Love Baccarat 540. I also your pronunciation of it!! You’re right, when I wear this perfume I get a lot of compliments by men and women. I have bought the extrait before, which is also beautiful, but not as unique smelling as the original. I have tried dupes like Ariana Grande Cloud, which I like, it’s a nice bedtime fragrance. When I want my fragrance to last all day long without touching up, and smell amazing I usually spray Baccarat 540.
LOVE it, researched it, purchased it as a special souvenir in Paris. My first luxury purchase ever.
I bought the extrait version. Of the 70 perfume scents I own, this is the one that receives non stop compliments when I am out in public. Yesterday a lady told me I smelled delicious and she just wanted to stay next to me all day.

It was generously given to me by a friend who didn't like it and I was so ecstatic to receive it. But, alas, it didn't knock me off my feet. It's a nice scent for sure but I don't see it as spectacular. On the other hand, Silk Mood (Extrait)) and Grand Soir are truly exceptional, IMO.

I came from a certain lady's video who put this in the most hated list and migraine inducer, and I was shocked but you are right it's a very polarising scent. I for one love it.

This scent is just something else! You are certainly correct when you say this scent takes you into a baccarat rouge bubble. It really does take over your surroundings and that’s why a little goes a long way! This is a compliment magnet but ON ANOTHER LEVEL! Strangers go crazy over this scent when I go out and I’m always getting chased down the streets and on subway by people! I think everyone needs to try out this scent because it really will change your life!
I agree. I also love the fact that the EDP is so airy that it never overwhelms. Just leaves a light scent trail.

For the opening, I get bitter, almost clinical scent of cracking a green coconut open, (oh, I find this addictive), and then the same apple candy smell Josephine describes. Am I the only one that puts this scent in the same family as "Gucci Rush"? The sort of chemical side to it reminds me of it, as if they were cousins. When people say it's unique etc I find that Gucci Rush was perhaps a forerunner...When I wear it people smell it on me, but I stop smelling it quickly, so I prefer the extrait, which I can smell myself all along. The best dupe I've found was All Saints wonderfully named "Sunset Riot". Love your reviews and your style, Josephine, you are so professional and polite yet likeable and "light". It’s so funny, i don’t know if any perfume is worth that price tag, but sometimes we just need to spoil ourselves. Before I even finished the EDP I bought the extrait, and I’m enjoying both of them. I don’t care if people say it’s popular…I really don’t smell it on others often anyway.
I first didn’t know what to make of it, left it on the side for a while and was nearly going to get rid of the tester, when I got a new whiff. Dear God! I was transported to fragrance heaven like never before!! I layer it on top of baccarat rouge body oil. I’ve never looked back and laugh at people who say don’t wear it because too many people do. There is a reason for that; it’s like no other perfume!🥰🥰🥰

I got mine in the mail today, I've been wanting it for three years but just couldn't justify the price. I kept buying samples of it and finally broke down and got it during Saks sale last weekend. I love it so much! I didn't like the extrait on myself, so happy I tested it first.

Thank you Josephine. I bought the dupe you recommended (Tinhare by Le Couvert Des Minimes). I enjoy wearing it and it's good enough for my needs so I'm not going to splurge on the original. In due course I may get the scented body oil.

I agree that the dupes aren't comparable. Ive tried the ALT version, ariana grande cloud, and burberry her. I found ALT really alcoholic and smelled gross after a while, cloud doesn't last more than an hour on me, burberry her is just not that similar. There is just no real competition for BR540. Its one fragrance i can say is worth the high price.
5TH THING YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY: Some people are anosmic to this perfume (i.e. they don't smell anything) or , as is my case, only smell ambroxan. I don't get any of the sweetness, complexity and refinement she mentions, only a subtle whisper of ambroxan. That's it. So, be warned. DO NOT BLIND BUY AND TRY ON THE SKIN!
I purchased a sample from a reliable online source and wore it today. It's still hot here in SW Florida and I had used only unscented body wash and lotion so nothing could interfere with the sacred liquid. My husband and friends did not say a word about me smelling good or bad. I could barely smell it on myself even a few hours later. When I got home again, I sprayed my wrists, inside elbow and neck again. A faint smell of sugar is all I get. I typically like strong, unique scents and am completely underwhelmed so far.
@Me Myself I can barely smell it on me. I also asked my husband and daughter just now and they didn't think it was anything special.

I am merely saying that it isn't working for me and my body chemistry which may be helpful to others considering a purchase. If every perfume worked the same on everyone, it would be very boring and no need for so many choices.

The first time I smelt it was on my friend, so I decided to get it. It’s annoying how I can’t even smell it on my skin /clothes.
I wore this perfume the other day at work just to see if other people would smell it on me and yes, definitely they did; they absolutely loved it! At least 2 people were curious what i was wearing

I got a sample of it from Microperfumes expecting it to be a very strong scent, and it has that light and airy quality to it, was surprised with how mild it was initially. What I like about it the most is the jasmine top note and it has a bit of woodiness to it, but it's not as overpowering as Fredrick Malle's Portrait of a Lady, which I tried two sprays of and it traveled straight across the room and it was overpowering for my husband.
I finally broke and bought BR 540, I immediately sprayed it on my arm and literally got nothing. I almost started crying,, but decided to do a deep dive on UA-cam to find out why?? apparently its a molecular frag,, and not everyone can smell it. someones advice was to try it a few more times then put it away for a week and try again. after doing that I was in fact able to smell it but I really don't think I am able to smell ALL of the notes because I do not get the sweet element at all as most other people can and I do get compliments. however, if I want to enjoy myself and smell myself, I have to layer it with something else. weird situation but Im not mad at it, what I CAN smell I like.

Yes! BR540 sooo good! It does last a very long time, but I don't see that it projects like everybody says! To me, it seems that it acts as a skin scent, it is so gentle! I wish I could smell that cloud around me as you say! It makes me a little sad I must admit...this fragrance is a hard one to figure out! 💟
A skin scent! My goodness you must be subject to olfactory fatigue... trust me on this it’s anything but a skin scent! Someone walked passed me the other day on the street and I immediately noticed she was wearing this fragrance!
I had this same feeling and went for the extrait version. In the opening you will smell the almond but in the dry down it smells like the edp. And when you will sniff yourself you can actually smell it.

@@isabelallard2674 Before you buy it, I would first try out a sample of the extrait. Because every skin is different. What works for me may not work for you. I did order both samples of the edp and the extrait. While spraying the edp I did smell it but after suddenly it was gone. It felt as if I did not spray anything on my skin at all. I guess it's more of a molecule kind of perfume. But on my skin it did not last. The extrait on the other hand....when I sprayed this...I could smell it on myself and in the room. There was a cloud of extrait😄. It's more potent and stronger....in the dry down the extrait become the edp. So my advice is to play with both and see which works better on you. And you can always wait for a discount offer or when there is a black friday. The perfume will be a little cheaper.

I really love how short yet informative your review on BR540 is. Would you consider doing in depth reviews on some of your favourite MFK lines ( similar to the Jo Malone one)? There are many others like 754, lumiere noire femme, amyris, grand soir, etc.
Would love to hear your thoughts on them since there were mixed comments in fragrantica. It seems that the main selling power of MFK (in my country) is ironically its exorbitant price tag and scarcity, to a certain degree.(i.e. people around here will just buy because "expensive = must be good" fallacy.)

I started wearing BR 540 long before it went viral and became main stream. I still enjoy it but I am worried they might have watered it down… the packing (box) has become less luxurious compared to the early days but that is just a minor detail. BR is the most complimented fragrance I have ever wore.

I was finally able to smell this today. It smelled so familiar and then it hit me. I have a hair perfume by Pacifica called dream moon smells just like it. Like to the T and that stuff lasts in my hair all day and it’s only $12 🤣
It’s sweet and smells like cotton candy
So I literally just got received this perfume in the mail today from Ebay. I got the 2.2 oz bottle for a phenomenal price, so I knew if I didn't like it I would be able to re-sell. All I can say, though, is MY GOODNESS! This scent is light as air, with a spun-sugar sweetness, a touch of salt, and glitter of gorgeous rose. At least, that's what I've smelled of it in the first half hour.
While this is a perfume I have principally heard described as sweet, it is NOT cloying. It floats lightly in the air. Some have compared it to Burberry Her...well, I already have that perfume...other than a hint of strawberry it's nothing like it. Burberry Her is much heavier and fruitier. It's nice but very different and not nearly as classy.
I think I'm going to enjoy this very much.

I ordered the sample to try and i dont know if i instantly became no blind to it but i cant smell much on my skin like my other perfumes. my husband could smell it instantly when he came in the house i can smell it while i am just sitting it makes a bubble around you that is for sure. i dont get alot of sweet but it smells like a hospital or oral surgeon office. very medicinal but also sweet but im addicted do i have an old same i just got it in the mail so shouldnt be. it smells like menthol and cotton candy or nitruce but i like it am i freak? do you know people who said the same?

You must try DUA’s Casino Royale Nights. Exactly the same juice in a different bottle. I would recommend doing a side by side. I actually get more compliments on DUA’s version than BR 540

I smelt this a few months ago and there was a lady in the store buying a HUGE bottle of it for $650.00!
So I thought I better smell it as the lady said it’s the only perfume she wears now because everyone compliments her on it
I smelt it and got straight up toffee smell
It did change after a while but still sweet is how I would describe it
And it lingered in my car after I got out
I wasn’t impressed really as it was a bit boring
I did smell and purchase carnal flower that day though and I was blown away by that fragrance

Hi Josephine, I hope you could help me out.... 🙏 I cannot recognise what is the specific note in this fragrance that bothers me 🤔 it seems to me a very prominent one, really masculine and dry, sort of suffocating note 🙄 it lingers in a backgroud of the perfume even at the drydown. I have checked listed notes of Baccarat Rouge 540 : saffron and jasmine., ambergris and amberwood and the base notes are cedar and fir resin. None of them seem like the note I get there. If you could share your knowledge and help me identify the „dry masculine effect” I would be very grateful 🤗 Best Regrads 🌺🌸 Joanne

Performance monster. Nothing else I own even comes close, it's been nearly 26 hours since I last applied it on skin and I STILL smell it radiating from the crux of my elbows. I try an avoid the neck/throat to avoid going anosmic to it

I tested this on my skin while I was in the store because I was curious on what it smell like. I don't know why but it smelled so bad on me to a point I wanted to gag. I really wanted to love it.
How many sprays and where do you all spray this for longest effect that's not too overwhelming?
I bought a $400. Bottle of Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait at a very reputable Dept. store and it smells nice when I first put it on but after anbout 10 minutes the scent is completely gone. I have never worn an entire “pump” before, with any cologne, always dabbing it with a tissue. But with this one I bathe in it. Today at 2:00 I sprayed 10 pumps on. When I got to my sisters at 5 or 6 neither of us could smell it. All that was left was oily spots on my top. This was sealed into 2 separate cellophane packages so it most assuredly came from the factory this way. Here’s my thoughts on what they’re doing. Get people excited about this fragrance and then cut back on the sent material. You can produce twice as much you make twice as much money just thinking………

Moi qui à la base déteste les gourmands je trouve que la touche sucrée ajoute le côté sexy à un parfum très classe, et très complexe, qui présente des notes dans beaucoup de familles: un peu fruité (mûre ?), un peu fleuri, un peu aquatique, un peu boisé ... bref, dieu sait que je suis compliquée et que j'erre depuis des années dans les grandes enseignes de parfum à la recherche de ma senteur de coeur sans rien trouver (c'est pourquoi je me suis intéressée tout récemment à la parfumerie de niche) et là .... c'est un coup de foudre :D !
