I prefer frame by frame hand drawn animation, as sometimes onion skinning/rigging animation could look stiff and puppeteer like. It can look good, like Archer, but there’s also a stiffness that comes with it.

Exactly how i feel...Frame by frame makes the scene and characters more fluid to me more "Quality". Also hard to replicate by any one just jumping into animations...so preferably for skilled ones only. Good to set high standards for animation and animators and the market (Thats what I think).. the other hand..AI makes it somehow easier for newbies to just jump in and begin animating using rigs...Don't get me wrong..i am not saying people shouldn't learn..but I prefer people with high standards should join in..just to keep the animation world look less "Cheap".

I prefer frame by frame, yes it takes longer but it also improves your drawing skills.

Frame by frame will always be my favourite but rigging is less stressful and gives Animators more time

Well I understand why animation studios do seem to prefer rigging animations nowadays as it is cheaper to make. However, frame by frame hand drawn animation should not become a dying art. It should still be kept alive.

If I were to make my own animated film I would like to use both methods.

I would say that rigging is much, much older than 1988. Have a look at Lotte Reiniger Prince Achmed from 1926. It's a full-length feature by using cutouts. Beats even Disney's Snow white time wise.

Beautiful video. I didn't know that riging started in the late 80s. Forme riging is a bit difficult, since I use frame by frame animation. It is time consuming, but the results are most defenaitly worth it :)
