what a shame, Max payne 3 defo needs more attention, that's the most realistic 3rd view shooter I ever played, and the story is also badass, but I may bet these are too serious games for gen z that likes everything unrealistically bright and pinky so they just don't really bother, since their previous fans are much older now and have families and have no time to sit on chair playing the games, could be that economic reason as well.

Unpopular opinion: We don’t need constant ports. Just make the new consoles backwards compatible at least one generation. I don’t want companies to get comfortable making their money off of the same game(s) forever.

the pc version still gets updates. but the frame issue after a certain time is still not fixed(and it is a day one problem to this day(16 years 3 months and 8 days). and if they are not able to fix it they are also not able to remaster it. and rockstar was not able to succed in any of the last trys to remaster anything. they fucked up every project...
Agreed, I don't want a remaster, but I'd love a version with both dlc weapons list available for Niko and maybe a few other weapons added in, with the cut content, I'm fine with how the game looks and plays
they are not able to port it. gta4 on pc still have day one bugs. they put out an update for gta4 at the beginning of 2025 and the bug is still there after 16 years 3 months and 8 days. rockstar is not able to do it because they dont know how to do it.

For example, the Definitive edition of the original trilogy was based on the mobile ports instead of the console versions. Why not just use the base console version? @@ds9235 *Rockstar could easily hire Double Eleven again, the same team that ported RDR1 to Switch and PS4/PS5, to port GTA IV. It'd certainly be a very small investment compared to the profit it would generate for them. A mere port would be enough for many people. All they'd need to do is optimize the game to run at a rock-solid 30fps, set the resolution to 1080p (Full HD) and apply a good anti-aliasing filter. On PS4, of course. On PS5 they would upgrade the resolution to 2160p (4K) and make it run at a silky-smooth 60fps, while keeping the AA filter, obviously. That's basically all they did for the RDR1 port, and it was a good one. The advantage of hiring Double Eleven is that these guys are former Rockstar devs. They've got the know-how, and that matters a lot.*

GTA 4 & episodes don't need a remaster or definitive edition it just needs a good PC port & latest gen console optimisations, so that it can run ultra graphics smoothly with high fps. It just needs good patch updates.
@@aculx2639 Nikos voice actor and rockstar left on bad terms and won’t work together anymore, plus GTA4 is a whole different style and vibe from any other GTA game, with GTA5 being wackier and more crazy while GTA4 is very serious. With the success of GTA5 they are likely to stay in that direction and continue that style over 4. Also they literally remastered gta3 vice city and San Andreas and even ported RDR1 but not 4, so that definitely means something and was lost likely intentional to some degree, they magically didn’t forget about GTA4 at all, wouldn’t take much for a port that runs at 1080p to 4k 60fps for modern consoles from there talented studios.
If I remember correctly, because of how horrendous the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition came out, Rockstar believed that no one wanted a GTA 4 remaster/definitive edition.

Because of GTA Online, same reason GTA 5 never got the planned story DLC, at least GTA 4 got two story DLCs because that was before GTA Online, bundled together as "Episodes from Liberty City" or in the complete edition of GTA 4.

I think the real reason is because of 2 things. 1) license music. They can use that money towards new music in gta 6 2) to spite the Niko bellic voice actor. He asked for more money. Rockstar told him no.
Uh, Ray Liotta and Young maylay also had beef with rockstar for the same thing. Both games had their remaster. also it seems pretty childish for a company to discontinue such a huge project over a simple problem they had with the voice actor, who barely is active.

It's a shame that a company that has so much money doesn't focus on older titles, honestly they could have a team of devs working on older games and making actual good ports for pc and newer consoles. When a say a team of devs I mean Rockstar devs not Grove street games or other outsiders. I remember even the original trilogy years before the definitive edition, had awful pc ports, the steam versions were horrible but the community made patches and fixes. That shows you who actually cares for these products.

I wouldn’t mind if they did to GTA IV what they did with Red Dead. All GTA IV needs is higher res and framerate and perhaps the higher quality textures from PC. I wouldn’t even trust them to remaster it so I’d prefer they just take the existing version but 4K/60 and I’ll pay $40 for it to play it on PS5.
Every year without fail I replay gta iv campaign (ps3). I’m in the middle of it right now. The game still holds up and is a lot of fun. Honestly, a remaster would only need a performance patch and just the overall convenience of having it on current consoles like with dark souls remastered.
Because the missions were mostly the same... drive/chase/kill. The characters were dull (with the exception of Bernie). More use of aircraft & boats would've relieved the tedium. The Ballad of Gay Tony was what the main game should've been like.
The Ballad of Gay Tony was more in line with what was to come with GTA 5. Glamour and grandiose. I like the barebones, dark and gritty feel of GTA IV better. Niko is an immigrant gun for hire, you essentially play as a hitman throughout the story but the characters is what makes the plot. The game takes itself more seriously which I appreciate. Yeah the missions can sometimes get repetitive and frustrating, but that’s what makes this game stand out from the other games in the series. The driving although challenging is the best in the series, gunplay has weight compared to weightless gta 5, more interiors to explore, and the story is the best. Sure there’s no where near as much customization but Rockstar was focused on creating an original compelling story that was relatable, personable and realistic. GTA IV is the GOAT.
Because they were earning from trilogy and GTA 4 is too much dark but what I like the most is the Luis part it's fully optimized had better colors and doesn't hurt my eyes like wth was that graphics even GTA 3 was also dark but was well balanced and not hurt the eyes as GTA 4
Rockstar pretty much refuses to acknowledge their old school playerbase simple. And when they do, they usually fuck it up (Defective edition) or put out half-baked lazy ass ports with missing content (RDR1 and lack of multiplayer)
Get yourself some decent pc, install mods like icenhacer and enjoy "remastered" gta4 in 4k 144hz. Throw your consoles out of the window and regret you haven't done that before.

Based on quotes before about GTA 6 Online being an ever growing game with map expansions touted, I can see GTA 4 remaster happening a few years after GTA 6 comes out. I can see a big GTA Online expansion added of Liberty City with GTA 6 graphics, and that could serve as a standalone GTA 4 offline remaster.
I would say GTA IV never needed a remaster. But then again, it would've never been playable had it not been for the loyal community. If R* were to remaster it, I would only ask for 3 things. 1. Better optimization and performance. 2. Better texture quality, mesh quality and GTA V like graphics. 3. Every DLC weapon and vehicle being available in the base game and the DLCs.

If they ever make a definitive edition of GTA 4, it’s been my dream since GTA 5 came out for GTA 4 to implement the same character wheel system to be able to seamlessly switch between Niko Johnny and Luis.
Unpopular opinion: Rockstar should just give the source code to the community so that the talented people that mod these games could make it a 64 bit application and fix most of the performance issues the game has.

Tbh apart from some bugs that have already been patched with mods like 8 years ago, what do you want to really improve on GTA 4? The graphics? Sure, the textures could be made more high res, but there are mods for that. Also if Rockstar was gonna remaster it, they would surely butcher up the feeling, same as they did with GTA Trilogy. It will just look soulless and basic. Also what is likely to happen, they'll take down the original version, many mods that have been made for the game, and those which would somehow survive won't be compatible with the new game anyway. Essentially it would suck hard for everyone.

GTA IV ran like molasses on everything it came out on. If there's any game Rockstar has ever made that deserves a redo, it's this one, but by Rockstar themselves, not some other team.
Everything about this game felt CORRECT. The gunfights, the car chases, the characters, the VIBE. The first time I visited NYC in the late 2000's I realized just how damn close they got to putting it in a game, to the point that I more or less knew how to navigate the city and where most of the major neighborhoods in Manhattan and Brooklyn where. Even the subway system is pretty damn spot on. Unmatched!

The only thing it needs to feel modern is to eliminate that circle health bar, which looks outdated as hell, and replace it with one similar to the one used in V. IV is dark and moody, so all that post-processing should remain to capture the tone instead of being bright and sharp like V.
Knowing how much they dropped the ball with The Defective Editions of GTA III/VC/SA, we should all be thankful they haven't announced a GTA IV "remaster" because they'd just lazily outsource it to another company who'd butcher it.
Maybe rockstar lost the source code? Went it came out the PC port was a mess and a lot of news were saying that the game code was a spaghetti mess, maybe that has to do with it
I hope to see IV revived with a newer port one day. A proper one though, none of this mobile port definitive edition nonsense. Then they can support newer consoles and hopefully better future proof the PC version, which I’ve had to mod to get to run well on modern hardware.

It'd certainly be a very small investment compared to the profit it would generate for them. A mere port would be enough for many people. All they'd need to do is optimize the game to run at a rock-solid 30fps, set the resolution to 1080p (Full HD) and apply a good anti-aliasing filter. On PS4, of course. On PS5 they would upgrade the resolution to 2160p (4K) and make it run at a silky-smooth 60fps, while keeping the AA filter, obviously. That's basically all they did for the RDR1 port, and it was a good one. The advantage of hiring Double Eleven is that these guys are former Rockstar devs. They've got the know-how, and that matters a lot.*

With the success of GTA5 they are likely to stay in that direction and continue that style over 4. Also they literally remastered gta3 vice city and San Andreas and even ported RDR1 but not 4, so that definitely means something and was lost likely intentional to some degree, they magically didn’t forget about GTA4 at all, wouldn’t take much for a port that runs at 1080p to 4k 60fps for modern consoles from there talented studios.

For 2008, it was a big step for GTA to move into the next gen platform. Graphics and gameplay for this time was peak.
Because of GTA Online, same reason GTA 5 never got the planned story DLC, at least GTA 4 got two story DLCs because that was before GTA Online, bundled together as "Episodes from Liberty City" or in the complete edition of GTA 4.

I’m so sick and tired of the GTA5 formula. Multiple re-releases across three different console generations but we can’t get a simple port of GTA IV which wouldn’t be hard to do at all. Fuck Rockstar man
hell, i dont like the bright colors, the lack of depth in characters (altho purposeful as they are depicted as californians) and i dont rly like the driving model and weapon sounds on xbox360 gta V also are lacking. I heard some fat furries speak that buying gta V definitive edition isnt worth it
I think the real reason is because of 2 things.
1) license music. They can use that money towards new music in gta 6
2) to spite the Niko bellic voice actor. He asked for more money. Rockstar told him no.
Uh, Ray Liotta and Young maylay also had beef with rockstar for the same thing. Both games had their remaster. also it seems pretty childish for a company to discontinue such a huge project over a simple problem they had with the voice actor, who barely is active.

It's a shame that a company that has so much money doesn't focus on older titles, honestly they could have a team of devs working on older games and making actual good ports for pc and newer consoles. RDR1 was backwards compatible on the Xbox One and Series S/X for years before it came to the PS4 and 5
I wouldn’t mind if they did to GTA IV what they did with Red Dead. All GTA IV needs is higher res and framerate and perhaps the higher quality textures from PC. I wouldn’t even trust them to remaster it so I’d prefer they just take the existing version but 4K/60 and I’ll pay $40 for it to play it on PS5.
Rockstar never made a remaster of GTA 4 because it was the start of the HD universe. Before all of Rockstars' games were 3D.

Every year without fail I replay gta iv campaign (ps3). I’m in the middle of it right now. The game still holds up and is a lot of fun. Honestly, a remaster would only need a performance patch and just the overall convenience of having it on current consoles like with dark souls remastered.
I get ptsd when seeing that gold "The Defenitive Edition" logo.
Because the missions were mostly the same... drive/chase/kill. The characters were dull (with the exception of Bernie). More use of aircraft & boats would've relieved the tedium. The Ballad of Gay Tony was what the main game should've been like.
The Ballad of Gay Tony was more in line with what was to come with GTA 5. Glamour and grandiose. I like the barebones, dark and gritty feel of GTA IV better. Niko is an immigrant gun for hire, you essentially play as a hitman throughout the story but the characters is what makes the plot. The game takes itself more seriously which I appreciate. Yeah the missions can sometimes get repetitive and frustrating, but that’s what makes this game stand out from the other games in the series. The driving although challenging is the best in the series, gunplay has weight compared to weightless gta 5, more interiors to explore, and the story is the best. Sure there’s no where near as much customization but Rockstar was focused on creating an original compelling story that was relatable, personable and realistic. GTA IV is the GOAT.

Based on quotes before about GTA 6 Online being an ever growing game with map expansions touted, I can see GTA 4 remaster happening a few years after GTA 6 comes out. I can see a big GTA Online expansion added of Liberty City with GTA 6 graphics, and that could serve as a standalone GTA 4 offline remaster.
I would say GTA IV never needed a remaster. But then again, it would've never been playable had it not been for the loyal community.
If R* were to remaster it, I would only ask for 3 things.
1. Better optimization and performance.
2. Better texture quality, mesh quality and GTA V like graphics.
3. Every DLC weapon and vehicle being available in the base game and the DLCs.

Everything about this game felt CORRECT. The gunfights, the car chases, the characters, the VIBE. The first time I visited NYC in the late 2000's I realized just how damn close they got to putting it in a game, to the point that I more or less knew how to navigate the city and where most of the major neighborhoods in Manhattan and Brooklyn where. Even the subway system is pretty damn spot on. Unmatched!

Cause it was already Mastered its to powerful for a remaster. Its still people in the world that hasn’t played it and will one day bump into and man oh man the time they will have is a time I wish to go back and enjoy
Rockstar games focused a lot on new games and considering the failure with the trilogy it preferred not to get involved
Never say never, maybe one day... What we can say right now is that it won't happen anytime soon, but probably in the distant future
The only thing it needs to feel modern is to eliminate that circle health bar, which looks outdated as hell, and replace it with one similar to the one used in V.
IV is dark and moody, so all that post-processing should remain to capture the tone instead of being bright and sharp like V.

I figured GTA 4 never got remastered because of the fallout they had with the guy who played the Niko character.
They had a gta 4 remaster in the pipeline but they cancelled it due to the poor reception of the trilogy DE.
The same thing happened with CJ's va and the trilogy remaster happened. I don't think that has anything to do with it whatsoever.
Knowing how much they dropped the ball with The Defective Editions of GTA III/VC/SA, we should all be thankful they haven't announced a GTA IV "remaster" because they'd just lazily outsource it to another company who'd butcher it.
It will more than likely, be remastered for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Maybe rockstar lost the source code? Went it came out the PC port was a mess and a lot of news were saying that the game code was a spaghetti mess, maybe that has to do with it

I hope to see IV revived with a newer port one day. A proper one though, none of this mobile port definitive edition nonsense. Then they can support newer consoles and hopefully better future proof the PC version, which I’ve had to mod to get to run well on modern hardware.

We will not get it beacuse of greedy capitalism . They want you concentrated in GTA 5 microtransactions . The same with call of duty , they remaster cod mw 2008 , gave it the multiplayer mode ( beacuse it’s not a threat ) . They only remaster the campaign in Cod mw2 2009 not the multiplayer , why ? Cuz people would play that multiplayer = players gone from new games with microtransactions . That’s USA for you , money money money .
