  • I wanted to share my experience on flying with my service dog, I tried to get as much on video so that all of you could see what it's like getting on the plane and going through security.
    I hope this video helps prepare anyone who is going to be flying with their dog.

    This was the most in depth blog of flying with a SD that I’ve seen yet! The footage of going through security was really helpful, we’ve flown twice but neither times have they patted him down. I always thought that meant patting down my dogs body, it’s good to know what to expect!💛

    I thought I would mention that there are many ways of going through security, do what works for you. Here are some options:
    1) do what she did, vest on, no leash and recall with a pat down
    2) vest off, naked doggo and recall, no pat down.
    3) this is what I do with my SD, gear off, use a slip leash that doesn’t have metal (sometimes they say for you to go through at the same time) even though my boy had a solid recall, I just prefer to always be connected to him.
    These aren’t the only ways, do what works for you, your dog and your disability.

Unfortunately, the stress from the plane and then staying in a house with a rather dominant dog triggered her to get addison’s disease. She spent christmas week in the ICU and is now living her best retired life with my mentor who has a large backyard (I live in dorms).

    Thanks for a very interesting video.
    I’m currently waiting for my dog but I’m definitely going to train it to go potty on a disposable potty mat for situations like this.
    Also, as someone who once witnessed an elderly woman getting her upper arm skinned when she fell getting off of an escalator, it was super scary for me to see Dallas on one.
    I will advise anyone with a dog to take either the regular stairs or an elevator if the dog is to big to carry.
    Escalators can inflict horrific injuries if you are unlucky, that’s why children are not allowed to play on them.

    Pet owner are NOT required to keep their animals in carries the whole time they are in the airports. They are however required to keep them under control. We fly with my service dog every few weeks and we have seen all kind of things. I'm sorry to hear that the pet relief area was unclean. If you ever fly to DFW, they have some of the cleanest, best smelling pet relief areas I have ever seen and thankfully my dog can potty on command so we don't have to spend much time in those. :)

      I can’t even believe how gross some of the pet relief areas get. U would think they never clean them. The first one was very nice and clean just very small.
      I did read that pets are required to stay in their carrier at all times unless they are using the relief area, I read that on Southwest Airlines site. I would think that should be a requirement due to all the issues people have with pets at airports. But maybe I’m wrong 🤷🏼‍♀️

    having a "go" command is really essential to sd so can go on command before stores etc. Otherwise, its just whenever you happen to before entering places. this is the first time ever heard of a sd not trained for this. all organizations trained sd have that command already. id consider training that very much. id also work more on the dogs sniffing the floor and stuff while working and such. dont see sd do that ether unless given permission not just because you dont catch it and correct them. thats very important for sd to be good on aso. the sniffing thing, sure there not robots but she did it early in and several times. more then you expect a sd

      @dallastheservicedoodle7236  Рік тому

      I am sorry, if u are moving to the United States there is no legit service dog certification or registration (those are scams). Airlines in America do not accept those bc the department of justice does not recognize them as proof the dog is a service dog.
      Emotional support animals or pets cannot fly in the cabin without a fee and they must be small enough to fit inside of a carrier. If they are not small enough then they cannot fly in the cabin, and you will have to contact the airline about other options they have available.
      People cannot just call an ESA a service dog just so they can fly with them for free. There are policies in place to help prevent people from doing that. I am sorry but if the dog is an ESA not legitimate fully trained service dog then you will have to contact the airline for other options.

      What I did was I googled department of transportation service animal form. Then I printed it and filled it out and singed it. The date that u sign it with must be any date after the time u bought your ticket for that flight

    It’s a good video however be mindful on escalators with your service dog if they’re not wearing boots. That’s dangerous what you did going on without protection on their paws. Not trying to sound rude but their paws could get hurt without wearing boots. 2:29

      @dallastheservicedoodle7236  Рік тому +2

      I understand that it can be dangerous for their paws. Escalators were part of her training that she went through and we were both trained how to best do it. I would put boots on her however she doesn’t do well in boots at all bc she is extremely gear shy.

    What is that deportation form ? How do I get it ? If you self train your dog

    • @dallastheservicedoodle7236
      @dallastheservicedoodle7236  10 місяців тому

      The DOT form is the department of transportation form. You get it off of department of transportation.gov website and u fill it out accordingly then bring it when it is time for you to check in for your flight. The dog must be fully trained in public access and able to preform a task to assist u with your disability.

      Check with your vet depending on breed just to make sure. Pugs have a real problem with it. However I never heard of a Pug as a service dog but my nephew’s Pug is for him. Very well done video. Great job and very helpful!👍🏻

    Is it true that bigger dogs have to get flown in a cart on a separate flight? You think an Airedale Terrier would be allowed on the flight with their owner? Looking to avoid having a dog be cramped up in complete darkness treated like trash

    • @dallastheservicedoodle7236
      @dallastheservicedoodle7236  Рік тому

      So for pets if the dog is bigger than the requirements to fit in a carry on cage then they have to basically be checked and they do not fly in the cabin with u. For service dogs it is different. Service dogs are not pets and they are allowed to fly in the cabin without having to be caged bc they are highly trained. I’m not sure though if there is still a requirement size wise. Bc a 200 lbs Irish wolf hound would obviously not fit on the plane. But my 70 lbs doodle was allowed on bc she can lay at my feet without disturbing others

      I haven’t had this problem, I assume on longer flights this could be an issue for some. I have heard some people say they bring potty pads on the plane in case the dog is going to have an accident.

      It depends on the situation. If the dogs out of control or aggressive they have the right to deny them. But if they let out one bark or u have to tell them something more than once that’s totally okay. They just have to be under control

      I have heard people say it, but never to me. Honestly I wouldn’t care if they said it to me bc it’s a ridiculous thing to say. I don’t mind if she looks at other dogs or even other distractions as long as she’s still under my control. I just use it as a training exercise.
      But I wouldn’t worry about people judging u. Half the time of u run into another team y’all will both be so focused on your dog u probs won’t even realize if the other dog is distracted. At least that’s my experience
