@@prodsxmmit wrong emoji. Should be 😎
@@prodsxmmit it's true though depending on what you classify as the "generic wave"
@@manhamnight oldheads like him call all modern rap mumble auto tune, because they think every rapper is Lil Pump 🤦♂️ there's so many different subgenres of rap and they all sound different.
@@prodsxmmit hate to break it to you, but I don't think oldheads would ever give JPEG a chance, and if one ever did they would 100 percent call it "noise" and say it's a disgrace to hip hop.
Now I'm gonna assume that he meant the general mainstream of hip hop/rap and not whatever you said, and if that's what we're going off of, he's completely right. Rappers like Polo G, Gunna, Dababy, NLE, Blueface, Lil Durk, NBA Youngboy, Lil Baby, these rappers and more have a discography where you could switch most of their instrumentals around and the song would be completely unaffected in terms of structure, flow, or quality. There are some exceptions but not many, this is why you'll see that these rapper's best material is when they deviate from the pattern. For example Dababy: (Under The Sun, What's Poppin Remix) Blueface: (Better Days) Lil Baby (The Bigger Picture, and most of his feats like Pride Is The Devil or Hurricane) Youngboy (WUSYANAME, Bandit, Drug Addiction) I could keep going but I think my point is clear, the old sounds gets stale and people will seek out artists like JPEGMAFIA who you would have a much harder time making his songs sound the exact same when you switch the instrumentals. Most people who enjoy music will seek out artists with distinct sounds and not repetitive trends
JPEG is the picture perfect example of pushing the envelope

yeah but 'breaking traditions' isn't as much of a headliner as 'breaking rules' and it's not really an important distinction to make imo
@@reallymaidenless im just writing my thoughts. not an important distinction in the big picture but is interesting to think about for a moment
@@TaxPact That's true, I meant more from Navie's POV he's playing the algorithm game by picking a snappy title lol, I agree with what you said for sure
If you look at song arrangements in the lense of "rock" music or "EDM" music, then doing abrupt switches becomes easier to pull off. Have it sound like a HipHop song obviously, but structure like its in another genre then it really helps as well
While it’s good to learn basic beat making rules to keep structure, know when it’s a good time to break it. I saw a clip of Chadwick Boseman’s James Brown movie where his band isn’t too sure if his song works musically. He simply states something like “if it sounds good and feels good, then it’s good.” Might be misquoting, but even back then people knew when to break the norm.

Step 3- say FOH 404 and break it on a livestream over Hank Peckers head or sumn idk u tell me.
PS. Sample A.I for the culture🤣💀
JPEGMAFIA is so creative, he doesnt rely on a quantization and its off-putting at first but it hits so good. Randomly cutting off guitars as the beat drops or transitioning from a really hard, high energy beat to something mellow is what I think people find him so appealing especially his ability to sound cohesive and flow on these beats
that beat you made sounds crazy
bro made a NIN song at the end there
Agreed. Was kinda wild

how did I ended up watching benzema analyzing jpegmafia beat switches
The use of sampling is inspiring. You may have analysed the two best songs on the album
I think hes just going back to "bad" ideas we all tried and gave up on and using his mastery and expertise to flip them into genius ones.
bruh is this karim benzema

Step by step process
1. take away the d

8. add a benzema
9. keep his appearance the same

This is such an amazing breakdown video. I agree with you. Peggy is insane with his production as always, very inspiring for me cause it could be applied in art too. I love creatives that break the usual rules.

brazilian funk dominating the world 🇧🇷🌎💚
Those of you who are exhuberant and excited about production, learn it from someone with a proven track record. If you're going to learn it from people on the internet, learn it from people who have charted somewhere consistently. Plugins, daws, samples, and knowledge are freer now than they have ever been. There are a lot of grifters preying on young people who are excited to learn but don't know where to turn.
I love how he sampled Brazilian Funk for a track
That whole video is telling me only one thing. That rapper just use normal song structure instead of boring AF loops that needs a lot of time to be changed into other loops. And uses basic song making knowledge like having main theme recurring throughout the song.
I don't know why but the beat you made at the end reminds me of 'Boards of Canada' Specifically their song roygbiv.... maybe its just the synths and acustic drums combo...
peggy is the living example of "making music for yourself > pre-packaging what people would like", fans should always be the last thing you make music for
On the first listen, new black history was so weird and so jarring. Took a few listens to really find the groove of it. I really grew to like it
I hope you bring up that switch on Don't Put Anything On The Bible
If you find these songs where the beat switches up really quickly interesting you definitely have to check out tsuruda and woolymammoth.

Bro your videos are fire you analyze and explain these songs so well, especially when the songs are so wild it’s hard to break down
Great video! you've inspired me to work on some beats and i feel like I'm improving 🙏
The second point is quite odd. People have been doing that since prog rock has been a thing. It's very common.
The beat you made at the end was straight flames. Great to show the stuff you complimented JPEG on actually applied and working
Hip hop producers finding out what electronic music producers have been doing for decades the video
2:45 “this strange vocals” kkkkkk oh if you know what’s being said

The beat you made kinda reminded me of when I first made beats and was just messing around with FL with no idea how to use it
Thx for the vid & the breakdown. Im ready to try them fast switch ups
I don't really agree as every point here can be applied to 6ix (logic producer) and brockhampton. I do think there's a unique sound in jpegmafia's production but I think it has more to do with his comfort with frantic rhythms and melting genres than the points made here tbh.
Bro the song skitzo has 2 beat switches (actually 3) and the last one is a direct cut, still great video, keep ya head up
None of this is new. People have been doing all of this shit for more than 20 years
Great video! But I peeped that plugin your working on I’m so hyped for it to study beats and the beat you made for the video was 🔥🔥🔥
Your beat is fire!

thansk for uplaoding this, ive been loving the new peggy album, has some great production
Might be the best beat you've made as an example on one of these yet. I don't always agree with your takes, but I appreciate someone who can see inside Peggy's genius. Keep talkin yo shit Navie I'm subbed on 2 accounts now lol

Holy moly, the result at the end is fckin insane man. 🤯🖤🔥
I'm very happy to see that I did a similar process to jpeg for my first beat I made.
Navie, I think one of the best transitions on beats are the ones in Estilo Libre by Residente. It changes the beat like every 30 seconds, without missing the flow and the rhythm of the song, I think it’s worth a video. Greetings!
Hindu music is beginning to affect hip hop in the same fashion blues and jazz samples changed hip hop... I wonder what other cultural sounds will dramatically affect the cultural texture of hip hop? Maybe Gaelic or Druid music? American indigenous tribal music from all over the continent of the Americas?
Uhhhhh… is this supposed to be ironic? You never heard Madlib, Dilla, or ya know the Neptunes?? 🤣
@@discowolf25 huh? What irony did you get from my statement? What was the ironic part? Do you know what the word irony means? My statement was an inquisition on what other cultural style will impact underground hip hop next... Hindu music has been sampled for a long time in underground hip hop, jazz and various forms of American music have been sampled in underground hip hop... I haven't heard a great amount, meaning there may be some, but not to the point that the drum sounds and patterns have been rhythmically Co opted into the Soundscapes of what is considered hip hop... I hope this answers your question... Unless, it was meant to be rhetorical
@@discowolf25exception not the norm
Good analysis and the beat you created was 🔥
Man everytime I want a video you post

Natural sounding drums over electronic or synthy sounds is nothing new. El-P was doing this stuff years ago and if you look outside of hip-hop to a group like the Prodigy you'll find the same ideas
Crazyyy did you consider releasing the last beat for purchase? Its so fire
your skitzo examples lacks context. travis raps for the whole time during that "transition." Skitzo really has like four beats, and it took just four bars to travel from beat 1 to 2, and maybe 2 bars to travel from beat 2 to 3
So basically dont follow rules and make what u want to make
BEAT 1 = ELEMENTS FUNK RJ - FUNK CARIOCA (BRAZIIILLL) BEAT 2 = BREAKCOREZADA
These are more conventional strategies in other genres
Your beat is crazy good haha
For #3, a great example is the track I'm On Everything by Bad Meets Evil. They used a Mike Epps standup clip to create the chorus
lowkey this video just shows how stale most prods beats are... like damn u really never thought of putting acoustic drums with digital synths? i did for sure
