When I first smelled Baccarat Rouge 540 EDP I couldn't smell anithing, just alcohol. And I was like, why do people go crazy over this. And then I tried it few more tiimes in the store and suddenly I have detected a slight ambergris with some sugar sweetnes. And it had lingered on my clothes for days. Now it is one of my favorite fragrances.
I've had same experience. I didn't get why people say it smells sweet like a burnt sugar and it took couple hours after I sprayed it to pop. now I like it!
I didn’t like the EDP at first and then bought it.... Then bought the Ext version and then bought the Oud moods Silk, Cashmere, Velvet, Oud.... it’s turned into a mad addiction which I like!!! MFK house is amazing 👌🏽
Fantastic review and comparison. I took my time with samples of both the EDP and Extrait and decided to go with the EDP. It seems to evolve better and offer a peek-a-boo effect that I really love. The EDP has more of what I have seen people describe as the latex accord… and I like it. It’s sterile and offers a freshness that is needed with such a sweet fragrance. The Extrait version is much more straightforward, creamy and VERY sweet. They both are are absolutely amazing, though.
Ive probably spent over £500 in bk540 dupes ie instant crush, sensual instinct, dua royal nights, khadlaj oud pour noble, fm 910 and Thomas Kosmala Après l'Amour which i absolutely obsess over. They're all lovely as stand alone fragrances but I think its time to admit defeat and just save up for the real thing.

I can only second that this perfume isn’t a love at first sniff! I used to go to MFK counter in my city to get my nose to this fragrance, and each time i was disappointed bcs this fragrance wasn’t as incredible as people claim. Then i got my hands on samples from MFK with Bacarrat Rouge being one of them... first time I wore it on my skin, i was like, i see why people like it but i still don’t. And today i decided to give it another try, and holy cow! It turned my world upside down. It’s uplifting, it’s rich, it smells elegant, classy, it’s exactly how i want to present myself to the outside world

I had the same relationship with Baccarat as you - smelled it in the shop, I wasnt wowed. Then I smelled it “in the wild” and I was seriously wowed. I had the same experience with Fahrenheit. Now I love and own both.
I ordered a sample of the extrait version, and at first I was disappointed because it smelled like cologne. A few hours later it was still strong but it had broken down to this sweet sexy smell. i’m obsessed. It’s so mysterious, i can never put my finger on what it smells like. The projectivity and longevity is outstanding. I sprayed on my wrist and it lasted three days!!!
I really enjoy both versions but the edp for me is my favourite just due to its technical aspects, managing to be light and airy, and still have incredible performance is amazing to me. It was one I also had to grow to love , it connected to a scent memory I eventually found and then it clicked for me. Spirito fiorintino by tiziana terenzi is my favourite take on this dna , with the same similar sweetness but wrapped up in smokey leather with more Ambergris and a hint of funk too 👑
@@SoLo1949 TT Spirito Fiorentino honestly to me is better than BR540. It gives a nice watery airy leather with a spicier wood towards the end. It has way more character.
I sampled both br540 edp and extrait loved them both, but I picked full bottle of extrait immediately I don’t know why I love it more. Can’t get enough of it. And for the Oud for greatness it’s was my love at first sniff I adore that one 🥰
I promise you the first time I smelled this was a sweaty band aid smell to me. But then some months later it’s like my nose switched to a different smell. So weird. But it’s an amazingggg scent. One time I accidentally got some in my hair, the scent lasted for a week. This fragrance is awesome!!

I find the Ext to be softer and less lasting. Edp to me is more sparkly and brighter that lasts longer. For the price comparison edp does the job. I would go for the 200ml bottle to get more bang for your buck so you can top up through the day when it fades. Love Instant Crush. My favourite of the similar DNA is Widian Liwa
No need to top up on the EDP atleast with my skin, lasts over 24 hours and is detectable for the entirety of the duration. Still got the 200ml because it's going to be a signature scent for me
Yuckmout' From Down Under I think it’s common to become anosmic to Br540. Everyone seems to smell it all day, yet I can’t. It plays tricks on you. Same with Aventus. Certain scents get labelled weak when people just became nose blind. I smell br540 on others very easily.
Drew James Yeah that's true, I've actually seen what seems to be overwhelming majority of people claim they become anosmic to BR540 & that would be frustrating given the price so in that case I would understand wanting to reapply throughout the day, guess I'm just lucky in that regard. How soon after applying do you yourself seem to go anosmic?
Like 30 mins 😂 But couple hours later I’ll walking outside then turn my head and get a big whiff again. So I know it’s still performing. It’s a scent that has big silage. In the air it’s big, on skin I can’t smell it.
Drew James Haha that's wild fam but as long as you still get enjoyment out of this great fragrance that's all that matters! I have heard the same about Aventus but that's one I didn't bother to buy, it's good but seemed a bit lack luster for the price and apparently newer batches are even weaker! I have Tiziana Terenzis Orion coming in today though which is supposed to have some similarities. Getting new fragrances in the mail feels like Christmas lol
I recently sampled both edp and extrait , and from what I can tell the almond note is very prominent and makes out a different vibe. It feels like some kind of extra layer of sweeteness and creaminess. I got 5ml of each so I can test it on the skin going out and about.
@@ayzaakrocky5325 It feels like I like the edp better. Maybe I could try the extrait when it is colder. The temperature where I live is about 19 C (66F) degrees during the day for now. Not fall yet I guess.
When I tried the baccarat extrait tester on my skin it immediately reminded me of oud for greatness, but both fragrances are unique enough to own both imho. Ofg to me the way the sweet and woody notes combine is amazing. Also ofg’s beastly performance whist baccarat is a bit more subtle(but still very powerful). Baccarat is sweeter to me like cotton candy and the amyris(or ambroxin)pinches my nose. It doesn’t project quite as well as ofg but the performance is still amazing just in a more subtle way. Ofg is a bit more in your face. Both are 10’s for me, but if I had to pic one it would be baccarat extrait. That’s my take.
I got the extrait version, it's not a love at first sniff but def grew on me. I sprayed it on my jacket, the smell is still strong even days after. I placed it in my laundry basket after a while and forgot about it. Walked passed the area and the room smelled like this perfume 😔🤚
I love BR540 so much I've got a backup bottle, have burned through two candles (best candle ever!) and am on my second bottle of the body oil. I, too, was "meh" on the scent at first, but a week after a test spray at Neiman Marcus, the scent was still on my coat -- and I fell hard.
I realise I am commenting many years after your review but I found your review very late. I love this review. Absolutely love it especially your analysis of ambroxan and the transparency of the lighter. I have worn this for years and I have become increasingly obsessed and now it is the only thing I want to wear. It’s sad for all my other carefully edited fragrances, I don’t want to wear anything else. I get comments constantly everywhere I go. I have both versions, the candle and body milk, I’m totally dedicated and will wear it forever. I cannot get enough of it, it is like a drug! I am saving up to buy backups to the extrait in the largest size so I never run out, In Australia it is $1000 a pop. I don’t even want to try other fragrances I have enough especially of my other favourite which is syrupy Turkish delight rose. I absolutely agree with your ideas on likenesses - especially that it borders on gourmand. I love many of those but not like I love Baccarat. Your review was exceptional. Thank you.
I had a heavenly, divine and very emotionally strong experience with a sample of Baccarat 540 eau de parfum so I bought the 70ml bottle and there, what a disappointment! it doesn't smell the same, it doesn't smell as strong, nor for as long, I haven't had the same emotions. I'm sure the juice in the bottle isn't the same as the juice in the sample... who thought of that too?
BR540 is interestingly weird... It took me 1 year to love & appreciate this fragrance... Now I really love it that I bought both 200ml EDP & 70ml Extrait. No other fragrance has done this kind of weird experience to me other than BR540. I think it's a masterpiece, trying it short term doesn't do justice, you have to let your nose learn.
I've been on the fence as to which version for a full bottle. Very helpful and I truly love the EDP so I may stay with it. It was an immediate love for me and it's one I get compliments on as well. I like many in the line and what a fragrance genius he is. I simply adore Tihota and didn't realize it was his until recently. It's (imo) the best vanilla ever created and I adore vanilla. I have Insulo and Fire at Will which I find incredibly good. As always, super helpful comparison.
Love both versions I used EDP, went for a run the day before and the thing still there as my body heats up this frag is insane, love it! Extrait is also bomb
I know this is an older video, but I'd like to add two more. Tribeca by Bond No.9, and Cheirosa '68 by Sol de Janeiro. The first smells very much like BR, but mind, because there is a weird and almost magical journey to this perfume. You will smell BR in the beginning of testing, but after a while that disappears and something completely difference appears. It's very unique and I don't feel they were aiming to get that BR vibe. The second one is for everyone out there who doesn't have that kind of money or who are not crazy about the BR, but would still like to venture into that territory without many financial risks. It's the cheapest version of BR540, and it smells so alike. Being a body mist you can't expect it to have a decent performance, but it will give you the BR experience. Imho, there are no perfumes that can match the BR. There is only one BR540, even if I'm not crazy about it (yet).
I ordered the sample to try and i dont know if i instantly became nose blind to it but i cant smell much on my skin like my other perfumes. my husband could smell it instantly when he came in the house i can smell it while i am just sitting it makes a bubble around you that is for sure. i dont get alot of sweet but it smells like a hospital or oral surgeon office. very medicinal but also sweet but im addicted. do i have an old sample? i just got it in the mail so shouldn't be. it smells like menthol and cotton candy or laughing gas! thats it nitrice oxide but i like it am i freak? do you know people who said the same?
I bought a dupe from fragrance spell and I love it somehow airy, fresh and slightly sweet without being gourmand....now I must buy the real thing...side note I loathe the Burberry her and the Cloud both are way too sweet
I bought Cloud by AG and loved it, and when I heard it’s like BR540 I had to smell BR540. Once I smelt the real thing, and sprayed it on myself, I bought it the next day! I’ll have to save up to get the big bottle
EdP lasts for-ever on me. I took a shower earlier today and it survived that :D Have to test Extrait more thoroughly but atm I am firmly in EdP camp. Extrait disappeared quicker for some reason.
Happened to me for Sauvage. Blind bought the bottle, wore it for a day, got choked out, hated it. Then a week later or so I kept getting phantom smells and started craving it. Good stuff especially the EDP, elixir smells like a super strong old spice original so I don’t like it as much.
Great video! I have taif al emarat t03 cesar which i believe is a fresher take on br540. I get pine needles, amber and that delicious cotton candy note. It's a beautiful, high quality fragrance.
Greenwich Village and Tribeca from Bond No. 9 also have some similarities to BR540, but the Bonds being more on the gourmand and sweater side of the spectrum. I've noticed that you have never done a review on this house. Great job Sebastian, cheers!
I always wondered what the hype was with this, my favourite is Aventus mens and womens. The lady in department store today encouraged me to try it. First of all I couldn’t really smell anything then I got home then wow. I’ve just ordered my first bottle. It reminds me a bit like Diptyque Christmas candle from last year for some reason.

I left blotter cards for both in a bag back in May and the bag still smells fantastic to this day, long after I removed the cards. It’s August! I wish I would have written which card was what. The nearest shop to me that has them is far unfortunately so I’ll have to wait. I’ve seen it go on sale on Costco online and I wasn’t sure which to get. Waiting for it to go on sale again hopefully by then I’ll know which version I prefer
I've also fallen in love with frags I didn't like at first sniff. I've had even more frags that I love at first sniff then got tired of them after wearing them3 or 4 times in different weather and times of day. Silver Mountain Water for example I initially loved. Then when I took it on a short vacation I started picking up on the metal and inky aspects of the scent and they drove me crazy. Same with Mancera Instant Crush.
Just got a tester of extrait and cant smell it properly have to dig my nose. But surprisingly i also have a eau de parfum which perfoms beast on my skin in terms of projection & longevity
I loved your review! I already had Burberry Her Intense on my dresser, so I sprayed it, and then sprayed my Baccarat Rouge 540 sample on top. I loved how well the two Fragrances meshed on my skin and how long-lasting the two were vs BR540 alone. BR540 is not in my budget. . . LoL, a 1-oz. bottle isn't in my budget. Extrait better. Stronger and more unique. I always have the real deal but have dabbled in some dupes. Oil perfumery isn’t bad. As well as Alexandria interplay extrait layered with dossier Ambery saffron.
Nishane Hacivat was like that for me. It took me a year and then I appreciated it. It all has to do with my journey in collecting frangrances. 4 years ago I was all about the freshies. I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about. I don't mind paying a premium for a frangrance. Now, I just want something I can spray twice and done for the day. The extrait are my favorite. I hated sauvage. In love with the extrait. It might be the longest lasting frangrance in my collection. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. It is nice to listen to someone who is serious and not mocking the business. I have bad anxiety and frangrances help with it. Very weird but it helps so much. Not sure why, so Iam exploring every frangrance and building a great collection.

If you want to have a more subtle 540 experience e.g. because of your colleagues spray the Extrait _once_ on your body a day or to _before_ going to work.
I was obsessed with BR540 at first sniff. It’s my favorite fragrance although it’s so hyped. I live in a small town and they don’t sell the extrait... So curious to try.
Well guys, I finally got a decant of Baccarat rouge yesterday. And I am very glad I did not blind buy that thing. At the center of it, is a “ stinky”, one of these “ thiol-based” materials used at “micro” concentrations. Having dealt with these before, I can tell you that this juice cost less than $5 per bottle to manufacture. Not worth the hundreds they charge. That’s not a skin scent, and after a couple of hours only the “ stinky” note( or whatever you wanna call it) is left to haunt our nose. Not worth the hype at all imho. Save your money
I just tried the Ariana Cloud fragrance and I got the SAME thing. There is a stinky, B.O. salty note thing that comes out on my skin. I was wondering if BR540 has the same thing. I never heard anyone talk about that. Lol I will totally skip this fragrance. Thanks.

A Love at First Sniff. Well put . I have to love something instantly when I smell the perfume. Like you, I didn’t love ❤️ the Baccarat Rouge at first. In Fact I was disappointed 😔. BUT each time I used it this past winter ❄️ I did like it . Still not Love 💕 but I am impressed by it. It does linger on clothes and in the air without overpowering.
judging from the BR540 inspired by fragrances ive tried that scent is something that can easily be used to layer with other fragrances which makes scents while other fragrances can smell the same while still adding extras
Same thing happened to me. At first I wasn't too fond of Baccarat Rouge 540 but the more I smelled it, the more I liked it. It took me about a year of testing it to appreciate the unusual fragrance. Now I love it. The same thing for Angel by Thierry Mugler. I detested that fragrance for years and actually thought it was one of the worst smelling eau de parfum. Now that I older, I adore it. I can't get enough of it. I only like the eau de parfum and not any of the body creams or body washes. I even bought the candle and not like it. I get a lot of compliments when I wear Angel so it must smell good on me. I have a friend who wears this exclusively but she would never tell me what she wore. She smelled fabulous and one time (after about 3 glasses of wine), she told me that her signature scent was Angel. I said "WHAT???" I could not believe it. I bought myself a bottle and now I love it. I'm older now and appreciate richer fragrances that I didn't when was younger. No florals for me (almost anyway).
I got the Eau De Parfum, I can’t tell if I like it or not.. at first I could barely smell it but over the course of a couple hours I keep smelling it faintly but I can’t tell if it’s light or not. I have the grand soir, which is more potent. So not sure if I’m comparing apples and oranges.
This is soooooo helpful! I not only enjoy hearing about the fragrances, but also about the differences between ambergris and ambroxin. Planning to order samples of all of these to see what I like best. BR540 has had me curious for quite a while, so its great to know there are alternatives. Some day can you explain aldehydes? Love both from first shift, no problem, but Baccarat Rouge Extract really something from another world. MFK forever love! I see this in my wardrobe, spray it and get sad because can't smell it. I can't smell EDP at all unless I go with couple of sprays at same spot. Extrait is one which I can smell but it's quite light.
I was that keen on BKR 540 EDP. The last year the extrait version was mesmerising. I’m ordering another bottle this evening. The Edp it smelt a bit meh.

If you love B540 then you should buy Tinhare by Le Couvent des Minimes which is now run by former Hermes Superstar Jean Claude Ellena. This one is the best dupe. 99.9% identical. It's 100% French and all ingredients come from Grasse which is the cradle of world perfumery.
I hated oud wood first few times I smelled it . Then a few years later a friend of mine wore it out and he had a suit on &. I was blown away by how good he smelled 😮. I was like wow this stuff is amazing . Shame the performance sucks on the new bottles ..
it was a love first smell for me! i would prefer not to be, because is to expensive for me ... anyway, it's unique, I can understand the success and the detractor's thoughs . I have manege rouge of Al haramain, and I need to say it, it's reeeally similar, for less od the half of the price. I have baccarat edp which sometimes i go anosmia think it may be body chemistry ,I have mancera IC( IMHO dont think IC is very similiar ) and I have cloud(coconuty...) but thinking bout getting the BR540 extrait or All Saints.which would u get if 1?
I've watched so so many reviews on this perfume and I have the extrait one. Yet, I can't smell it. It is so sad not to be able to experience the scent people are describing and saying about this perfume. Everyone says longevity and sillage is fantastic but I can hardly smell it. Even after just spraying it on my wrist and sniff it, I get maybe 10% of the scent. People say its the ambroxan molecule being too big for some people's nose receptors and that is probably what is happening in my situation. Regardless, I will still wear it and have everyone enjoy it for me.
I like BR540 but love Oud for Greatness! I personally don’t think they smell alike. I do see what you’re saying with some of the others. I’m not familiar with all of the one on the list but the ones I am familiar with I do like. Thanks for your insight. I always learn a lot from you.

that cloud bottle lifts right out of the cloud, if you dont like the cloud part. The bottle feels and looks a lot better without it.

To me it smells sort of “dusty” compared to the original that’s more light and satisfying that I’m obsessed with

The Extrait version is much more straightforward, creamy and VERY sweet. They both are are absolutely amazing, though.
The extrait lasts forever. I tend to go nose blind to it but people always smell it on me.

Ive probably spent over £500 in bk540 dupes ie instant crush, sensual instinct, dua royal nights, khadlaj oud pour noble, fm 910 and Thomas Kosmala Après l'Amour which i absolutely obsess over. They're all lovely as stand alone fragrances but I think its time to admit defeat and just save up for the real thing.

I can only second that this perfume isn’t a love at first sniff! I used to go to MFK counter in my city to get my nose to this fragrance, and each time i was disappointed bcs this fragrance wasn’t as incredible as people claim. Then i got my hands on samples from MFK with Bacarrat Rouge being one of them... first time I wore it on my skin, i was like, i see why people like it but i still don’t.
And today i decided to give it another try, and holy cow! It turned my world upside down. It’s uplifting, it’s rich, it smells elegant, classy, it’s exactly how i want to present myself to the outside world

I had the same relationship with Baccarat as you - smelled it in the shop, I wasnt wowed. Then I smelled it “in the wild” and I was seriously wowed. I had the same experience with Fahrenheit. Now I love and own both.
I ordered a sample of the extrait version, and at first I was disappointed because it smelled like cologne. A few hours later it was still strong but it had broken down to this sweet sexy smell. i’m obsessed. It’s so mysterious, i can never put my finger on what it smells like. The projectivity and longevity is outstanding. I sprayed on my wrist and it lasted three days!!!

I really enjoy both versions but the edp for me is my favourite just due to its technical aspects, managing to be light and airy, and still have incredible performance is amazing to me.
It was one I also had to grow to love , it connected to a scent memory I eventually found and then it clicked for me.
Spirito fiorintino by tiziana terenzi is my favourite take on this dna , with the same similar sweetness but wrapped up in smokey leather with more Ambergris and a hint of funk too 👑

@@SoLo1949 TT Spirito Fiorentino honestly to me is better than BR540. It gives a nice watery airy leather with a spicier wood towards the end. It has way more character.
I sampled both br540 edp and extrait loved them both, but I picked full bottle of extrait immediately I don’t know why I love it more. Can’t get enough of it. And for the Oud for greatness it’s was my love at first sniff I adore that one 🥰
I promise you the first time I smelled this was a sweaty band aid smell to me. But then some months later it’s like my nose switched to a different smell. So weird. But it’s an amazingggg scent. One time I accidentally got some in my hair, the scent lasted for a week. This fragrance is awesome!!

I find the Ext to be softer and less lasting. Edp to me is more sparkly and brighter that lasts longer. For the price comparison edp does the job. I would go for the 200ml bottle to get more bang for your buck so you can top up through the day when it fades. Love Instant Crush. My favourite of the similar DNA is Widian Liwa
No need to top up on the EDP atleast with my skin, lasts over 24 hours and is detectable for the entirety of the duration. Still got the 200ml because it's going to be a signature scent for me
Yuckmout' From Down Under I think it’s common to become anosmic to Br540. Everyone seems to smell it all day, yet I can’t. It plays tricks on you. Same with Aventus. Certain scents get labelled weak when people just became nose blind. I smell br540 on others very easily.
Drew James Yeah that's true, I've actually seen what seems to be overwhelming majority of people claim they become anosmic to BR540 & that would be frustrating given the price so in that case I would understand wanting to reapply throughout the day, guess I'm just lucky in that regard. How soon after applying do you yourself seem to go anosmic?
Like 30 mins 😂 But couple hours later I’ll walking outside then turn my head and get a big whiff again. So I know it’s still performing. It’s a scent that has big silage. In the air it’s big, on skin I can’t smell it.
Drew James Haha that's wild fam but as long as you still get enjoyment out of this great fragrance that's all that matters! I have heard the same about Aventus but that's one I didn't bother to buy, it's good but seemed a bit lack luster for the price and apparently newer batches are even weaker! I have Tiziana Terenzis Orion coming in today though which is supposed to have some similarities. Getting new fragrances in the mail feels like Christmas lol

I recently sampled both edp and extrait , and from what I can tell the almond note is very prominent and makes out a different vibe. It feels like some kind of extra layer of sweeteness and creaminess. I got 5ml of each so I can test it on the skin going out and about.

When I tried the baccarat extrait tester on my skin it immediately reminded me of oud for greatness, but both fragrances are unique enough to own both imho. Ofg to me the way the sweet and woody notes combine is amazing. Also ofg’s beastly performance whist baccarat is a bit more subtle(but still very powerful). Baccarat is sweeter to me like cotton candy and the amyris(or ambroxin)pinches my nose. It doesn’t project quite as well as ofg but the performance is still amazing just in a more subtle way. Ofg is a bit more in your face. Both are 10’s for me, but if I had to pic one it would be baccarat extrait. That’s my take.
I got the extrait version, it's not a love at first sniff but def grew on me. I sprayed it on my jacket, the smell is still strong even days after. I placed it in my laundry basket after a while and forgot about it. Walked passed the area and the room smelled like this perfume 😔🤚
I love BR540 so much I've got a backup bottle, have burned through two candles (best candle ever!) and am on my second bottle of the body oil. I, too, was "meh" on the scent at first, but a week after a test spray at Neiman Marcus, the scent was still on my coat -- and I fell hard.
I realise I am commenting many years after your review but I found your review very late. I love this review. Absolutely love it especially your analysis of ambroxan and the transparency of the lighter. I have worn this for years and I have become increasingly obsessed and now it is the only thing I want to wear. It’s sad for all my other carefully edited fragrances, I don’t want to wear anything else. I get comments constantly everywhere I go. I have both versions, the candle and body milk, I’m totally dedicated and will wear it forever. I cannot get enough of it, it is like a drug! I am saving up to buy backups to the extrait in the largest size so I never run out, In Australia it is $1000 a pop. I don’t even want to try other fragrances I have enough especially of my other favourite which is syrupy Turkish delight rose. I absolutely agree with your ideas on likenesses - especially that it borders on gourmand. I love many of those but not like I love Baccarat. Your review was exceptional. Thank you.

I had a heavenly, divine and very emotionally strong experience with a sample of Baccarat 540 eau de parfum so I bought the 70ml bottle and there, what a disappointment! it doesn't smell the same, it doesn't smell as strong, nor for as long, I haven't had the same emotions. I'm sure the juice in the bottle isn't the same as the juice in the sample... who thought of that too?
BR540 is interestingly weird... It took me 1 year to love & appreciate this fragrance... Now I really love it that I bought both 200ml EDP & 70ml Extrait. No other fragrance has done this kind of weird experience to me other than BR540. I think it's a masterpiece, trying it short term doesn't do justice, you have to let your nose learn.

I've been on the fence as to which version for a full bottle. Very helpful and I truly love the EDP so I may stay with it. It was an immediate love for me and it's one I get compliments on as well. I like many in the line and what a fragrance genius he is. I simply adore Tihota and didn't realize it was his until recently. It's (imo) the best vanilla ever created and I adore vanilla. I have Insulo and Fire at Will which I find incredibly good. As always, super helpful comparison.

I know this is an older video, but I'd like to add two more. Tribeca by Bond No.9, and Cheirosa '68 by Sol de Janeiro. The first smells very much like BR, but mind, because there is a weird and almost magical journey to this perfume. You will smell BR in the beginning of testing, but after a while that disappears and something completely difference appears. It's very unique and I don't feel they were aiming to get that BR vibe. The second one is for everyone out there who doesn't have that kind of money or who are not crazy about the BR, but would still like to venture into that territory without many financial risks. It's the cheapest version of BR540, and it smells so alike. Being a body mist you can't expect it to have a decent performance, but it will give you the BR experience. Imho, there are no perfumes that can match the BR. There is only one BR540, even if I'm not crazy about it (yet).
I ordered the sample to try and i dont know if i instantly became nose blind to it but i cant smell much on my skin like my other perfumes. my husband could smell it instantly when he came in the house i can smell it while i am just sitting it makes a bubble around you that is for sure. i dont get alot of sweet but it smells like a hospital or oral surgeon office. very medicinal but also sweet but im addicted. do i have an old sample? i just got it in the mail so shouldn't be. it smells like menthol and cotton candy or laughing gas! thats it nitrice oxide but i like it am i freak? do you know people who said the same?
I bought a dupe from fragrance spell and I love it somehow airy, fresh and slightly sweet without being gourmand....now I must buy the real thing...side note I loathe the Burberry her and the Cloud both are way too sweet
I bought Cloud by AG and loved it, and when I heard it’s like BR540 I had to smell BR540. Once I smelt the real thing, and sprayed it on myself, I bought it the next day! I’ll have to save up to get the big bottle

EdP lasts for-ever on me. I took a shower earlier today and it survived that :D Have to test Extrait more thoroughly but atm I am firmly in EdP camp. Extrait disappeared quicker for some reason.

Happened to me for Sauvage. Blind bought the bottle, wore it for a day, got choked out, hated it. Then a week later or so I kept getting phantom smells and started craving it. Good stuff especially the EDP, elixir smells like a super strong old spice original so I don’t like it as much.
Great video! I have taif al emarat t03 cesar which i believe is a fresher take on br540. I get pine needles, amber and that delicious cotton candy note. It's a beautiful, high quality fragrance.

Greenwich Village and Tribeca from Bond No. 9 also have some similarities to BR540, but the Bonds being more on the gourmand and sweater side of the spectrum. I've noticed that you have never done a review on this house.

I always wondered what the hype was with this, my favourite is Aventus mens and womens. The lady in department store today encouraged me to try it. First of all I couldn’t really smell anything then I got home then wow. I’ve just ordered my first bottle. It reminds me a bit like Diptyque Christmas candle from last year for some reason.

I left blotter cards for both in a bag back in May and the bag still smells fantastic to this day, long after I removed the cards. It’s August! I wish I would have written which card was what. The nearest shop to me that has them is far unfortunately so I’ll have to wait. I’ve seen it go on sale on Costco online and I wasn’t sure which to get. Waiting for it to go on sale again hopefully by then I’ll know which version I prefer

I've also fallen in love with frags I didn't like at first sniff. I've had even more frags that I love at first sniff then got tired of them after wearing them3 or 4 times in different weather and times of day. Silver Mountain Water for example I initially loved. Then when I took it on a short vacation I started picking up on the metal and inky aspects of the scent and they drove me crazy. Same with Mancera Instant Crush.

I loved how well the two Fragrances meshed on my skin and how long-lasting the two were vs BR540 alone.
BR540 is not in my budget. . . LoL, a 1-oz. bottle isn't in my budget.
Maybe, I'll order the Perfume Body Lotion for BR540 to layer when wearing Burberry Her Intense.

Extrait better. Stronger and more unique. I always have the real deal but have dabbled in some dupes. Oil perfumery isn’t bad. As well as Alexandria interplay extrait layered with dossier Ambery saffron.
I originally didn’t like the smell I have the extrait de parfum but it has grown on me overtime

Nishane Hacivat was like that for me. It took me a year and then I appreciated it. It all has to do with my journey in collecting frangrances. 4 years ago I was all about the freshies. I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about.
I don't mind paying a premium for a frangrance. Now, I just want something I can spray twice and done for the day. The extrait are my favorite. I hated sauvage. In love with the extrait. It might be the longest lasting frangrance in my collection.

If you want to have a more subtle 540 experience e.g. because of your colleagues spray the Extrait _once_ on your body a day or to _before_ going to work.

Well guys, I finally got a decant of Baccarat rouge yesterday. And I am very glad I did not blind buy that thing. At the center of it, is a “ stinky”, one of these “ thiol-based” materials used at “micro” concentrations.
Having dealt with these before, I can tell you that this juice cost less than $5 per bottle to manufacture. Not worth the hundreds they charge. That’s not a skin scent, and after a couple of hours only the “ stinky” note( or whatever you wanna call it) is left to haunt our nose.
Not worth the hype at all imho. Save your money
I just tried the Ariana Cloud fragrance and I got the SAME thing. There is a stinky, B.O. salty note thing that comes out on my skin. I was wondering if BR540 has the same thing. I never heard anyone talk about that. Lol

Like you, I didn’t love ❤️ the Baccarat Rouge at first. In Fact I was disappointed 😔.
BUT each time I used it this past winter ❄️ I did like it . Still not Love 💕 but I am impressed by it. It does linger on clothes and in the air without overpowering.

Same thing happened to me. At first I wasn't too fond of Baccarat Rouge 540 but the more I smelled it, the more I liked it. It took me about a year of testing it to appreciate the unusual fragrance. Now I love it. The same thing for Angel by Thierry Mugler. I detested that fragrance for years and actually thought it was one of the worst smelling eau de parfum. Now that I older, I adore it. I can't get enough of it. I only like the eau de parfum and not any of the body creams or body washes. I even bought the candle and not like it. I get a lot of compliments when I wear Angel so it must smell good on me. I have a friend who wears this exclusively but she would never tell me what she wore. She smelled fabulous and one time (after about 3 glasses of wine), she told me that her signature scent was Angel. I said "WHAT???" I could not believe it. I bought myself a bottle and now I love it. I'm older now and appreciate richer fragrances that I didn't when was younger. No florals for me (almost anyway).
I got the Eau De Parfum, I can’t tell if I like it or not.. at first I could barely smell it but over the course of a couple hours I keep smelling it faintly but I can’t tell if it’s light or not. I have the grand soir, which is more potent. So not sure if I’m comparing apples and oranges.

This is soooooo helpful! I not only enjoy hearing about the fragrances, but also about the differences between ambergris and ambroxin. Planning to order samples of all of these to see what I like best. BR540 has had me curious for quite a while, so its great to know there are alternatives. Some day can you explain aldehydes? That’s another term I hear about, but have yet to hear what it is and how it’s used. Thanks agaiin for another great one!

I see this in my wardrobe, spray it and get sad because can't smell it.
I can't smell EDP at all unless I go with couple of sprays at same spot.
Extrait is one which I can smell but it's quite light.

Enjoyed the review! I just recently got some BR540 and I am in love with it. Ordered the extrait and the smell was too spicy smelling. Is it supposed to smell that way? It lacked that cotton candy sweetness of the EDP.
I prefer Baccarat Rouge over Instant Crush and Kalan. There’s something in Kalan that is nauseating to me.
If you love B540 then you should buy Tinhare by Le Couvent des Minimes which is now run by former Hermes Superstar Jean Claude Ellena.

I hated oud wood first few times I smelled it . Then a few years later a friend of mine wore it out and he had a suit on &. I was blown away by how good he smelled 😮. I was like wow this stuff is amazing . Shame the performance sucks on the new bottles ..

I have baccarat edp which sometimes i go anosmia think it may be body chemistry ,I have mancera IC( IMHO dont think IC is very similiar ) and I have cloud(coconuty...) but thinking bout getting the BR540 extrait or All Saints.which would u get if 1?

I've watched so so many reviews on this perfume and I have the extrait one. Yet, I can't smell it. It is so sad not to be able to experience the scent people are describing and saying about this perfume. Everyone says longevity and sillage is fantastic but I can hardly smell it. Even after just spraying it on my wrist and sniff it, I get maybe 10% of the scent. People say its the ambroxan molecule being too big for some people's nose receptors and that is probably what is happening in my situation. Regardless, I will still wear it and have everyone enjoy it for me.
