EDIT 08/18/2023: it has been brought to my attention in the comment section of the other video (by a sample god @fair6508 ) that the specific version of "To You With Love" Dilla used is different from the main release that i used in my remake. ua-cam.com/video/vspOUufy9aA/v-deo.html you can totally hear the missing vocal in this version, which I briefly discussed not knowing where it came from in this video. well, now we know, more or less! massive thanks to him/her 1nce again, i'm not sure if I will remake my remake, but there's still some great info here! peace
This is great, thanks for doing this! I'm working on a beat tape now strongly inspired by the style of Dilla's motown and donuts tapes and this is widly helpful
I immediately wouldn't doubt it -- a lot of Donuts had added low end, 808s, what have you to it. He may also have just brought it out of the original sample, which is an important note. Take my Ableton 10-11 Lite EQing up there with a grain of salt 😁
@@pandatheheist the reason is I was trying to sorta remake just how the kick and sample fit but I listened closely and I see that the kick has a different pattern yet the chops are the same. I could be wrong but lmk what you think lol
@@RajeshKumar-mq4uv Word, I can't promise you I'll try but we'll see! If the kicks have a different pattern then that should pretty much settle it, but again I wouldn't underestimate Dilla's ability to bring out what was already on the sample 🙏 A few months ago I had revisited my Walkinonit / Mash remakes -- they're pretty much just a master class on how to mess with a sample. Feel free to kindly reach out on Discord if you want by the way, it might be easier than a long YT comment chain: pandatheheist is my user 👍

Best of luck to your beat-tape!!
Yeah I legit don’t get the “oh baby baby” part still. I thought I found another song it was from awhile back but it was (obviously) not it.
Thank you david
I don't know who you are but you're welcome :D
I think he played a sub kick very low velocity over the sample
