Hey Legend. I'm the guy that sent this in, I'm glad you liked it. Arbaal is so busted that you can just tp DIRECTLY to the LL's and smash them up to get their traits. I only took like a 3 turn detour to get Wurzzags trait in this campaign.
That's pretty much how I've been playing him. Teleporting him around to throw hands with the lords with the best defeat traits has been a blast. Having an enthusiastic walk through Cathay leaves Arbaal's army so scuffed, its beautiful.

One change i don't see anyone talking about is the fact that all the bloodthirsters can now take an ability that disable magic attacks. Huge improvement for them in terms of abilities.

I wonder if it's possible for the game to have a mechanic to increase attack speed. It would be much more enjoyable to watch arbaal go to town swinging his Axe near constantly instead of the 3-4 second pauses we get currently between attacks.

I remember there was an old legend video where dwarfs could boost reload speed to the point the quarrelers were shooting faster than rattling guns. CA patched that so each unit now has a minimum reload time, so it’s not possible to stack buffs until you empty all your ammunition in seconds anymore.
Arbaal is a very stat-loaded legendary lord. His own Physical Resistance upgrade is bugged and doesn't apply though. He can get it from items and defeat traits, but one of his skill spots that is supposed to give Weapon Strength and 10% Physical Resistance won't actually give him any Physical Resistance.
no it does apply, you just have a high tendency with him to end in recruit stance since he jumps all around the world and has 1 turn recruit global recruitment, which causes him to have extremely low wind of magic reserves (encamp stance for Khorne has a -5 wind debuff). And very low wind of magic reserves cause a -10% phys resistance on the army for chaos god armies.
While that would be funny and thematic, Arbaal doesn't use unholy Manifestations, only demon LL factions get those. So he wouldn't be able to use it, Skulltaker and Skarbrand would though.
I got the helm of dreska trait on my vlad than on my isabel in only 20 turns it was a 2 men doomstack army...or a doomstack couple for the rest of the campaign . One the most epic and easiest campaigns I had.
For bonus ward save shenanigans, keep that dwarven lord in a region with minor cult grail knight's grave. This gives blessing of the lady as a trait, which is even _more_ ward save. You can easily get to 90% ward save on dwarven generic lords nowadays.
I actually find it really annoying how so many units can't just charge out of masses like this and the AI just basically swarms all around you and even one stupid soldier being in the way can prevent a unit from getting away. Spamming "move" doesn't seem to help much. Meanwhile, the AI doesn't seem to suffer from this issue and regularly forces it's infantry through your front line to get to your ranged units and can easily get their single entities through as well without ever getting bogged down. There's always that one AI lord/hero that squeezes through in order to start attacking your spellcaster or disrupt missile units. I understand that that is the right strategy to aim for, but it's something that should either either apply to both the player and the AI or neither. In the battle here there is absolutely no reason that Arbaal shouldn't be able to just charge through those rats. I get the feeling that the AI just spams the attack command for all of its units in order to get them to encircle the single entities.
In my experience, spamming attack does help and yeah I think the AI does issue orders like that, so that's why they can have more success I feel like the stopping power of infantry blobs is consistent though. Try making deeper formations. If you stretch every unit as wide as it goes, you are leaving fewer models to support each other from a charge breaking through. I support my lines with 2 anti large infantry units and deploy them in a thinner box formation to support units that are being charged by monsters/cavalry

The AI essentially still spams orders for every individual unit non stop. Luckily, it doesn't glitch the game like back in Med2, but you can on weaker computers still experience the lag spikes. It is a damn annoying "cheat" they have, with their SE:s actually homing in on their targets, their cavalry disengaging proper, their flyers becoming helicopters and performing vertical take offs and so on. Not especially a TW unique thing for the AI to do, but it is always a quite annoying trait to have. Would rather the "AI" do smart commands then just be no-brain Serral on crack when playing against them.

love the one-man doomstacks. Also, something I found out way too late, while you are in cinematic mode with... k? I think is the key bind, you can hold space and see the units hp bars and portraits but nothing else shows up. allows for some nice shots while being able to micro a bit still.
I thought the splash attacks are fixed depending on the base weapon strength of the unit. Its not a modifier, just an equation they used to set the number of targets hit.
I know the sword of Khain is overused but with it Arbaal really is unbeatable. I have the maximum resistance of every type of damage in the game besides ward save which I’m at 60 percent with before turn 50, all I’m waiting on now is Bloodfeasters banner so I can have pure regeneration as well. He has perfect vigor, is unbreakable, expert charge defense, everything you could want is on this guy. The Blade of Khorne faction ability is just the icing on the cake. I just killed 4 full stacks of endgame crisis Chaos Dwarfs with just Arbaal and he was still full hp by the end, it’s absurd.
I really liken my Arbaal campaign. Without cheesing too hard, he feels appropriately strong but not crazy OP. He can hang with Archaon, but not generally win outright without being maxed. I had a good time fighting Archie around lvl 20 with decent stacks, it felt like a but satisfying loreful challenge.
love a good one man doom stack. One of the things I've been trying to accomplish with minimum success is a one man "doomstack" in Bannerlord with the Old World mod........ very hard
Chainsword has always been in TTW3, it's the short campaign victory reward for Skarbrand (Well, Khorne lord overall now), you can also get it as a reward with Valkia and in a quest with the changeling.
Waaayyyy back in Liber Chaotica, GW "subtlely" brought in chaos marines and specifically mentioned chainswords. I think its inclusion in this game was a direct nod to that. Much like bringing in Arbaal himself, or Harry Hammerstorm.

Short answer: no. However, Skarbrand is literally a 40k demon that tried to attack Khorne, so Khorne personally threw him like a meteor through the warp and into WHF (that's why he is called "the Exiled". The chainsword in the video is a special reward that Skarbrand can get, so in this save file they must have confederated Skarbrand and acquired it. The armor styles on WHF chaos units are similar to 40k because the Chaos Gods are actually the same between 40k and Fantasy, and they can access both settings through the warp/chaos wastes
I wonder if you lost more enemies to the instant route for fighting at the edge of the map than you would have just fighting in the mid and using the aoe to disengage and go after the globadiers. Also though they have low moral they come back a lot so the edge of the map removing them altogether was tough. Hard to say though with the terror wrecking their moral...
Can you do this with many of the OG Lords? I know the vampire counts can be badasses but I think Arbaal would kick Grimgor's ass all day and he's supposed to be the orciest of orcs to ever orc.
what about a talisman of trickster instead? he has enough healing. i don't know each hp/ per model. and arbaals explosion will besure magical. another +20?% would be nice. he did most of killing with explosion anyway. + which one apply explosion radius bonus and damage? is it Elspeth or Zhatan?
My favorite characters in the game by far 1) Settra 2) Arbaal 3) Grimgor 4) Malekith 5) Wulfrik Arbaal is so damn good, he finally made me wanna play a chaos lord!
@legendoftotalwar I started an Arbaal campaign after the hotfix, there seems to be something wrong with aquiring legendary traits, I killed kostaltyn, thrott and wurrzag early in the campaign. I got the trait that says I defeated them, but only the kostaltyn trait was applying. No 10% physical resistance from wurrzag or 10% hit points from thrott. Anyone else experience this? (I also noticed long ago that saved lord characters with legendary defeat traits don't apply said traits). Let me know if you want a save file. (no mods active atm)
I did some testing, thinking it was because I was loading saved characters. But now I think that when Arbaal gains his mount, he loses all trait effects he gained before that (while still keeping the defeat lord X trait, it's just not applying anymore)
current patch makes charging through anything quite the challange... today my stonehorne got stuck on basic marauders.... normaly it punches a nice whole through eny formation
Arbaal got nothing on my boy Bloodthirsty Barry I say this because Bloodthirsty Barry solo killed Aekold Helbrass, Harold Hammerstorm, a generic Tzeentch lord who killed my bloodthirster in just a few hits and a generic chaos hero all in once battle He had full health at the end due to regen. I’m not kidding.
@@JohnJohn-r4lit has always been a lot of fun running a full hero stack like some adventure party. They can get pretty nasty. I just had a Khorne Champion survive his Herald Lord and bloodletter hero in a battle against Archaon. He was higher level than all of them and the only thing that kept my meager forces from chain routing. He killed off some spawn and the Severed Claw aspiring champions who would have otherwise killed off my marauders and won the battle. Very satisfying!
talisman of preservation would be better than collar of khorne, also there is a tech to get 5 more ward save that he didn't take yet. Anyway Skulltaker fully maxed out is still stronger than Arbaal as an one man doomstack.

what about a talisman of trickster instead? he has enough healing. i don't know each hp/ per model. and arbaals explosion will besure magical. another +20?% would be nice. he did most of killing with explosion anyway.
+ which one apply explosion radius bonus and damage? is it Elspeth or Zhatan?

@legendoftotalwar I started an Arbaal campaign after the hotfix, there seems to be something wrong with aquiring legendary traits, I killed kostaltyn, thrott and wurrzag early in the campaign. I got the trait that says I defeated them, but only the kostaltyn trait was applying. No 10% physical resistance from wurrzag or 10% hit points from thrott. Anyone else experience this?
(I also noticed long ago that saved lord characters with legendary defeat traits don't apply said traits). Let me know if you want a save file.

I did some testing, thinking it was because I was loading saved characters. But now I think that when Arbaal gains his mount, he loses all trait effects he gained before that (while still keeping the defeat lord X trait, it's just not applying anymore)
that strategy tag doesn't seem very fitting anymore

I say this because Bloodthirsty Barry solo killed Aekold Helbrass, Harold Hammerstorm, a generic Tzeentch lord who killed my bloodthirster in just a few hits and a generic chaos hero all in once battle
He had full health at the end due to regen.

@@JohnJohn-r4lit has always been a lot of fun running a full hero stack like some adventure party. They can get pretty nasty.
I just had a Khorne Champion survive his Herald Lord and bloodletter hero in a battle against Archaon. He was higher level than all of them and the only thing that kept my meager forces from chain routing. He killed off some spawn and the Severed Claw aspiring champions who would have otherwise killed off my marauders and won the battle. Very satisfying!
talisman of preservation would be better than collar of khorne, also there is a tech to get 5 more ward save that he didn't take yet. Anyway Skulltaker fully maxed out is still stronger than Arbaal as an one man doomstack.

Just a rare item, all rng, I got it in 1 of my last 3 campaigns all 100+ turns if that helps show how rare it is to see
