Awesome video man 👏 for an outside windy job, certainly didnt turn out bad.. its good to show a quick job sometimes.. Ive struggled with orange peel aswell.. tough in british outdoor weather
Good question.the reason I left it on is because I had to get it done in a short amount of time and be able to drive it home .and unbolting the fuel cap you would need to remove the fuel cap catch which is electric and the tube to the tank.I didn't want to risk breaking anything and not being able to finish the job that day
After lacquer has gone hard, use 1200 wet dry and flatten any runs or orange peel away. Stay away from the edges as lacquer tends to be thinner here. On small areas like your petrol cap you can use a fine rubbing compound to buff away some lacquer imperfections and polish to a glass finish.👍
Painted my cap gloss black and put a red Audi decal on the cap looks ok I do have to touch the paint up now , Just to add went one step further and paint my interior centre consol glove box , panel under the steering wheel and centre compartment in middle of the seats red it dident turn out to bad to be honest , Want I would say is I should have spent a bit longer on the prep
i did a plastidip black on mine because my spoiler and hood are carbon fiber so it didnt make a difference. wish i had the money to get a carbon petrol cap 😂
@@CarChris82 I have a 58 plated Mk2 Quattro TDI got it 7 years ago on 15K. Now sitting on 56K. Best fun I’ve had in years as my daughter lives in Gairloch, perfect excuse to do the North Coast 500. Well any excuse I suppose lol.
@@CarChris82 the first go I was removing the tape and put a blemish on the finish. Sanded it down to primer, begin process again. Paint ran a bit but not too bad. I may take another go at the project later in the season. Saw another You tube video explaining how to remove the gas door. If I can find some black screws I’ll move forward with the project.
Looks good man better than the silver? Is it polished aluminium or just painted silver? Only reason I say heads up for bare metal in future etch primer is what is recommended, either way still looks damn good thought ide just share that with you for any future projects 🙂. Think you did a damn good job dude 😃
I would do the same thing to the wheels if you're looking for a change. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about them black but glad I did! 🇺🇸
Check out another vid the wheels got changed 👍🏻
Another great video, something I'm planning to do to my Audi TT Mk2 as well, in gold!
Cheers mate 👍 gold will be different

@@CarChris82 that's all that matters mate, at least it's still looking as you did it back then :)
was there any reason you didnt take it off? Its only a couple of bolts so would have made it easier doing inside or out of the wind atleast?

Well I took the plunge and rattle canned my cap. It looks great from about three feet away! Closer, not so much.😬
Oh dear what happened? If its just problem with the lacquer you may be able to wet sand and polish
