I own both and must say the Action 4's image looks more natural and just overall nicer! I don't think the features are "leaps and bounds" enough to upgrade for now until more firmware upgrades come through for the Action 5 + the extra rugged body of the 5 is ugly in my opinion looks like a bear chewed and spat it out again! The design of the 4 is nicer. What are you currently doing your videos with Anh Phuc?
The crisp video quality of shooting in D-LOGM with the Action 5 Pro is truly outstanding. After comparing it to footage from my Action 4, the difference is remarkable-particularly for those skilled in color grading. The Action 5 Pro offers a noticeable improvement in every frame. While it could benefit from a software update for the normal color mode, it’s not a feature I typically use.
@@DungarooTV I tend to avoid using the default settings, as they are somewhat lackluster. However, the Action 5 Pro delivers noticeably more vibrant results compared to the Action 4. By simply reducing the sharpness setting by -2, the Action 5 performs very nicely straight out of the box. Additionally, while the Action 4 tends to blow out highlights, the Action 5 Pro preserves them with better use of HDR. DJI will likely send out an update if enough users aren’t satisfied with the “out of the box” quality.
Very solid video clearly summarizing key features and benefits! You’re a trustworthy reviewer! If I was a UA-cam product reviewer…I’d really be insulted by GoPro’s latest release. The DJI action 4 can also display on both screens simultaneously while recording video, but it is limited up to 4K50 fps. That's not a typo - at 50 fps it still allows simultaneous live view whereas at 60 fps you have to decide which screen is on at a given time. You're the first reviewer I saw who addressed this. Can you please verify both screens can show live streaming at all resolutions and frame rates with the 5 pro?
Dang, I’ve only had my 4 for 2 months, guess I’ll have two cameras now. I don’t usually get the new version of things but this one is definitely worth it. Too bad they didn’t add GPS. Thanks for the great review.
I use my action camera for scuba diving (in a housing) only. I sold my GoPro10 Hero due to problems and got the OA4, couldn't be more happy. The built in WB sensor does a good job to bring back colors underwater (the screen and recordings actually often look better than real life) but for vibrant colors you still need to do some post production work. I like how the 5PRO IMHO has better skin tones and colors pop a bit more. It absolutely shows shadows better without blowing out highlights. I hope it will do a better job underwater with colors since I am too lazy to post prod my videos before I send to dive customers (free anyway). For underwater, external lenses, one for wide angle and seamless over/under and one for macro or close up, plus a holder will run you $500 in the US, more outside the US, so a considerable investment compared to the price of the camera but at least they will work on both 4 and 5PRO. A 5PRO is probably on te list for the new year, but so is ........... ha ha. Nice review, thank you.
Thank you so much for this, I changed from GoPro to DJI about a year ago due to the constant unreliability of the GoPro and its the best thing I ever did. This looks good and I was really interested how is stacked up against the new GoPro 13. The new features are exciting and better than I expected. Thank you for sharing.
I'm in the market for an action camera to give my husband at Xmas... This video puts the action 5 pro at the top of the list. Great video, and I look forward to your future comparison videos.
I really like the OA4 but the picture quality just wasnt on part with the GP at the time. Also, Linear mode still had too much warping for my taste. I hope the comparison video with the gopro 13 includes a good linear comparison.
I dont know why DJI, Go pro and other action camera manufacturer insist in release an unnecessary new camera every year. This new camera from DJI is not even a "pro" it is just an updated version from the previous model. It should be named as "Action 4 pro" instead not really a 5th generation camera.
What are remarkable in DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro: 1) Night shot is way better. 2) Battery life is remarkably developed. 3) Internal storage for almost 48gb is added. 4) Subject Tracking is cool and useful. 5) Daily shots are relatively more natural. You can add if i missed something.
Thanks for the review. The footage looks much smoother and less artifact prone to me. But the skin tones look out of wack. Did you miss the exposure and fixed it in post, or is it really what comes out of the camera?
Thanks for side-by-side comparison. I’m a musician and currently use GoPro Hero 12 to record audio with internal mics. Ends up Hero 12 records stereo with internal mics. Does Action 5 have stereo capability with internal mics?
Great video as usual. The better low light performance alone has won me over. Better battery life is also a huge bonus. I'll definitely be upgrading from my Action 4 and getting this camera at some point! Go pro is really going to have to step up their game now if they want to stay in it!
Super excited about many features, but the action 4 5:13 image looks better to me. It brightens her face without blowing out the highlights. Just looks much more pleasing.
Nice video but you left out a critical concern. The extended battery life is at least partially due to the dramatic drop in the Action 5 bitrate compared to the Action 4.
If possible, test the DJI 5 battery on the DJI 4 since they are compatible and compare the autonomy, will the DJI4 with the DJI 5 battery have an autonomy very close to the DJI 5?
@@Gemini_Connect Yes, it is compatible, but the autonomy will be as good as the 5 or will the DJI5 have much better energy management and therefore achieve 4 hours of duration.
Your reviews have gotten so good. I appreciate you taking the time to do them, especially with a newborn! I watched your comparison video featuring the OSMO Action 4, Insta360 Ace Pro and GoPro Hero 13. Based on that and other research, I was leaning toward the OSMO for my new action camera. Now with the "5" version out, I'm sold...it's the OSMO Action 5 for me! I do disagree with you on one negative point..."it's difficult to use a mic other than the DJI wireless." I own another wireless brand and a beautiful Shotgun mic. I was encouraged by the fact that DJI offers a small, inexpensive add-on device that allows you to plug in any mic with a 3.5mm male plug and you can still use the cage with it. That's crucial to me because I too do some VLOGing.

I will save in my piggy bank for the Action 4 and save lots of money. Great review though.
Maybe it’s me, but the Action 5’s output, even in night mode, seems VERY similar to my AcePro’s output. Is this camera really a step up in action cameras? I’m not so sure, as it seems to me the AcePro was already at this level of performance.

Great video thanks for sharing!
I love the review and video. I am only trying to be helpful but looking at the side-by-side comparison clips without looking at what camera was which......I thought the clips of the Action 4 were the better!.....It teaches me that the size of the sensor is not as important as one may think. I will save in my piggy bank for the Action 4 and save lots of money. Great review though.
Do they same accessories work for 4 work for 5? Small Rig cage?
Maybe it’s me, but the Action 5’s output, even in night mode, seems VERY similar to my AcePro’s output. Is this camera really a step up in action cameras? I’m not so sure, as it seems to me the AcePro was already at this level of performance.
For low light, the Ace Pro has 100% set the standard. Working on the big action camera comparison video now, hopefully out this weekend.
