I'm one of those people who has done that Pitman arm on my 95. Pulled the gear box and did the removal and installation on the bench. Ended up replacing the rag-joint while I was at it. That thing was junk.
Nice video and a lovely collection of parts at the beginning. I'm doing the ball joints and ABS backing plates starting this weekend and this video popped up no doubt due to all the searching I've done on those.

Just did one side of my 2000 Jimmy 4x4.
One thing i learned after banging on parts to come apart is that a small torch (FIRE!!!) can go a long way.
I expect the other side to take less than half the time I fought with the other.

I just replaced the output seals on my steering box. I just removed the whole box with the pitman arm attached. Once it was out I broke a cheap pitman arm puller, then I went and bought a proto one, had to use a large impact to get it off. Long story short those pitman arms can really suck

Now I know. If there is a next time, I will make sure mine is bad before I commit to replacing it. I was just ordering parts willy nilly and thought, “nice, a complete kit!” Never again.

THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS!! I have a 2001 ZR2 Blazer I'm currently working on... (by currently I mean it's been three years and I'm still not none). Your videos have motivated me to finally finish the project and get it back on the road. Where did you purchase your front end kit? I specifically need new lower control arms.

I refurbed my lower control arms with new ball joints and bushings, but I wouldn't recommend it. It was a lot of work to get the bushings out and in, even with a 20 ton press. The kit was from Detroit Axle and anything missing from that kit I ordered from RockAuto.

My driver's upper control arm was making some racket so I bought 1 off Amazon with Ball Joint pressed in.
Took me about 30min to take old one out & install the new one.
I had to beat the crap out of that old one.
I'm assuming I may need to buy a stabilizer shock for the front. That's one thing I've never changed. I did swap out the front 2 bearing hubs which wasn't too bad.
Just take your time. She'll come together. Looks like your wanting to take care of yours. I have 300k on mine & she is getting 16mpg & 18 on the highway.
Fuel Trims are 1.0 bank 1 & 0.0 on bank 2. I bought her 6yrs ago for $3k and know one ever sat in the passenger or back seats. A very very clean ZR2 down here S. of Houston.

Awesome video. I need to do the same on my 2002 ZR2. Can you give me the part numbers for the LCAs or a good replacement option? I am in Germany and can't get them locally so I am trying to order from Rock Auto or a similar site. Looking online and a lot of people are saying that even though replacement LCA descriptions say ZR2 or High/Wider Blazer that the sway bar link is in the wrong place. I see that your sway bar links are on the outside of the shock mount. Did you have any issues connecting the sway bar?

Did you lower control arms look like they have the sway bar mount in a different location then my stick one, the one I bought is like your where the mount is offset, my stock one is closer to center lined with the lower shock mount holes? Did the sway bar fit?

Can you tell me what components you bought to do this job? I have the same model and was wondering if the ZR2 front suspension parts had any different parts than the base model Blazer front suspension. I know some of the 2000 ZR2 Blazer parts need to be ordered special, but I can't find anything for the front end that suggests anything different. I heard that the control arms might be different... Please help me by replying with the details.

I am not entirely sure, but I ordered a kit from Detroit axle, and the extras from Rock Auto. I rebuilt my lower control arms, though I wouldn’t do it again. Just make sure the listings specify ZR2 or “high rise package” or something like that. They should fit. It does get confusing though.
