I had the opposite situation today. Ikkit decided to hold his side of the map, and I just hid everyone but a gorebull. The ai wasted all the menace below running after him, but at least didn't use the doom rocket. I had to bring a unit of dogs to bait it.

I wouldn't mind fighting Skaven if it weren't for the Menace Below x9999 on top of archers. Can't even defend against it before the ranged units die, even if I placed my melee units directly on top of them. So the only thing I do is not bother to bring them to fight Skaven and use magic instead, use hybrid ones if playing the right factions, or auto-resolve to avoid the mechanic.
I usually bring stalking range or hide everyone the first minutes and let them waste the menaces running after a fast hero. If the skaven ai has artillery they like to hold their ground, especially if you are the attacker. Extremely effective against ikkit and his noobrocket
How do people get Legend's email address to send these in when it's clear they've never watched him play ever. Don't do a single thing Legend has preached for 5+ years and end up in a mess and go "I did everything right, is this even winnable?"
Some Thoughts about Ungrim's army. Why is there no master engineer in Ungrim's army? Turn 1 build a workshop, turn 2 recruit an enigneer and 2 gyros. Then you can decide whether you want to keep the workshop or build there something instead in Karak Kadrin. You could have Garagrim in the army as well as soon as you have 8 slayer units recruited. Like in turn 3-4-5 depending on what you recruit in the early turns. The you would have had 4 lords and heroes in the army. Can put them in front line and hold the enemy army back from your cannons/ranged units. No Tankard by turn 46 on Ungrim. Really? You put on every single one of your dwarf lords and heroes tankards except maybe the legendary lords who have epic item in that slot. Ungrim doesnt have an epic in that slot so you go with a tankard there. Period. By turn 46 you should have a tankard and 40-50% ward save on him. He is almost unkillable then. You do not siege a settlement but you attack it and take it. If you cant take it you dont attack it.
A lot of people didn't play the game for thousands of hours or have been watching Legend for years. Be thankful, those are the ones feeding disasters to Legend. And ty for the compilation of tips, I haven't played Ungrim since wh2, always end up picking other dwarf instead.
@@juanfp You are absolutely right, maybe the wording of my tips came through wrong but the intent was exactly to give some tips. Legend does it himself as well. Under most of Legend's videos one can find several useful tips from experienced players how to do and how not to do it so I myself read lot of comments under his videos even with more than 1000 hours behind my back. With Ungrim and most likely for most dwarf lords you always go for the oathgold giving building in most of your regions so you can have the fastest way the tankards and the best runes. By turn 15-20 you with Ungrim you can have the tankard on him the 2 armor pieces from his quest battles granting 30% ward save and the rune of luck x3 which gives another 10% ward save. And you can equip the other 2 on other 2 lords/heroes. Thats 800 oathgold altogether. You get 200 from the 2 quest battles you sack everytime if you see you can get a lot from sacking otherwise just occupy the settlements. I always go south to Skarsnik and take him out before Thorgrim does, then with another army and gyros in it i am able to defend myself from Azhag who will attack as soon as he kills the minor enemy he has at the start, mostly turn 7-9 is when he comes. Then I head back with Ungrim and smash him. If i didnt do it with my gyro army by then. Once you handled Skarsnik and Azhag you are at turn 15-20 and then you go east to Mount Silverspear. With another army where Skarsnik was go to east to take out Tretch Craventail. Then Drazoath if he lives, then Imrik then back west to Queek etc. Or/and with another army by this time to east as well for Kugath and Helman Gorth. this is where you can be at turn 30-50.
Queek is SO freaking aggressive in my games. It doesn't matter who else he's at war with, or I'm allied with He always declares war on me the moment I have a border with him.
Same. Nothing more frustrating and embarassing than thinking a battle against skaven is going well, then looking behind me and seeing that all my artillery units are dead
Just did an Elspeth campaign that ended last night. Because most of my armies were guns + artillery (many without wizards, yeah not the best. I generally underuse heroes) it was actually generally easier to fight on the field instead of attacking during sieges.
the thing is I HATE siege battles so much (especially against skaven with their ONE FREAKING MAP) that I would rather take the field battle. At least that way the fight is more interesting. Really I can only take that ugly green dark map so many times until I go insane
While attacking, the pathfinding and line of sight for ranged units is complete asscheeks on that map, and you are getting shot at from every fucking direction. That being said I love defending and stacking everything in that keep in the corner with 2 long narrow entrances, has real helms deep vibes
I've been playing with a mod that forces all major sieges into field battles. I think it edits the main building attributes so it doesn't provide walls to the settlement without changing anything else (same garrisons as vanilla). It's called Friya No Siege. Most of the time it's harder, since the ai actually does something in the field instead of waiting to be bombarded.
@@juanfp lol i use a Mod that removes the minor settlement Battles. I dont really mind actual Sieges, they are rare enough and can be fun imo, but having to fight these Battles with the towers for every shitty little peasant Village i found atrocious

I think I had two or three armies against one, and it was terrifying. Every single unit they had seemed invincible. I eventually fled and didn't return until I could attack them 4-1...
Can confirm, the Tankard is one of the best items and it's insane not to make as many as possible for your melee heroes. Dwarves should consider themselves lucky that they can make an item with regen instead of having to scour the world for them😅
Question Mr. Legend man: what would you say is best for winning siege battles? because in my view I would think that a primarily melee based army like that would be terrible in a siege and would just get blobbed up at the gates or on the walls and nuked by tower spam. am I going about that wrong? is the 1 artillery piece enough to win the entire battle?
Best units for sieges are heroes. Ungrim would have been able to kill half the garrison by himself with an ironwarden tankard and run of spite. You send in arty first to knock out the one tower you need to take out then send ungrim through the gate and bomb the area around him with the arty. You'd take out half the army but ungrim will eventually get worn out. you pull him back and just send in the rest of the army to mop up the rest. You'd probably inflict an early army losses so you don't need wipe out every single unit.
Not sure if you are going to see and answer this but I want to ask it anyway. Is there any chance you would update the old unit tier lists that are still based on WH2? Or are most of them still basicaly the same in WH2 as they are now in WH3?

All-range summoning mechanics are stupid and shouldn't be in the game. They're extremely frustrating to face and utterly broken in the hands of the player by just negating enemy artillery. It undermines the fundamental skills and gameplay of unit positioning by allowing the enemy to just make a unit appear anywhere on the map at any time, for free, completely expendable. It's not even a special, high-level ability! It's a basic faction ability they have in almost every battle! It just drags out battles to deal with it or gives factions with said abilities extremely powerful tools that most factions don't have any access to at all.
