BMW R1150 GS | I damaged my sump guard and suspension fork seals when riding my BMW GS off-road.

- My Oilhead BMW 1150 GS needs a new sump guard, fork seals and some attention to the wiring before it can be ridden again - this comes after riding off-road and has taught me to finish the jobs before hitting the trails.
Backstory: I've bought it as a project motorcycle so that I could start adventure motorcycle riding and become an Adventure Bike Rider, bringing another element to this channel. I need to mention I bought it off the internet without seeing it for £2295 and this was the cheapest at the time and that's because It had no service history with it, so this is all a new experience and an exciting one at the same time.
My Motovlog and on-the-go charging setup:
Helmet Gripper mount: amzn.to/3NdQ03F
Purple Panda Microphone: amzn.to/42EbSeo
GoPro Battery Charger Power Bank charges my Phone and GoPro batteries while when I'm riding the: amzn.to/440MeBE
Official GoPro Enduro Battery: amzn.to/43UBLYu

I was having some electrical issues and, to eliminate it, I disabled the side stand switch. If I take off with the side stand down - shame on me! Great video from an 1150GS enthusiast!
Hahaha as long as you’re safe mate 👍🏻. Thanks, much appreciated 👌🏻
Came across your last 2 vids tonight & immediately hit SUB.
You have a great presentation style, excellent camera work & good editing, all of which combine to making great content.
I look forward to going thro your older stuff.
Content like this should see the channel grow x well done 👏
Hi Paul, very kind of you, thanks for taking the time to comment.
This whole UA-cam thing has been a massive learning curve so it’s nice to see that the progress is being enjoyed. Still plenty more to learn though 😄. Thanks for subscribing and joining the journey, I hope you enjoy seeing the channel develop 👍🏻
Ah more things to sort, it'll be a brand new bike by the time you are done.
Hahaha thankfully I’ve only been replacing the wear and tear parts, 23 years has certainly taken its toll and the off-road riding didn’t do it any favours 😆
So you broken three of four protection plate fixing points, well usually unscrew the part left on the engine is not easy. I suggest you remove the rubber, heat the flat metal part well and then try to unscrew. Consider laying the bike down to work efficiently on it. (At the end they are designed to break rather than damage the engine case) P.S. in the ADV model the protect plate is different and is mounted on fixing points that are notinstalled in the STD version but can be installed ( it is expensive and you have to replace the two anchoring plates of the stands and add a fixing point in front of the engine )
for the forks keep in mind that they are not suspension, they are just lubricated telescopic tubes that are used to turn the wheel LH/RH. The real suspension is the single shock absorber of the telelever system.
Ciao ;)
I forgot about the wire, It is from the oil pressure sensor...
Ciao ;)
Thanks dude. All parts were ordered before the vid went live so looking forward to getting the time to start tinkering again 😄.
Front fork seals are a 3-beer job,
Sump pump cover is sacrificial. Would love to find out your source for those rubber bits as mine are 20+ years old and likely to fail sooner rather than later.
Hahaha that’s a great way to measure jobs 😄. I’ve been using www.motorworks.co.uk to buy the parts for this bike, they’ve been pretty reliable so far.
Thought it had telalever front suspension
Hi Ant, you are right mate, the whole front suspension setup is two suspension forks and then a shock on the wishbone that connects to the engine and the forks. It’s a funny old setup.
