  • Today, it's hard to find someone who has never heard of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For over a decade we have had a steady stream of great Marvel movies hitting screens across the world. But now that we are on the cusp of a new phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe we are starting to see some of the same problems Marvel Comics had for a long, long time.

I really hope Secret War will turn out to be as good as Infinity War and Endgame, since the Russo Brothers say it’ll be the only marvel project they’ll come back for

My only critique was that quicksilver wasn’t killed because of rights disputes it was a last minute decision by weadon because the mcu didn’t have any solid plans for the character and since fox already had a popular quicksilver they thought it would be too confusing for audiences

This is why I really loved Netflix’s Daredevil. It had its fair share of interconnectivity-like how everyone remembers the Battle of New York- but it was mostly a standalone story with a real set of stakes that were never close to world ending. That’s what I want for the mcu moving forward, just let their awesome cast of characters shine in stories that suit them first and worrying about the interconnection second

I actually think they managed scalation quite well. Endgame was released almost two years ago, and then we got Far From Home, Wandavision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier scaling it all back down while dealing with the aftermath of what happened in that movie (thats the reason I don't mention Black Widow though it also helped with relaxing a bit after that huge event). I understand Wandavision was supposed to come out after Falcon originally and it makes sense, considering the amount of stuff that happens I believe Falcon leading to Wandavision leading to Loki makes a lot of sense, but it worked either way. And then Loki just played with us for a while leading towards the next absolutely huge event in the MCU. So yeah, I think they managed it well. I seriously hope they don't rush this multiversal war thing

Shang-Chi looks like it had vision, not just the Marvel vision, but some genuine style and personality. I’m hoping so at least.

If Marvel reboots daredevil and he starts being all quirky and funny like Iron Man and Spider Man and Thor, I will riot.

I want a solo villain protagonist movie so that we can see their journey and growth. Then eventually their downfall after a series of movies with the heroes that lead up to the big boss fight.

I'm really excited to see how marvel is able to keep things interesting. Loki looks promising so far. As long as they don't bring back characters using the multiverse, I think this is a great direction for marvel and superhero movies in general.

An interesting point is about fatigue, I definetly felt that after Endgame and, prentending that has nothing to do with me watching at least 5x every mcu movie, only now I'm slowly getting back into it with the Disney+ shows. My major concern is about them rushing Kang (or whatever other big bad) and also the Sony partnership, but that's another topic.

I think they have to keep the characters at their current power level. One problem in the comics is that the characters being insanely powerful makes the battles huge.

History repeats itself, elsewhere, when someone tells themselves, "This won't happen to me". If you tell yourself "this COULD happen to me" you will do everything possible to prevent a thing from happening to you, if it is bad, and everything to make it happen, if it is good.

I hope they start focusing more on character until the big bad starts the war. I’d like to see Spiderman struggle financially, I’d like to see less goofy jokes and more individual visions for each film. I think the best way to keep interest in this series is to let the singular vision go and embrace the crazy ideas like a guy that looks like a goblin and a giant talking dragon

All stories need a definitive end. Robert Kirkman knew that for Invincible. Fantastic comic series that more franchises need to learn.

The MCU would never resurrect a character in a straightforward way

If watching EVERYTHING is a necessity to understanding the MCU then I can see the fatigue argument. But while the movies were heading towards Endgame, we had the Netflix Marvel shows and network shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. On cable, Disney had Spider-Man and Avengers cartoons; so, except for a little more integration of content, what's really changed?

you have it so spot on. at this point, im not scared to say im an mcu fan. but my gosh, im also so tired with all the things we have to watch. the one year we took a break from the mcu did us favors too, imo.

Actually, getting in new creative blood, both in front of and behind the camera, is a success strategy the films are following from the comics. When creators in comics get really big, they go their own way…which is fine, and there’s always young and hungry folks looking to make the leap up. Hang on to “top talent” too long and they atrophy - see Bendis.

Infinity War was a masterclass in avoiding fatigue. Would it help to have seen all 18 preceding films before that one, absolutely, but was it necessary, I would say no. Characters introduce themselves or others in ways that make sense, exposition is kept to the bare minimum so that anyone that is fully up to date doesn’t have to go through too much repetition but enough to cover the essential stuff. Talented creators can pull it off
