I have autism and this show makes me so, so happy. I am only fourteen years-old, but that's a whole fourteen years that I have lived without ever seeing someone like me, and now I finally get to relate to someone.
whytedaises From what I have seen so far, it seems pretty accurate, though I think the main character of the Korean version is more non-verbal. It does seem to be pretty good, though! Of course no neurotypical person can completely nail what autism is like and I cannot speak for everyone on the spectrum, but I think both shows are pretty close to accurate representation ^-^
Same ! I'm 15 years old. I've been diagnosed with ASD and it feels like he's not making seem like a real problem and it feels as I can be celebrated and we see the world amazingly sometimes. Feels amazing to have someone like me on tv .
Thank for replying. I'm curious because in Asian culture- its taboo when you have a child who is mentally/behaviorally ill. They don't have the support and awareness like the US or European countries. I have two cousins who are autistic as well. One is in college, doing pretty good and communicates well. My other cousin, I have not heard him speak in sentences at all. I know my uncle and aunt are exhausted with him every day because he doesn't sit still and wails. People look at them and think they don't discipline their kids, but you really do that to a child with mental/behavior issues. His attention is really short but my goodness, when he draws- you just need to give him a few minutes to look at it- its gorgeous.
I watched him closely on the Netflix *Bates motel*...he did a superb job on that series!! 😮 ..I bought season 1 and in three days, that DVD was done😮 I went ahead bought season 2 weeks later...still impressed!!
You can hear the intelligence in his voice. He seems to be a very introspective young man. I really love him from all the characters that he played, Norman and Shaun will always have a place in my heart. And oh, Charlie too. 😊
@GuiltyUntillProvenSober not necessarily. Giving the role to a person who is not autistic makes the actor and the people around him relate more to the people who are autistic.
My son is on the autism spectrum. When The Good Doctor was announced to be being made for TV here, I was a little skeptical. I was worried it'd be some romantic relationship-filled drama. I didn't know how well Shaun would be portrayed. I also hadn't realized that I had seen Freddie Highmore in so many things, until I looked him up and realized I'd been watching his work since he was young. Now that we're 7 episodes into the season, I can say that I absolutely love the show, and I will be forever thankful for it. Freddie is phenomenal. Every episode, I cry. It's just.. it's fantastic, and I am so glad it's been brought to TV here.
It took me 2 episodes in to like it, but I really like it too. I really think there have been some good episodes and I think Freddie is going a great job in the role. It's pretty accurate although I can't say for sure about the Savant Syndrome. Never met anyone in real life with that.
Flabby Abby He joked in one interview that it was his penance for all the killing - and eerily enough, in one of the "Good Doctor" episodes, the story has an ex-assassin doing the same.😳
I love the show. Freddie is really good, and I do relate with Shaun. It's al very recognizable. I hope many people watch it and also learn from it. It is very important that people look at our strengths instead of only the things we're not good at.
I started watching this show before my son was born and he ended up being autistic. Now continuing to watch it while raising an autistic child gives me so much respect for Freddie as an actor. He has so much respect for the autism community, and its so lovely. I hope he wins an award for it. Truly amazing.
Well just so he knows his character surely defines so many of my experiences. I'd say in all 6 episodes I've watched so far, I've encountered all the things and feelings that have been portrayed by his character! It's just so relatable! The most relatable thing I've seen in my life!
I saw the first episode of TGD, and was absolutely floored! I've been researching Asperger's syndrome for 10 years, and I am working toward getting the diagnosis my mother never got me. Seeing the show made me cry because it was so real... And he does well, so much so that I genuinely sometimes forget that Highmore is NOT Autistic. I related so strongly to the character, that I actually picked up a less painful variant of one of his stims, from when he started screaming about not wanting therapy. That episode made me fall into a meltdown due to emotional overload, and I started hitting my hands together the same way he did to his head... I don't pick up stims that easily. But that should probably tell you something lol
He is alsome and have this beautiful child face intact. Every work he does it's a master piece and I really cry a lot. I feel like I know him, because he is apparently shy and serious. I am a fan and I which a beautiful and long season for the good doctor!
In my opinion he does a amazing job because my cousin has autism. I also have vary slight autism i dont process things the same as others so... Yeah he does a wonderful job and on top of that the American accent is amazing as well
I write on Facebook about this show Every week, it's amazing! Sometime I believe this is real. I can't remember seeing him before but I love him now. God Bless his success!
what is interesting about this show besides Freddie? I loved him in Bates Motel and want to see more of him but all TGD promos and trailers seems boring to me
+Say Yay The show is actually incredible. Don't judge it so much on the trailers or promos. I started the show not knowing much about the actors, I didn't even know Freddie Highmore, but the storyline is impeccable. The show itself is real, heart breaking, and amazing, in my opinion of course. And obviously Freddie is incredible at his role and I fell in love with his character, only 5 episodes in.
I haven't watched it yet but what I can say is my 19 year old brother is on the spectrum and just watching clips makes me happy. My brother is one of the smartest people I know he knew his states and capitals at 3 and as a teen he could tell you every single world capital the amount of knowledge is incredible. But socially he is a dork hahaha I love him so much he has not a care in the world of what others like or want and he is a ticking time bomb so this shows literally an exact description of my brother who is my world
He seems so down to earth which is nice to see in a talented actor like him. I personally love the good doctor, for two reasons. 1) my mother worked for the NHS for many years, cared for patients and worked in theatre helping the surgeons out, so the premise of the show reminds me of my caring mother. 2) my wonderful husband to be is on the spectrum, Aspergers he has and when we watch the show and how Shawn has come so far on his journey to be a Great doctor, I think of my man. I love how he has his quirks like Shawn, also he likes how they develop Shawn over the seasons and in certain situations he can relate to Shawn. That’s my reasons lol
I’m usually not a big fan of medical shows or hospital dramas, but I reluctantly started watching it with my wife a few months back on Hulu. I ended up loving the show and we often find ourselves watching multiple episodes sometimes! Right now we are about halfway through season 5.
I love Freddie. I'm a big fan, and I love this show because it's unique. I love how relatable Shaun is. Even though I don't have Autism, I see a lot in him that I recognize in myself at times. Sometimes I feel protective, other times I'm cheering him on. This show is such a treat.
I was afraid to watch this show because I thought it would make me sad. The love of my life, my grandson, it autistic. Today I watched the first episode and I loved you and now I'm hooked. Can't wait to see all the other episodes. This actor is very talented.
I LOVE THIS SHOW TOO FREDDIE HIGHMORE KNOCKS IT OUT OF THE PARK HE HAS AUTISM DOWN TO A T I SHOULD KNOW MY 1 DAUGHTER IS AUTISTIC THE NOISES NO EYE CONTACT NO TOUCHING NO LOUD NOISES HE REALLY IS A FANTASTIC ACTOR PHENOMENAL DEFINITELY A VERY DIFFICULT ROLE IM SURE TO PLAY BRAVO FREDDIE OR DR SHAUN MURPHEY
Not only I love Freddie Highmore but also the good doctor because I have autism and the show inspired me to have confidence so I can use it when I do acting again.
The Good Doctor is an American medical-drama television series, developed by David Shore, based on the 2013 South Korean series of the same name. The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios, with Shore serving as showrunner. The series began airing on ABC on September 25, 2017.
FREDDIE IS SO SMART AND WISE. I URGE HIM TO READ THE REAL LIFE ACCOUNT OF "THE ITALIAN BOY" IT WOULD MAKE A GREAT ALMOST HORROR STORY. FREDDIE WOULD BE PERFECT FOR THE CHARACTER OF MAY !
At 5:35 Freddie describes how good Johnny Depp is that he brings something to the character and is bold, well all those things are true even for Freddie himself
People should ask about how it's an adaptation of the Korean show Good Doctor. I love Freddie so much though!! I have since Charlie and was a worshipper of Bates Motel since the first episode!! Well done on this show...he's an angel!!
Can people stop comparing him to when he was a kid actor and always bringing up his childhood movies...Those where great but now he has developed so much and matured to a great actor now! Why not mention his current projects? And stop referring to his childhood ones....
terri harvey ya I notice in a couple of interviews when they mention those movie Freddie doesn’t seem quite excited and is more of just like “yup that’s me”
He is so eloquent, so soft-spoken, and charming. He takes every role he does so seriously. This world needs more people like him.
he supports autism speaks
I have autism and this show makes me so, so happy. I am only fourteen years-old, but that's a whole fourteen years that I have lived without ever seeing someone like me, and now I finally get to relate to someone.
I'm curious if you seen the Korean version. Maybe try the first or two episodes? I would like to know your take on their understanding of autism.
whytedaises From what I have seen so far, it seems pretty accurate, though I think the main character of the Korean version is more non-verbal. It does seem to be pretty good, though! I'm glad to hear that. I know it's hard to find characters you can relate to, so I'm glad I'm supporting a good show that makes you happy :)
Freddie Highmore does a good job on every character he plays
I wonder if he had to study the behaviors of autism like Leo D did for Gilbert grape?
@@krystalharwood1807 He only had 3 days from being told he had the part to starting.
I watched him closely on the Netflix *Bates motel*...he did a superb job on that series!! 😮

Arj Abela Ah yes! And August Rush is the reason I started loving music !! And why I play the cello 😊
maria jose cruz aww great for you! 😊
@GuiltyUntillProvenSober not necessarily. Giving the role to a person who is not autistic makes the actor and the people around him relate more to the people who are autistic.
I’m so happy that Freddie high more is in the good doctor, he’s such a talented actor.
JayTFun so am I!! He makes the show
JayTFun He's amazing. Bates Motel was awesome, he even directed some episodes.
He is so pure.. I love him.
I do to. I want to find a guy with a pure heart

The autistic portrayal in it is fundamentally ableist 👍
@@Hobbitbot3000 why so? kindly elaborate , I wish to learn.
I could listen to him speak all day
Jade he is always The Charlie to me 😢
I’m listening to him still now. I’ll never get tired of that voice.
*I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH AND HE IS TALENTED*

Yes! I am loving the show. He’s so cute and sweet.
for anyone who hasn't watched this show yet.. it is FABULOUS ..do yourself a favor and watch from the first episode.. you'll thank me later ✌🏻

he is just the cutest lil' bean
it's funny that in one show he plays a crazy kid who kills people and in another show he is a surgeon who helps save people
Flabby Abby He joked in one interview that it was his penance for all the killing - and eerily enough, in one of the "Good Doctor" episodes, the story has an ex-assassin doing the same.😳
What if norman bate and shaun murphy are the same guy like Jekyll and Hyde 😨
More to irony
I like how confused he looked when she said close up on his face
Freddie!
How talented you are!
Such a beautiful actor.
@ Julie k : You are absolutely right on both counts.
I am absolutely obsessed with " the Good Doctor " and Freddie Highmore.. He is sooo talented
I have Aspergers high functioning autism and I love the Good Doctor one of my favorite shows.
The look he gives at the end was very Norman Bates haha! But yeah Freddie is great! Love the show!
I love the show. Freddie is really good, and I do relate with Shaun. It's al very recognizable. I hope many people watch it and also learn from it. It is very important that people look at our strengths instead of only the things we're not good at.

He is an absolute gem. I adore him in The Good Doctor!
He had an accent! I never knew ! Haha but he plays all actors so well
Haven't you seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?
An accent? He’s British.
I love you Freddie.

The most talented actor on tv. So much respect and kindness you dont see this anymore.
I love The Good Doctor. I have Autism, I can relate to this show well. Freddie Highmore is fantastic in this show.

I am glad that ABC is doing this program. I have autism and I can relate to some of Shaun Murphy.

I watched them while they're were filming a bit of this show when I was up visiting Vancouver last month.
I was afraid to watch this show because I thought it would make me sad. The love of my life, my grandson, it autistic. Today I watched the first episode and I loved you and now I'm hooked. Can't wait to see all the other episodes. This actor is very talented.

Now, if only they'd stop supporting autism $peaks... They're a terrible group
This series is unique. It's like a breath of fresh air. I will probably watch this till the end.
I’m not sure if he’s a psychopath or a really great actor
lmao!!!!!!!!!!!! What's so funny is---is it true? Is he really norman bates or just a good killer? XD
@GuiltyUntillProvenSober I'm pretty sure no one thinks of Shaun in the context of Norman Bates
His character is one of the most brilliant performances I've ever seen...
love him. he is smart and talented..

So eloquent Freddie

"Evan doesn't have cancer" WAS MY FAVORITE PART
He's so sweet and charming but I sense that he could be a straight up player with the ladies lol.
Lol. 😅
