Please give the airline lots of notice that you will be bringing your dog. I’m a guide dog user and I always book through the airlines medical help desk. This way if someone has allergies or is afraid of dogs, they have every opportunity to choose a different flight. If someone’s allergies are serious, it’s their responsibility to check with the airline. This way everyone has a good flight. There’s no need to case issues when common courtesy can prevent them. I always freshly bathe my guide dog before flying and carry dog dander wipes to use so that dog hair and dander aren’t going to bother the next passenger. My guide dog is completely necessary for me to have a normal life and is considered medical equipment. I have every right to have him with me. BUT that doesn’t mean I can’t be cooperative and considerate.

We have a corgi that is just like Willow. He is 30 lbs and would never fit into SW’s specific size restrictions. Since Covid, we cannot fly with our corgi. USA doesn’t recognize ESA. Our corgi is a great ESA for a marine who struggles with PTSD ❤ I treat him like my son 😊

In the uk I wasn’t allowed to walk my dog at all in the airport. There are no pet relief areas either! I took her to the disabled toilet & let her walk about. Thankfully She didn’t pee for the entire 12 hour journey!

My carrier is bigger than the airlines requirements. My dog is 25lbs and has flown with me 6 times with Southwest. I’ve only been questioned about the size once by the counter employee. Once you pay and get through the counter process nobody bothers to question you. Just make sure your dog is somewhat behaved.

The same here, my dog is now 20 pounds, plus carrier. Some airlines allow 22 pounds. I am in Canada, Air Canada does allow up to 22 pounds. But, I am still nervous.
So I got an update on this. Spirit Airlines in the USA said 40lb. But the website says otherwise. My Shit tzu with the bag was around 17lb. She was great but couldn't keep in the bag. Snuck her on the side of me. Always get Window seat if this situation happens to you. She was quiet the entire flight.
With Southwest the dog carrier counts as one piece of carry on luggage. So I was only able to take a back pack (personal item) and my dog carrier. Anything extra you’ll have to pay a fee.
Dogs are very clever, and hopefully we’ll trained. And owners need to know their dogs. You take them for a nice walk before the flight. They gave a chance to the business. Mine held it until we landed, it was a cross Atlantic flight, two legs of the trip.

It’s really up to the employee’s discretion as most dogs are bigger than the dimensions the airlines post on their website. I’m always super nice and have only had one employee question me but ultimately let me board.

Opening it up during flight is also an absolute no go. I really hope next time an airline ground agent sees this, they’ll have the guts to simply deny you from boarding. There is no registration or certification for ESAs and Service dogs. You got scammed.

Pets are allowed anywhere they aren’t forbidden. The airport can set its own rules regarding pets; you don’t get to.
