank you so much, Anita! And, I must apologize for ignoring everyone here. I’ve been so very busy with my other channel and running my online stores, so I’m back!! I’ve changed the name of the channel to reflect new things... croche & knitting tutorials, vlogs, lives, and product reviews.. so stay tuned!!
Just finished making hat, SO CUTE! Do you have any pattern for baby blanket? I made one with shell stitch, one with moss stitch, right now working on one that has granny stitch, was looking for something with not so big spaces, something that's fancy but not sc or dc, hdc? Tired of shells, want something that works for both sides, any help would be appreciated. Thanks for sharing the hat.
Hi there! I’m sorry, but I only have one baby blanket currently on my channel and it’s a type of shell stitch. I’m sure I’ll have another one out this fall. I haven’t had time to make any new videos due to being an essential employee during Covid..so it will take a bit more time to design and start another project/pattern/video. Should you want to check out my latest blanket, it’s the last two videos in my channel. One is also for left handed crocheters. If you knit, I’ve also got some knitting videos you might be interested in. ua-cam.com/video/XBAudSpff44/v-deo.html Have a great night and take care.
Very good and easy to understand video. Thank you. My question is will the number of rows change depending on the yarn weight. I’m going to use a #3 weight yarn and a G hook.
Thank you for your question. Yes. With weight of yarn and hook size, the amount of rose with change. Your best bet is to have a fabric measuring tape so that you can measure the head that you were making the hat for, and then try to make the amount of rose that it takes to get to that measurement, but leave off about 1 inch at the end so that the hat can stretch and fit rather than be too big.
Your presentation is amazing! I have been very frustrated for a long time but I’m glad I didn’t stop Crocheting and found you. One question? Where can I find your other basic instructions? Please. RJH
Rebecca Haug Awe!, Thank you! Well, if you need help from the beginning, you would just go to the videos section and watch from the bottom, up. Start with the first video, which teaches a slip knot and the foundation chain. Then the video above that teaches the single crochet (sc) stitch, and then this video, to show how to use the sc in a project...and so on. I just posted a new part one tutorial today and am working on part 2 now. I hope this helps. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!! Happy crocheting!!
I would make a little flower and see how it looks against the hat when finished. If you like it, feel free to sew it on. I’ve added flowers to my hats before and they turn out so cute! 😇
hajra shaguftha Thank you very much! This is the very first project tutorial I had ever done on screen, and am seriously surprised at how well it’s done! I am truly humbled by all the wonderful comments and just the fact that this video has helped so many people. I appreciate your comment so much. Thank you! I hope you will follow the other tutorials that I have in the future as well. They get better over time. :)
Hi there! I am going around and looking through old comments and found yours! Just wanted to let you know that I have many more videos now, and this channel has exploded since it started. It's been an exciting journey to say the least! Things have seriously changed for the better, even the videos are completely different. If you're interested, come on by and check it out!! I'm also doing giveaways and other fun stuff on this channel other than just projects. Take care. ~Amanda~
Hi there. Well I have this one. It’s also using crochet cables, if you know how to make the cables. I do have some left handed crochet videos in my channel if you want to check them out, but here’s the one for a baby hat. ua-cam.com/video/SihtU3HvZJ8/v-deo.html
Yes. The nice thing about this pattern is that it is very forgiving. Since really the only part of this pattern that truly matters is the amount of rows made, you can make more or less depending on the size of the baby you are making them for. There are also charts out there that can give you exact measurements for this exact thing. I wish you the best and thank you again for donating. I know these will be appreciated.
First off -this video is excellent! I am a beginner and I love how you break things down to make them easy to follow. I have taken your advice and am practicing before making this hat. I have a bunch of yarn that is 3ply and the size 6mm hook just seems too big for it. It suggests a 4mm hook on the actual yarn. Is it possible to make this hat using the 4mm hook? What would the chain size and rows be? If that isn't possible, do you have any other suggestions? I would hate to waste all this yarn.
Hello and thank you so much for your wonderful comment! Yes you would definitely want to follow the hook sizing on the yarn. You can either use a four or a five. However, when it comes to sizing, you basically want to make a chain of the same size, but as you work, you will need to do more rows. Measure the baby’s head circumference around, then you will know how many row you will need to make. The amount of rows that you will make, will need to measure the same size as the circumference of the head. That will actually give the hat a little bit more stretch, and it should fit the baby longer. If you have any other questions, please feel free to comment in this thread, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Hi there. So, one of a couple of things has happened. Are you any new crocheter? If so, the hat may be small because you might be crocheting very tightly. If this is the case, you can go up one or two sizes on the crochet hook that you’re using to make the hat. That will change your gauge. Technically you don’t need to add any more to the beanie to make it larger. That’s the nice thing about crochet hooks. The gauge is dependent on the hook. My suggestion would be to go back remake the hat using a larger hook and see how that works out for you. If that does not work for you, just add another Row or two before you sew up the seam. I hope this works out for you. Thanks for your question. I wish you the best!
If you are using a size 6 hook, I would suggest using a 3 or 4 ply yarn. If you can, I would measure the head circumference that you're making the hat for, if you can, and then make the amount of rows that you'll need to equal the same amount of inches across that you need for the measurement, minus an inch since the yarn will stretch. But I would use the size 3 or 4 ply yarn for sure. It will work the best for this project. Thanks for your question.
Hi again Amanda. I've made several of these already. I'm really pleased how good they turn out. As usual I have a question. I was looking at your piece to when it's ready to fold in half. Your ends are PERFECT!! At times mine have ended up lopsided and I've had to rip several rows out. How do you manage to keep yours SOOOO STRAIGHT every time??
I make sure to count every stitch and make sure that my stitches are made in the top space above each post. If there are 20 sc’s in the ch, then there needs to be 20 sc’s in each row as well. Making sure to make the final sc’s in the very last posts is crucial. Just make sure to count, and make sure to make each row exactly identical. In other words, only put the sc’s I. The top spaces of each sc, and make sure you always chain 1 at the end of each row. If it helps, you can follow one of my videos showing how to make a hat band.. and you can do the same thing as with the hat band, just make a chain of 20, and then follow how to make the band. Do only 40 rows of sc’s, and you’ll be good to go.
@@FiberTheory - Amanda, at times I wonder how I ever got most of my pieces correct. 🤔 As I said when I got looking closely at yours it was PERFECTION!! I have learned to check my tension better than I had been, and you're do right, it does play a lot larger roll than I imagined. Now, I'm being double certain to count every single stitch... so far, it's great!! Where have you been all these years?!?!? In the past I've more than likely ripped out as much as I've kept. 😂🤣 In the end you've saved me countless hours. If anyone ever asks me who is the best teacher they're getting your name!! Thank you as always for taking from your personal time to help not just me, but all of us. You're one in a gazillion and I'm so happy I found you. Kudo's!! 🤗🤗😉😉🌹🌹
You’re a sweetheart Jeannie! Thank you. I am always here to help. I’ve made those frustrating mistakes several times in my life and I know the feeling all too well. My teaching comes from experiencing my own ups and downs of both crochet and knit. I’m so glad my teaching techniques work for you and so many others.
This is a VERY old video. I have many new videos that do have some words on the screen, but I have problems getting subtitles to work on my videos. I would have to type out everything I said across my video, and unfortunately I wouldn’t have the time to do that. However, with my newer videos, I do have written patterns for the newest projects. I would invite you to check out my newer projects. Thank you.
Take care. ~Amanda~
Hi. The yarn I used was regular 4 worsted weight. You can use any yarn size you want, but measurements are your best friend in any size yarn you use. There are many good free hat sizing charts on Google that will give you the proper measurements for the sizes you need. I hope this helps.

Hi there. This hat is made with measurements in mind. My best advice is always to measure the circumference of the head you’re making the hat for, or find a hat measurement chart online (you can Google it).. and make the beanie according to the measurements already provided. Knowing the measurement you need in both width and height will allow you to choose the right size by the hat chart. This hat was intended to work with any measurement you need. I wish you the best. Thanks so much for your question. I hope I was able to answer it for you. 😇👍🏼
You are a wonderful instructor! Not too fast, not too slow; detailed instructions that are totally understandable for us beginners. Thank you!
I feel like you’re my mom 🥰I love this video. thank you for teaching me. I’m 22 and this is my first project you made it so easy for me xx
Awe!! You’re a sweetheart! I have kids older than you, so I can be your crochet mom. LOL. I’m so glad this video helped you. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask here! 🥰
OMG this has got to be the easiest tutorial thus far! You are so detailed!😊
Thank you so much!! That’s one of my very first videos.. my third, I think. LOL. I appreciate that. I also hope you continue to check out more of my tutorials. This channel was designed with beginners in mind.
Have a wonderful day!
This was my first project I went on to create some baby clothes as well as baby shoes and I think I'm addicted
Happy Crocheting!!
I just love you. You showing me how to make single sc baby hat. Thank you so much.
God bless you
Many blessings!

Have you tried propping pillows to rest your arms. I get this thing that makes my arms feel really heavy. But after I am able to rest my arms. It helps.
Am new to making hats. My Mom showed me how to crochet before she passed so I consider myself lucky for her to have taught me.
I am so glad you enjoyed the video.

So glad to hear that this hat worked out for you!! I have many other to choose from as well, even some baby hats. Be safe out there!
Love the way you take time to explain every detail. Tysvm❤
Thank you! I used to teach children how to crochet, so I guess that carried over to UA-cam. 😇
Thank you for watching and commenting! Have a blessed day.
Beautifully explained. Thank you
Thank you so very much!! That was one of my very first videos when I was a UA-cam newbie. LOL. I’m going to make some new beginner videos just as soon as I can get to it. 🤗 Thanks for watching and have a great day!
Thank you. Your instructions are clear and very easy to follow. You are a brilliant teacher.
Awe! Thank you for that! I’m so glad you enjoyed this video! It’s the first one I ever made for this channel. 😇 I hope you’ll check out some more of my tutorials when you get the chance. 😇

I am glad I came across your video. Your tutorial seems easy. Thank you. Now I am considering adding a baby hat with the baby blanket.
Nice!! Glad you found the video too! I wish you the very best with your project! You can do it!!
Hi there! Well thank you so much for that! Unfortunately I don’t have any bootie videos. That’s something I’d like to do in the future though.
Thank you for such a detailed tutorial and you have the perfect speed for all to see what you are doing and explain it so thoroughly. Thank You!
ANNA SULLIVAN Thank you so much! It does my heart good to know that so many beginning crocheted are getting so much from my videos. That was my hope when starting this channel. I will continue to bring more tutorials as time allows. Again, thank you!
This was s good class!
Yes...I'm your new subscriber...thanks
My first project done 😁 I enjoyed your video thank you!
You are so sweet! Thank you! I am so glad that you enjoyed the video!! Yes!! Practice, practice , practice for sure.. 😇😇
Hi, im doing this for a preemie baby..how many stitches would u suggest for this please
Hi! I would make about half the amount of chains and half the rows. There are also some preemie hat sizing charts in Pinterest and on Google. I would consult those as well to see what the measurements would be. It will depend on the size of the preemie. I hope that helps.
Can’t wait to try this! Thank you for being so detailed! ❤️ Can I use any size hook or will it have to be the exact one used in the video?
Hi! My pleasure! I would stick with the video instruction. Changing hook size up would make the hat too open and not warm enough, and going down, would make it too small and all measurements and math would have to be reconfigured. This is a tried and true method. 🥰
Happy crocheting!
Been knitting for years but am learning to crochet this video is very well explained...thank you
Oh excellent! I’m so glad this video was helpful!
I love this simple pattern. Thank you
Would you have a simple tutorial for baby booties? Thank you.
How many extra rows exactly do we need for a 3-6 month old?
You are a wonderful teacher of crocheting! You take your time and explain everything so clearly!
First time crocheting and the little hat for my "future" grandbaby came out pretty cute! The only trouble I just can't get down right is my edges are always uneven... not sure if there is a trick to keeping them completely even. Looking forward to learning more from your vids!!! Thank YOU!!

You are so welcome!
I love it I will practice this is my first hat I tried before didn't get it will keep triying thank you
That’s so awesome!
O was taught crocheting about 40 years ago
It's like riding a bike you never forget
But I have learned so much from you
The tension
O had forgotten about that. Plus O have been looking for baby beanies

Linda Smela I’m so glad you got so much from this video, Linda!! Thank you for such a sweet comment! Happy crocheting!
new sub here!!! this video is incredible and is the first that actually showed how to hold the yarn! and the explanation is what i needed
Thank you for directions it was so easy I completed it in less than an hour
Oh wow! That’s awesome to hear!Thank you for leaving your comment! Happy crocheting! ☺️

KAY MCNUTT Awe! Thank you so much. This video seems to be helping many, and I am so grateful. 😇 Be sure to continue on with the videos from here in order, if you’re a beginner. Each step is designed to help beginners become better crocheters and build confidence. Good luck!!

@@FiberTheory thank you so much! ☺️
Seems like the best beanie
I hope you enjoy making it. 😇 Thank you.
Hi Amanda. just wanted to say thank you for this tutorial. very easy to follow.
Here is one that I use.
richtexturescrochet.com/beginner-beanie-crochet-pattern/crochet-hat-size-chart/
I hope this helps.
I love this tutorial
Thank you!! Hopefully I’ll have more beginner baby hats up soon!
Yes your video…learned a lot. Thanks
That’s awesome! I’m glad this video was useful. Have a wonderful day and happy crocheting.
I hope you can find what you’re looking for on UA-cam. I’m sure there is something like that already recorded for you. 🥰 Interestingly enough, my mind is already forming a pattern for a diaper cover. LOL.
Take care.
Oh ok, that's fine and thank you so very much!.. can't wait to see what you have in mind in the future💜
I am sure it will turn out perfectly, Jeannie! I'm also going to recreate this hat one day into an adult size. I think it's gonna look amazing!
Thank you for great job with direction
So glad this video helped!
So the 4 on the yarn is more than likely the weight (or thickness of the strand).
Thanks very easyJet not bad for me
Would please advise the number of your yarn is it 4 or 5? As well as is it cotton or acrylic? Thank you in advance!
@@FiberTheory thank you for explaining it!
What's the best yarn to use for a new born baby's crocheted hat
I'm bad!! 🤣😂🤣😂
Great tutorial and easy to follow
Thank you so much. Really glad you got so much from it. ☺️
This is the best and most easy video tutorial i have seen so for...Thank you so much mam for this video
Beautifully explained 👏

Have a great night and take care.

Can you add a flower to this hat when its complete or it wouldn't look good on this particular hat?
I would make a little flower and see how it looks against the hat when finished. If you like it, feel free to sew it on. I’ve added flowers to my hats before and they turn out so cute! 😇
Thank you!
My pleasure!! Thanks so watching!!
Awesome , very good teaching , keep it up ..
hajra shaguftha Thank you very much! This is the very first project tutorial I had ever done on screen, and am seriously surprised at how well it’s done! Do you no any left handed crochet patterns for baby hats. i have been looking for one but can never find any?
Hi there. Well I have this one. It’s also using crochet cables, if you know how to make the cables. I do have some left handed crochet videos in my channel if you want to check them out, but here’s the one for a baby hat.

Ty!
So glad you found this video. Happy crocheting! 🧶
Remember if it doesn't look perfect It is because it is made with love
True. 😌😌😌
Thank you for replying but I’m making these for donating. Using 3 weight and G hook can you approximate increase in rows and chains?
As an 11-year-old this helps a lot
I’m very glad! I started out teaching kids ages 8-12, so, I’m glad this helped you!
@@FiberTheory Thank you so much for your prompt reply. Could you give me the measurements of your hat above? The height and the circumference? Thanks!
I did the same amount of rows but the beanie is extremely small:( do I have to start over or can I add even though I tied it off?
If the needle is no 6 what yarn should I choose 12 ply ??? Is there a chart needle size matching the yarn ?
If you are using a size 6 hook, I would suggest using a 3 or 4 ply yarn. If you can, I would measure the head circumference that you're making the hat for, if you can, and then make the amount of rows that you'll need to equal the same amount of inches across that you need for the measurement, minus an inch since the yarn will stretch. But I would use the size 3 or 4 ply yarn for sure. It will work the best for this project. Thanks for your question.
The bestest thank you! ♥️
Fa Shah Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed it.
Kudo's!! 🤗🤗😉😉🌹🌹

My teaching comes from experiencing my own ups and downs of both crochet and knit. I’m so glad my teaching techniques work for you and so many others.
Can you use subtitles when you do your projects. TiA
Thank you.
Omg this was awesome!!!!!

Please do! That's so kind of you! I'm sure these hats would work great!
Hi is this dk yarn and can i use dk yarn
Hi. The yarn I used was regular 4 worsted weight. You can use any yarn size you want, but measurements are your best friend in any size yarn you use. There are many good free hat sizing charts on Google that will give you the proper measurements for the sizes you need. I hope this helps.
Thanks alot🙏 for your Quick response.. much appreciated. God Bless
Thanks you so much your video is very easy to follow and learn

Wonderful work. I/we need measurements as not all the materials have the same thickness, measurements help a lot, please.❤
Thank u
Yes ma’am. 🤗
