Blackest Night was the first GL comic I ever held and creeped the carp out of me. Didn’t let me sleep, I was a kid as a time. And this year, I moved to college and as I went to a library outside of my school I found Blackest Night again in the comic section. Thanks for reviewing it. Love your channel.
Blackest Night is the GOAT. Is there a list of all the heroes that have died in the DC universe and the number of times they have? Surer someone somewhere has done the legwork on a list such as that. I’d love to see the statistics on it. Also, wouldn’t a marvel zombies and DC Blackest Night or Black Lantern crossover be amazing?!!!
Blackest Night is my favourite DC event as it truly blew my mind seeing the culmination of Johns Green Lantern saga and truly felt like a massive event that effected everyone in the DC Universe as you felt the weight of the rise Nekron and the Black Lanterns. I truly hope they someday DC adapts this storyline someday because it has so much potential to be built up as the Endgame of Green Lantern stories, either as the ending of a Green Lantern reboot animated series, or the final installment of a Green Lantern film saga. Ive even written my own draft for a Green Lantern film saga set in James Gunn's DCU and I have a alot of ideas, sketch designs and written drafts for 6 films, and the final two movies adapting Blackest Night. I even have an idea for making Black Hand into a tragic, sympathetic villain by making him the same age and best friend to Kyle Rayner who in my pitch are both in their early 20's growing up and in college but William would be stricken his whole life with mental problems and suicidal thoughts that are neglected by his family and only Kyle truly cares about William, but Nekron would pose as Williams intrusive thoughts in his head torturing his whole life to the moment Nekron plans to return and make William his avatar of the undead, his Black Hand.
First comment, looking forward to your coverage of the Blackest Night. This is one of my favourite DC Events and it’ll be great to re-experience it this way.
By any chance, do you ever think you'll make a video of the Marvel version of Green Lantern? I know there's a lot, and I wanted to ask: in your opinion, who's the closest character from Marvel comics that is like Green Lantern? Thank you, love your videos
Didn’t read it as it came out, but Blackest Night was the reason I started reading comics along with the Lanterncast. I read the mains series and I believe I read all the tie ins, picked up the trades so whatever was in there
Despite being a huge GL fan before it, I think what really hooked me on this event was the death of Jen through the Black Lantern FireStorm, it was so tragic to me that it fully got me invested in following Firestorm and seeing if Jen would ever come back. I really love this even tho, read Blackest Night a few years back, adored it so much that I reread it with the tie ins too and it only made me love it more.
the only thing i will say about this video is that the "death entity" of this story isn't the black hand himself, rather he's more of an "avatar" for the actual death entity, that being nekron
List of black lanterns:(it’s not all of them just the most importants) J’onn J’onnz (Martian Manhunter): cruelly murdered by Libra as a “sign of goodwill” towards the villain community (Final Crisis). - Katma Tui (Green Lantern): was dismembered by a Star Sapphire in Action Comics #601 (1988). - Ronnie Raymond Firestorm: was killed by the Shining Knight’s sword wielded by the Shadow Thief (Identity Crisis #3). - Dee Tyler (Phantom Lady): was killed by Deathstroke in an ambush orchestrated by the Secret Society of Super Villains (Infinite Crisis #1). - Ryan Kendall (Black Condor): was killed by Sinestro’s lightning in an ambush orchestrated by the Secret Society of Super Villains (Infinite Crisis #1). - Roy Lincoln (Human Bomb): Crushed to death by Bizarro in an ambush orchestrated by the Secret Society of Super Villains (Infinite Crisis #1). - Al Pratt (Atom): Killed by Extant (DC Sagas #7: Zero Hour) - Jenny-Lynn Hayden (Jade): Died trying to stop Alexander Luthor's experiment (Infinite Crisis #2). She gave her power to Kyle and her body vanished. - Roscoe Dillon (Top): Frozen and broken to death by Captain Cold, in retaliation for having mentally controlled the Villains (Flash #16). - Lisa Snart (Golden Skater): Captain Cold's sister was killed by Chillblaine. - Digger Harkness (Captain Boomerang): Died in a double trap, when he killed Jack Drake, Robin's father (Identity Crisis). - Arthur Curry (Aquaman): died pierced by the spear of the warrior Narwhal. His remains turned into water. - Sue Dibny: wife of Ralph Dibny, the Elongated Man, was murdered by her friend Jean Loring in a twisted plan to win back the love of Ray Palmer, the Atom (Identity Crisis). - Ralph Dibny (Elongated Man): died setting a trap for the demon Neron to trap him in the Tower of Destiny (52). He and Sue have been seen in the form of ghost detectives. Hawkman and Hawkgirl should have died in Final Crisis, and in fact they did, but a late editorial decision made the wounds received not as serious as they seemed. Now we see that they were only saved for the terrible final scene of the first act of Blackest Night.
I read the core blackest night series a few years back, but a way more interesting story is that my friend, who was in-between graduating college and starting her job, got a free trial to DC Universe Unlimited and read the entire post-crisis Johns run in 2 weeks. That’s GL rebirth, Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Sinestro Corps Wars and all its tie-ins, Blackest Night and all its tie-ins, and Brightest Day and all its tie-ins. She also read all of the new 52 Red Lanterns series. We did the math and determined that she read somewhere in the ballpark of 270~ issues in 2 weeks.
For the third issue even more black lanterns: Arisia's family: we haven't seen them die, but we saw her father's funeral in Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps #3 (September 2009). - Ke'Haan: the Green Lantern of Sector 786 was burned to death by the Anti-Monitor during the Sinestro Corps War, in Green Lantern #23 (November 2007) ( Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War #03 ). - Amon Tomaz (Osiris): was eaten by his friend/pet Sobek/Yuurd/Hunger, in 52 #43 (February 28, 2007) ( 52 #43 ). - Roy Bivolo (Rainbow Raider): died when Herrera impaled him with a painting he had just stolen and was trying to sell, The Flash #183 (April 2002) ( The Flash #01 (of 3): Crossfire ). - Dmitri Pushkin (Rocket Red 4): died in an explosion sacrificing himself to destroy three of the OMACs that threatened his former Justice League teammates, in The OMAC Project #05 (October 2005) ( The OMAC Project ). - Wildebeest: died after being punched by Superboy Prime, Infinite Crisis #4 (March 2006) ( Infinite Crisis #02 ). - Rosabelle Mendez (Pantha): died when Superboy Prime accidentally punched her head off, Infinite Crisis #4 (March 2006) ( Infinite Crisis #02 ). - Holly Granger (Falcon): what a joke 😛 - Kenny Braverman (Conduit): died by himself, using more power than he could process to kill Superman, Action Comics #711 (July 1995). - Toby Manning (Terra-Man): died when Black Adam ripped him in half, 52 #03 (May 1, 2006) ( 52 #03 ). - Mica Love (Enforcer): died after being speared by one of Circe’s female warriors during a Suicide Squad raid during the War of the Gods, in Suicide Squad #58 (October 1991). - John Ravenhair (Black Bison): died at the hands of the Spectre, although we only saw his corpse, in Day of Vengeance #1 (June 2005). - Duel Eknham: separated by Mongul, one side died when Guy Gardner blew his head off with his power ring, and the other when he was hit by a shower of lightning launched by a dozen Green Lanterns, Green Lantern Corps #26 (September 2008) (Green Lantern Corps #04: The Search for the Ring). - Victor Sage (Question): succumbed to lung cancer, 52 #38 (January 24, 2007) ( 52 No. 38 ). - Ugg-I and all the Sinestros who participated in the Oa riots: were executed by the Alpha Lanterns at the end of Emerald Eclipse, in Green Lantern Corps #38 (July 2009). - Isaac Bowin (the Fiddler): died from a shot to the head by Deadshot after his first mission as part of Mockingbird's Secret Six proved to be incompetent, in Villains United #1 (July 2005) ( Villains United ). - Clifford Devoe (The Thinker): died twice, once when his throat was slit by Weasel on a Suicide Squad mission, in The Doom Patrol and Suicide Squad Special #1 (1988), and once from brain cancer, in Flash #134 (February 1998) (DC Universe: Flash #05). Mark Millar and Grant Morrison didn’t read Suicide Squad, they just thought no one remembered him anymore… - John Monroe (Weasel): died when The Thinker’s helmet fired an energy blast at him as revenge for killing its wearer, in The Doom Patrol and Suicide Squad Special #1 (1988). - Crystal Frost (Killer Frost): died as a result of degeneration caused by her own powers. He did, however, absorb Firestorm's power in a desperate attempt to survive, with a kiss... in Fury of Firestorm #21 (March 1984). - Alexander Luthor of Earth-3: he was shot dead by the Joker after being sprayed in the face with acid and electrocuted, in Infinite Crisis #7 (June 2006) (Infinite Crisis #04). - Neal Emerson (Doctor Polaris): he died from an explosion of the Human Bomb, when the Secret Society of Super Villains ambushed and massacred the Freedom Fighters, Infinite Crisis #1 (December 2005) (Infinite Crisis #1). - Lawrence Bolatinsky (Bolt): he died when his own son, Dreadbolt, teleported him into a wall, in Terror Titans #03 (February 2009). - Bertram Larvan (The Bug-Eyed Bandit): died at the hands of shadow demons, in Crisis on Infinite Earths #12 (March 1986) (Crisis on Infinite Earths ). - Arthur Light (Dr. Light): died at the hands of the Spectre, as punishment for being a murderer, rapist, and tormentor of children, he was turned into a human candle and melted, Final Crisis: Revelations #01 (October 2008) (Final Crisis: Apocalypse ). - Roger Hayden (Psychopirate): died when Black Adam pierced his head with his own mask, after breaking free from Alex Luthor's machine, Infinite Crisis #6 (May 2006) (Infinite Crisis #03 ). - Henry King (Brainwave): died defeated in a telepathic battle against the Ultra-human, Infinity Inc. #10 (January 1985). - Laura de Mille (Madame Rouge): Died after an electric shock caused when Beast Boy, Then Changeling threw her against a control panel at his base of operations, in The New Teen Titans # 15 (January 1982) ( DC Classics: New Titans # 04 ). - Maxwell Lord: died when Wonder Woman snapped his neck, to prevent the threat he posed by mentally controlling Superman, in the crossover "Sacrifice" during "The OMAC Project", in Wonder Woman # 219 (September 2005) ( The OMAC Project ). - Copperhead: was executed by Manhunter, when he fired his gun directly into his mouth, going through his head, in Manhunter # 1 (October 2004) ( Manhunter # 01 ). - Hudson Pyle (the Knight): was killed by the police, in Legends of the Dark Knight # 34 (July 1992) ( Legends of Batman # 05: Swords ). Sniff… - Garth (Tempest): ok… I'll stop… - Enkafos: he was cut in two by Sodam Yat during the Sinestro Corps War, in Green Lantern Corps #16 (November 2007) (Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War #03). - Steppe: the Green Lantern from Helland who was devoured by Slushh during the War, Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Superman-Prime #1 (December 2007) (Green Lantern/Green Arrow Presents 14: Green Lantern #07). - Khufu and Chay-Ara: they are other legendary deaths. These Egyptian princes were killed by the priest Hath-Set who, jealous of their love, killed them with a Nth metal dagger. This started a cycle of reincarnations that would make their love live on through the centuries. Hawkman and Hawkgirl's souls are their own. - Arin Sur: Abin Sur's sister died, but we still don't know her story… - Terry Long: Like her baby, she died when she was traveling in a car and went off the road with fatal results, in Wonder Woman #121 (May 1997). Her daughter also died, I say this just in case she shows up somewhere, although I highly doubt it… - The Unknown Soldier: His case is complex. The character known by this name was presumed dead at the end of his first series (Unknown Soldier #268, October 1982), although it was clear that he only pretended to die. Over time he has appeared a couple of times, although he has never intervened openly, and his identity has only been suggested. In addition, the Tomb of the Unknowns is not in Washington, as indicated in the comic, but in Arlington, Virginia. In any case, he would not be the one buried in Washington, since there is surely someone unknown buried there. You could say that this is nothing more than a nice nod to those who know the character, and not really him.
For the second issue and the teins More black lantern Jack T. Chance: Killed by Parallax, in possession of Kyle Rayner, after weakening him by inflicting fear in Green Lantern #22 (Oct 2007) ( Green Lantern: War of the Sinestro Corps #02 ). - Tomar-Re: Died fighting Goldface during Crisis on Infinite Earths in Green Lantern #198 (Mar 1986). - Bzzd: Died defeating Mongul and thus saving his fellow Lanterns in Green Lantern Corps #26 (Sep 2008). - Hank Hall (Falcon): Died as the Existing villain, when Atom Smasher placed him in a crashing plane in JSA #15 (Oct 1999). - Don Hall (Paloma): died by sacrificing himself to save a child from falling debris in Crisis on Infinite Earths #12 (Mar 1986). - Dolphin: disappeared during the evacuation of Atlantis when it was destroyed by the Spectre during Infinite Crisis, but it was not until recently that his death was confirmed in Titans #15 (Sep 2009). - Tula (Aquagirl): died on Earth-4 in the battle against the villains commanded by Brainiac during Crisis on Infinite Earths, by submerging herself in waters contaminated by Chemo, in Crisis on Infinite Earths #10 (Jan 1986). - Kell Mossa (Outcast): He was immortal as long as there was a Multiverse, but with only one Earth in existence Alexander Luthor was able to kill him with just one shot in Villains United #6 (Dec 2005) ( Villains United ). - Crispus Allen (The Spectre): He was killed by Jim Corrigan, a corrupt forensic technician, in Gotham Central #38 (Feb 2006) ( Gotham Central #6 ), although since Infinite Crisis #4 (Mar 2006) ( Infinite Crisis #2 ). - Abin Sur: He is one of the characters whose death, due to the importance of his death, we never stop reliving the moment. The first time was in Showcase #22 (Oct 1959) (DC Classics: Green Lantern #1), and the last in Green Lantern #30 (Jun 2008) (Green Lantern #1), when his ship crashed on Earth and he gave his power ring to Hal Jordan. - Thomas and Martha Wayne: are others who we never stop seeing die. We saw Batman's parents die for the first time in Detective Comics #33 (Nov 1939), when they were assaulted by a robber at the exit of the theater, but the most mythical image, the one that has gone down in history, is the one in Batman #404 (Feb 1987), the first episode of Batman: Year One. - Roland Desmond (Blockbuster): was coldly executed by Tarantula with a shot to the head in Nightwing #93 (Jul 1994). - Arnold Wesker (the Ventriloquist): Killed by the Collector as part of the Great White Shark's plan to become the boss of Gotham's underworld. And broke Scarface's puppet, you bad guy. All in Detective Comics #818 (Jun 2006) (Batman: One Year Later). - Anatoli Knyazev (KGBeast): Killed by the Collector as part of the Great White Shark's plan to become the boss of Gotham's underworld. He had no puppets. Happened in Detective Comics #817 (May 2006) (Batman: One Year Later). - Margaret Pye (Magpie): Killed by the Collector as part of the Great White Shark's plan to become the boss of Gotham's underworld. She herself looked like a puppet. Happened in Batman #651 (May 2006) (Batman: One Year Later). - Edmund Dorrance (the Serpent King): Bane's father died in Batman: Gotham Knights #49 (Mar 2004). - Deacon Joseph Blackfire: died when the army of homeless people he commanded with religious fervor turned against him, in Batman: The Cult #4 (Nov 1988) ( Batman: The Cult ). - Tom and Tad Trigger (the Trigger Twins): were killed by the Vigilante's gunshots, during the Battle of Metropolis in Infinite Crisis #7 (Jun 2006) ( Infinite Crisis #4 ). - Arnold Etchinson (Slaughterhouse): died when Jean Paul Valley, as the new Batman, failed to prevent him from falling into a vat of molten metal in Shadow of the Bat #27 (May 1994) ( Batman Collectible #21 ). - John and Mary Grayson: are other illustrious deceased. Nightwing's parents were killed performing their stunt as the Flying Graysons, due to an accident arranged by Chief Zucco as part of his extortion of the Haley Circus. The first time occurred in Detective Comics #38 (Apr 1940). - Jack and Janet Drake: Red Robin's mother was poisoned by Lord Obeah, who had kidnapped the couple, in Detective Comics #621 (Sep 1990) ( DC Universe: Robin #1 ). His father was killed in a double trap by Calculator, defending himself from Captain Boomerang in Identity Crisis #5 (Dec 2004) ( Identity Crisis #3 ). - Kal-L (Earth-2 Superman): Died fighting Superboy Prime on the surface of Mogo in Infinite Crisis #7 (Jun 2006) ( Infinite Crisis #4 ). - Lois Lane (from Earth-2): died of old age in the arms of her beloved Kal-L on the restored Earth-2 in Infinite Crisis #5 (Apr 2006) (Infinite Crisis #3). - Jonathan Kent: died of a heart attack after s of Brainiac destroying her home in Action Comics #870 (Dec 2008) ( Superman #28 ). - Zor-El: Supergirl's father was killed by Reactron, possessor of a heart of golden kryptonite that deprives Kryptonians of their powers, in Supergirl #36 (Feb 2009). - Qull: was brutally murdered by Atrocitus, his fellow member of the Five Inversions, giving power to the newborn Red Power Battery in Green Lantern #28 (Apr 2008) ( Green Lantern/Green Arrow presents 18: Green Lantern #9 ). - Laira: was killed by Sinestro when, as a Red Lantern, she tried to kill Hal Jordan in Green Lantern #37 (Feb 2009). - Amon Sur: executed by Laira as revenge for his killing of Ke’Haan, in Green Lantern #26 (Feb 2008) ( Green Lantern/Green Arrow Presents 18: Green Lantern #9 ). - Blume, Glomulus, and all of Agent Orange’s constructs have died over the thousands of years Larfleeze has wielded the Light of Greed. - Tara Markov (Terra): died of her own uncontrolled powers, after betraying, defeating, and nearly killing her fellow Titans, at the climax of “The Judas Contract,” in Tales of the Teen Titans Annual #3 (Jul 1984) ( DC Classics: New Titans #13 ). - Lilith Clay (Omen): died with her neck broken at the hands of a Superman android activated by Indigo upon her arrival in our time in Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day #2 (Jul 2003) ( Titans / Young Justice: Graduation Day ). - Robert Long: Donna Troy and Terry Long’s baby died while riding in his father’s car when it went off the road with fatal results, in Wonder Woman #121 (May 1997). - The planet Xanshi: was destroyed by an aspect of the Anti-Life Equation, because the Green Lantern John Stewart sinned with pride and believed that his all-powerful ring made any help to stop it unnecessary… and found himself helpless before the vulnerability to the color yellow, in Cosmic Odyssey #2 (Dec 1988) ( DC Sagas #3: Cosmic Odyssey ).
I used to say it the same way most American fans do, until one day I listened to a podcast where the host met Ivan Reis at a convention and asked about the proper pronunciation. I just figure, if I love the guy's work so much, I should at least respect him enough to get his name right. I'm sure there are still a lot of creators who's names I mispronounce, but I'll happily correct my mistake once I learn the right way.
Blackest night is such a great story in my opinion
Blackest Night was the first GL comic I ever held and creeped the carp out of me. Didn’t let me sleep, I was a kid as a time. YESSSSSSSSSSSSS I'M SO HYPED FOR THIS SERIES NO ONE TOUCH ME. LARGE SODA LARGE POPCORN.
First comment, looking forward to your coverage of the Blackest Night. This is one of my favourite DC Events and it’ll be great to re-experience it this way.
This will probably the biggest series on this channel. Although i was hoping that Tales Of The Corps would be discussed.
One tie-in I’m surprised we never got was a hitman tie-in. Feels like a major missed opportunity
youre making me a green lantern fan, the binge was successful
Watching this while at work , gonna finish it with a bowl of popcorn at the house.
Keep the vids coming bro .
Loved that dead heroes splash page - it included a few surprises! At the time, I was like 'AZTEK??? NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!'
By any chance, do you ever think you'll make a video of the Marvel version of Green Lantern? I know there's a lot, and I wanted to ask: in your opinion, who's the closest character from Marvel comics that is like Green Lantern? Thank you, love your videos
I guess Nova?

As someone who read this with very little context, Barry not knowing who died and asking Hal was a great way to tell readers
My favorite event 🎉
The power of blackest night is clearly the characters, even if you don’t know them you can easily get involed with their pain
Thank you very much for these videos

- Henry King (Brainwave): died defeated in a telepathic battle against the Ultra-human, Infinity Inc. #10 (January 1985).

- Arin Sur: Abin Sur's sister died, but we still don't know her story…
- Terry Long: Like her baby, she died when she was traveling in a car and went off the road with fatal results, in Wonder Woman #121 (May 1997). Her daughter also died, I say this just in case she shows up somewhere, although I highly doubt it…
- The Unknown Soldier: His case is complex.

: O COOL
Blackest Night for October is a fitting choice!
Will you be covering Brightest Day afterwards?
I do plan to cover it, but not right away.
As a brazilian, I'm so glad you pronounced Ivan Reis' name as it's originally pronounced in Brasil
All this time I've been saying Ivan's name incorrectly
