Question: do I need to buy the new iPad or what iPad do you feel is good enough for the next few years regarding working with fresco. Thank you so much for your insight and I appreciate you. MCC
Thanks so much! I’m still rocking a 2021 iPad Pro with the M1 with no issues. I’ll upgrade to the new one, but only because I’m an Apple nerd. But even that didn’t make me want to upgrade to the last version. The iPad’s especially the Pros have been overpowered for a long time now. Also Fresco was built from the ground up for the iPad so it’s extremely well optimized for it. It runs fine even on my old iPad mini. I’d say any iPad with a M1 (and up) chip is going to be very solid and last many years without feeling underpowered. My wife is also an illustrator and has the M1 iPad Air and that works great too.
Hey ! Beginner artist here, (who honestly is not doing well financially) I am just wondering what options are good options for a more affordable ipad / tablet (i literally do my art on and iphone se) Thank you !
Hi! Non-pro model iPads have been able to use the Apple Pencil for a while now. And iPads have been very powerful for a while now too, so in my opinion the best budget option would be to find an older iPad used or refurbished with the first generation pencil. The original pencils worked just as well as the new ones they just charge a bit more clumsily. You can find what iPads work with the Apple Pencil here: support.apple.com/en-us/HT211029#:~:text=You%20can%20use%20Apple%20Pencil%20(1st%20generation)%20with%20these%20iPad,iPad%20(10th%20generation)* I have a mini in addition to my pro and I like drawing on it. I need this app for a school project, and I was wondering that if you could do a tutorial on this app but without a pen. Because my iPad doesn't have a pen. That would really help.
Hi, unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to get that done, but most of it should be the same, just without the precision and pressure sensitivity of the pencil.
Hello Chris, great video... I enjoyed watching this, I do have one rather big issue... ive been drawing an image... i use the bucket tool in areas of the image as youve demonstrated but... it continuous chooses to paint the full page with said color... I also tried using (paint within the lines) tool and that was completely ignored ... so i am very much on the verge of deleting the app and going back to illustrator but i dont suppose you know how or what option I can choose to amend this?
It sounds like you might need to lower the fill margin (the slider that pops up when you use the paint bucket), if that doesn’t work you may have inadvertently set a layer as a reference layer.
So.. I've been using procreate.. but your vids talked me into getting Fresco and I gotta say.. i think I like it better than procreate. I feel like it's more user friendly. I dunno. Good content.
Really cool. The integration with Adobe ecosystem is much like Apple's ecosystem of devices -- once you get a sip of it, you're hooked. Also, the gif-making capability is awesome!
Hey Chris, thank you for being the beacon of light that you are. You are a beacon of light. I'm brand new to Fresco and wondered if it's only photoshop brushes that are compatible or can you import illustrator brushes also? On stores like Retro Supply Co the PS brushes seem to be raster only and so for vector brushes I assume you would need to buy the Illustrator brushes to use in Fresco? Cheers!
Thanks so much! Unfortunately you can’t import illustrator or other vector brushes into Fresco. The only thing you can do it load presets, but those are limited in what can be achieved. I’m hoping someday we’ll be able to import illustrator brushes.
@@chris-piascik Thank you for the speedy response! You're brimming with light. A true beacon. No worries, I shan't lose sleep over it but good to know, thank you!
Hi there, could you tell me which brush package/bundle to buy for the classic anchor? I want to use it in fresco but I’m not sure under which category (photoshop or illustrator) the item is listed. Thanks for your help!:)
I'm researching which digital art program to use w a good learning curve. Thinking fresco, I already use Adobe for creating PR work. Can I use the Procreate templates in fresco? I'm not a fine artist, but I want to start making IG templates and brushes to make passive income.
As someone who is getting back into design, and now with an iPad (welcome to 2010!), do I bother learning Procreate or just go to Fresco? It seems like Illustrator but without the math.
Well Fresco does both pixel and vector, that’s one of my favorite parts. This video explains my feelings on Fresco vs procreate and may help you decide. They’re both great, and mostly do the same things.
@@chris-piascik My plan is to draw for vinyl and laser cutouts which means vector graphics wherever I can. We also want to make stickers and shirt designs which we can print and cut out afterward, so there will likely be some rasterized drawings as well, but if I'm working mostly in vector graphics, it may make sense to work with Fresco then. My wife is taking a course on Udemy on Procreate ($18 ftw) and I'm considering a course from either there or Skillshare. Thanks for replying. I've been loving your content as we prepare for something new!
I’m a huge fan of the iPad. I know they can be pricey, but they’ve been very capable for a long time so it easy to get refurbished previous models for an affordable price. For example, I still work professionally on an iPad Pro from 2021. The recent iPad Airs with the M1 chip are also a very viable option. I think Fresco is a great option because you can use it for free as you learn and if you decide you want to import your own brushes down the road you can upgrade to the full version for 9.99 per year.
@@chris-piascik Hi Chris, thanks for your advice, I was reading about M1 chip and is a powerful 8-core CPU. Cool. I'm checking Fresco too. I know vector and bitmap software, Why Do you like Fresco?
I've watched this multiple times (THANK YOU!) and am about to create a logo for a company and have maybe a basic question: Why would you want to have rastor AND vector art in the same file? Why not just go vector the whole time? Thanks for any insights!
The Vector file is good because it can be infinitely scaled without loosing its quality. You could start with the rastor file for sketching then use Fresco Vector Brushes for the final work. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks! @@chris-piascik I get that, but why not just use vector for everything? Is it that the vector brushes are less malleable? I would think using only vector would save time? Thoughts? THANK YOU! :)
I don’t have any experience with the free plan since I already have Adobe Creative Cloud so Fresco gets included with that. From what I hear, the free version has less creative cloud storage and you’re limited to 200 brushes. I *think* that’s it. One thing I’d note is that although it still says 9.99 per month in a lot of places online, the premium version of just Fresco is only 9.99 per year. I think the monthly plan comes with Photoshop and that one is 9.99 a month.
Hello, in Fresco, can we set individual start times for each moving object? For example, if I have two objects in motion, I would like the second one to start moving after the first one stops.
Great video! Is there an easy to just just select a layer? I imported a photoshop file with like.. 100 layers haha. I want to be able to easily be able to select a layer without having to dig through all the layers.
Great video! I'm very interested in learning Fresco now. Any suggestions on which sized iPad to buy? Are you using the 11" or the 12.9" iPad Pro? Would you recommend one over the other?
Thank you! I use the 12.9” iPad Pro, but I also like drawing on my iPad mini. I think that it comes down to preference. It’s so easy and intuitive to zoom in and out while working on an iPad that the screen size doesn’t seem to be a huge issue.
WOW thanks for the video! Question.. what would be the reason to ever use raster? Wouldn't you always want vector so you can modify the paths if you need to?
Glad you liked it! There’s some things that vector just can’t do, like realistic texture and subtle gradations in tone/texture. Both realism and natural analog texture style are both nearly impossible with vector.
My work doesn’t usually have smooth rendering and color transitions but there are default brushes that have opacity and blending settings to achieve that look.
Thanks for your tutorial! Some reason the bottom left of the screen is not responding to my brush Everywhere else I am able to draw Do you know why this would be?
@@chris-piascik have been using procreate last couple years watched tons of tutorials and still felt like I didn’t know how to use it to its full potential. Got fresco last night after watching your vids and feel like i already know more than i did in procreate. Really dope

Oh hmm, that's just a pattern I made. It's just my illustration style-but I'd say it's a mix of retro, cartoon, illustrative lettering.... I don't know if there any specific books aside from my own, but those are just pictures and not tutorials. I do have videos on this channel where I talk about my style and process if that helps.
I really like this demonstration video!! truly amazing! But I just can’t seem to merge my layers. Whenever I do animation it won’t let me for some reason? I think it only works with drawing but I don’t want to believe that. Can you do a video on this if you’re available?
Thank you! You can merge layers because it would flatten the animation, but you can group them! Just drag your animation layer onto the other one you want to combine it with. Then you’ll be able to move and transform them all together.
@@chris-piascik I’m sorry if you won’t be able to, but I tried that already and it made my animation have a few problems.. I really would like a video about the merging process for animation on fresco, but if you can’t, that’s fine I was just a little desperate at the time I really want to finish some animation on there..
@@chris-piascik i’m trying to copy and paste one of my characters eyes right? But then when I paste that one eye it becomes another layer but the problem is that I can’t merge that other eye down to the right eye so it can be easier for me to only edit the eyes only.. but together in unison.. you get what I’m saying? Like apps like FlipaClip allows you to copy and paste onto different layers but you’re able to merge the two layers down and only edit the two eyes at the same time.. but I can’t do that on Adobe Fresco I have to group them but when I do group them they’re still separate and I can’t even edit them the same way I can like on FlipaClip, etc… I don’t know this is my first time using fresco for its animation.. and I guess I’m just a little frustrated that it’s not something that I’m used to..

Thanks so much for this video. It was right to the point, and made me a user a fresco!
Glad it helped!
That was amazing. Liked and sub’d. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you so much for this! Very helpful 😃 Also your monster at the end made me laugh 😁
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really like your transformation and improvements from your first videos to now… your presentation skills and feel has become more viewable and I’ve definitely subscribed…. Well done on all your achievements. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you. I appreciate the feedback.
Hey! How do I make outlines around text so that I can paint inside those outlines to have a more cleaner look and finish??
I draw the outlines when I do that kind of thing, but if you use the vector brushes you can choose the outline brushes.
ahhh! so cool seeing my name all piascik'd up!
Glad you like it!!
So.. I've been using procreate.. but your vids talked me into getting Fresco and I gotta say.. i think I like it better than procreate. I feel like it's more user friendly. I dunno. Good content.
Thanks! fresco is a really app and Adobe keeps making it better all the time.
Thank you this really helps! By the way In adobe fresco can you Live Symmetry or Live Mirroir thing? I've been struggling to find it.
Thanks! Glad it was helpful! fresco doesn’t have symmetry currently, but I think it’s coming.
Hi Chris, what tablet do you use and which pen? Can you do it with an ipad pro and wacom pen?
I use an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. The Wacom pen won’t work on iPad screen
@@chris-piascik thanks so much!!
Thank you very much for this video. Your videos are the Best👍👍🤙
Thank you so much!!😎😎😎
Really cool. The integration with Adobe ecosystem is much like Apple's ecosystem of devices -- once you get a sip of it, you're hooked. Also, the gif-making capability is awesome!
Thanks!
Do you use certain settings on the basic vector brush in fresco?
I am pretty sure I just use the basic brush and adjust the smoothing as needed.
The classic inker? That’s in their liner set, fresco uses photoshop brushes.
Yes, the classic inker. Thank you for letting me know.
Is it also possible to install your illustrator brushes onto fresco?
I'm researching which digital art program to use w a good learning curve. Thinking fresco, I already use Adobe for creating PR work. Can I use the Procreate templates in fresco? I'm not a fine artist, but I want to start making IG templates and brushes to make passive income.
I think Fresco is definitely the most versatile. I’m not 100% sure about the templates as I don’t know what they are.
Hello Chris, I'm want to start with digital illustration, I have this question: What tablet and software would you recommend me?
@SatanisaBabyBoomer this video goes into detail about why I prefer fresco:

Thank you my dear. Your opening was sort of intense, but when you got into your obvious comfort zone I learned a great deal!
Hah sorry for the intensity.
very helpful tutorial. thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Thoughts? THANK YOU! :)
Do u have a tutorial on how to make brushes or fonts?
I do have a couple for fonts. But I haven’t really done much brush making.
Hi Chris, where can I buy a pair of good gloves for drawing like this? Any brand or materials recommended?
I just use random ones from Amazon bc I always lose them. Huion makes a decent one.
is the premium plan worth it? or can we survive just for free plan
Thank you very helpful for beginners!!
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Nice introduction to Fresco
Thanks ☺️
LOVE that skull drawing
Thank you ❤️💀
Thank you so much. I tried playing around for a while and was losing my mind on how to make a clipping mask >
Glad I could help!
Thank You Mr. Chris
Hello, in Fresco, can we set individual start times for each moving object? For example, if I have two objects in motion, I would like the second one to start moving after the first one stops.
Unfortunately not, but you can sometimes get around it by adding in blank frames at the beginning of a sequence you want to delay.
ok got it, thank you for your reply@@chris-piascik
Great video!
Is there an easy to just just select a layer? I imported a photoshop file with like.. 100 layers haha. I want to be able to easily be able to select a layer without having to dig through all the layers.
Hmm like autoselect in PS? That would be cool but I don’t know of a way to do anything similar.
WOW thanks for this awesome tutorial. It helps a lot.❤
So glad to hear!
Wonderful my name is Kirk! Thanks for going through all of this I love your work! 🎉
Thx Kirk. Let’s do a livestream soon.
pls help. How do you blend stuff? Like mix 2 colours so it's a smooth transition from one to the other.
My work doesn’t usually have smooth rendering and color transitions but there are default brushes that have opacity and blending settings to achieve that look.
Thanks for your tutorial!
Some reason the bottom left of the screen is not responding to my brush
Everywhere else I am able to draw
Do you know why this would be?
Glad it was helpful. Unfortunately I have no idea what could cause that unresponsiveness? Is a tablet? Maybe it needs to be recalibrated?
this shit is fire! Can’t wait for my designer journey!
Thank you Chris!
My pleasure!
How do you keep working from fresco and then on illustrator keeping the files vector?
You can send your fresco file directly to illustrator in the save/export menu.
Is the vector art that we do is printable on T-shirts ?
Yes, you can use it for anything. But it will work well for shirts.
Your videos are awesome much appreciated 🙏
Thanks so much!
@@chris-piascik have been using procreate last couple years watched tons of tutorials and still felt like I didn’t know how to use it to its full potential. Got fresco last night after watching your vids and feel like i already know more than i did in procreate. Really dope
That’s really great to hear! Thanks for letting me know.
Thank you great introduction
You are welcome!
start here 03:05
Great tutorial! thank you!
You're welcome!!!
How do you flip your art? Or flip the screen 😅 ❤ thanks for this video though fr
When you’re using the transform tool there’s an option to flip horizontally or vertically, I think it’s at the top right.
Which retrosupplyco brush set is the your classic inker from? Standard pens?
It’s the Liner set: www.retrosupply.co/collections/procreate-brushes/products/the-liner-brush-pack-for-procreate?rfsn=6814948.e3561c

Hey! Shoot me an email so we can figure out a time for your New BFF tier video chat! chris at chrispiascik.com (hopefully you’ll see this because YT doesn’t give your contact info) 😎
What would those sketches in your background be called? I want to learn how to sketch those, and am trying to find a book! Thanks
Hmm, What are you trying to do?
@@chris-piascik by the way, reload your UA-cam, because there was a lot of typos in the comment I just posted I just edit it for you so you can reread it.
This was great-my favorite part was when you “turned down the wut?!”
lol thanks!
Hello, what is the similar option for Android to Fresco? Thanks
